You think that's bad, look at the Fish. They've never been able to find any QB remotely worth a **** after Marino retired. Best they had was Fiedler, and that's not saying a lot.

With the new system in place, he will be fine. No offence to Parcells and his staff, but the system was stale and predictable. There are now more bootlegs, two tightend sets, and a healthy offenseive line that should help. Not to mention a strong recieving corps and running game. Add in a more aggresive defense. The NFC East and NFC in general should look out. Romo will be great this year.

I thought it was cool that the dorm rooms and the practice field are about a mile apart. So Carl Peterson gets every guy a bicycle to ride from the dorms to the field and at the end of training camp they auction them off for charity. They showed some of they guys acting silly and they showed DeMarcus Tyler rookie tackle falling asleep during meetings. They showed the coaches getting on to the guys for not making catches and not defending against the pass during practice. Its a pretty good show.

Meh, I wouldn't be optimistic about it, Cmill. Way this regime has worked and with how he's slowly been losing his role in Gruden's offense, we won't be seeing the A-Train in the familiar red jersey again unless it's at a fundraiser or benefit. :(

I've been lucky enough to actually meet Alstott before out on the streets, and he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met.
When I've gone to training camps, ever after sweating his ass off in pads doing two-a-days in 100 degree heat with 60% + humidity, he's still always stayed around to sign autographs for every single fan there.

God bless ya, Mike, and good luck. You'll always be the unstoppable A-Train in our eyes. ALSTOTT UP THE GUT!!

Players looking forward to preseason test vs. RedskinsBy Gary GlennTitans Onlinehttp://www.titansonline.com/wpimages/Young_Vince/young_vince74.jpg
Vince Young and the Titans open the preseason against the Washington Redskins Saturday night at LP Field (7 p.m.).
NASHVILLE, TN, Aug. 8, 2007 — After an entire off-season of OTAs and two weeks of training camp, Titans players finally get a chance to compete against someone else when they host the Washington Redskins in the preseason opener for both teams Saturday at LP Field (7 p.m.).
“Going against our defense, those guys have helped us a lot, but now it’s time for us to see someone different,” said quarterback Vince Young, who earned his first regular season career victory at Washington last season. “There are some great players on Washington’s football team and I’m looking forward to matching up with them and seeing what our receivers can do.”
Head coach Jeff Fisher said he will use the preseason to help determine the starters of positions that are still open for competition.
“I think what you’ll find, even though we’re not ready to disclose specific play time, is that in the competitive positions we’ll probably start one player this week and then start the other player next week,” Fisher said. “So that kind of will be our plan in a lot of those positions.”
Titans players say Saturday’s game will tell them a lot about where the team is at two weeks into camp.
“The preseason gives us a chance to see where we are as a group, start fine-tuning our chemistry as a team and see where guys stand,” linebacker David Thornton said. “We have a lot of new guys and I want to see how they are going to contribute and fit in to help this team.”
Added linebacker Keith Bulluck: “It’s good because we get to go out there against another offense that has been working on different things that we haven’t seen yet. We’ll get to play our base defenses and see how they match up and we’ll kind of see where we are as a defense.”
Saturday will mark the first NFL game of any kind for rookie running back Chris Henry, who saw a handful of NFL stadiums during his pre-draft team visits, but never attended a game growing up.
The closest he’s been? As a collegiate player at Arizona, he played against Washington at Qwest Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks.
“I’ve never even been to an NFL football game, so it’s going to be exciting just being in the stadium and also competing on Saturday. I’m really looking forward to it,” Henry said.
Executing, minimizing mistakes and reacting instead of thinking are Henry’s primary goals Saturday night. Before then, he’ll try to remain calm as he prepares to kick off his NFL career under the lights at LP Field.
“It’s starting to settle in a little bit, but I can only imagine once it goes live on Saturday it will probably start to swirl a little bit” Henry said. “But it’s the ability to calm everything down, play at your pace and make everything come to you slowly that sets you apart from everyone else. I just have to play to the best of my ability and everything else will take care of itself.”
Young said he will focus on the game’s fundamentals during his play time, however long that may be.
“I love the work,” he said. “It’s always coach’s decision, but when it’s my time and I’m out there, I’m going to work hard and take care of my responsibilities, doing everything that coach wants me to — getting the guys in and out of the huddle, executing the play, not trying to take the big shots all the time and check it down if it’s not there. That’s the kind of game I want.”
Once he’s done for the night, Bulluck said his work still won’t be finished.
“I watch the whole game, so once I’m finished I’m on the sidelines just checking everything out,” Bulluck said. “If I can help a rookie linebacker or somebody else, I’m definitely there for that. For the most part, I’m there to try to help these guys give their best shot to make the team.”

