Okay folks, you're not going to believe how this just keeps rolling (and I'll get to your post in a sec TP. You should probably actually post that in the reviews...). I just finished my interview with CBC. It was pretty awesome. They got shots of me pretending to pack, sitting in front of my GR collection and even messin' around on the hype (great free promotion for this place too eh?). Fun stuff. It'll air tonight. I'm gonna try to record it.

THEN, when I came down to check my email and stuff, I got an message from the producer at ET Canada, telling me to call her... so I did. They want to do an interview with me in New York, both at the Hotel and at the Red Carpet. What's really the best part though is that they said they weren't even going to go to the premiere (the film not having any Canadian Content and all) but now are because of this story.

This is now Canada wide promotion. Holy crap.

I have no idea what a star note is, unfortunately...

So... I stepped out of the room for 10 minutes during the news and missed the freakin' piece they did on me and the trip. Sheesh. I can't believe that just happened. A friend called and tells me that it was a feature piece too, longer than most, I mean. He said they started with a build up of the movie and then turned to the trip.

Damnit.

I can not believe how much extra press this movie is getting just by the director inviting 3 fans from a message board. I wonder if this is the start of something at least for Sony

GR tries to use the Penance stare on Blackheart, but Blackheart tells GR that he doesn't have a soul, but once Johhny gets the scroll from Carter Slade & they both transform into Ghostriders &ride to San Venganza to free Roxanne from Blackheart GR reverts to JB because the sun is coming up & he must get Blackheart into the shadows, JB is the thrown into the mission doors he crashes to the floor Roxanne shoots Blackheart,JB tells Roxanne to throw him the gun,she tells him its out of bullets but tosses him the gun the tranforms into GR's gun which shoots Hellfire GR gives Blackheart the scroll @ San Venganza & all the souls enter his body GR uses the Penance stare & Blackheart is disposed of, then Mephisto enters & tells JB that he can now have his life back, JB says that he will keep GR.

Dude, take a breath. Thats got to be the longest sentence ever.
It was a fun film in the end wasn't it. Our group were the last people out of the cinema and I saw you with your family but I didn't think you'd remember me, so I didn't say hello.
Next time you watch GR TP keep an eye out for me. I'm the guy in the blue jacket and cap walking pass Eva as she is leaving the stadium. Then look for me screaming like an idiot after Nic completes his helicopter jump and just before he rides off. I'm the dude right next to Nic's head.

Mr Nick
02-14-2007, 06:01 PM
Just got home from watching GR in Melbourne with about 70 people including some film critics, it'll be interesting to see what the have to say in the morning papers.
You can only fit so much in two hours. Where do I start
Let me say that the transformation from JB to GR has to be seen to be believed(awsome). Watch the shadow in the tent when Mephisto enters the tent (see the real Mephisto just a glimpse).
The scene where JB is arrested & thrown in the lockup & his transformation while the detainees are fighting him is Great.
Watching the life getting drained out of people is awesome & to see Abigor get his on the rooftop after saying you cant catch the wind,GR then uses the chain to whip up a frenzy is great.
To watch Wallow expode in the water after he dismounts JB from his bike, then JB transforms into GR underwater & literally explodes Wallow ,Fantastic.
Well in short thats what happens, some of the scenes may be a bit ut of order,my mind is still trying to comprehend all the info together so that I can write all this for you guys. But in short go & see it. Yes JB kisses Roxanne, then in another scene Roxanne kisses JB, Roxanne has a great pair of assets.
I don't know if the critics will like the film but then thats why they are critics and if films were made for the critics we probably wouldnt like them.
MSJ has stayed true to the GR comics & thats what I was looking for. Entertaining & some lighthearted moments . Great effects my hat goes off to for the effects people, Oscar nominations I think.

Nice one, TP. That'll do fer me.

Do you think it's on line or that maybe they'd send you a copy?

FlameHead
02-14-2007, 07:49 PM
Actually, I just found out that it is indeed online. CBC puts their entire show online everyday. I had no idea...

Anyway, I feel really strange about posting this folks. I'm a huge dork first of all. Though, you guys probably all expected that. LoL. I'm way to excited for my own good. Plus, now you're gonna know me even more. That's scary.

