Bit of animated series news. Hope to get a new section for stuff like this soon.
Thanks to a tip from Phylos, we have new information regarding the upcoming Transformers: Heroes animated series.
Apparently, Tara Strong claims that she will be playing the voice of the only human female character, Sari.

Tara Strong - Batgirl in BTAS, Raven in Teen Titans, Bubbles in PPG.
Also, she is pretty hot: :o

From Wiki on the series:
Transformers: Heroes
Not much is known except it will air on Cartoon Network in Fall 2007 and takes place in where earth is cohabitated by humans and robots. Also, veteran voice actors from Beast Wars will do the voices. Recently, information on which Transformers will be in the show was announced. Optimus Prime (who will be a fire truck), Megatron, Bumblebee, Ultra Magnus, Prowl, and Starscream are being auditioned. It also should be noted that Optimus Prime will be younger than the other Autobots. This is the first time since Generation 1 with Rodimus Prime that a younger Autobot has served as leader. Recently, David Kaye (best known for voicing the second Megatron) announced that he will provide the voice of Optimus Prime. This is a new experience for him as he has always voiced Megatron in the dubbed shows, while Gary Chalk has voiced Prime and Primal since Beast Wars. The show will be directed by Alex Soto, who directed the Teen Titans TV series, and the character designer, whom of which is unknown, worked on Teen Titans, Foster's, and Legion of Superheroes. Cartoon Network will also help with the production of the show, and this series will have a different look from the Armada/Energon/Cybertron trilogy (and it won't be anime). Instead, will have a brand new look like nothing seen before in Transformers. Recently, rumors are going around saying that Tom Kenny, the voice of Spongebob Squarepants, will be providing one of the voices in the show.

From her own admission on her personal website, Tara Strong has informed the public that she will be voicing a character named "Sari" in the upcoming Transformers Cartoon currently referred to as "Heroes".
A quote from her website reads as such:
"Transformers is coming out shortly after the movie release and I predict will be a big hit. I play the only regular girl character, 'Sari.' She's not a Transformer ... just a little girl!"

Gary Chalk actually didn't play Prime in Robots In Disguise.
Honestly every Transformers show since the Beast Wars saga has been garbage. Maybe this one will be different. A good one would be nice to reinforce to the Hollywood bunch how it's done.

"The Transformers are back! Arriving on Earth of the future, where robots are common place as humanity's servant class. But Earth's robots have a secret that may doom humanity and their unlikely Autobot saviors."
The listing called for 26 episodes, which is a standard CN order for a first season. This jibes with Aaron Archer's comments last Botcon that the next TF cartoon would be produced in the US again.
The Animation studio will not be Gonzo, but Answer and Mook and the cartoon will not be 'Anime' in style.
-The look of the series will be 'brand new' to Transformers.
- The only writer previously connected to Transformers that has submitted ideas for the series is one of the story editors on Beast Machines.
- Character design is being done by talent from the Teen Titans, Legion of Superheroes, Fosters series.
- The Director worked on Teen Titans and X-Men Evolution
- Cartoon Network will be partner in the production of the show.
Update: It seems that an image of what the characters from the new Transformers: Heroes cartoon MIGHT look like can be seen here:

This image was created by aritist Sean "cheeks" Galloway, who is said to be working on the new TV show and has previously worked on DC Comics 'Teen Titans Go!' title.

I am becoming very frightened at some of the things i am hearing about this series. I liked RID, and Armada was O.K., but this non anime thing just sucks, because, they havent got the anime Transformers thing down yet,(well, mabey the Masterforce,Victory, And Zone), They need to get real anime artists on the show, give the TFs a bit more detail and bulk(not "Cybertron" bulk mind you), like more advanced than Gundam Wing.
I seriously hope those bots from Deviant Art are not even remotley close to what they are supposed to be. That crap is way to 3 year old Disney style to be taken any sort of seriously. What the hell is wrong with updating and super-detailing a G1 style show? That to me seems like the best outcome a Transformers show could hope to achieve.

