Looks like he'll be done. Plus, I heard that if he didn't plead now, more charges, supposedly including gambling/racketeering would have been brought out. If that had happen, he definitely would have been finished.
Well the max he was facing was 5 I believe the other charges would have brought it up to 25 I think

18-36 months was the original offer on the table from the prosecutors, but Vick's management was pushing for less. It will be interesting to see what they finally agreed upon. I wish they would have buried him with the pending additional charges instead. I hope the NFL stays true to their word and issues a lifetime ban against him for personal misconduct. What a jackass.

Whatever happens, happens. But you'll be hard pressed to find a lot of people wringing their hands in worry about Atlanta's season. More often than not people in this state generally don't care what the Falcons do or don't. Not to say they don't have fans, but around these parts, college ball means more to folks than the NFL ever will. Fact.

The NFL released a statement regarding Michael Vick and his impending guilty plea on Monday afternoon.
"We are aware of Michael Vick's decision to enter a guilty plea to the federal charges against him and accept responsibility for his conduct," the statement reads. "We totally condemn the conduct outlined in the charges, which is inconsistent with what Michael Vick previously told both our office and the Falcons. We will conclude our own review under the league’s personal conduct policy as soon as possible. In the meantime, we have asked the Falcons to continue to refrain from taking action pending a decision by the commissioner."

Totally agree. I think things are going to go differently for Vick with Gooddell around. Especially since he flat out lied to Gooddell and the rest of the commission, which probably has them all kinds of pissed off at Vick. And rightfully so.

I'm not so sure about that. Mort's kind of operating off of how things were before Gooddell came into the picture with that guess. Things are a lot different now with him running the show. He's really trying to clean up the league.

Regarding Goodell, I look at it like this:
If he could give Pacman Jones a year suspension for just being involved in random s*** (no convictions), what do you think he'll do with a guy who has completely stained an organization, murdered innocent animals, lied to the entire league, and is likely headed for a year-plus prison sentence?

Garret Wolfe is 5' nothing. Looks like a little kid running around out there. Game is ongoing, Bears winning 27-17 in the 4th. Rex looked good early on, but then did his classic at the line fumble a few times and threw an INT. Starting defense looked alright. Griese looked good and so is Orton, but I want to see Leak get some playing time.

No I mean Orton, I think he'll pass (no oun) Griese and become #2. I don't think Leak got any reps. All panic stricken Bears fans craziness aside
Grossman actually threw the ball well against the Colts, he was 9 of 11 for 59 yards

I don't think thats fair to Griese, he has played well in preseason and has the experience, plus the Bears are paying him quite a bit, so he better get the first look before Orton does. I hope it never has to come to that though. If Grossman can just nail some of these basic fundamentals down I wouldn't be half as worried.

Kansas City RB Larry Johnson signs 6-year contract extension, shows up at Chiefs camp
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kansas City running back Larry Johnson agreed to a six-year contract extension and joined the Chiefs for practice Tuesday, after having been absent from training camp since it opened July 27.
"It was a long, hard negotiation," general manager Carl Peterson said. "We are very happy to have all our children in camp now."
Johnson was in uniform, taking a swing pass from quarterback Brodie Croyle.
Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said Johnson will speak to the media Wednesday.
Johnson has broken the Chiefs' single-season rushing record in each of the past two seasons. He ran for 1,789 yards last year and set an NFL record with 416 carries.
During his holdout, the team fined him more than $19,000 per day.

Rams Too Embarrassed To Express Interest In Simeon Rice: 'What If He Doesn't Like Us?'
ST. LOUIS, MO—Fearing that free-agent defensive end Simeon Rice would not like their team because the facilities "aren't nice enough," the "stupid old stadium is too small," and that their "dumb team uniforms look stupid," the St. Louis Rams found themselves too embarrassed to express interest in the three-time Pro-Bowler, sources close to the team reported Friday. "Just look at Simeon—he's such a great player," said Rams' GM Charley Armey, squirming in his chair as he watched tape of Rice, who is second in sacks among active players and considered quite a catch. "I don't even know what I would say to him. What if he thinks we're lame because all the other teams have more money and a later curfew?" Armey claims the team is feeling shy and vulnerable after losing several key free agents during the offseason, and that they have never felt as attractive to popular players as the other "more glamorous" teams in the NFC West

:wow: Eli Manning fires barbs at ex-teammate
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Tiki Barber wanted a more intense, fiery Eli Manning. The New York Giants quarterback gave Tiki what he wanted in a loud ripping voice on Tuesday.

