But there will be differences; much of the inspiration for Heath's Joker seems to have been an effort to differentiate it from Nicholson's. I think they will seem like entirely different sides of the same coin.

In any case, I like Romero, Nicholson and Hamill's Jokers; Heath's is just another one to add to the pile.

Agreed:up::up::up:

Just a discussion point..

Now that we've been shown pictures of Heath as Joker, footage in the form of the IMAX showing (which i haven't seen cos i'm an aussie :csad: ), all the viral campaigning and hearing his voice as the joker..

Can anyone say how they'd feel if Paul Bettany or Crispin Glover or any of the other rumored or discussed actors that were up for the role (in reality or in debates on this forum) got it and were in Heath's stylishly worn & beaten socks & shoes in the role..?

For example, how would Paul Bettany (who i was actually really hoping would get it, but am really happy with everything i've seen of Ledger) look/act/sound/do in the role in the new Nolanverse Gotham..?

In your opinions..?

im going to have to say that even though in a million years i never saw it coming, ledger is absolutely perfect in every way for this role. i think glover would have just out and out tweaked it to ridiculousness (imagine his charlie's angels character but with green hair and a painted face). glover just doesnt seem like an actor who would take it that seriously, especially given his supposed hatred for big budget, and bettany just isnt that great as a villain (see the da vinci code), or, in my opinion, as an actor. im really glad nolan decided on ledger. i think my main interest still is just how they came onto him. like, what particular film or role gave nolan the idea, or was it ledger coming to nolan, or what? suffice to say the dvd features will be interesting.

When i first heard it was ledger i wasn't expecting it but i thought about it and i think he's a good actor. I figured he'd be pretty damn good and wouldn't disappoint. as everythings progressed, with the viral campaign, and pictures, and especially now after seeing the prologue i know its going to be an epic and awesome performance.

In TDK, Joker will apply make up. Toward the end of TDK, Something will happen to Joker, either he will do it to himself, or Batman will.. to where Joker will be come White forever.. (ex toxic waste). Then , In the 3rd film, Joker will return , crazier than ever.. and Batman will have to deal with both the Joker, and Two-Face. If Nolan plans to be finished after this 3rd film, (which he does have a 3 film contract right?), then he will pull out all the stops on the 3rd one. Why would you JUST have Two-face in the 3rd and final film. I say bring Joker back , crazier.. and Let Batman battle them both. TDK Will be Joker's coming out "party"... Be gentle

Nope, don't think it is paint mate. It is a burn. There was some viral site that popped up around the same time the Emipre pic was released about Gotham's Hospital or something for burns and acid, some stuff like that, cannot remember it properly. But it lead me to think the Joker has been burned on his right hand.

I think we all can agree that it's not a very good image, since it's cropped off just like the first pic. Some kid with that Iron On printer paper could have done the same exact thing. At least the image of him sitting in the chair looks interesting, that first pic looks like Nolan tried to give props to that Bohemian Rhaspody Queen video.

And there is always room for Blame.

You know what I was thinking for Joker and the whole PERMA WHITE issue.

I can't see Joker sitting in Arkham, or being on trial...with a "CLEAN FACE".
I cannot see it, because you would just be staring at Ledger...RIGHT?

Well somewhere in TDK I think it would be interesting (I apologize if this has already been brought up)...interesting if Joker accidently became perma white during a scene with Batman.

The Joker is a chemical genius, and works with highly toxic chemicals.
For example:
WHAT IF: Joker was in a scuffle with Batman, and he decides to whip out some sort of chemical to use on Batman.

The chemical backfires, or Batman blocks the splash or SOMETHING crazy WHO KNOWS.

But the chemicals splash all over Joker's face (while he is wearing the clown face paint) thus causing the chemicals to burn the paint into his skin. Scarring his whole face perma white because the face paint just became permanent due to the deadly chemicals.

I think that could work, it would ALSO give Joker a reason to Hate/Love Batman.

He could be obsessed with how they are the same...Ying to his Yang. And he could love him for scarring his face because he loves being the Joker, but he could also hate him for it.

I think this is a way around the chemical bath idea.