Also, they took certain liberties in telling the story... but, that's too be expected from the media... even the media in small places. I'm not fond how the overplayed my 'friendship' with Mark... or the acting stuff at the end either. Either way, screw it, I'll let you know where to find it if you want to see.

Anyway, it's here and you can move ahead as soon as it loads. The piece is at the 20 minute mark:
http://www.cbc.ca/video/popup.html?http://www.cbc.ca/ondemand/hereandnow/stjohns.asx

If that doesn't work, to go http://www.cbc.ca/nl/.

On the right hand side you'll see "Watch CBC News: Here & Now". Click. Then, click "Latest newscast"

P.S. There a spot where they show me scrollin' down one of the pages here. You can see some of your names. LoL.

Advanced Dark

There is this really funny part at the end of it all when the anchors are talkin' about me. Debbie (the lady in red) says to Jonathan something about me going to the movie again the night I return. There's this really awkward silence when Jonathan doesn't know how to respond. I'm dyin' laughin' here... but, that could just be because I'm familiar with these people.

My day so far...

Wow, what a day, and I haven't even gone to the premiere.

So, it starts off all good and everything, I get to New York without a problem. Then, the airline losses my luggage! My suit jacket, pants, shoes, sweater, and even my deodorant was in that bag. On top of it all, I forgot my cell phone charger. After much disappointment from the airline that they haven't retrieved my bag (supposed to arrive around midnight!) I then go down to the front desk and ask where I can buy some clothes. So, I walk around New York City in the snow and ice with my sandles on (One guy even said "Cold feet?) I go this great store, find this jacket, shirt, and snazzy shoes.. and then my credit card gets denied. I then run across the street and find an ATM. I get money, buy the clothes, go to CompUSA, buy a phone charger. When I get back, I plug in the phone charger and get electrocuted!! Then, after freaking out some more, I finally got dressed, and am all ready to go. Wow, what a DAY!

I just talked to BIGGUN on the phone, he's here and alive... and Amy Conley, who is arriving soon.. FlameHead should be here any minute I would assume, he's yet to check in.

After all this, I do look good in this "new" New York City clothes!

:)

:)

Holly-crap-ola! Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay. Looking forward to what you'll 3 have to say about the movie.

All of us took tons of pictures with the cast and crew...

The movie was amazing, definitely met my expectations and I can't wait to see it again.

The after party was so much fun... we were brought around by the amazing and very generous Amy Conley from Sony Pictures and allowed to meet, talk to, and take pictures with practically every single star and cast member from the movie.

I'll have a complete write up tomorrow when I get home.

It's about 4 am now, and I have to get up in 4 hours to catch my flight back home.

02-16-2007, 10:40 PM
Im back...and man im tired!
flight was 2 hours late yesterday and i managed to get to hotel at 6....just a few minutes to get signed in and change for the movie.
Met up w/ MarvelMovies (cool kid but has some of the suckiest luck w/ luggage!:woot: ) and we both caught a taxi to the show. managed to get inside w/ no probs and found our seats fairly easily. bad thing is we had to sit in the 2nd row of theater. wasnt the best veiw but hey im not complaining.....too much! heh
MSJ did a short presentation at the start and it was cool and surreal to see Nic Cage, Eva Mendes and Peter Fonda sitting in the same movie theater w/ us watching the film.
Movie was just fun to watch...expected a monster movie and thats what i got. it wasnt perfect but i never expected it to be perfect...just to be faithfull to the heart and spirit of the comic. very happy w/ the end result
Amy (from Sony) was very sweet and EXTREMELY helpful. she helped MM and I get set up to go to the after party as well as meet the stars and producers.
Met up w/ Flamehead at the party too....sadly his flight was cancelled and had to miss the movie. It was a trip to finally meet the guy in person...really nice dude. Amy then started to get us to "make the rounds" in meeting everyone. They were all very cool to us...met Nic, Eva, Wes, Mark (again!), Gary Foster, as well Avi and Ari Arad. Avi actually remembered the letter that i sent him back in 94 and mentioned that his lawyers actually told him not to answer it! :wow:
after meeting everyone we stayed until about 1 maybe? left to go pick up a friend of MarvelMovie's and then went back to the hotel. after that we went next door to a 24hr diner called "flame" and had some pretty good diner food. we called it a night about 3am, said our goodbyes and hit the sack. only slept for about 4 hours so i could eat and get ready to leave. flight back was pretty easy....no probs.
the hotel was nice...but small rooms!
overall i had a great great time. New York is fun too...just go when there isnt a lot of snow!