Actually, it hasnt been done. Thats a dipiction of G1 Optimus looking badass. While regular G1 Optimus has a design better than any of the modern day interpretations, he didnt exactly look as off the hook sweet as the DW comics. What we should get is G1 characters looking more fearsome and better disigned than in the 80s. What we are getting is a scribble.

1) Why does Prowl need wheels?
2) Why does Bumblebee have to look exactly like his movie incarnation?
3) Why the heck is Bulkhead in the starting lineup?
Visually, this looks pretty bad. But if it can make a faithful adaption like how the movie should have done I'll reserve judgement. Unfortunately, seeing how they've already tried to modernize things just in the beginning stages I'm fairly certain this isn't going to have an epic Samurai Jack-esque tale to tell.

This show, like G1, is using the toys as a start point to make the animation models. RiD animation models are near exact replications of the toys.

He's not. David Kaye - who's been voicing Megatron since the Beast shows (except maybe for RID) - is voicing Optimus this time out. Corey Burton, who voiced several G1 characters (Spike, Shockwave, Brawn among them, as well as the DCAU's Brainiac and Count Dooku on Clone Wars), is voicing Megatron. And Tom "SpongeBob" Kenny is voicing Starscream.
At this rate the ONLY thing about this show shaping up to be tolerable is the voice cast, IMO.

Do we really need to argue semantics? It has Prime, so it's G1-inspired. Just like Armada and all the rest. It's very obvious they're not remaking G1. I'm just saying that for a G1-inspired endeavor it sure is a shame to see the level of effort in the animation and plot outline respectively.

Well if it was called Transformers: The Animated Series, it would have a better ring to it, instead of Transformers: Animated.
Lunar_Wolf

That better be some kind of joke.
(Although the idea of non "Transforming" Transformers has been used twice to date.)
No joke. It's confirmed.

they need to change the name to "Transformers: Crapulated". i'm sorry but that's a piss poor job...it's kinda sad that i'd almost rather see them draw G1 style. at least there would be a sense of nostalgia. as much as i don't get the nostalgiac feeling from the live action movie....i get next to nothing from those drawings.
ShadowBoxing
06-25-2007, 11:13 PM
Actually it's kind of funny, I do get a nostalgic feeling from these drawings since most of the characters are chocked full of nods to previous characters/incarnations. But the art itself is just stinky poo and doesn't fit well with the robots at all.
The only other positive I see so far is the potential for really cool toys to accompany the line. Some of those designs, assuming they don't try to embody the animation, could make for great toys.
Nathan
06-25-2007, 11:51 PM
This show, like G1, is using the toys as a start point to make the animation models. RiD animation models are near exact replications of the toys.
So, that means we'll be getting crappy toys that can't Transform. Wow, that's just great.

Have you ever seen cheap plastic used in Asian market knockoffs that's stiff and badly painted? Imagine that here, only with better paint and half of the butchery done in the design alone.

The problem with "Transformers: Animated" is because... They've always been ****ing animated. For the past 20 years. Until the movie. "Transformers: Animated" makes it seem like them being animated is a new thing, which is very much is not.

:whatever: I mean they toy and the cartoon model don't look much alike. I mean G1 Prime resembled the toy. But it wasn't an exact likeness like you find in the Unicron trilogy or RiD.
Nathan

Actually it'll look like Teen Titans and The Batman. Same people are doing the show. Plus one of the Beast Machines writers. Which means it'll probably be half decent. And like all TF shows the animation models were created by Derrick Wyatt (the guy who designed the characrters for TT and LOSH) from prototypes HasKara has already made.

Sprocket just passed on some VERY interesting info on Transformers:Animated. He was able to talk to a Hasbro guy who told him this:
1) No designs were approved until their transformations could work.
2) All Autobots have special abilities.
3) It's very much a "What if the Autobots were superheroes?" angle.