WalkerThe Associated Presshttp://www.titansonline.com/wpimages/roos_michael/roos_michael1.jpg
Michael Roos (71) is one of several young, talented players on Tennessee's offensive line that is doing an outstanding job of protecting franchise QB Vince Young.
NASHVILLE, TN, Aug. 9, 2007 — The Tennessee Titans have a proud history of strong offensive lines, producing Hall of Famers Mike Munchak and Bruce Matthews. The current group is starting to show similar promise.
Each starter is back after allowing only 29 sacks in 2006 while ranking fifth in the NFL in rushing. There's youth, with left tackle Michael Roos and right tackle David Stewart heading into their third seasons, and experience from center Kevin Mawae (13 years) and right guard Benji Olson (nine).
Coach Jeff Fisher said this group has the potential to be among the better offensive lines in team history and will be key in Vince Young's development.
"That's one of the things that obviously we have to build the offense around and time for the quarterback to throw the ball. We have been talking a lot about the improvement at the tackles, and that is showing. I think we probably have more depth right now than we have ever had,'' Fisher said.
Last season, the Titans rushed for an average 4.7 yards per carry - highest in franchise history. Tennessee averaged 156.3 yards in its final 11 games, third in the NFL behind Jacksonville and Atlanta.
The 2,214 yards rushing was the team's best production since 1997 when the then-Tennessee Oilers had 2,414.
Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch said working against both Roos and Stewart has helped him improve his own techniques.
"Quietly, this was one of the best offensive lines in the league,'' Vanden Bosch said. "Not only a really good run blocking offensive line, but they did a good job of protecting Vince and staying on guys so Vince could scramble and make big plays downfield when he was running.''
With the line blocking for Young, the Titans wound up winning eight of their final 11 games in 2006. Young won offensive rookie honors, and he's enjoying working with the same group heading into his second season.
"You can just see the confidence level of all those guys working together, and you've got Kevin Mawae up there getting the guys straight. They're doing their jobs. They're opening holes up for the running backs and giving me time to throw the ball downfield,'' Young said.
"That's all you can ask for - and take the guys out to eat.''
The line came together early in 2006 after veteran left guard Zach Piller suffered a season-ending ankle injury. That forced Jacob Bell into his spot with Stewart taking over at right tackle, and each stayed in those jobs for the rest of 2006.
Of the younger players, Stewart is the least experienced. A fourth-round draft pick in 2005 out of Mississippi State, the 6-foot-7, 318-pound lineman nicknamed "Big Country'' who hadn't played a single snap as a rookie claimed the right tackle job.
Not a big talker, Stewart said working with Olson helped.
"I'm a little more settled than I was last year. Getting thrown into it last year was kind of nerve-racking, but there's still a little nervousness. I guess it'll always be there,'' Stewart said.
Roos is a good bookend, standing 6-7 himself and 315 pounds. A second-round draft pick in 2005, he quietly has started all 32 games, flipping over last year from right tackle to left to replace Brad Hopkins following his retirement.
"It's a little strange because I feel like I just got here,'' Roos said.
Depth shouldn't be a problem either. Daniel Loper, Seth Wand, Justin Geisinger and Eugene Amano all played some last year, and Marques Ogden, younger brother of Pro Bowl tackle Jonathan Ogden, is among the younger players trying to make an impression.
But the starters hope to pick up offensively where they left off in 2006 with Travis Henry now running in Denver and Chris Brown and LenDale White fighting to replace him as the starter. Protecting Young also remains the top priority.
"As long as we can stay healthy, we'll work together and accomplish the goals we want to achieve together,'' Mawae said.

Is Priest seriously coming back? How healthy is he? Not that it matters since the Chiefs will be in third place this year...
He is supposed to be really healthy.