Two days after being criticized on national television by Barber for a lack of strong leadership, Manning ripped his former teammate and current NBC football analyst for distracting the team last season with his early retirement announcement and his criticism of coach Tom Coughlin.
"I guess I'm just happy for Tiki that he's making a smooth transition into the TV world," Manning said. "You know, I'll be interested to see if he has anything to say (about a team) besides the Giants, and what his comments will be on that."
Normally reserved and never one to criticize a coach or teammate, Manning seemed to enjoy going after Barber, the Giants' all-time leading rusher who retired after last season at age 31 to pursue a television career.
Speaking during the halftime show of the Sunday Night Football game between the Giants and Baltimore Ravens, Barber had said that Manning's attempt to lead an offensive meeting in the 12th week of the last season was "comical" at times.
Manning didn't find the comment funny.
"It's just one of those deals. I'm not going to lose any sleep about what Tiki has to say," Manning said. "I guess I could have questioned his leadership skills last year with calling out the coach and having articles about him retiring in the middle of the season, and he's lost the heart (to play).
"As a quarterback you're reading that your running back has lost the heart to play the game and it's about the 10th week," Manning said. "I can see that a little bit at times. But I'm not going to get concerned. I'm going to go out there and play ball."
Speaking on his radio show "The Barber Shop" on Sirius NFL Radio, Barber said he was glad that Manning stuck up for himself, even though he felt his comments were tame and honest.
"Ill tell you this," Barber said. "It was not said maliciously."
Giants teammates came to Manning's defense on Tuesday.
Wide receiver Amani Toomer, who played his entire career with Barber, was stunned.
"I thought Tiki and Eli were pretty good friends," Toomer said. "It's kind of strange to have him say something like that and to make a point of it like that. Maybe he had somebody else in his ear kind of coaxing him into saying stuff, because I don't believe he really believes that. I don't know why he'd say something like that."
Manning's father, Archie, said at a charity bowling event in Indianapolis for his other son, Super Bowl MVP Peyton, that he had not counseled the Giants quarterback on how to handle the situation.
"He talked to me a while ago and said Tiki got after him a little bit the other night, and he said it's not a big deal," Archie Manning said. "He told me a whole lot of people in the Giants organization were proud of what he said.
"Eli's not a controversial guy and he's not going to be. I feel like if Eli did something like that, it would come from his heart."
Center Shaun O'Hara said that Manning is progressing as a leader, especially for a fourth-year player.
"I don't have any problems with Eli's leadership and the way he does it," O'Hara said. "He's doing it his way. I think players appreciate that. It's a shame everybody wants Eli to be somebody they think he should be instead of just letting him be himself."
O'Hara noted that Manning might be under the microscope more than most young quarterbacks because he is the brother of Peyton Manning.
"For me, you can be Johnny Rah-Rah, but if you're not doing your job, if you're not pulling your weight, it doesn't matter what you say," O'Hara said. "Being loud, that doesn't make you a great leader."
Tackle David Diehl said Manning showed his leadership Sunday night, getting the offense lined up right when the Ravens threw a couple of new looks at them on defense.
Giants new quarterback coach Chris Palmer added that Manning does everything a coach wants.
"Everybody leads in a different way," Palmer said. "If you buy any business books, there are 101 ways to lead. He'll lead in his own particular fashion."
While Barber praised Manning at times for his play, he also questioned whether he could be a leader of men and make plays when the chips were down.
"His personality hasn't been so that he can step up, make a strong statement and have people believe that it's coming from his heart," Barber said on the show.
Barber then told the story about Manning being uncomfortable talking to the offense in Week 12.
"He didn't feel like his voice was going to be strong enough and it showed," Barber said. "Sometimes it was almost comical the way that he would say things."
While Barber rushed for 1,662 yards last season, the second highest single-season total in Giants history, he also was a distraction in an 8-8 season that saw the Giants make the playoffs.
He went on record in early October saying that the 2006 season would probably be his last. He also created problems for Coughlin when he criticized him for pulling away from the running game too soon in a loss to Jacksonville in November.
It was the second time he went after his head coach.
After a playoff loss to Carolina in 2005, Barber said Coughlin was outcoached by Panther coach John Fox, a former Giants assistant.
While Coughlin refused to get involved in the controversy, he was happy Manning defended himself.
"Well, he thought about what he was going to do, and he decided he would say exactly what he felt," Coughlin said. "More power to him."
Memphis Slim
08-22-2007, 07:53 AM
I think there was some truth to what Barber said. But I don't think he should have said it in public.
And Barber's retirement announcement was not a distraction for the team faltering....that's a lame excuse. Bettis talked about retirement in Pittsburgh....they go on to win the Super Bowl. And Barber rushed for over 1600 yards?? Tell me he didn't have his heart in it. He gave his all.
Eli's got some work to do. Maybe that stinging critique is what he needed to wake him up.