Transformers Animated stuff
------------------------------
Going to give us a sneak peak
Better timeslot for TV show than with Energon and Cybertron
Hasbro thinks that we shouldn't be worrying about things as much as we are.
Worked very closely with Cartoon Network.
People working on cartoon are big fans ... I got the impression that they are moreso than the folks at Hasbro
Wanted to diversify, freshen things up.
It's our new Cartoon series for 2008
Production has been brought back to US
Writing Style
------------------------
Return to character development and story telling similar to BW.
Action driven show - very fluid.
Episodic but ties into an overall Seasonal Arc
Smaller cast of Bots with signifciant character development for each individual character.
Action driven with a dose of Humor.
Major fcosu on personality and abilities
Rich action sequences
Familiar and New characters
Human super-villains and Decepticon villains.
Artistic Style
----------------------------
Highly stylized and fluid animation
More energetic and expressive bots.
Major focus on personality and abilities
Grow from Mechanical to Emotive designs
Familiar and New characters
Realistic and Stylized transformations.
1 transformation is tasmanian devil styled.
Will not be anime cut transformations.
You will really see them transform
Summary
----------------------
Set on Earth in the near future in Detroit, the alien Transformers are thrust into a world populated by humans and automatons. As visitors to Earth, the Transformers -- Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Prowl, Bulkhead and Ratchet -- work in the human world interacting with the 'natives' in exciting and humorous ways. Transformers Animated has been created to showcase the heroic Autobots working together to battle the evil Decepticons and save Earth with kid-relatable plot lines filled with humor, distinctive characters persaonalities and dynamic action.
AUTOBOTS
----------------------------
Ratchet - season Autobot, legitimate combat, cybertronian version of the military, like the guy from Full Metal Jacket
Ironhide will be like the Fantastic Four's Thing.
Prowl is like a ninja.
Grimlock is a T-REX!!! HUGE ROUND OF APPLAUSE!!!
THERE WILL BE TWO OTHER DINOBOTS IN THE SHOW.
They are 3 crazy dude.
Grimlock looks awesome
DECEPTICONS
-------------------
Megatron is a gun in his Cybertronian mode.
Starscream kind of resembles Cyclonus in jet mode.
Has kind of like a Chris Latta voice
Voiced by Tom Kenny
We will be seeing most of the Transformers in their Cybertronian modes at the beginning of the series.
Blitzwing is a triplechanger (tank, jet, robot) - looks f'in awesome!!!
Kind of a new spin on his character, fun personality quirk: has a split personality
Spinning face gimmick on the toy
Lugnut (similar in body style to Bulkhead)
If Bulkhead is like the Thing, then Lugnut is like the Incredible Hulk.
Lugnut has missiles for hands,
Jet of some sort
BLACKARACHNIA!!! HUGE ROUND OF APPLAUSE
Different origin story for BA than in BW.
Starts out as a different character entirely, flashbacks, one of the more complicated Decepticons, you'll care more about her.
HUMANS CHARACTERS
------------
Cpt. Fanzone - Police Chief
Sari (girl) and her father Isaac Sumdac
A nod to Isaac Asimov, there, perhaps? (Also note that Sumdac is Cadmus spelled backwards - I wonder if perhaps the new producers aren't comic book junkies...)
Sari's interaction with the Autobots is unlike her interaction in the past shows. It works out better. Not the typical human sidekick.
Sari is an outcast. Looks to the Autobots for friendship.
Human villians - "Angry Archer" (applause), NOT your typical run-of-the-mill Dr. Archeville character. Super villains ...
The Autobots WILL have their Ark. It looks like a stylized G1 Ark. Crowd: Will there be a toy? No response from Hasbro.
The Decepticons WILL have the Nemesis.
Nemesis dwarfs the Ark. It's GIGANTIC.
The Ark is about the size of one of the spikes on the Nemesis.
Nemesis has a purple lighting and black interior.
Ark had warm colors, circular, multi-level
Showed us some shots of what Detroit looks like.
Showed us a shot of the Sumdac Tower's interior.
What will the toys look like?
Toys developed at the same time as the animation designs.
Animation style allows us to show more personality with each character.
90% animation/toy accuracy.