Chiefs say Holmes, back on field, won't be featured back

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Kansas City Chiefs (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=kan) running back Priest Holmes (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4047) has a message for holdout All-Pro Larry Johnson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6363): If you don't want the job, I'll take it.
Holmes, a three-time Pro Bowler, turns 34 in October and has been out of football since 2005 after suffering what many figured was a career-ending injury. The Chiefs are not planning on him being anything more than a situational back, if he returns to the field at all.
But he created a stir in July with his surprise return and said this week his comeback attempt is going well as he works himself back into game shape.
He's still on the physically unable to perform list while veteran Michael Bennett (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5474) and rookie Kolby Smith (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=8402) take most of the snaps at running back. But on Tuesday, he was on the practice field in pads, taking handoffs and absorbing hits from assistant coaches using blocking pads.
Afterward, he said he's ready to fill the 27-year-old Johnson's shoes -- at least financially.
"Somebody has to get the money," he said. "Hey, if L.J. wants to leave the money out there, guess I'm going to take it. If he wants to come get it, it's rightfully his to take. He's earned it. But if he chooses not to come back, well, somebody has to take it. Why won't it be me?"
Johnson has been a no-show at camp as he seeks an extension to the seven-year contract he inked in 2003, which he can void down to a five-year deal after the final game of the 2007 season because of playing time incentives.
Both head coach Herm Edwards and Chiefs president Carl Peterson have said Holmes will not be their feature back.
"If he's able to come back, he understands and accepts the fact that he would have a different role than when he was the starter," Edwards said.
Johnson is demanding compensation in the range of $28 million guaranteed, insisting he be paid as much as league MVP LaDainian Tomlinson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5452). Johnson is scheduled to earn $1.7 million this season and is being fined more than $14,000 for every day he misses.
One of the NFL's top runners until his injury, Holmes rushed for a team-record 5,933 yards after signing as an unrestricted free agent in 2001. He scored 27 touchdowns in 2003, then an NFL record.
He's been on the physically unable to perform list since a devastating tackle by San Diego's Shawne Merriman (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7188) on Oct. 30, 2005, left him with head and neck trauma. After extensive tests, doctors warned of a possibility of further injury, perhaps even paralysis -- a danger that may still lurk.
"This is about perseverance and having a great story to tell," Holmes said. "I think that all the valuable years I've put into my tank, there's a lot in me still."
Some were dubious about Holmes' motives for returning, especially in light of Johnson's holdout.
"'Dubious' is a great word," Holmes said. "But dedication is a little bit more defined in concrete. I mean, we have what's called 'making it rain.' We have the dogfighting, we have so many things that have cast a negative light on the NFL. This is just a great story to show guys that regardless of what situation you're in, you can persevere."
Holmes, who received a clean bill of health from Kansas City's doctors before reporting to camp, last played a full season in 2003. He played in eight games in 2004 before a hip injury and then played in seven games in 2005 before the helmet-to-helmet hit from Merriman.
Holmes said seeing highlights of himself this summer during a football camp made him start thinking about returning to the Chiefs.
"Once I saw myself, the first thing I looked at it was as if I was a fan," he said. "I said, 'Man, I did that? Oh, that's a nice run. Oh, I love that touchdown move right there. I got to do that again.'
"I haven't had any setbacks so far," he added. "The biggest thing with football is taking all the contact and then continuing to run."
Chiefs guard Brian Waters (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5349), an eight-year veteran and a good friend of Holmes, said players are keeping an eye on the running back's progress.
"We know just by watching him run, he's still got a lot of his abilities," Waters said. "His quickness is strong. It's going to be a mental thing, for sure, but we'll see. I've seen him come back from serious injuries before and have a great season, so nothing would surprise me coming from that man."

It's "pre-season".

What did you think of Josh Betts at QB??? Man...he looked a lot better than Sorgi.

Last year I thought they should have kept Shaun King. He played much better than Sorgi. But Polian kept Sorgi. Pissed me off. :cmad: Is there a real competition for the #2 spot or will they go back to Sorgi no matter how well Betts does??

Yea the rookie. I've always thought Jim Sorgi's job should have went to someone else. Remember last pre-season when he got hit and injured:whatever: he got hit square all right, but his arms just flailed and he gave up the ball, and he has never shown the fortitude to be the Backup for a deep playoff team.

I had to work, so I kept up w/ the fox sports ticker. Betts looks great!! He's young. 6'2, 2 hundred and some change. Yea, make him the backup. Please don't get me started on Shaun. I've always thought of the brotha backs he was one of the better ones. Your probably right about Pollian lettin him go over Dungy, but I had thought ever since we got Tony from the Bucs, we'd have more of his guys wanting to play for the Colts. Simeon goes to the Titans, we got McFarland, but I'm still hoping for D. Brooks.

My biggest question was were was #87, I didn't see much of the game, but did he suit up, I know he's been full time in Rose Hulman-I hope he's not nursing an injury.

This is true. When you're team is mediocre and trying to return to glory the preseason is more important to you due to that a lot of the unknown talent that will be playing in the games stand a good chance of shaping your team in the regular season.

Take my beloved Bucs for instance...