^ What letter? I missed something.

oh yeah...that...heh
this is a story i wrote about here a long time ago here in the forums.
back in 93/94 i was getting really PO'd that GR kept getting the shaft time and time again regarding the movie and general merchandising. I felt that time was running out for Marvel to take advantage of GR's current popularity and that soon it would too late to do anything. I didnt expect a response i was just one frustrated fan that had to do something.
wrote this letter w/ really bad handwriting basically saying that i was fed up w/ Marvel not something about this.
well about 2-3 weeks passed and Avi sends me this typed letter basically saying "Read your letter and i too am also a huge Ghost Rider fan. if you want feel free to call me at the number to discuss it further". This was back when Avi was just given control of the movie dept (i think). called him up and we talked for about 10 min telling me his plans for GR. It was going to be PG13, a cartoon series, and a toy line.
thats pretty much it....but im amazed he actually remembers that and his lawyers were scared of me! hah!

Vartha
02-16-2007, 11:12 PM
lol Funny stuff I remeber you saying that awhile backlol
The only letter I got back from Marvel was from Jim Shooter after I had sent in some of my work, he basically said to go to Kuberts school and come in to Marvel's offices afterwards.

Advanced Dark
02-16-2007, 11:12 PM
^ The lawyers don't want you coming back at Avi and Marvel claiming they owe you money cause it was your idea if you had given him any. That's typical.

heh...no this was YEARS before "BIGGUN" came into existence.
i didnt write anything that could be considered an idea for a movie or story....just venting about the lack of promotion that GR was suffering from back in the early 90s.
but i dunno...lawyers can make a lawsuit out of anything!

Hey guys! Just wanted to say thanks for everyone who went to check out the movie. And to Stephen, Scott, and Shawn for coming to New York and hanging out with us. We had a great night and I'm so glad you guys got to share it with us. So sorry, Stephen, about the plane. I can so relate as I couldn't get a flight out of L.A. until the next day, was afraid I'd miss my own premier! Glad to hear everyone got home safe and sound.

Well, as expected, we were roundly trashed by many critics. Let's be honest, they were gunning for us before they ever saw the movie! But we're also doing better than anyone gave us credit for. Our Cinema Scores are good and people in general are really digging the movie with favorable word of mouth helping us to break the President's Day record! We will be at $50 million for the four day holiday weekend! And we are #1 around the world as we open. Usually Saturdays don't improve on Fridays for movies like this, but we did. That's a great sign. I know it won't be everybody's cup of tea -- we all have a different version of Ghost Rider in our heads and nobody will ever have it the same way. But I hope that all of you could find something in the movie that brought the wonder of seeing the Ghost Rider come to life. I'm off to Japan for yet more junket stuff.

Take Care!

From the best day of my life, to the worst and back again. Finally, here is my premiere write-up.

(If you want to skip the semi boring stuff, the after party is in bold)

My trip to New York kinda started on Monday of last week. This is the day that going to see the Premiere of Ghost Rider was starting to become real in my mind. Before then, it always felt like I was dreaming. Anyway, this is the day that I got a phone call from The Telegram to do an interview about the trip, as most of you've seen in this thread. Over the next couple of days, this front page article spawned a bunch of local promotion; print, radio and Tv. I still get recognized around town...

It even received national attention by way of ET Canada but, unfortunately, that turned out to be a lost opportunity. More on that in a second. Let's move to Thursday now actually, the day of the premiere. I'm a detailed oriented person, at times, so this may be long. Plus, it'll help me remember the day... not that there's really a chance that I'll ever forget.

I think I'll do this in a time line. Yeah... that's the ticket (which, by the way, I'm really sad that I didn't get a premiere ticket. They looked incredible...)

-------------------------------

-->> 6:00 Am (Newfoundland time, 1.5 hrs ahead of NY)

I wake up and finish last minute packing, showering and all that Jazz.

