Why Are You Crouching Spock?

Actually it makes sense to me now. If you'll watch the prologue again closely you'll see that the corner he is standing on, he is at an angle. So when the pull up and hit the corner they don't actually see his face, and then when you see it hit the corner and it is pulling up he hurries to put the mask on.
Yea, but wouldn't they seem him in the car mirror?

They weren't paying much attention, simple as that. Were just concentrating on getting to the bank. Wouldn't let it worry you, but it obviously does :p

You know, I'm starting to think the look isn't half bad. I went from hating it to disliking it, but now I'm thinking it's rather decent, with what they're going for. Don't get me wrong, don't think I love it but I think it's actually 'working' in this film.
And first Joker wearing a pink nurses outfit, now it looks like he's in a garbage bag when he kills Loeb, wouldn't want to stain his suit. This is too perfect:woot:
Al ot of Nolan's designs are like that. They don't leave everlasting first impressions. However, they tend to grow on you: Tumbler, the batsuit (both versions), Batpod, etc.
WIth the Joker, I like the 'sloppy' look. I would like for him to wear a thicker coat of white paint on his face. But the more I watched the trailer, I was like "Hey, it's not bad".

You do realize this is the early stages of the Joker right? The fact that he doesn't reapply the make-up makes it spread all over his face and make his entire face white.

so you think it spreads? i didnt consider that, but it makes more sence because the end of the trailer is clearly closer to the end of the movie and his face is completely white there.

The joker must re-apply his make up at least once in the film regardless of what we herd. The prologue is the first part of the film and in the bank scene his make-up is all messed up. However his make-up at the dinner party, and also when he shoots the rocket lanucher looks really good. He must re-apply it at some point, remember there is also a scene when his looking in a mirror so maybe then?

Something tells me we haven't seen any footage of Joker post-arrest yet... I think it goes bank robbery--> dinner party--> semi chase/batpod confrontation--> arrest--> some grand climax we don't know about yet/
the scene with the two barges
and that Joker reapplies his makeup after the bank robbery and then again after the arrest/escape. Hell, he may look totally different than the pics we've scene after he busts out of prison.

Did anyone else get a BTAS feel from the rocket lanucher clip. Joker fires the thing and then recoils and winces, almost like he didn't know how much power it would have and he bit off more than he could chew.
Reminds me of the BTAS Joker doing way more damage than he intended and just smiling and saying "Woops!"

Who didn't like it?!I didn't like it at first, but then I saw it in motion and totally had a change of heart. That seems to be the way I look at things most of the time with Nolan's movies.. don't like it so much in pictures, but when I see it in motion, it wins me over. I really like his Joker a LOT more when he's in motion than just in pictures.

I'm really not crazy about Ledger's portrayl of the Joker. They seem to have gotten the sociopath characterization right, but I also feel Ledger's Joker is a bit too dry. It seems like they wanted to get so far away from Jack's over-the-top Joker that they took all of the clown out of him and made him into a poor man's Two-Face who laughs too much.

I'm actually glad Nolan made the Joker how he is. I wouldn't want him to be a copy of Jack's Joker, so I'm glad they took their own approach, and are creating a monster out of this Batman Begins saga. It spices things up and makes things appear more real. Personally, I'm liking Nolan's and Ledger's Joker more than Jack's.

I feel that Ledger's Joker will have a great sense of humor, be it more sadistic or sick to the audience, it will be his sense of humor.
This Joker, Ledger's, seems more into the action of things, which I love. I'm not saying prievous Joker's weren't, but seeing it on film is awesome. Him firing the tommy gun at Batman, launching the rocket, and what looks to be knifing people, looks great.
Oh, I definitely don't want a clone of Jack's, Joker. At the same time, I don't want a Joker who is void of what makes him the Joker. His sense of humor.
I don't think he'll be void of his sense of humour, he just won't be as silly or campy as Romero/Nicholson. They have already said many, many times in the past that he is heavily being based off of his first two appearances. He wasn't as silly and full of jokes in those first appearances. From what we've all seen in the trailer, I think he still will have some humour to his personality.
Like that scene where he is laughing his ass off while driving the big rig. Remember, what he does or says is usually supposed to only be funny to him and not others(minus us demented Joker fans). :woot: :cwink:

But to address your point, I do think the sense of humor will be intact, one that would be more on the darker side. I thought there was a bit of humor in the "You've got a little fight in you, I like that" line, as well as the high pitched "Like Me" proceeding this talk about Batman being lost into a world of freaks. And the laugh was great I think the characterization is coming off very nicely, I only wanted him to look a little more vibrant.

I don't know about that, I was actually surprised by the amount of devilish playfulness and sadistic sense of humor Ledger showed in the trailer. That's actually what I loved about the trailer: one scene the Joker is completely psychotic, the other scene The Joker is playful, but in a devil kind of way.
His sense of humor is not as obvious as Jack or Cesar's, it's more subtle. And that's more appropriate in Nolan's movies. W/C is great because i really don't want to laugh at the Joker in this movie with his antics and actions, it's been done before, I want to hate him for thinking of the world as a joke and thinking that mass murdering is a laughing matter.

I like to think Ledger is right on with the Joker's sense of humor. In that journal he was keeping he made a list of things that joker would find funny. AIDS was on there for crying out loud. it sounds like this joker is not devoid of a sense of humor, rather he just has the sickest, most demented sense of humor possible.

yes it does. That's called "love to hate that character". And nolan has achieved that in the trailer I believe.