"More power to him."
damn i wouldve posted that yesterday but i thogut it already had been hmmm oh well
I think there was some truth to what Barber said.
Maybe that stinging critique is what he needed to wake him up.
no barber shouldnt have annouced that in the middle of the season. either beggining or end. and he did say mid season last year that he lost his passion for the game, come on with all the problems the giants were having, he shouldnt have said something like that. but i will say he was a amazing player. funny he mightve been able to get 2000 rushing yards last year, but for some reason the giants stopped giving him the ball for about 4 games. thats when they started there huge losing strek, going from 6-2 to 8-8, then they started giving him the ball again and guess what? they started winning again. tom coughlin, suck my d***

I thought Manning was citing that as part of Tiki's lack of leadership and not an excuse? I just don't buy that Tiki was a leader on that team. A good running back who did his job well? Yes. A leader? No.
Of course, I'm a bit biased since I think Barber is a tool.

I like the two back potential of Dee Dee Dorsey and Addai better than 'Fat' Dom Rhodes. It seemed if when Edge was here or last season w/ Addai would gain yardage, Dom would set us back 2 or 3 yards.
You right, he's second year w/ a ring-I think he'll show us somethin special this year.
Whatcho think bout the new INDIANAPOLIS COLTS D Slim!!! Stronger corners, more youth and agile backs. We get a big boi on the line and we gone see a show!!

As long as he doesn't **** up, he should be relatively safe. Its not like he killed a kid or is a child molester. If so, then he is a dead man if anyone had the chance.
EDIT; Holy **** farmer, come on. Get real, no one is really going to be in an outrage about him killing dogs. There are people there who have killed OTHER PEOPLE. The only real taboos in prison is if you screwed around with kids or if you are a rat. Thats a death sentence even if you don't get the death penalty. But killing dogs, no way. That makes it even more sick IMO.....you have all that money and you still need to gamble on dogs tearing each other apart.
On another note....does anyone watch Hard Knocks??? The KC training camp show?

See this is a problem that I have with the media coverage of this. The headline says: "Vick will NOT ADMIT to killing dogs or gambling on dog fights." It's basically saying that yes we think he's guilty of this but he won't come clean with it. Why not just say Vick will plead guilty to charge of interstate commerce for the purposes of dogfighting but will not plead gulity to the other charges of gambling and animal cruelty? ESPN is trying to put their own spin on this story once again to influence public perception and that is flat out wrong. They should be unbiased when reporting on this story.
I'm not a Mike Vick defender but let's let this thing play out in court and see what happens. We still do not have ALL of the facts yet.

Looks like my Bucs are interested in signing Trotter. They had him in for a work out yesterday.
But, what made it seem more than just another veteran workout that doesn't mean much was the fact that Gruden, Allen, and Kiffin were all present for the workout. Usually when a team brings a veteran in like this for a brief workout they have a few assistant and positional coaches present. The presence of the big three for Trotter's workout with the team may mean the Bucs are fairly interested in signing him.
Personally...I'm 50/50 on this. Trotter is old (30 and a 10 year vet), but he's still one of the best run stuffing LBs in the league. And the run is where the Bucs D got killed at last season. Still, I think bringing him in would hurt the progress of Rudd, who has looked good in camp and the preseason.
Another knock against Trotter is that he would not really fit the Bucs cover 2 scheme where the MLB is asked to cover deep down the field.
IDK...if we could sign him to a two or three year deal and put him in a rotation with Rudd it could work. Not to mention Trotter would bring in some help in the form of leadership to the Bucs, both on and off the field.
Also, the Bucs are looking into KR/WR Eddie Drummond, recently released from the Lions. Tampa Bay's returners have looked pretty ****ty so far and a specialist like Drummond would do nothing but help the unit.