-->> 8:00 Am (NL Time, 1.5 Hrs ahead of NY)

I arrive at the airport in St. John's (my hometown). I proceed to check in my bags and when I do so, the ticket agent (or whatever they're called) recognized me from the news piece that aired the night before. Of course, she and the other 2 who where there, asked me questions. It's really starting to hit me hard what was about to happen at this point.

This is also the point that I realize I showed up WAY to early. My flight wasn't until 10:15 and there was literally nobody in the airport. So, I wait. I read my copy of Midnight Son's Magazine and wait.

-->> 10:00 Am (NL Time, 1.5 hrs ahead of NY)

After going through security about 45 minutes before and waiting near the gate entrance (while having a wonderful chat with a complete stranger to pass the time), this is when the first report of a delay in the flight. They say there is some mechanical trouble and the crew are looking at it.

Oh, at this point, we should remember that there was bad weather hitting many areas of the States and working it's way towards me. I actually started out the morning worrying that weather may cancel my flight. Fortunately, the weater didn't hamper my first flight at all..

-->> 11:00ish Am (NL Time, 1.5 hrs ahead of NY

The flight is canceled. Mechanical troubles ground the plane (yes, ironically, not weather). I'm forced to rush to the ticket agents and make new arrangements to get to NY. This turns out to be a very long process because of the international travel factor and the changing of airplanes.

As it turns out though, when the original ticket agent (the one that recognized me earlier) heard my flight was canceled, she immediately booked a ticket on the only other flight that would get me to NY today. I'm so grateful to this person. If it hadn't of been for her booking 1 of the only 2 seats left (and even better, executive class seats) I would never have left Newfoundland.

-->> 12:50 Pm (NL Time, 1.5 Hrs ahead of NY)

The new flights departure time. This one now going all the way to Toronto, Ontario (away from NY) instead of to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Also, because the plane had to be de-iced, it was at least 30 mins late leaving. ```

-->> 4:00 Pm (Eastern time, 1.5 behind Newfoundland)

I arrive in Toronto and have to get my bags, check them in again and go through customs (at an entirely new terminal which I have to get on a airtrain to get to). I also decide to, at this point, change into the clothes (in the airport bathroom) that I was wearing that night. I was supposed to be in NY at 2:30 with plenty of time to freshen up and what not.

-->> 5:15 Pm (Eastern, -1.5)

My flight to New York's original departure time.

-->> 8:30 Pm (EST, -1.5)

My flight to New York's actual departure time. Now, the weather that was approaching Canada from the south is affecting flights. Mine is delayed 3 hours. Again, I sit waiting in an airport as the day of my life is slipping away.

-->> 10ish PM (Est, -1.5)

Finally, I reach New York. At this point, my mind, body and spirit are on autopilot and time ceases to exist. As I go to get my luggage, I meet the driver who was to take me to my location. After finding out from the very amazing Amy (by phone) where I was to go (the after party) he took me there. I had an awesome conversation about New York with him as I drove through the biggest (by a long shot) place I've ever been. It was pretty amazing... until finally reaching the club with bags in tow.

-->> The After Party (Screw Time)

The first thing I notice after being dropped off is the Hellcycle sitting about 5 feet away from me. Reality hits. I call Amy and tell her that I'm here and she comes out to meet me and bring me inside. I return to get some snaps of the bike later on.

The bar was really nice and most of the stars were kinda centralized in a part sectioned off by couches and bodyguards. After checking my coat (and luggage) into the coat check and having a brief chat with MM and BG, I go to the bar for a drink. This is when Eva walks in with her posse (as I like to call it). That was fun...

After a while Mark noticed us outside the sectioned off area and moves to bring us inside. After a hug, we chat about me missing the movie, the movie itself. It was a brief chat, most of the chats with each person was, due mainly to it being a bar (with music) and them being people that people want to chat with. After a few minutes, he asked if we want to me Nic and of course, we want to.

We chatted with Nic about where we were from, the movie itself, his and Mark's fanhood of Ghost Rider and then had a picture taken with him and Mark before moving on to Eva. Didn't say very much to her, personally. I can't really remember much anyway but, we did take a few pics which was really nice.

After meeting the stars, we moved on to the behind the scenes folks. We met Kevin Mack first I think... or it could have been Ari Arad. Maybe the guys can clear that up but, Ari was awesome. We had a really long chat with him about this place, the movie, future movies. He was so approachable I found. Great guy.