Other than Galloway, there's nobody at receiver to really put opposite him. Maurice Stovall has looked superb in camp, but that's not a game situation. It will be interesting to see how his does against the first and second team defenses of the Pats tonight. Then you factor in the guys behind him fighting for the #2 and #3 receiver spots, David Boston, Michael Clayton, and Ike Hilliard.

Then there's the QB position. Garcia's the starter, that much is clear, but what happens if he were to, God forbid, get hurt? Who would take his place? The backup QB is arguably the most important reserve position in sports, and it will be interesting to see how McCown, the current #2, does in a game situation after not having played for a year. Then you have Gradkowski who is looking to improve on last season's mediocre performance, and Chris Simms waiting in the wings.

Defensive line is another spot that will be good to watch tonight. The Bucs have not had a skilled under tackle since losing Sapp, and currently there's the unproven Haye as the starter there. Then there's the #1 draft pick Gaines Adams filling in for recently departed Rice. Will the rook be able to fill the void left by one of the games greatest sack artists? Will he be able to play the run better than Simeon did?
Then there's the enigma of Kevin Carter, the old, but still talented vet. Where will he end up? There's been talks of him taking Spires' place at left end, but there's also a strong chance he'll be competing at the under tackle spot.
Throw in the other changes on defense, such as Rudd finally getting a shot to run the defense and the two you safties they drafted in Sabby Piscitelli and Tanard Jackson, both are pushing Phillips and Allen for the starting roles, and it will be a good game to watch on the defensive side of things.

There are other areas too, such as the O-line and tight end that have some intense battles that will make this game interesting to watch as well.

But, my point of this semi-rant is that although, as you say, the preseason does mean nothing when it comes to the records and how a team will ultimately look, they're definitely not unimportant games as they can have a strong impact on the face of a team that's trying to get out of the cellar.

Boston is really the one to watch. Talent-wise he's the best receiver we have in terms of his combination of size and speed. I mean, if the dude is 75% of the guy he was when he made the Pro Bowl we're gonna have a heck of a number 2 guy.

I've pretty much lost all faith in Clayton. I really have. Stovall (who'll start tonight) has serious potential. It'll be interesting to see how he performs as the starting flanker in these next few games.

You see all that uncertainty behind Garcia? THAT'S why Gruden has been so adamant in getting Jake Plummer to come out of retirement. If Luke McCown is as solid as he's been in camp, he'll be a #2 good option considering he does have some experience. And while I don't want to write off Simms just yet, I have a funny feeling he may not be with the team come September.

Defensive line is another spot that will be good to watch tonight. The Bucs have not had a skilled under tackle since losing Sapp, and currently there's the unproven Haye as the starter there. D's gonna be interesting to watch in the preseason. A lot of youth as you stated. A lot of these guys (Adams, Piscitelli, Black) are gonna be the future faces of this defense, and more than likely they'll be needed to contribute this season. I'm also excited for (and surprised you didn't mention ;)) Cato June. He could be a big lift for this team.

There are other areas too, such as the O-line and tight end that have some intense battles that will make this game interesting to watch as well.

Petitgout's back has me extremely concerned, but this O-Line HAS to be better than it was last season. Joseph and Trueblood should start coming into their own.

The TE situation might be one of the best situations on the team. Alex Smith has all the skills to be a Pro Bowl TE. I really believe that. Becht's an adept blocker, and Stevens (if he makes the team) gives us great athleticism and depth at the position.

Yeah, I've pretty much given up on Clayton too. Not to mention the fact that I don't like him (******* skipped right over me at training camp last year when he was giving out autographs just because I had an old school Bucs pennant :cmad: ).
Boston is somebody I'm really intrigued with. As you say, he's definitely got the talent, but he just needs to get his head in the right place and get used to the contact again. From what I've read, he's really doing good in camp, but we'll see how he reacts in a game situation.

I don't think Simms will be around either. I think he'll be cut and sign on with the Dirty Birds. And honestly...I could care less. I kind of feel bad about his injury, but I don't like him. Last year and camp, there was a decent crowd waiting for autographs after the morning workout. I was by the gate and there was a group of little kids to my left, some with Simms jerseys. He comes walking towards the locker room entrance and makes his way towards the gate like he's going to sign autographs. Everybody's all happy that Simms is going to sign some stuff for them, when he abruptly turns around, waves, and walks into the locker room.
I'm not BSing either. ****er actually did that. I could care less about being dissed by some pretty boy, but to act that way to the younger fans is BS :cmad:. After that I jokingly put a hex on him, wishing him injury, and he goes and gets hurt in the 3rd game of the season.
My friends and I had a big laugh about that. All I can say is karma's a *****. :o

That's right, I forgot to mention Cato. I know the big Q on him was if he could be physical enough to stop the run when it's coming right at him, and reports from camp are saying he's really stepped it and impressed the vets such as Brooks and Barber with his play. Going to fun to watch him tonight.

