wow that time machine thing is real!!! FREAKY!!!! What the hell is up with that?!
Also, by any chance- off topic, but does anyone understand Batman 666? Was that supposed to imply that Damian would follow in his father's footsteps and become a vigilante and possible take on his own father's legacy of the Batman?

"The whole thing is gonna blow!!!"
Or that scene with Gordon when Bats comes to the intoxicated Narrows:
"It's a psychedelic hallucinogen set to intoxicate..." something like that, but he said it so fast and such "big words" that it just looked weird to me. Batman imo is a man of action and not many words.

I thought this film wasn't going to have a Joker origin...
You're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm not saying they are going to show it, or even directly imply it. What I am saying is that his insanity is a result of his deformity, how ever that came to be.
It doesn't have to show anything other than the fact that he is indeed white skinned, this automatically implies that he was in some freak accident.

How about that the Tumbler jumped across the water and landed a meter away from Gordon, handy. Or Gordon repeating what Batman said for the slow. Or Rachel finding the same Narrows boy to hug. Or the reference by the mentor back to the training scene. "You could die, tell me everything" "It's what I doooo" :csad:

I have a TON more confidence since Jonathon wrote the screenplay with Chris, NOT Goyer.
I really like BB, but it did have some "cringe worthy" moments. I'm still confident this Joker is not what he seems.

I still think we're being led to believe something that will turn out different in the end.
One thing's for sure, I'm very curious as to how this story is going to be told. Knowing both Jonathon and Chris, this should be one hell of a story full of characterization, intrigue, and more than likely, a nice twist at the end.
It's shaping out to be like TLH in a way.
Wikipedia:
The plot follows Batman's struggle to find a mysterious killer, while Harvey Dent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Dent)'s and Jim Gordon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Gordon)'s marriages are strained during the process. As the story unfolds, Carmine Falcone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmine_Falcone) hires "freaks" (Poison Ivy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poison_Ivy_%28comics%29), the Riddler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Riddler), the Scarecrow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scarecrow_%28comics%29), and the Mad Hatter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_Hatter_%28comics%29)) in an attempt to stop the Batman and restore power back to the family, only to discover that the freaks are more powerful than he expected.
It seems like the mobs run to Joker for help against Batman, but they do not realize that Joker has nobody elses motivations in mind except his own, and I think there is some sort of rift thereafter between mob and Joker (remember the bank sides? I won't say precisely what happened because I know the new spoiler policy, but anyways) and it all spirals out of control.
This movie is begging for twists lol. Between the plot we know so far, and Jonathan Nolan(? I think that's his last name too) behind it...

Well, to play Devil's Advocate here, pretty much every flick does this type of thing - it is a movie after all based on a comic book character.
The only moments in BB I really disliked was the Tumbler landing next to Gordon and his whole speech with it ending with the terrible "can you drive a stick?" and Rachel telling the cop she's an Assistant D.A. and she should be allowed to pass, no questions asked. Glad the cop asked for ID.

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but his insanity could still be the result of a deformity, said deformity being his mouth. His new 'Chelsea grin' look makes him think he looks too much like a clown, and therefore he takes it a step further by making himself up to look like one completely.
Sorry if I'm rambly or incoherent. I'm very tired, dealing with a cold and drank a little too much tussin.

That bit with Rachel and no ID is the bit that killed me - only time I cringed during the movie.
I've said it a million times, but when she put her hand up she should have been holding a DA's badge. Then it would be a perfectly acceptable moment.

Yeah, that was bad.
If they would have cut out that cheesy "can you drive a stick" scene and did something a little different (like how Goyer's original screenplay read), it would have been better.
Also, I forgot the third thing - I didn't like Gordon taking the Batmobile, it read better in Goyer's original draft. It did establish their friendship and trust a little more, but to me, it was a bit much right off the bat.

Memento and The Prestige.
Slight correction, Memento was written by John as a short story, from which the script is based off of. The actual screenplay the movie was made on, was done by Chris.
Prestige was John's first screenplay as far as I know.

I'm on the fence with that theory -- that is to say, i've noticed exactly what you're saying. Look at the scar on his cheek, notice the different shades of red in there, the striations. In some ways it does look like the red is a result of his injury. On the other hand it could be face paint.

We have been told time and time again that his skin is white - the neck is painted. The face is not.
The reason the face is not pure white is because they wanted it to have some tone - as though there is blood pumping beneath his skin - as there is, I hope, beneath yours.

I'd disagree. The Killing Joke, because of what he does to Barbara Gordon, emphasizes that the Joker is both physically and sexually threatening, which IMO is very creepy. Not all Joker's have that to the same degree. Some characterizations I would argue are very asexual. The pic and Keyser's spec suggest that to some degree however that TDK Joker will share that characteristic with the Killing Joke one.