Takara has really helped out with these designs.
New sculpting style.
No more full line gimmicks!!! WOO HOO! Big round of applause ...
Transformation is the feature.
Signature weapons and poses - attitude and stance.
Range of motion is great!
Allows for the characterization to stand out more.
There are some things they won't be able to do because of joints and stuff.
Accessories will transform?
Convey a greater range of style with these characters.
Wow ... just showed us what deluxe and Voyager Optimus Primes. Look awesome. The stylistic sculpting is there ... match up extremely well with the animated versions. Wow. Just wow! I wish you guys could see this.
Deluxe Bumblebee and Voyager class Bulkhead - really staying faithful to animated look.
Archer: can't thank Takara enough for their help with this line.
Really paid off by working daily with Takara and Cartoon Network.
Deluxe Prowl and Deluxe Ratchet
All figures have great articulation.
Artist rendition (3-D model) of Voyager Grimlock.
Voyager Megatron and Starscream: Megatron is a vertical take off Cybertronian vehicle in this image. I'm confused with the gun mode drawing of him from earlier. Maybe the gun mode Megatron is his earth mode.
Deluxe Blackarachnia looks great!
Lugnut and Blitzwing pics ...
The future
-------------------------
Working on season 2 already.
More familiar and new characters.
Possibility of season 3 and 4.
Desire to create brand new characters ... with cameos by G1 favorites.
Toys will have a "matte" finish like Batman Animated.
AllSpark looks like a Matrix/
Optimus has an axe.
Megatron has a sword.
The animation is really slick looking. Everyone is going to love this.
Optimus Prime doese have a mouth and a face shield.
The transforrmation of Optimus Prime looked really cool.
My opinion has officially changed
Optimus says: "transform and roll out."
Opening audio is very cool: hip hop, rock type style.
No transformation audio yet.
The Optimus Prime axe is awesome.
Showed us a space scene.
Optimus pole-vaulted with an extended version of his axe.
2 segments for fall 2008: Transformers Animated and Transformers Universe (Classics 2.0). I have the impression that the G1 styled font "Transformers Universe" is the official name for Classics 2.0.
Why not a cartoon based on the movie? The movie is it's own Universe.
Animated Optimus Prime has a detachable trailer.
Getting more and more difficult to make just a trailer without a feature.
Probably will not do a character in Animated and Classics at the same time.
Susan Blu is the voice director for Transformers Animated.
Hasbro has little to do with voice casting (which translates to they really don't have anything to do with it).
Weird Al will be voicing a character in the Animated series.
Might be a garbage truck or school bus type vehicle mode Transformer in Animated.
David Kaye also confirmed that Weird Al is the voice of the garbage truck - a neat nod to TF:TM '86, if I do say so myself.
Could possibly be more female Transformers in later episodes of Animated.
Grimlock will have his familiar talk in the Animated series.
More from Davie Kaye's Q&A, http://www.seibertron.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9171&sid==
Now to the really interesting stuff about the animated cartoon that he shared:
-This cartoon they are recording the voices together in the same room.
-Appearing characters that he mentioned:
Prowl (Jeff Dennis)
Prime (David Kaye)
Bumblebee (Bumper Robinson--'Chris Rock' like)
Ultra Magnus (Jeff Dennis-- very Robert Stack-y)
Arcee (Susan Blu reprisal?)
Black Arachnia (Cree Summer)
Grimlock (David Kaye --did a SNL Phil Hartman Frankenstien-y voice as an example)
Lugnut (David Kaye)
Starscream (Tom Kenney)
Ratchet (Corey Burton)
Shockwave (Corey Burton)
Megatron (Corey Burton)
Jazz (Phil LaMarr, of MadTV fame)
Blurr (Reprised by John Moschita)
Bulkhead (Bill Fagerbacky-- Patrick from Spongebob)
All in all, this sounds better than what it appeared we were going to get, IMO. I can't wait to hear Burton voice Shockwave again, and LaMarr was one of hopefuls for voicing Jazz in the movie, so I'll get to hear him yet. And after seeing Moschita reprise his FedEx ad schtick on VH1's I Love The '80s 3D...the man's voice has not slowed a bit. :oldrazz:
At the risk of sounding like a 'blasphemer', my faith in this show being halfway-decent is starting to look up again.