Petitgout's back has me extremely concerned, but this O-Line HAS to be better than it was last season. Joseph and Trueblood should start coming into their own.
I'm really worried about that too. If he goes down, we've got Anthony Davis to take his place. If that happens I feel so sorry for Garcia. :(
On the plus side, Arron Sears has looked amazingly good in camp and could really become a fixture at the LG spot for long time. And the right side tandem of Trueblood and Joseph have really made great strides in their second year.

The TE situation might be one of the best situations on the team. Alex Smith has all the skills to be a Pro Bowl TE. I really believe that. Becht's an adept blocker, and Stevens (if he makes the team) gives us great athleticism and depth at the position.

I agree about Smith. I think he's been under-utilized the past few seasons. He's definitely the best receiving tight end we've had in a long time with the way he attacks the ball. If he can just step up his blocking skills he could be a good one.

Caddy's supposedly in much better shape than he was last season as well. And with an improved O-line and a more respected QB to take the pressure off of him, he could actually reach his goal of 1,500 yards rushing this year. Course he's still got to prove he can stay healthy for an entire season, but the goal is definitely attainable.

Probably another reason why I'm still optimistic about things as I grew up with the losing seasons. All you could do then was hope for a better tomorrow. :o :(

As for Garcia I have a lot of confidence in him. He's proven to be a good QB in a WC system, and he's definitely the experienced QB we've lacked since Brad Johnson left. Nothing against Brad as I love the guy (he helped get us our first ring after all), but he was about as mobile slug. Garcia will definitely add some definite mobility to go along with experience factor.

And with Petigout (sp?) hurting and pretty much having me worried as all hell that he will miss some serious time, he'll need that scrambling ability since Anthony Davis is a mediocre LT. :o

Another thing about Garcia coming to Tampa Bay I think is weird is that the whole situation reminds me of when Gannon left KC to go to Oakland.
He was a backup with the Chiefs and was thrust into the starting role around mid-season and performed well, but KC still let him go in the offseason. He signed with Oakland and the rest is history.
Only difference I see between the two is that Gannon had a stronger arm then Garcia does.

Wait, aren't the Patriots playing tonight? I think that is automatically the top game by default.

Since they're playing the Bucs I have to concur. Best. Game. Tonight.

Really? Gannon really didn't have much of an arm during his high points in Oakland. Garcia doesn't have a cannon either, but I think he puts a bit more zip on the ball than Gannon did.

Is Priest seriously coming back? How healthy is he? Not that it matters since the Chiefs will be in third place this year...

They were supposed to be third last year, and they managed to squeak into the playoffs. I'm cautiously optimistic right now, with plenty of depth at RB if LJ keeps holding out, plus Huard is, let's face it, more likely to get the starting QB job. Edwards will realize during the preseason that he's the one who fits the system better. And of course, there's the rising defense. New DTs, Jarrad Page as a starter, and of course, DONNIE!

Matt Cassel looked really good for the Pats. I didn't know he was as mobile as he is (had a 15 yard run on 3rd and 16 that set up an eventual 4th down conversion).

The 1st unit Bucs offense was meh, but Luke McCown looked terrific. Running game was strong, defense was solid, and Gaines Adams made a few notable plays (including a batted ball on 3rd down against Brady).

I have slightly higher hopes this year for the Rams. Linehan is the ideal coach for them. More of running the ball, more of a mixture than what Martz was using with Bulger/running backs. I think they're a dark horse to win the NFC.

It was a good game, the Bucs and Pats. The starting O-line did an good job run blocking for Caddy I thought, but their pass protection was...meh. Course the starting LT was out, which played a factor in that.

Gaines Adams looked good when he was in. He's still a bit raw, which is understandable, but he did make a couple nice plays and did a decent job against the run. Would like to see him get more action with the first team next game though.

I thought Caddy and the rest of the backs looked good out there. Darby in particular showed a real good first burst when he hit the hole.

McCown looked pretty sharp when he came in and showed why he is the first backup to Garcia, who struggled a bit.

As for the Pats, other than Cassel, I thought Faulk did a good job with the first team in place of Maroney.

Stovall had a grab or two, got a first down or so. Nothing spectacular. Solid.

He made a few awesome blocks downfield when he was in too. He's seems to be the best blocking receiver we've had since Meshawn left.