Didn't know. That's pretty cool. Probably means despite how we feel about the visual takes on the characters, the characterizations themselves will probably be close to accurate.

From what I see, the fleshy spots on his face and the black eye paint, it's almost like he does have white flesh in an unbalanced tone. As for the spy pics that don't have this detail to it, it could mean that he does use white make-up to even things out. Over all, The Joker looks creepy and disturbing all the way. Which is a +5 in my book.
He could very well be perma-white, but not exactly what we're thinking perma white means. See the fleshy spots? His skin could act very un-even with the chemical bath idea. Like how using acne cream does on skin. I notice the flesh tone around the cut-smile and that could be due to scaring. Something about this image has me very uneasy. Just the way the white, the red, and the flesh tone mesh together. Somethings going on with it, I just can't place my finger on it.
But the make-up/white-skin thing is secondary to all this now. It's going to be Heath's acting and skills of playing The Joker that really matters when it comes down to it. I'm pretty sure Heath's going to blow us all away when we see him on screen. Weither or not the image works well with his acting is yet to be seen. But from the new pictures, That is THE JOKER! He's scary to even look at. Him with Rachel, the knift threating to slit her. He looks like he's just admirring what he's about to do. (I hope he actually does what he wants to do to Rachel, but The Batman always finds a way to intervien)

Joker being written as asexual doesn't necessarily mean he still can't enjoy his vicious acts. I take it more of as a "substitute" for sexual pleasure.
I'd argue that no matter what take Joker is written in, sadism is that one constant found in all characterizations.

Me thinks the new picture is from the "party" scene The Joker crashes in the penthouse. Its just a guess though.
I think you're right. There was a spy/rumor report a while back that stated Joker crashes the party, demands to see Dent (thinking he's Batman), and then kidnaps Rachel (or at the very least, grabs/threatens her.)

Greetings good people. I'm new to posting, but I've been following these boards for a long time. I've gotten a lot of good info from you folks and I appreciate it.
I was wondering if anyone looked up the code violations based on the Joker's case file from today's WSS site? I did some quick searching and based my findings on the California legal system. After reading the descriptions these offenses seem right in line with the Joker. I'm not sure what other state to explore (Cali does make sense, but Illinois would make even more sense).
Oh yeah, if this was posted already don't bite my head off. I did search the forum but I didn't come up with anything.

Here is my opinion of what The Joker will be like in The Dark Knight. In three stages...
stage one: The Joker is a criminal who leaves cards and wears clown masks with his crew. During a bank robbery, the batman somehow lashes his face.
stage two: The deformation left him with a sadistic sense of humor. A year or so later he reemerges dressed and painted like a clown. He becomes obsessed with hysteria and anarchy in Gotham, he also becomes incredibly interested in the batman, all this with a sense of humor that his goons don't even get. Somehow at the end of The Dark Knight, around the same time Harvey Dent is scarred, the batman brawls with him and ends up throwing in chlorine or chemicals. Batman barely escapes. Gordan says something to batman along the lines of "before- the crime in this city could be bought, is was part of an organization you helped bring down.... They are all dead. Now Gotham is left with maniacs. Men that the cops can't understand... but they think you do. They believe you can... and you only made them bleed." The End.
stage three: The Joker makes his return in the third Nolan Batman film. Now completely pale head to toe, his red lipstick stained only around his lips and faintly around his gash, the dark around his eyes diffused a bit but permanent, the bleached green hair, also permanent. His white face, now scarred, looks grayish. He becomes more obsessed with the batman and has little recollection of his life before the dark knight entered Gotham.
This would leave the hype around what the Joker would look like in the third equal or greater to the hype he holds now. Fun times.

Not in exactly those terms, but sure. Nolan said from the beginning that Ledger is a fearless actor.
Ledger in his turn said Joker is a shark. "A fearless shark."
I think that, in effect, had Depp, or Glover, particularly, done the role they would have played it their way, as you say. Their same ol' "crazy" recipe. With Ledger... I wouldn't say he's a blank slate, he's a talented actor with a good resume behind him. But he's never done a role quite like this, and that means that he has to create something, to do something he's never done, instead of falling back on an old pattern like some of those other guys would have.
So in effect - I niggle over the wording, but I agree with the principle.

The twist is that the Joker's face is actually a mask that reveals Rachel underneath. She put a mask on Dent that looked like her to fool everyone, then cut her face because Batman's kinky like that.

Well that is kind of what I meant. You just did it a whole lot better.

He's played quirky characters, but I would hardly simplify his roles as "Depp plays whacky guy doing whacky things".
By that token, Bale plays "disturbed guy, doing disturbing acts" in all his movies.

