Whenever you have an awesome kick returner that's so awesome you think you need give him boat loads of cash and try to find some other position he can play, remember these two words: Dante Hall

Dante Hall had that one season and disappeared. Devin Hester is not Dante Hall. Dante Hall is Devin Hester in his dreams. Even with all the attention and the huge target on Hester this season and after all the kicking away from him, he is still only one away from tying the record he set last season. Think about that for a second. Everyone knows what he can do, there aren't any more excuses after last season, and they are game planning against him in every game and he still finds a way. He leads the league in yards gained per kick off. He is two or three TDs away from the all time record, of whom had achieved that record with over 200 more games played than Hester. He is a game changer, he is the most exciting player in the game right now. Dante Hall isn't. He isn't an awesome kick returner or receiver.

The problem with the Bears is that they are really only using Hester as a decoy on offense still. Thats Ron Turner and basically thats just the Bears in general. They don't open up the offense enough, only until they really need to. They have maybe thrown a long bomb to Hester once or twice this year, and one of them he went in for a touchdown. I think they should try at least once a game to do that. Rex has got a strong arm, just let him launch it as far as he can and let Hester run out there. He is the fastest guy on the field.

Washington Post-Sean Taylor Update

Posted at 6:49 PM ET, 11/26/2007

A Positive Sign

Les Carpenter, who is working the story for us in Miami, heard rumblings that Sean may have opened his eyes.

I have not been able to get that confirmed but just heard from a team offical that Sean is now responsive, which is obviously a turn for the best. I will continue working away to get more details, but this is obviously a turn for the better after Sean spent much of the day in a "non-responsive and unconscious" state.

I think your trivializing Dante Hall.....while Hester has a ton more TD return....Hall had what 4 that one year...thats pretty damn good, plus the moves he made on those returns were outrageous

Taylor may be ight!

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/?hpid=topnews

Les Carpenter, who is working the story for us in Miami, heard rumblings that Sean may have opened his eyes.

I have not been able to get that confirmed but just heard from a team offical that Sean is now responsive, which is obviously a turn for the best. I will continue working away to get more details, but this is obviously a turn for the better after Sean spent much of the day in a "non-responsive and unconscious" state.

As the person put it: "Finally, the first good news all day." Let's hopes it's the first of more to come.

UPDATE: Vinny Cerrato is supposed to call in to us in a few minutes in the media room with an update

updated:

He was responsive to the doctor's requests to squeeze his hands and showed facial expressions. The doctors were very happy about that," Cerrato said " ... Two doctors came and told us they were excited about that."

Cerrato also confirmed my earlier reports about Sean being "non-responsive and unconscious."
Cerrato said: "We'd heard all that and what they told us was to hope foir a miracle."

Cerrato said Taylor is still in critical condition but did not have many details beyond that.

Les Carpenter reports from the hospital there that the mood has changed dramatically around there and people are suddenly in much better spirits.

Just got off the phone with Richard Sharpstein, Sean's lawyer and a family friend.

Richard said they are saying Sean is in stable but critical condition and remains under constant care in the ICU.

"This was a great ray of sunshines, but we're not out of the woods yet," Sharpstein said from the hospital. "The doctors are stil guarded about the diagnosis. Until he comes to and speaks and recognizes people, they are going to be guarded, but this was obviously a very positive sign and a recognition of a command."

Didn't have staying power. Teams adjusted and he hasn't really been able to do anything since. I've never seen anything like what Hester is doing. I think his most impressive return was when he went to the Pro Bowl, he didn't take it all the way back, but he made something out of nothing, completely surrounded at one point, he started juking pro bowlers out of their cleats, Troy Pollamalu missed him twice in the return. Plus hearing Jeff Joniak call one of Hester's returns on the radio is awesome. Almost makes up for not being able to see it.

That's ridiculous. You make it sound like the man is Al Capone or someone. Taylor had made changes in his life ever since his daughter was born in May 2006. Most of today's articles on the matter point to that. He's been in trouble once back in 2005 for brandishing/assault with a firearm. So despite whatever efforts he's made since then, including being heavily involved in the community and keeping out of trouble, he's reaping what he's sown in the form of a targeted attack that risks his life. Sure. :whatever:

I had to explain this to the other Colt fans in the thread when that catch happened too. His other foot dragged on the turf IN BOUNDS after he caught the ball. He had possession, his one foot was clearly in, and as he was falling, his other foot hit IN BOUNDS and then after that everything else is irrelevent, it doesn't matter that his knee hit out of bounds because he already had possession of the football with both feet in bounds. Thats a touchdown. I can't believe how many people missed that. I'm not a Pats fan and I clearly saw that.