Then, we met his dad, Avi. Big moment for me as I've always been a huge fan of his. He just always seemed like a lovable guy. Didn't chat with him that much but, I did get to mention how huge of a fan I am of his and asked him if he's going to bring us GR2. He said "We'll see after this weekend".

Gary was our next encounter, as in Foster (Aquinnah). He was such a nice man as well. We had a really long talk with him the hype and about how much Mark appreciated the fans. He really seemed to make it a point to reinforce that (as if we didn't know eh?). Great guy though. Really neat to get to meet him, especially after chatting with him here. Awesome guy.

A little while after meeting Gary, we noticed that Wes (Bentley) seemed to be getting ready to leave so we talked to Amy about meeting him. Of course, being as awesome as she is, she made it happen. Wes was awesome. Probably my favorite conversation of the entire night. I found it so easy to chat with him and what's funny, is that I barely talked about GR at all. It was mostly about American Beauty and him working with Kevin Spacey (because he's a fav, huge fan of mine). I did ask him if he'd return to a sequel and he said "We'll, he didn't so, it's possible". I said something along the lines of him being a franchise villain now and he told me to be sure to tell the studio that. Really, Really nice guy though. He's not just an awesome actor.

Shortly after this, MSJ approached us again and told us that he was leaving. We said our thanks and good bye's and that was it. I'm kinda disappointed that I didn't get more of a chance to talk with Mark. He was the one I wanted to meet most after all and it's still surreal that I did meet him. It kinda sucks that I didn't see the movie at the point of meeting him. Either way, he's an incredible man and I'm forever in his debt for doing this for us.

-->> After the After Party (Time is no matter still)

After finding out that drinks are now not free and also very expensive, we decide to leave the bar and head back to the hotel. Me, I check in and go upstairs to drop off my bags. Then the 3 of us and one of MM's friends go out to "Flame" (how freakin' perfect is that), which is right next to the hotel. After some good eats and some awesome conversation (and funny enough, very little of it about Ghost Rider) with some really awesome people (people I'm really happy to have finally met) we return to the hotel room.

-->> 4:00ish Am (EST, 5:30 Am Newfoundland time. Nearly 24 hours since I woke the day before)

I go to bed, still excited and peacefully drift asleep.

-->> 7:00 Am (EST, 8:30 NLST)

I wake up. Get showered and packed and ready to leave.

-->> 8:00 Am (EST, 9:30 NLST)

I'm picked up and taken to the airport. This is an hour drive and the driver isn't as talkative as the first. I spend the my time looking at New York (during this absolutly beautiful day) and think about what had happend the past few hours.

-->> 9:00ish Am (Est 10:30 NLST)

After a very long drive, we get to the airport and I proceed to do all my necessary airport stuff.

-->> 11:30 Am (EST 1:00 NLST)

The departure time for the flight out. It's about 30-45 mins delayed but, I have no further hitches that day. I actually arrive at the exact time, to the minute, that I was supposed to on my itinerary.

-->> 6:20 Pm (Newfoundland Time)

I arrive, get my luggage, get a cab home and prepare myself to go see the movie (for the first time). Unfortuanly, however, I can't find my house key and have to wait outside for 45 minutes for my room mate to arrive. When he does, I quickley get ready, pick up my girlfriend and proceed to the cinema.

-->> 9:25 pm (Newfoundland Time)

The lights dim and, finally, I watch the movie I've been waiting over a decade to see happen (along with 4 years of my life closely following it's process).

-------------------------------

Even though I spent a majority of thursday in a major depression sitting alone in airports, the trip was amazing. I'm so grateful to Mark for making this happen. He's an amazing person folks and I honestly would not have wanted any other man directing this movie. I'll never, for the rest of my life, forget this experience.

Oh, and I'm really looking forward to meeting BG and MM again. I'm gonna try and convince them to come visit me in Newfoundland... and that's an open invitation to any of you buggers.

And... that's it for me. Hope you enjoyed.

Oh, and about ET Canada... yeah, I didn't get a chance to do an interview with them. They went down there solely for that purpose... and it didn't happen. Sad... and funny.