Why are folks so damn down on C. Simms. I like him, he played last year w/ half of his stomach filling w/ blood. And now folk just wan't to let him go.

It might have to do with the fact that even before he hurt the spleen he was playing god awful (1 TD, 7 INTs). I thought he was fantastic in 2005 (especially in close games against Atlanta twice and Washington) but something was clearly off in 2006. Maybe it was the lack of a veteran presence like Griese, or maybe it was the banged up O-line, but he simply wasn't the same. And now his mechanics are completely off because he hasn't played in so long, and there's the possiblity that the scarring from the surgery is effecting his throwing motion.

The dude is young. He should be focusing on improving his ability to read and key defenders. Now he's having to work on simply throwing a clean pass? Yikes.

Ehhh, I wouldn't count out the Bears on that one. Their defense alone has more stars than the entire Cowboys team does. Briggs, Urlacher, Mike Brown, Tommie Harris, Vasher, Tillman, Ogunleye and they added Archuleta. Offensively I don't know what to expect from Grossman. But other than him you have a very talented but aging O-line, practically all of them are Pro Bowlers with Kreutz being the best center in the NFL. I'd put Romo and Grossman in the same boat right now. Both are QBs with something to prove. Benson is good. Believe me if he can stay healthy, Benson will be good. He just runs over people, not around them. The only person in the Bears' receiving core that would probably show any age is Muhammed. Another young WR the Bears have that didn't play much due to injury last year was Mark Bradley. I have seen this guy play before and probably the best comparison is that he is another Bernard Berrian. Mix in Devin Hester to that and you have maybe the fastest 3 wide outs on any one team in the NFC at least. I have to disagree with the Cowboys having the best overall talent. There are just too many players on the Bears where in a good amount of the positions they have the best or one of the best players playing.

Okay when Romo was bad he wasn't Grossman bad... lets not forget the fact that Grossman padded those numbers against some *****ty ass teams the Bears played... I already said I don't think the Cowboys are better than the Bears talent wise defensively... but the Bears offense is going to sputter as long as Grossman stinks it up... and I don't know about you... but I am taking T.O, Terry Glenn, and Crayton over those top three receivers... I am taking Jones and Barber over Benson and Peterson... and I think the Cowboys improved their interior O-line with Leonard Davis. If they are healthy the sky is the limit.

Jerry!
08-12-2007, 05:55 PM
The key to the Bears offense is Benson. If he is good, I'm not worried about Grossman as much. As long they can run it, I'm not worried about Grossman's performance because as much as people want to dump on him, it was only his first full year as a starter. I wouldn't take T.O. at all, its just not worth it with him in the end. And if Hester has picked up the offense as good as the coaches say he has, then he only spreads the field more. The Bears' offensive line is great as its proven the past few years, and now, finally, they have good tight ends. And I think Peterson is going to surprise a lot of people. Except Bears fans, we've known he could play since he got here a few years ago. It seemed every time he was given the ball he would get a good 5-6 yards its just we already had Thomas Jones and Benson. The Bears have more of a complete package than the Cowboys do.

Officially Vince Young violated curfew where he stayed out at his house and not the hotel where the team is staying during their trainning camp and Preseason. To show the rules apply to everyone no matter who you are on the team Jeff Fisher has Vince Young staying out of practice and had to sit out the Titans Redskins game. He will be returning Friday August 17 when the Titans take on the Pats in the second game of their preseason.

Sounds like real team leader material, hope he isn't late to the first game.

I feel bad for him, he misses a game and then has to face the Patriots defense.

Sorry to jump in here

Peterson is great. He's done everything the Bears have asked him to do. On special teams he's everywhere. How many times last year was Petersons name called as "Tackled by." I hope he gets more playing time.

The only thing the worries me is the age of the O line. If they stay healthy Grossman should have a real good year. That is if he does revert to Bad-Rex. :cwink:

Eight-Time Pro Bowl Selection Harrison Says There’s No Reason Not to Play
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The thing about discussing career longevity with Marvin Harrison is he really has few thoughts on the topic.