Armada: Terrible voice acting, but great story if you stuck with it past Smokescreen's death.
Energon: erm...yeah skip that. Although they had some interesting human relationships going on in that one.
Cybertron: Pretty decent voice acting. The story was touch and go at times, but overall it was nicely done. The only drag was the race episodes which went on forever.

Starscream could kill a man with that chin. And I suppose they thought Movie Megatron was going to be so widely accepted that they would be fine porting over his exact same look from the film to the animation? Oh yeah, that'll help loads in people accepting this cartoon.

I kinda like his Disney-villain chin; in that respect, it kind of plays up the character's long-standing sense of vanity.

Starscream's face looks like it's melting. Megatron looks like the movie version, which is not bad. Whoever that is left to Megatron, looks like G1 Megatron.

I'm fairly sure it's Blitzwing. If it is, that is but one of his faces. His gimmick is a split personality. He has many faces (like Man-E-faces from He-man) and a spinning head thing going on in the toy.

I'm not trying to sound like a pessimist but I don't like the way the characters are drawn, or the fact that Optimus is the youngest Autobot in this show either. I don't really see it being successful. In my opinion if there is to be a new animated Transformers cartoon, the characters should look closer to their movie counterparts, I mean let's face it that is why there's even going to be a new tv show. They should bank of the movie plot as much as they can. I think the characters should also be the same ones from the movie. It'll give them more personality and of course they can add some more characters too. If they did this in animation or CGI like the Transformers movie game, that would be killer.

Doing that would for sure kill the show, imagine a TF show without Megatron. At least until TF2 comes out then he magically shows up. Look at MTV's Spider-man. It was totally hamstrung before it got out of the gate because it did what your talking about. Hasbro has stated that the movie is it's own thing. Sperate from everything else continuity wise. Teaching them young that TF's aren't the same from one thing to the next.

Some more TF:A info from the SDCC panel - http://tformers.com/SDCC-Transformers-Animated-Panel/8194/news.html
3:05: Transformers Animated
+ Panel members from "Transformes Animated" are Sam Register, Matt Youngberg, Derrick Wyatt, and Mary Isenberg + The show is make for 6-11 year old demographic
+ Since kids dont read comics any more.
Sad, but true, I imagine.
+ This has been a partnership with CN and Hasbro.
+ They are using Hasbro, CN and Japanese desigers to do this.
+ The aim to offer a new look for the Transformers after the movie went for the realistic look
+ Everyone at CN and Hasbro are all big TF fans. They know and love the brand and are excited to see some new ides coming along.
+ Derrick Wyatt said his challenge was to design new TFs to be more humanesque and expressive.
+ Matt Youngberg is working with the Japanese to make the production more fluid and more full of life.
+ Japanese studios do that kind of work best so they went with the animation in Japan.
+ Eric Sebenhaler says the challenge was to go from brick styling to a more organic style that CN wanted to see. Eric works with CN guys sharing deisgn ideas and such.
In other words, the radical design change was what CN wanted. :whatever:
+ Aaron Archer says that they wanted to focus on four characters with more to come and choose what characters and vehicles they would like to add to the story
+ Also, Dinobots are coming back!
Hells yeah!
+ The Animated show is a reinterpretation show. New feel.
Um...what else is new?
+ Some video stuff is being showcased.
+ This carton is influenced by the Mighty Orbots
+ Voice of Lickdown will lance hendrikson.
I'm sure that's LOCKDOWN (sp), and damn...Bishop voicing a TF? Some G1 voice actors, Weird Al as Wreck-Gar, and now this...VERY interesting.
3:19 P.M. Animated Toys
+ Extra special care to match faces to toon look.
+ A lot the toys have a glossy finish and a matte / stain finish - new look
+ Toys shown:
Autobots: We see a Deluxe, Voyager Prime - Cybertronian Verision and Earth Modes; Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Prowl, Ratchet, Deluxe Slug and Grimlock;
Wonder if that's supposed to be SLUDGE instead of Slug.
Decepticons: Starscream and Megatron, Lugnutz is a lot like Hulk, and Blitzwing is a 2-faced character; Deluxe Lockdown transforms into a Corvette-type vehicle - their version of Bulkhead; Deluxe Blackarachnia and Soundwave - Soundwave has a guitar that turns into Laserbeak;
I honestly hope one of the sites posts some pics, just to see whether this is cool or cheesy as hell.
+ Steps in toy to vehicle - vehicle to toy being shown.
Well, judging by previous reports, Hasbro really relied a lot on Takara to make the Animated designs work as transformable toys. *prays for pics later on*