Nice to hear from you after the film opened. Great job:up:

Mark, you succeeded with a very tough thing with this movie. You made work 3 completly different versions of a character by adding a little taste of each. You're choices and an obvious influence of Nic worked very well to create a very fun flick.

Of course the critics don't like it. Critics don't like fun movies.

Anyway, thanks again (I'll never be able to express that enough) for this amazing experience. It was awesome to finally shake your hand. Good luck with the junket stuff and best wishes with your future projects.

Keep us in the know!

Critics don't know how to reviews these kind of films consistently. Some films come off like living breathing comic books and they despise them...others are grounded in reality like Batman Begins...and they love them. They're different types of films. I though GR was just above average the first time because I felt like I was a reviewer watching it or something...I went back again and liked it quite a bit more. I'll see it at least one more time because I like sharing the experience with those who haven't seen it and I like watching the crowd reactions too. Of course there are things that need improving or removing nothing is perfect...hell that's why they make sequels. :)

Good to hear from you, Flamehead. And very pleased to hear you liked the film. Thank God that lady booked you on that other flight. Send her a box of chocolates or something :cwink: .

And, Mark, it's great to see you haven't been put off visiting us here by the negativity and harsh criticism that's blown into town since the movie opened (oh, what fun it's been). I was just wondering, will there be a big premiere here in London? There was one for Hot Fuzz last week in Leicester Square, but I wasn't that bothered. GR is, of course, a different matter.

Stay cool and enjoy the ride. I'm sure I will.

Wow, first: MSJ, you are a true gentleman. Hero, thank you for your komments and know this that me, my family and many of my friends loved the film and your superb work and the critics are a bunch of people without a heart and soul. (Their kinda like Black Heart, only not kool as he is)

FH, I'm really sorry that you missed the film but hey, I would give up everything I have and sell my soul to the devil at the same time, just for being there at the premiere to meet Mark.
FH thanks for the great report. The Mod Rider is BACK!

As MSJ said, a lot of people were bashing the film even before seeing it and went to see it just to hate it!! (Its a mad mad world afterall).

To MSJ:
Around the internet there are a lot of negative comments and talks about the movie and I know how terrible this sounds as you work for more than 3 years on a perfect film and those ...... come out of nowhere and bash the film without knowing a single thing about Cinema, Comic books and story telling.

And as a proof that critics are morons that dont know a thing about Cinema: In many of reviews but critics, they name MSJ as Electra's director!!! Like Yahoo Movies Review: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809248762/parentsguide;_ylt=Alp190ryVMYf5X._2HoYAe5fVXcA
(Now thats what I call total idiot who doesnt even know who directed the Elektra (Rob Bowman!?))

MSJ, know that your effort was not in vain and a lot of people understand and praise you, your film and your efforts. And not the people who like movies like Rambo or Rocky, a lot of serious Cinema lovers I know (Who have watched and enjoyed the films like The Queen, The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine, Thank You For Smoking, The Prestige, V For Vendetta and LOVED Them) that also really liked GR. In my book, Ghost Rider movie directed by Mark Steven Johnson is equal to all those great films, if not better. Of course those films and GR are not in the same dimension, but in their own worlds from Gangster Drama world or Dark Family Comedy realm to A blazing superhero territory, these films are the gods.

Take Care!

MSJ
Have Fun Mark, hope to see you back soon.

FH, MSJ...it all sounds freaking awesome!

I JUST got back from my first screening of the film (due to LOTS of snow)..and in two words, it was DAMN GOOD. Bring on the sequel man!

My favorite scene had to be The Ride in the Desert with Carter Slade/Caretaker and Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider...that alone would've been great, but adding "Ghost Riders in the Sky" made it a speechless moment for me. I absolutely adore that scene.

Mark Steven Johnson, I haven't even met you...and I can already tel you that YOU ARE THE MAN! Tell Cage and Mendes I said hi if you have the time, and bring on GR2!

Congrat's to the guys who got the chance to meet MSJ and the cast. That's really great! I didn't even know about it until I read this thread today.

I have a feeling the box office success of Ghost Rider is going to greenlight a sequel, and I hope the guys make a trip back to Australia for a second coming. I wanna meet 'em!