Even when you're already up 20-30+ points by the 3rd?

Believe me, i'm all for Brady's whole, "We want to kill them," mentality whenever they step on the field, but when the competition's been dead since half-time, what purpose does it serve to keep beating an already dead horse...

The defense isn't going to just quit and stop trying against Brady. The purpose is to keep playing to win in each and every quarter, basically just play almost all the time as if it is tied up game so that when you do have to start playing those kinds of games you are used to that mind set, because its been that way all season long.

Come off it. The Steelers will make play-offs. Last time I checked they beat the "number 1" and "number 2" teams in the AFC to win the Superbowl as a wild card team just two years ago. Don't count them off yet. Also, how was their game any different than Indy's embarrassment against KC? Teams have bad days. Is it an excuse? No. But it does happen.

a-Steelers ain't beat on nobody, losses to the Chiefs, Bronco's and nearly the winless Fins...O.K. They might not even get past Cleveland.

As far as i'm concerned, all this running up the score and lack of class WILL come to bite them come January.

Karma will find its way around.

Oh, I don't care about the score running. The aim of the game is to score as many points, period. I just hope they go down because I want payback.

5-6

vs

11-0

Your point being? If you go by their records alone, then the game should have been a blowout. The point is, the Eagles gave them the closest game so far, and if Feeley had had another year under his belt, I bet he wouldn't have thrown those last two outside, and the game would have turned out a lot differently. It's not an excuse, but for all this talk about the Pats being the ****, they almost got taken apart by someone with half their record.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Philadelphia Eagles were contacted before the trade deadline regarding the availability of quarterback Donovan McNabb.

And the requested price was not one, not two, but three first-round draft picks.

Whether the price remains that high after the 2007 season remains to be seen. If it is, McNabb won't be traded.

Our guess is that the Eagles are aiming high in the hopes of getting the most they can. And, as the PFTV guys discuss below, the Eagles can't afford to appear interested in moving McNabb, or they'll have no leverage.

The smartest move for the Eagles, in our view, is to auction him off in the offseason, and to take the best deal they can get.

Its not a matter of blind hate. The Colts simply aren't a great team. They could be in the future, right now they aren't. Last season, they were good enough to win super bowls. That does not suddenly make them a dynasty the likes of the Patriots. If they were a great team for ten years as you claimed, they would be the ones with the 3 super bowl rings. As it is, they are not. They could be in the near future, who knows? Right now, they just aren't as great as you and Slim make them out to be.