Still involves Batman, still involves chemicals.

Hmm, has it ever been confirmed what that footage was for? I'd love if the chemical accident was featured. I dread the potential that it would occur AFTER Joker is already established. I see no point to that plus it just seems overly contrived. If permawhite is being included, do it from the beginning.

dk7, that is actually a pretty neat theory.
personally, i don't think there will be a "twist" when it comes to the joker's skin....it just seems to miniscule to be a plot twist. Nolan seems to be going for "permawhite" in the sense that the joker will not take his makeup off. But if there does end up being a twist, it won't matter to me. The way heath plays the character is the biggest factor imo, and he already looks the part.

I agree with everything you have just stated.

I honestly love how Heath looks, especially the prologue, he looked so insane...it was incredible.

BUT, I am just curious as to what he would look like in Arkham?

Would they let him keep his make up on?

Like...I dunno, I just hope that is taken care of...I don't want something that small leaving a sour taste in my mouth.

I know the movie will be outstanding, the energy in the opening scene sold me.

But if I see Joker sitting there in a straight jacket, and it is just Heath Ledger (that's when I get disapointed):bh:

People have noted they'd be fine with the makeup so as long its never removed in Arkham. Or if it is, Joker's face (which would be relatively normal) shouldn't be shown. I'd be displeased with it anyway because I KNOW its fact that Joker would be lacking the clown look while he's in there. Seems like turning the cheek the other way if you ask me. Not seeing it doesn't change it's existence.

Maybe some psychologist says its unethical to take the make-up off because you could shatter his psyche or something like that.

Hmm, has it ever been confirmed what that footage was for? I'd love if the chemical accident was featured. I dread the potential that it would occur AFTER Joker is already established. I see no point to that plus it just seems overly contrived. If permawhite is being included, do it from the beginning.
Yes, don't want to see that. Too contrived - he likes to dress up as a clown, and THEN has an accident that permanently makes him look like one. Mmmm. Thanks, but no.

I have a question...
In a lot of the pics of Joker, there seems to be something wrong with Joker/Ledger's right hand. It looks like it has been burned or something. It's especially evident in the pic where he is sitting on the bench in the jail, but yoiu can see it in the leaked pics as well.
Does Ledger have something wrong with his hand, or is that something of the Joker's?

That might be a good way to do it. Besides, if you tell the Joker to take his makeup off, he's not gonna do it himself. Which means a guard or something would have to do it, and then the Joker would probably bite his hand or something. Or his face. Helllloooooo Hannibal Lector!

Do you think they really are that random tho? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but Nolan did allude to Tally Man in BB, so maybe they're future villains to come. Or even his henchmen or something.

But yeah, if they were henchmen or someone not related to the Joker at all, they do take away from the pic a little bit. Especially the camo guy on the right.

And it's not just in this pic, it's in all the leaked pics I have seen where his hands are visible.

Now that would be exactly NOT what Nolan and company want from this viral campaign...
Even on the whysoserious website, we were being told constantly not to get into trouble, and I am sure assaulting someone would amount to "trouble".
If they were to hear that something like that was related to the marketing campaign, they would shut it down in a hearbeat.

The Joker (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000434/): What's the matter, Batman? No witty comeback? No threat? Then I'll provide the narration...

The Joker (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000434/): I'll begin with how I peeled back the layers of the boy's mind. Oh, he bravely tried to fight it at first. You would've been proud to see him so strong.

Bruce. It's true, Batsy! I know everything. And kinda like the kid who peeks at his Christmas presents, I must admit, it's sadly anti-climactic. That's the part i loved about ROTJ! dk7, i agree that MOTP is a really good showcase of batman vs. joker, i just loved the flashback scene in ROTJ because of how the joker tortured robin and really got under batman's skin.

A truly magnificent scene. ROTJ was the darkest version of BTAS Joker. Definitely Hamill's darkest performance as Joker.

i really like his look in ROTJ too....minus the shaved head of course....but i thought that they had progressed really really well with his facial expressions. I always liked that "new" look (the flashback look) better than the new batman adventures look. I dunno why but the face of that look just didn't do it for me

I disliked the TNBA Joker design, not enough color, he only wore purple and green, and his lips were not red. The TAS design is better.