First off the animation is not as bad as I thought it might look.
I still don't like how the TF move at times. Almost they are move out of proportion or like they are made of jelly. The whole anime crappy effect to the show I don't like. Prowl also did the ****ing Taz spin :cmad:

Now that I think about it, the Taz-spin transformation is probably with reference to him being a ninja-type as he's been described - in other words, he's transforming THAT FAST (you'll note the other TFs do have definitive transformations).
TF:A looks to be Hasbro's effort to "reintroduce" G1 to a new generation, given how much more G1 homage this show has in comparison to all the more recent series (the Skyspy, Arcee, the Dinobots, the Ark instead of the Axalon [Primal's ship in BW], Weird Al/Wreck-Gar, the theme song) - obviously a twenty-plus year old cartoon won't cut it.

It was...okay. I was really turned off by the designs. Bumblebee sounds like a Rattrap ripoff. Prime's design is bad enough, but the face and VA are way, way off. Megatron was speaking a little low-key but he suffices. Starscream was a good highlight. All in all, the material seems like it's capitalizing a bit too much off of giant mecha animation like Armada and only scoring patchy positives for me. I get the feeling that the highlights of the whole really will be the G1 references. Something about the kid and the setup tell me that I'm going to be weathering the series rather than enjoying it.

Some kind of sports car, apparently: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers_Animated Given how many of the minor characters sport a resemblance to their G1 counterparts, I'm guessing Jazz will probably be the same.
Autobots
* Optimus Prime: New leader of the Autobots transforms into a futuristic fire truck, and wields an axe.
* Bumblebee: The youngest member and covert spy of the group. Transforms into a vehicle similar to his Classics version.
* Ratchet: seasoned Autobot Medic, legitimate combat, Cybertronian version of the military.
* Bulkhead: Tough Autobot and will be similar to the Fantastic Four's Thing. Colour scheme is based on G1 Hound.
* Prowl: His alt-mode is now a Motorcycle and he fuctions as a ninja for the group.
* Jazz: Disguised as a sports car, this bot likes earth culture and its slang.
* Grimlock: a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Leader and member of the subgroup Dinobots. Beast mode is in the same colours as his G1 version; wields a sword.
* Slag: Triceratops Member of the subgroup Dinobots.
* Swoop: Pteranodon Member of the subgroup Dinobots.
* Ultra Magnus: Seasoned Autobot commander and friend of Optimus Prime.
* Blurr: The fast talking energetic Autobot.
* Arcee: One of the few female Autobots. Her alt-mode is a jet. Robot Mode is nearly identical to the G1 design.
* Wreck-Gar: A garbage truck with a parodying sense of Humor.
Decepticons
* Megatron: a gun in his Cybertronian mode, futuristic jet in Earth mode; also wields a sword.
* Starscream: resembles Cyclonus in jet mode. Has forward-pointing wings. Colour scheme is the same as G1 Starscream. Headscuplt looks similar. Voiced by Tom Kenny.
* Blitzwing: a Triple Changer (tank, jet, robot); a new spin on his character, he has a split personality. Spinning face gimmick on the toy.
* Lugnut: (similar in body style to Bulkhead), Lugnut has missiles for hands and is a jet of some sort.
* Blackarachnia: Different origin story than in Beast Wars. Starts out as a different character entirely, flashbacks, one of the more complicated Decepticons. Transforms into a black-purple spider.
* Soundwave: His alt-mode is now based on a Scion xB and his minion Laserbeak now transforms into a Guitar. Similar colour as his G1 version.
* Lockdown: a 1980s style black Corvette design with a Supercharger. He is calculating and has been described as being like Boba Fett; has a hook for a right hand.
* Shockwave: The military operations commander for the decepticons, and is very loyal to Megatron.