I dunno, I just think he relies on his charm and humour too much, instaed of using the undoubted acting ability he has. I do think he's played a lot of very similar roles in a similar manner thoughout his career, and I think his Joker would not have been as much of a surprise as Ledger's could be, in the way that Nicholson's was not that far removed from just another crazy Nicholson role.

Well I don't know about that. His 2 latest "weird" roles, that being Wonka and Sparrow, are similar in their outspoken personalities with quirky mannerisms. I hear ya. I was just bustin' ya balls a little bit. EH. I agree with what you've posted. Ledger does have somewhat of a clean slate - as opposed to the others - which, to me at least, could serve to make his version of the Joker 'iconic' if he turns in as good a performance as what's being hinted at. I have to agree that if someone like Depp was in the role of Mr. J, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch from what he usually does, however this is going to challenge Ledger, and we'll get a version of the Joker that stands apart from the rest without too much pre-existing influence. I have to agree that I was hesitant about Ledger's competency as an actor in this particular role, but I'm happy to admit that I'm hopeful now.

Well considering I think Damon is a terribly overrated actor I cannot see why anyone would go to a film to see him act. :woot:
DiCaprio is still pretty young and Bale has literally just broke in to the big time. But Depp feels almost as if he is approaching Brando after 1972. Does that mean he can't act? No Depp is an amazing actor. But he is reaching that point that everyone else does that it is more of him in the role then it should be.
The only actor I can think of that made it as big that avoided that was James Stewart. But that is because he drastically changed his roles later in his career to do so.

Gordan says something to batman along the lines of "before- the crime in this city could be bought, it was part of an organization you helped bring down....
Fun times.

Personal opinion really. I guess I probably worded it terribly.
Let me try and put it differently. I feel that whenever the masses watch a film to see a specific actor their ability to just blend into a role is gone. Even just a little. There are obvious exception of course, but unless the actor attempts to keep the roles different it doesn't happen. So in a way it is there fault. They choice roles that tailor to them.
Depp is almost always going quirky. I loved him in Finding Neverland because he seem to avoid it.

And when I say themselves it is their onscreen persona. Not usually their literal self.

yeah so anyway, I think a central tenet of the joker is that he has a vampire-like desire to make some of his victims the same as he is, spreading his face via his venom/laughing gas, which is diminished if he's just some nutjob in paint
Considering this thread is over 450 pages long I'm sure someone has already said this, but...
Considering Nolan is a fan of the 'twist' ending, perhaps at the end of the film when the Joker is captured and they go to wash the face paint off only the dark around the eyes and lipstick come off...and the flesh colored neck revealing that his face (and body) really is bleached but he's been just screwing with everyone?

We have been told time and time again that his skin is white - the neck is painted. The face is not.
The reason the face is not pure white is because they wanted it to have some tone - as though there is blood pumping beneath his skin - as there is, I hope, beneath yours.the question now is why is the skin under the hair nto white and why is the ear inside not white.

What i love about the picture is the menace and threat in it,it's a terrifc shot to convey how deadly The Joker can be
I like the defiant look in Rachel's eyes too, she's not the damsel

Does anybody else find it odd that his make up is almost different in every pic?
One of the IMAX shots has his smile reaching back to almost his ears.
The first spy pic just has flesh colored face with red lips and green hair.

If it's lipstick than maybe he can't put it on precisely the same size each time

Yea, its too different just to be the makeup dept being inconsistent each day, must reflect the Joker's mood or something.

Is that Heath's voice you think??
Even though it's REALLY DEEP, I hope it's his voice:)

You know...I liked pretty much everything about Nolan and Heath's Joker until I saw that new picture. His "smile" looks like he drank a bowl spaghetti o's and forgot to wipe his mouth.

I don't like the idea, and I doubt it will go that way. Batman, Scarecrow and Ra's were all more or less unrecognisable at the start of Begins, but became quite representative of their classic guises by the end. Maybe The Joker will follow suit.
Well some of the joker pics are much different so his appearence does change dramatically from one spectrum to the other, the proof is in the leaked pictures!

Sounds like it to me. Whether it's actually Eckhart, (which i doubt), or a lackey/voice actor used just for the website remains to be seen. Two-face is already confirmed to be in the movie (not just Dent), so it seems like a possible teaser for the character.

i think it is paint afterall.

watch the part where the hair starts. if he would have white skin than under the hair the skin would still be white. but it is normal color.
Hey guys look at his smile, notice the indentation where the end of his red scar ends? It looks like he covered more scaring with make up. I bet his scard smile goes further up his face to the end of the indentation.
What do you guys think?
Actually I change my mind, I know his scar goes further up his face, the end of the scar in the picture is only half of it!