With a sequel they have a chance to refine what they made with Ghost Rider. My only main problem with it was the dialogue. Other than that it was good fun. Blackheart scared the s##t out of my mother with that 'screamer' moment. Funny as!

Hey guys, I just found out that the news about my trip to NY made it into a couple of other Canadian Newspapers. Figured you'd be interested to know...

First is this one from the Globe And Mail (which I find REALLY funny)
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20070217.LACEY17/TPStory/TPEntertainment/Movies/

Is it global warming or the fires of Hell?

Stephen Eli Harris, a Newfoundland Green Party candidate in the last federal election, is such a fan of the Ghost Rider comic books that he was invited to this week's New York premiere of the movie starring Nicolas Cage. Cage plays Johnny Blaze (Ghost Rider). The stunt motorcycle rider has sold his soul to Mephistopheles (Peter Fonda) and now serves as an infernal bounty hunter whose skull ignites and whose motorcycle lights up in flames.

Harris, a 28-year-old actor and telemarketer, has posted about 15,000 messages on superherohype.com, where he befriended Ghost Rider writer-director Mark Steven Johnson.

Now, before some self-righteous critic argues that an environmentalist has no business supporting a superhero who wears leather and poisons the atmosphere with his burning head and flaming motorcycle exhaust, let's put things in theological perspective. Think of those fires of hell as the ultimate renewable energy source.

The others are pretty much rehashing of The Telegram article posted earlier.

This one that was posted in the Calgary Herald.

The thing is, I never expected this movie to be as good as it even is now as a fun as hell throwback to westerns and pulp comics because I have absolutely no expectatioins for ghost rider, a hero I always saw as a few steps down from the better marvel characters. It was the same with sin city. I never cared for frank millers sin city until seeing how cool his stuff was in that film. So I don't get why many are uptight over this flick... since I doubt most really have ever even touched a gr comic. Either that or all they saw was the badly edited bootleg version.

It's not a throwback to anything but cheaply made superhero films. Aside from the special effects what is the difference between this film and films like Captain America, FF (1994), Punisher, JLA which are almost universally ridiculed for the same problems like horrible acting, non existant plot, awful direction/editing, etc. Although I liked Ghost Rider in the few comics I've read with him in it I was never a fan but I can understand how a real fan would feel if they butchered my favorite character. Heck it's being done in every marvel and dc film as we speak.

Advanced Dark
03-01-2007, 06:49 PM
^ The characters are not being butchered. The studios realize presenting the characters as a purist fanboys wetdream would turn off 99% of the audience which does NOT really care so much about comics to the extent of complaining about hair color, a villains origin being changed, or how big a The Thing's brow is.

Yes because the studios really know what the public wants. Has it occurred to you that maybe the reason why these characters have endured for so long is because of how they were written in the first place? Maybe changing that very aspect of them is why some don't do as well as they're supposed to or have no lasting impact with the public. To MSJ's credit he didn't alter too much to the Ghost Rider character from what I hear. He just made an awful film.

Obviously the changes have worked because the films have done better than expected. MSJ did not make an awful film. MSJ made a film that some people thought was awful, some people thought was average, some people liked alot, and some people loved. It we judge by the polls on this hyper critical board most people enjoyed it or thought it was better than average. If we judge by the box office it did better than most expected, if we judge by the critics then we honestly have no brain. People like different films for different reasons. To me I can't understand why anyone likes the King Kong movie in it's entirety let alone people calling it a masterpiece. To me it was crap. However...I understand people out there love it. Do I get it? No. Do I go to King Kong message boards to contantly talk about how bad it was. Nope. I move on to things I like.

well i dont know about anyone else here who didnt like the move, but I keep coming here n usually saying how much i didnt like the movie b/c i love the comics when i was a lil kid and still do now. its not like im someone who doesnt read or like GR comics and hated the movie n decided to come here to constantly bash it. i do it cause i care about how the movie was (in my opinion and others) handled the way it was, which is to say it was handled poorly. im not here to bash the movie anymore, but i will say something once in a while, whether its a response agreeing with someone or disagreeing, depending on what it is.

then there are posts where im saying Why it is i keep coming back, and again which is b/c i care. you wont find me posting how much i disliked any of the other movies for whatever reasons b/c i dont care that much about them as i do with GR. that's all i have to say as to why Im still here.