Actually, giant dinosaurs, even robotic ones, would probably scare the crap outta humans, which would drive them away in panicked droves...
...which makes their alt-modes IDEAL in situations where the Decepticons may already be in position inside a city or other public area where there's lots of civilians. Sending in the Dinobots to scare off humans would ensure a reduction in civilian casualties (as well as a sh**load of destruction). :oldrazz:

Ohh awesome!
So do we know what car he is yet?
Yes, it is very awesome. Especially the voice cast signed for the roles. Phil Lamaar (John Stewart - Green Lantern) as Jazz was an awesome cast. A Robert Stack impersonator for Ultra Magnus (seeing as how the real Stack is dead). And Weird Al for Wreck Gar. Great, great picks all around. I think this series may outdo the past three by leaps and bounds.

Uh, that's only in the G1 cartoon. The comics are a different story; both Marvel and IDW posit them as coming to Earth searching for Shockwave in the prehistoric past (although in IDW's case the Ark didn't crash land four million years back) and in most G1-based comic continuities Grimlock is at least as intelligent as Starscream (his stunted speech is attributed to a vocabulator glitch; he would use that to his advantage to trick his enemies).
I only hope if TF Animated keeps Grimlock's stunted speech pattern, it also preserves his comic-book I.Q. (or at least makes him less stupid than he was in the G1 'toon).

Well, if people are running away from them screaming and messing their pants - as I suspect would probably happen in real life - I don't think anyone would be in a position to care, really.

I'd pretty much think they will go with the G1 routh. Bad speech and bad IQ.

Not quite true. Grimlock came to Earth searching for Shockwave in IDW, he was already ON earth, dormant in the Ark when Shockwave landed in Marvel. He was simply activated by the Ark's defensive systems to engage.
As for his IQ. Originally he was dumb as a brick, or just about as, in the comics. Arrogant, and a blowhard. Bob Budinsky kept his intelligence levels somewhere around what it was in Season 2 or late Season 1 of the show (not as abyssmal as Season 3). Simon Furman, who loved Grimlock to death, was the one who retconned in a considerably amount of intelligence onto the character. He was at least as smart as Prime when Furman wrote him, just not nearly as moral or compassionate.

I loved in the G1 cartoon how the Dinobots would **** the ark up inside. This happened more then once as far as I remembered. I also loved Grimlocks robot mode. Hated that they kept him in alt mode mostly in season 3.

To go a step further, here's the TF Animated Grimlock proto -

Outside of the G1 colors (not shown here, of course, but on the preview clip) and the sword, I kinda like these newer versions of Grimlock with the haunches and the raised tail.

Grimlock is good. He had be over aggressive. In the G1 cartoon he hated taking orders from the other autobots. In one ep he didn't want to help the autobots out. Himself and the other dinobots have destroyed the inside of the art more then once. They are not mean just not smart enough to grasp things at times.

well to be honest, i seem to like prime's toy more than his animation. the toy looks hot! his animation, especially when his face is covered by the faceplate, looks like *ahem* a cow. does the faceplate retract--the way it does in the movie--to show his face in the cartoon?reversely, what if the series does take off in such a way that it would affect the production of the movie sequel? just fodder for the imagination...

Yes the faceplate retracts like the movie.
If the series does not take off, it won't effect the sequel. The movie attracted all kinds of people, where as this cartoon will mostly attract kids. Kids will still a Transformers movie no matter what and the movie was already a success. People also know the movie makers have nothing to do with this cartoon.