He’s too busy doing what he always has done.
That’s practicing and working to improve, and it’s playing wide receiver at a higher level than nearly anyone who ever has played. For the eight-time Pro Bowl selection, it’s not about talking.
And it’s certainly not about predicting the future.
Yes, he will turn 35 later this month.
Yes, he is in his 12th NFL season.
And yes, he is approaching statistical milestones approached and reached only by the NFL’s elite all-time receivers.
But, no, Harrison said, he doesn’t think about retirement, or how many years he may or may not have remaining in what likely is a Hall-of-Fame career.
And further, he hasn’t even really thought about thinking it.
“I don’t look forward to the end,” Harrison said Monday between Colts 2007 Training Camp practices at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
“It’s foolish. I have no reason to not play. Nothing is saying, ‘You’ve got one year or you’ve got two years.’ There’s nothing that tells me that. I don’t even think about it.
“I can’t give you the answer, because I don’t think about it.”
Harrison, a Pro Bowl selection each of the last eight seasons, has little reason to think of the end. He is an elite receiver in his prime, and over the last eight seasons, he has been the NFL’s most consistently productive player at his position.
One of the most remarkable aspects about Harrison, Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy said, is that six years after Dungy’s 2002 arrival – the year Harrison set an NFL record for single-season receptions – there’s no difference in how Harrison approaches games, practices . . . anything.
“It’s pretty remarkable considering that Marv was, I think, 29 when I came here,” Dungy said. “He’s really stayed kind of in that prime physical condition. Ninety catches, 15 touchdowns – that’s what you kind of chalk up every year and he’s been able to do it.
“That’s kind of amazing, to keep putting up those steady type numbers.”
In his eight Pro Bowl seasons, Harrison – the Colts’ first-round selection in the 1996 NFL Draft – has caught at least 82 passes for at least 1,113 yards and 10 touchdowns, and his lists of records, first and accomplishments is mind-numbing:
• An NFL-record 143 receptions in 2002.
• An NFL-record eight consecutive seasons with 10 or more touchdowns receiving. That streak is ongoing.
• An NFL record streak of 170 consecutive games at the start of a career with at least one reception. That streak also is ongoing.
• A fourth-place ranking on the NFL’s all-time receptions list.
• A third-place ranking on the NFL’s all-time touchdown receptions list.
• An eighth-place ranking on the NFL’s all-time touchdowns list.
• An NFL-record four consecutive 100-yard reception seasons.
Harrison, who played collegiately at Syracuse University, will enter his 12th NFL season with 1,022 receptions for 13,697 yards and 122 receptions. He is 72 receptions behind Tim Brown and 79 behind Cris Carter, the third and second players on the NFL’s all-time receptions list, respectively.
“I just play,” Harrison said. “Each and every snap has its own scenario. That’s for you guys to tell the world, but for me, personally, I just go out and play the best I can play.”
Jerry Rice holds all three major career receptions records with 1,549 receptions for 22,895 yards and 197 touchdowns.
Harrison currently trails only Rice and Carter on the touchdowns list. Carter caught 130 touchdowns.
He trails only Rice, Brown (14,934), James Lofton (14,004), Carter (13,899) and Henry Ellard (13,777) on the all-time receiving yardage list.
If Harrison matches his 2006 statistics – 95 receptions for 1,366 yards and 12 touchdowns – he will move into second place all-time in all three categories.
And if that would happen?
“I just look forward to the following year again,” Harrison said with a shrug.
Harrison, asked Monday if anything had changed from his rookie season, shook his head.
“The only difference is I know the offense more,” Harrison said. “As far as the approach, the hunger, the waiting to go out and be the best, nothing’s changed.”
As far as his longevity, and his durability, Harrison said, too, there’s no real secret. He is small by NFL standards for a wide receiver – 6-feet-0, 185 pounds – and in 11 seasons, he has missed five games because of injuries, including four at the end of 1998, his third season.
“I’m not even a guy who’s big into a lot of extra stuff with my body and all that,” Harrison said. “I just go out there and play. . . .
“I just warm up. In the off-season, I work out. I do the same thing I’ve always done, all my life, but nothing extra. When do work out, it’s nothing extra . . . I don’t know – a will to work, to be good, to be great.”
That, Harrison said, is his focus during training camp. Colts quarterback Peyton Manning often has said he is rarely amazed by Harrison during games because he has sees him spectacularly perform each day in practice. Teammates often talk of Harrison’s work ethic, and his high-level of effort and energy in practice.
“I just go out and be competitive,” Harrison said. “Practice is where it all starts for me – just being competitive. We have a lot of young defensive backs here. I have to go out here and do what I know I can do, which is not only going to help them, it’s going to help me in turn. Every year, I go up against a different defensive back. Over the course of years, you can count them all that have been here. I give them 100 percent each and every practice.
“They line up and they know I’m going to give them everything I’ve got. They know as the season goes on they’re going to be a lot more comfortable during games, a lot more comfortable in practice. I can’t give them anything but full speed.”
Harrison on Monday spoke with several reporters shortly after the Colts’ morning practice. He was, as his typical, brief and polite with his answers, and generally hesitant to say much about himself or his feelings on things such as records and milestones.
But when told of Dungy’s comments, that he seemed very much the same players now as he had in 2002, Harrison said, “It’s definitely a great compliment.” “I think it’s appropriate,” Harrison said, “because I don’t feel any different than when I started with Tony or with (1998-2001 Colts Head Coach) Jim Mora to today’s practice. I go out, do what I do, do it to the best of my ability and catch the ball, get ready for another one. It’s routine right now.”