After watching the trailer over and over and OVER again, I have come to this conclusion: despite the odd and untraditional appearance of the Joker, I am absolutely in LOVE with him in this film. Nolan and Ledger have crafted something genuinely new and exciting, and I can't wait!
Still, I hope this movie belongs to Bale. He is my favorite, after all.

It makes sense, but the problem is humor can ultimately ruin a creepy character that is given a much darker treatment. I also heard quite a few laughs during the prologue preview that I watched on Youtube.
Joker's humor seems more subtle and dry, which I feel is perfect for this particular film. When I see Joker I want to be afraid of him I want him to make kids cry and have nightmares. Although I do think he will be showcasing some interesting humor that makes him The Joker. Let's not forget about him hanging out of the window of a moving police car, making a quip to Rachel, his interaction with the bank manager, his clapping in the jail, and the way he reacts after he shoots an RPG was classic as well.

Yeah, from what weve seen so far (putting a grenade inside somebody's stomach, the bus driver scene, Rachel dawes confrontation, Nurse Joker), Heath's Joker is going to try to be funny (he's Joker after all), but we won't laugh as much as he does with his antics because he scares us more than he makes us laugh. I think that's great.

Did any of you guys notice how in the prologue the joker really isn't clown like. He speaks in a completely normal voice, even at the punch line. Yet from the trailer we can really see how this changes. It just shows that Nolan is really going for character development, the audience is going to witness how this man just keeps gettin more insane and how changes himself mentally and physically. I think that shot of him looking at the mirror laughing is really a significant scene of him embracing this.
Big contrast to Nicholson who just became crazy after bathing in acid.

That's a great observation, and true. Not a stitch of dialogue, but Heath plays that so well - he clearly has no idea how to operate the thing, nor the amount of blowback it causes (as he awkwardly recoils after he shoots it.) Instead, he's like a little kid, excited to shoot it at something without hesitation. Wonderfully played.

Yea dude during the prologue he`s tryin to keep a low profile and just fit in with the rest of the goons...He`s not going to act lyk the boss since he wants the rest of the guys to think the jokers not actually there. But if ya ask me thats still very jokerish- he`s cunning, smart, and a master of disguise just lyk batman and theres more to him than just laughing and bouncing around lyk a maniac

Just looked at the teaser again; my bad with the mirror thing. However the idea of him become more joker like as the film goes on is really appealing to me. If we get to see him go through this transformation it would be awesome. Starting to do more crazy things, his laughing going more out of control etc. Didn't Nolan say that his joker antics would become more crazy as the film develops?

No if I remember correctly he said the Joker is supposed to be the joker throughout the whole film and as for something changing throughout the film its supposed to just be his physical appearance...mainly the way his makeup starts running and him looking more and more dimented

Some Saturday morning cartoon show producer is going to see that and get the wrong idea some day...
This may be thinking ahead but does anybody else love the special features and the "background" stories of how things are created on those like two-disc 'collector's sets' of DVDs when they come out? That was the initial reason I bought the three disc set when Spider-Man 3 came out...just so I could watch a special feature about how they came up with thier version of Venom.
I hope whenever TDK comes out on DVD (by Halloween next year I bet...like BB did) we get a lot of cool features on the Joker.
I bet they would even include all the viral fun we've had...

I see the carved smile of Lee Bermejo, the subtle, more serious facial expressions of Frank Miller, and the long hair, the messy make-up(or white skin) and creepy hands of McKean.

I have to agree with that.
Except for McKean's Joker. I don't recall him really having messy hair. It looked like classic Joker hair, but just very elongated and over exagerated.
But his hands sure did scare the crap out of me.

ASBAR is pure gold in my eyes. I havent laughed so hard reading a comic, especially a caped superhero comic, in a long time.

The first time I saw Ledger was in "The Patriot," and the girl I was dating, at the time, thought he was the hottest thing on two legs, as did the other girls in the group with us.
Here's my point: Will said females even recognize Ledger, and will said females still swoon at the very sight of him.
That, ladies and gentlemen, will show true fandom.
My vote: most girls will have to be told that is Heath Ledger, unless they can read.

Yeah, I kinda agree with that. Jack's face was easily recognizable because his face was simply white and he had a smile on his face. If ledger put in white makeup and smiled, he'd be easier to recognize than having black circles around his eyes, a huge scar on his mouth, and messy white makeup.....and yellow teeth. :woot:

If ledger put in white makeup and smiled, he'd be easier to recognize than having black circles around his eyes, a huge scar on his mouth, and messy white makeup.....and yellow teeth. :woot:
Yeah, Jack's makeup was just a bigger perma-smile. Heath's covered in a mess, which a gigantic slash across his mouth and really darked eye sockets. It's hard to recognize anyone in that.

I'm saying that Ledger's unrecognizable. I'm just saying it's not because of the make-up alone. He's really transformed himself.
He did a great thing with the voice, I agree.

I don't hear the Daffy Duck.... BUT his voice is epic!
Youtube Daffy Duck and listen to his voice, then listen to Joker's voice when he's saying "evening commisioner" and all the other lines with that kind of tone. Daffy and Joker.....are united.

It's the speech impediment style in his voice that's Daffy Duck like. Like when he says commissioner, it has the 's' sound from 'Sufferin suckatash'
Alright, yeah, I can see that.