But I love ROTJ, the Joker was quite dark in there, and had some really great lines. I loved MOTP Joker as well(probably my favorite from the animated series).

you havent seen the uncut version? i posted it a couple of comments ago, its a much more fitting death.

as for my favorite comic, im not really sure but im leaning towards detective comic number something or other, the one where joker kidnaps Robin and runs over holiday shoppers making Tim watch

Grant Morrisons Batman #663, Dark Knight Returns, The Killing Joke, Death in the Family, Batman Confidential, Dini's Detective Comics #826 issue where he kidnaps Robin in the car,

and Going Sane, for sure

others would include Laughing Fish, Five Way Revenge, The Man Who Laughs etc etc, these are good but they're not favourites of my own.

i love and hate batman confidential's joker
it's cool how they did the whole new approach to an origin...but i can't stand they did an origin....

that's the reason why i love the TDK joker so far....instead of being forced to become the joker (ala dump in chemical bath), he chooses to be the joker.

TKJ was a big comic for joker because for some people it clearly defined the whole origin idea. Because of that story, a lot of people find it necessary for joker to have the chemical bath, they feel it's integral to the character. personally, i don't understand why, because even at the end, joker says he remembers it different ways. While i personally like joker to be a mystery, some people want to know why and how he came to be the way he is. Mysteries are made to be solved after all.

I only see Confidential as being the final step in Jokers origin/evolution, he's almost already the Joker when we meet him. It was smart of Green to do it that way, it enables the story to be more about Batman and how he reacts to Jokers existence.

Personally, I love TKJ for everything other than the origin. The origin is fine, and I like the way it ends with the Joker saying that he remembers it a different way every time, that if he has a past he prefers it to be multiple choice. But for me the real essence of TKJ is the Joker's characterization throughout the A storyline.

almost, but that's it, almost. I agree with you though that it was smart of Green to do a different take, but i personally just don't like joker origins. Batman, imo, should react to joker's appearance when joker first appears as joker, not when he is "becoming" the joker. Then batman can go "who the f*** is this guy?" and is not able to determine the answer. This makes joker more random and dangerous. I've always liked that batman and joker dont know their true identities, because the conflict is between batman and joker, not bruce wayne and whoever the joker is (i refuse to say jack napier:oldrazz: ) but again, my opinion.

speaking of batgirl, i always wondered how Gordon showed more restraint towards joker than batman did, joker did more to Gordan than to batman, he shot and paralyzed his daughter and then killed his wife. All Gordan did was shoot him in the knee. If someone had done that to my family i would have aimed a little higher.

Posted this in another thread but thought i should add it here. Sums up my feelings on the joker.

I like the idea of him not reapplying or taking it the make up. Its almost as if one day this guy went nuts and put the makeup on believing he was the joker. now he is so insane that he doesnt believe he needs to reapply it because that persona is all he believes. as the make up gets worse he is sinking deeper into psychosis. the concept now that i look at it is really ingenious. I also like that there is no backstory. sometimes a back story isnt necessary, one day this guy shows up. We are put in the same position as Batman, one day we just have to deal with this guy. besides if the joker had a back story then we might empathize with him if we see what he was before. Nolan doesnt want us to empathize with the joker, he wants us to be terrified of him. All i hope is that at the end the joker ends up at Arkham, just like the comic books, and at the end we are left thinking that the joker wont be behind those walls forever, sort of a devious smile or something to show gotham hasnt seen the end of his terror.

Nope. She, and the rest of my family(besides my awesome and faithful dad) think that Jack is the one and only......they dont wanna believe he's a comic book character.

it's kinda funny actually. it shows how much of an influence jack has had with his tenure as the character.

but heath is gonna be in the spotlight soon....heheheh

Very good point. I just hate how people are rolling their eyes at heath saying, "ugh, its just like Jack! Leave Jack alooone!"

And the ones that DO like heath say, "Oh cool, just like Jack!".

Never has anybody said, "Hey, Bale is just like keaton!"

But Still I definitely understand wot you mean.