A rash of injuries has forced Indianapolis Colts linebackers coach Mike Murphy to mix and match seemingly on a weekly basis this season, with six different 'backers starting at least one [URL="http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071127/SPORTS03/711270414#"]game (javascript:NewWindow(760,585,'/apps/pbcs.dll/misc?url=/misc/photos_single.pbs&IDato=20071127&IKategori=SPORTS03&ID=711270414');).
One constant has been success. Often the bane of last year's team, the linebacking corps has become a boon to this one. Linebackers have helped forge a vast improvement against the run, and have accounted for seven of the defense's 15 interceptions.
Not that the constant change hasn't been a challenge.
"It's tough just because of the different guys, different personalities, different knowledge of the game,'' middle linebacker Gary Brackett said Monday as the Colts began preparation for Sunday's AFC South showdown with Jacksonville in the RCA Dome.
Brackett has been the constant, the only linebacker to start all 11 games (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071127/SPORTS03/711270414#). Not only is he the defensive captain, he's the defense's quarterback.
"Definitely,'' he said. "I have to make sure I get everything orchestrated.''
That includes dabbling in a bit of psychoanalysis as the play clock winds down. He must be aware of which linebackers flank him and understand how each is wired.
At the risk of practicing without a license, Brackett offered his diagnosis of his teammates:
Freddy Keiaho, a six-game starter at weak-side: "He's very anxious. He wants to hit somebody. Sometimes he's biting on a little play-fake because he's so aggressive and wants to tackle.''
Rocky Boiman, who's started six games at strong-side: "Rocky's a veteran, so he's more cool.''
Clint Session, who made his first career start at weak-side at San Diego: "Cut from the same mold as Freddy. A little anxious. He was like a kid in a candy store (at San Diego).''
Tyjuan Hagler, who has started three times at weak-side, once at strong-side: "He's not going to say much. And I tell him all the time, 'I'm pretty sure you know what you're doing, but I'm just echoing our alignments and our responsibilities to ease (my mind).' He's like, 'That's OK. Just keep doing it.' "
That brings us to Brackett. He's excitable but knows his must be a controlled enthusiasm. It's his responsibility to make the defensive calls and make certain the young players understand their assignments.
"I'm more of a leader,'' said Brackett, who has started 41 of 43 regular-season games since replacing Rob Morris at middle linebacker at the start of the 2005 season. "You always want to be conscious of the game situation. I always try to look at the down and distance, where we're at, see what they've been doing, see what personnel they have in, then try to help some of the younger guys if they need it.''
After getting everyone else in position to do their job, he must do his.
"He's held (the linebacker unit) together,'' coach Tony Dungy (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071127/SPORTS03/711270414#) said. "He's playing with a lot of different guys and playing his position well. With that in mind, probably his best year.''
Brackett leads the team with 113 tackles. He had 14 in the Thanksgiving night win at Atlanta, the fourth time this season he's had at least that many.
Brackett has been most pleased with his week-to-week consistency.
"I'm making plays when I have the opportunity to make them,'' he said.
The same could be said for the entire unit, which lost Morris for the season when he tore his left quadriceps tendon Sept. 30 against Denver and has had to deal with injuries to Keiaho (concussion), Hagler (neck) and Session (hamstring).
The group has tightened up its tackling after struggling mightily in that area last season. And then there are the interceptions; with two apiece, Brackett, Boiman and Session are the first Colts linebacker trio to do that since 1973 (Mike Curtis, Ted Hendricks and Stan White).
"We're playing well and under the circumstances I think we're doing an excellent job,'' Dungy said. "We're tackling well. We're playing very physical.''

ASHBURN, Va. -- A little girl changed Sean Taylor's life.

Before the birth of his daughter Jackie, the Washington Redskins safety was nothing but trouble, on and off the football field, an extremely gifted athlete known more for his misdeeds than for any tackle or interception.

Taylor died early Tuesday morning, one day after being shot during a possible robbery at his home in the Miami suburb of Palmetto Bay, a tragic turn for a 24-year-old star who had matured immeasurably since Jackie's birth in May 2006 and, by all accounts, was having the best year of his career and his life.

"It's hard to expect a man to grow up overnight," said Redskins teammate and close friend Clinton Portis, who also played with Taylor at the University of Miami. "But ever since he had his child, it was like a new Sean, and everybody around here knew it. He was always smiling, always happy, always talking about his child."

Teammates and coaches often have portrayed Taylor as misunderstood, and that much was true. A private man with a small inner circle, Taylor became distrustful of reporters and anyone else he didn't know well. He rarely granted interviews, sometimes declining with a smile and a handshake and sometimes with a snarl that said: "Get out of my way."

But, behind the scenes, Taylor was described as personable and smart -- an emerging locker room leader.

"From the first day I met him, from then to now, it's just like night and day," Redskins receiver James Thrash said. "He's really got his head on his shoulders and has been doing really well as far as just being a man. It's been awesome to see that growth."

Taylor starred as a running back and defensive back at Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami. His father, Pedro Taylor, is the police chief of Florida City, Fla.

An All-American at the University of Miami, Taylor was drafted by the Redskins with the fifth overall selection in 2004. Coach Joe Gibbs called it "one of the most researched things" he's ever done, but the problems soon began. Taylor fired his agent, then skipped part of the NFL's mandatory rookie symposium, drawing a $25,000 fine. Driving home late from a party during the season, he was pulled over and charged with drunken driving. The case was dismissed in court, but by then it had become a months-long distraction for the team.

Taylor was also fined at least seven times for late hits, uniform violations and other infractions over his first three seasons, including a $17,000 penalty for spitting in the face of Tampa Bay running back Michael Pittman during a playoff game in January 2006.