While I loved him here....he is a eally old 30. He's slow, as shown in the Playoffs last year and he can't cover the TE anymore. he realyl shoudl just hang them up..he had a great career.

When will my Brownies wise up, realize we will suck this year, and put Brady in as our week 1 starter. Do they really think we have a playoff shot? I think we will be 6-10 at the most optimistic. I see a 4-12 or 5-11 year for us personally.

Michael Vick formally filed a plea deal in federal court Friday, agreeing that his dog-fighting enterprise included gambling and the killing of dogs.
Vick concedes to funding Bad Newz Kennelz and that the proceeds went to his co-defendants, but claims he didn't reap monetary benefit. He does admit he knew gambling was taking place and that dogs "died as a result of the collective efforts of (Purnell) Peace, (Quanis) Phillips, and (Vick himself)." ESPN.com did a terrible job getting this story so wrong over the last 24 hours

We shouldn't wait that long. It is not like we have a good QB to keep things going for a few weeks. Frye sucks. Anderson sucks. Dorsey sucks.
Just give it to the rook already. Worked for Peyton afterall.

VICK ADMITS EVERYTHING
We've reviewed in detail the plea agreement signed by Michael Vick on Thursday, along with the statement of facts.
Notwithstanding the anonymous source who told the anonymous reporter at ESPN that Vick would not admit to killing dogs or to gambling, Vick admits to everything.
In paragraph 1, Vick pleads guilty to conspiracy to establish, maintain, etc. an interstate gambling enterprise and conspiracy to engage in interstate dog fighting.
In paragraph 2, Vick admits that the Surry County property to which he initially said he never goes was the main staging area for housing and training pit bulls for fighting.
In paragraph 3, Vick admits to being involved in dog fights at the Surry County property, and to participating in dog fights in other states.
In paragraph 4, Vick admits that the enterprise involved gambling activities in violation of Virginia law. Vick denies that he placed side bets on any fights, or that he received process from the purses. (However, he admits that he was the primary source of funds for the operation. If the winnings went only to his co-defendants, then that's less money Vick had to give them to get them to continue to tend to the operation while he was "at work" for the Atlanta Falcons.)
In paragraph 9, Vick admits that he began acquiring dogs for the operation in "2001-2002," and that the "Bad Newz Kennels" were established in 2002.
In paragraph 12, Vick admits that he knew the other defendants "killed a number of dogs" that did not perform well in testing sessions in 2002. Vick denies killing any dogs at that time.
In paragraph 32, Vick admits that in April 2007 -- the same month in which he say face-to-face with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and denied that dog fighting was occurring on his land -- he agreed with Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips to kill six-to-eight dogs that did not perform well in testing sessions. Here's the key passage:
"[A]ll of those dogs were killed by various methods, including hanging and drowning. VICK agrees and stipulates that these dogs all died as a result of the collective efforts of PEACE, PHILLIPS, and VICK."
Case closed. He admits to gambling, and he admits to killing dogs.
Someone at ESPN has some serious explaining to do.

Just give it to the rook already. Worked for Peyton afterall. The worst thing you can do is put a rookie in straight away, it would shatter his confidence (esp going up agaisnt the ravends D and steelers D twice) and I really hope you didnt just compare Brady to Peyton.

Not saying he will be quite that good (not at all). I am just saying it worked out in the end for Peyton. Plus, our o-line doesn't suck anymore like it did when we had Couch.
Facing tough opponents will only help him. Putting him out against the cup cake defenses only won't do him any good. He needs to see what it is like playing the Ravens and Steelers (especially since we play them twice a year each).

You'll get the same # pick in either case...cause Frye and Anderson can't do any better than a rookie QB.