FOCUS ON FUNDAMENTALS
http://www.colts.com/images/news_photos/feature/2007_TC_camping_8.jpg By John Oehser - Colts.com

Colts Will Concentrate on Themselves in Final Week of Camp, Dungy Say
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The goal for the final week of Colts Training Camp 2007 is clear.

It's also the same as it was this past week.
And the week before.
Yes, the Colts will train late in the week with an eye on preparing for the Chicago Bears, and with an eye on winning a preseason game, but mostly the third – and final week – of Training Camp 2007 will be about focusing on themselves.
That week begins Monday.
And there will be a heavy emphasis – again – on fundamentals, Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy said.
“The first two weeks (of camp) are really tough,” Dungy said Saturday following the first of two practices at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
“This week will be a fun week from a coaching standpoint. The first part of the week, we won’t worry about the Bears. It really is an extension of training camp – fundamental things, defenses we have to get in, short yardage, goal-line offense and defense . . .
“At the end of the week, we’ll start thinking about the Bears, but it’s going to be a good four or five days to get better, I think.”
The Colts, who lost 23-10 to the Dallas Cowboys in Texas Stadium in their 2007 preseason opener on Thursday, returned to practice Saturday. They had a shortened practice at 11 a.m. and a special teams practice at 3:30 p.m.
They will meet Sunday, with the next practices scheduled Monday at 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
They will play host to the Bears, the team they beat in the Super Bowl following last season, on Monday, August 20, in the RCA Dome.
“We’ll see if we can use the first part of this week in fundamentals and try to improve on some of the things we’re lacking a little bit in the game,” Dungy said Saturday.
What Dungy said the Colts won’t likely do is alter the schedule in the final week significantly.
The temperatures in Terre Haute throughout camp have reached the mid 90s, and are expected to be in the 90s again this week.
“We may cut back and have some longer water breaks and less practice,” Dungy said. “We may go with a no pads day rather than full pads. We’ll look at it that way. I don’t think we’ll change what time we’ll do things.”
Also Saturday, defensive end Robert Mathis, linebacker Clint Session and linebacker Keith O’Neil returned to practice. All three missed the Dallas game with injuries, and O’Neil missed the first two weeks of camp.
The Colts sustained no major injuries against the Cowboys, Dungy said.
“I think we came out of it OK – not many trauma injures,” Dungy said. “We’ve got some muscle strains and things, guys who are going to have to rest. But I don’t think we have anybody we’re going to lose for a big amount of time.”
Dungy said he expects several more players to return early next week.
Despite the 13-point loss to the Cowboys, Dungy said after reviewing the game tape on Friday there were several positive aspects, including the play of backup running back DeDe Dorsey.
Dorsey, a second-year veteran, rushed for 15 yards on six carries and caught a four-yard pass.
“His second stint in there was better than the first one,” Dungy said. “I thought he relaxed and kind of calmed down a little bit. All in all, I thought he and (rookie running back) Clifton (Dawson) did a good job.”
The Colts’ starting cornerbacks, Marlin Jackson and Kelvin Hayden, “played very fast and physical,” Dungy said. Dungy also wondered about a first-quarter holding penalty on Hayden while covering Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens.
“I’m just not sure officials are used to seeing him getting jammed up like that,” Dungy said. “I think the guy assumed that since Terrell Owens couldn’t get off the line of scrimmage, it must be holding. They did a good job and really played fast and tackled well.”
The loss to the Cowboys was the ninth in 10 preseason games since the 2005 season, a trend Dungy said is “not something that’s by design.”
“I hadn’t noticed it until I saw it in the paper, and then I started thinking back it has been a while since we won them,” Dungy said. “We stress winning and we want to win. We haven’t gotten the job done as well as we’d like. The next two weeks will be important for us. We want to get better and play and win. Fortunately, it hasn’t carried over to the regular season.
“You want to win these games. You feel as a coach that your second unit is going to play a lot, but you still want to coach those guys up and get ready. I just don’t think you take anything away by losing, by the same token, we’re not going to play our starters longer to try to win or anything like that. “It’s just a matter of we just have to play better and eliminate some of those mistakes.”