Meanwhile, Taylor endured a yearlong legal battle after he was accused in 2005 of brandishing a gun at a man during a fight over allegedly stolen all-terrain vehicles near Taylor's home. He eventually pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to 18 months' probation.

Taylor said the end of the assault case was like "a gray cloud" being lifted. It was also around the time that Jackie was born, and teammates noticed a change.

"I even talked to Sean about it," left tackle Chris Samuels said. "I said, 'Man, I'm proud of you. You're doing a great job.' And he was like, 'Thanks, man, I'm just focused on my job and staying out of trouble and doing all the right things."'

On the field, Taylor's play was often erratic. Assistant coach Gregg Williams frequently called Taylor the best athlete he's ever coached, but nearly every big play was mitigated by a blown assignment. Taylor missed a number of tackles last seaosn, yet made the Pro Bowl because of his reputation as one of the hardest hitters in the league, one that earned him the nickname "Grim Reaper."

This year, however, Taylor was allowed to play a true free safety position, using his speed and power to chase down passes and crush would-be receivers. His five interceptions tie for the league lead in the NFC, even though he missed the last two games because of a sprained knee. Teammates said he had overhauled his diet this year to include more fruit, fish and vegetables and less red meat.

"I just take this job very seriously," Taylor said in a rare group interview during training camp. "It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom. And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that.'

"So I just say, 'I'm healthy right now, I'm going into my fourth year, and why not do the best that I can?' And that's whatever it is, whether it's eating right or training myself right, whether it's studying harder, whatever I can do to better myself."

His hard work was well-noted.

"He loved football. He felt like that's what he was made to do," Gibbs said. "And I think what I've noticed over the last year and a half ... is he matured. I think his baby had a huge impact on him. There was a real growing up in his life."

Taylor dies after being shot at home

MIAMI -- Pro Bowl safety Sean Taylor died Tuesday after he was shot in his home by an apparent intruder, leaving the Washington Redskins in mourning for a teammate who seemed to have reordered his life since becoming a father.

The 24-year-old player died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he had been airlifted after the shooting early Monday.

"It is with deep regret that a young man had to come to his end so soon," father Pedro Taylor said in a statement on behalf of the family. "Many of his fans loved him because the way he played football. Many of his opponents feared him the way he approached the game. Others misunderstood him, many appreciated him and his family loved him."

A string of mourners, including Taylor's father, visited the player's home and embraced outside. Authorities entered the home, but it was unclear what they were doing.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the league will honor Taylor's memory at all games this weekend.

"We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Sean's family, friends, teammates, and the Redskins' organization. This is a terrible tragedy involving the loss of a young man who leaves behind many people struggling to understand it," Goodell said. "Our office is staying in close contact with the Redskins to provide all appropriate support to the club and Sean's family. We also are working to determine the facts surrounding this tragic event. We will honor the memory of Sean Taylor at all games this weekend."

Taylor's No. 21 will be painted in a grass parking area leading into Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va. In addition, No. 21 will also be painted in front of the Redskins Hall of Fame store.

Fans already began a makeshift memorial by laying flowers on a field near the front entrance to the practice facility. Several people paid respects at Taylor's parking space.

Sean Taylor was tied for the NFC lead for interceptions with five and was known as one of the league's hardest-hitting defensive backs.

"This is the worst imaginable tragedy," Redskins owner Daniel Snyder said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Sean's family."

Redskins teammate Clinton Portis also played with Taylor at the University of Miami. He had sensed a new maturity in his close friend.

"It's hard to expect a man to grow up overnight," Portis said. "But ever since he had his child, it was like a new Sean, and everybody around here knew it. He was always smiling, always happy, always talking about his child."

Two bouquets were left by a palm tree outside a front gate of the home. Beside the mailbox, an untouched newspaper lay with news of Taylor's shooting.

Taylor's death comes nearly a year after Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was killed in a drive-by shooting following an argument at a Denver nightclub on Jan. 1. University of Miami defensive lineman Bryan Pata was shot to death in November 2006 several miles from Taylor's home in an unsolved killing.

Doctors had been encouraged late Monday when Taylor squeezed a nurse's hand, according to Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins' vice president of football operations. But family friend Richard Sharpstein said he was told Taylor never regained consciousness after being taken to the hospital, and he wasn't sure how he had squeezed the nurse's hand. He said Taylor's father told him the death occurred about 5:30 a.m.

"Maybe he was trying to say goodbye or something," Sharpstein said.

Taylor, the fifth overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft following an All-American season at Miami, was shot early Monday in the upper leg, damaging the key femoral artery and causing significant blood loss.

"According to a preliminary investigation, it appears that the victim was shot inside the home by an intruder," Miami-Dade County police said in a statement. "We do not have a subject description at this time."

The attack came just eight days after an intruder was reported at Taylor's home. Officers were sent to the home about 1:45 a.m. Monday after Taylor's girlfriend called 911.

Sharpstein said Taylor's girlfriend told him the couple was awakened by loud noises, and Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection. Someone then broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor, Sharpstein said. Taylor's 1-year-old daughter, Jackie, was also in the house, but neither she nor Taylor's girlfriend was injured.

Police found signs of forced entry, but have not determined whether they were caused Monday or during the previous burglary.

The shooting happened in the pale yellow house Taylor bought two years ago. In last week's break-in, police said someone pried open a front window, rifled through drawers and left a kitchen knife on a bed.

Taylor starred as a running back and defensive back at Gulliver Prep in Miami. His father is police chief of Florida City.

"I am devastated over the loss of Sean Taylor," Miami coach Randy Shannon said. "When he was a student at the University of Miami, I got to know him as a person and as a football player. He was passionate about everything he did and was a great friend to his teammates. My thoughts are with his family."

A private man with a small inner circle, Taylor rarely granted interviews. But, behind the scenes, Taylor was described as personable and smart.

After Taylor was drafted, problems soon began. Taylor fired his agent, then skipped part of the NFL's mandatory rookie symposium, drawing a $25,000 fine. I understand what you're saying, but his past struggles were part of his story. And according to his teammates, he'd really turned things around in the last couple years, especially since the birth of his daughter. It really makes it all the more tragic because it seemed like as soon as he cleaned up his act, he was taken so suddenly.

I havent read back the previous pages and I would not say he deserved to die at all, but like I said, I felt conflicted because of his past. To be completely honest, when I heard yesterday about what happened, I was not surprised.

So he had to try hard to be an upstanding citizen?? I manage to pull it off every day with little effort....i only hope his family will be able to pull through this as this is something that is bigger than football

He made the appropriate changes in his life, he corrected his mistakes and was a new person. Why fault him any more?

So what you were saying is that it isnt the worst thing in the world that a man who was trying his heart out to save his own life died???

It is horrible what happened, but I wont put the man on a pedastal just because he is dead

I am not faulting him at all, I was just expressing my feelings about the situation

I have just been pissed about this Taylor thing all day, man. We were at work hoping he would pull through, then we keep hearing his situation is getting worse. Damn it. I hate when people go young.

One of the best players in the NFL dies after he has only played a few seasons. That is sad upon itself.

I havent seen a single poster saying that he is the greatest man ever. I havent even heard anything in the news praising his life. They always talk about his troubled past, but they also dont forget to mention that he has made a big attempt to change and save his life. You have to atleast realize that its sad that a man who made a strong push to change his life for the better died so young.

So, according to BL, you have to be a model citizen who gives all of his money to charity in order to not be mocked during death.

I said nothing about giving money to charity. My point was I am not going to pat someone on the back for behaving as they should

Thats not what we are doing. People here, at first, said he deserved it. We are now talking about what he has done to steer clear of that life. Its not like we want him to receive a medal. All we are saying is that he honestly didnt deserve this to happen to him.

He didn't look hurt, I am just suprised. I saw the replay and thought man, his shoulder is bungled, but the guy was smiling on the sidelines. Maybe he was high?

The thing that makes me sad more than that is his little daughter.

Daddy won't be around to see her grow up. :csad:

I understand what you're saying, but his past struggles were part of his story. And according to his teammates, he'd really turned things around in the last couple years, especially since the birth of his daughter. It really makes it all the more tragic because it seemed like as soon as he cleaned up his act, he was taken so suddenly.

RIP Sean

Exactly....some, not all I think were trying to stress how much he has changed since the birth of his child.

Replacing Freeney with Rice is like replacing LT with Priest Holmes. They're just not what they were. :csad:
