Not that I'm a huge Colts fan, but Indianapolis gave them that win.
So the gf works with someone who had season tickets to the Jets. So yesterday, I froze my ass off in the freezing rain to watch a match of who sucked less.
I heard a guy in the back of me, say something about overtime when the Jets were winning 10 to 3 and I was like "F' that!!!"
We left with like 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Walking out the Chiefs tied it, and down the road we listened to the Jets win it in overtime.
Eh, it was a $45 game. *shrug*
Haven't been to a game in over a year. :down
Indy didn't give them anything. Titans fumbled on 2 key drives and were ahead when Manning left that game. Then Vince was knocked out of the game in the 3rd. Titans could have kicked another field goal and would have been up by 9 pts with 40 seconds left. Indy gave them nothing.

I am not disagreeing... but playing backups for an entire half againts a team in playoff mode isn't giving your team much of a chance to win at all. Titans did what they had to do... but 16 points against second stringers is not impressive at all.

Just what The Eagles would need
Another receiver who has trouble catching? :woot:
I'm just kidding....kinda.
But I never really expected him back. Of course I'd rather get rid of Mushin Muhammed instead, but whatever the case, and especially from the postgame conference with Lovie Smith, Devin Hester could be the starting wide out next season. He has the skills to do it, he is already practically in the Hall of Fame, he is the most dangerous player in the league, start getting the ball to him more. The Bears are cursed in the way that they have always had these once in in lifetime type players and never a team around him to really capitalize on their talent. Sayers, Payton, etc.

He ended up with 9 less yards than he had last year while getting 40 more carries. His ypc dropped from 4.8 to 4.1; but more importantly, in the 2 months since the new england game these are his numbers:
368 yards on 112 carries- thats a 3.3 yards per carry over his final 8 games.
Thats not even remotelyt efficient.
They're using Addai more in the passing game. His recieving stats have improved since last season.

Should we already start a separate 2008 thread to discuss next season too? LOL I'll leave that up to Stormin so for now the 2008 opponents have been chosen for all teams:
http://www.titansonline.com/news/newsmain_detail.php?PRKey=5507
The opponents for all 2008 regular-season games have been determined and a complete list of each team’s home and away matchups was issued today by the NFL.
The scheduling formula implemented in 2002 with realignment guarantees that all teams play each other on a regular, rotating basis.
Under the formula, every team within a division plays 16 games as follows:
• Home and away against its three division opponents (6 games).
• The four teams from another division within its conference on a rotating three-year cycle (4 games).
• The four teams from a division in the other conference on a rotating four-year cycle (4 games).
• Two intraconference games based on the prior year’s standings (2 games). These games match a first-place team against the first-place teams in the two same-conference divisions the team is not scheduled to play that season. The second-place, third-place, and fourth-place teams in a conference are matched in the same way each year.
The official 2008 schedule, with playing dates and times, will be announced in the spring.
NFL Kickoff 2008 Weekend will begin on Thursday night, September 4, and the regular season will conclude on December 28.
Wild Card Weekend will be Saturday and Sunday, January 3-4; Divisional Playoff games on the weekend of January 10-11; and the AFC and NFC Championship Games on Sunday, January 18.
Super Bowl XLIII at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida will be played on Sunday, February 1.

Dallas' Sparano a head coach candidate in Atlanta?
Monday, Dec 31, 2007 3:50 pm EST
Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Tony Sparano is expected to speak with the Atlanta Falcons about their vacant head coaching position according to the Dallas Morning News. Sparano is also rumored to "be coveted'' by Bill Parcells in Miami.
Sparano has been a Cowboys' assistant since 2003, serving as tight ends and offensive line coach before having the assistant head coach title added in 2006. Sparano served as the Cowboys' play-caller in 2006 when they scored 425 points and produced two 1,000-yard receivers and a 1,000-yard rusher. He has coached Pro Bowlers Jason Witten, Flozell Adams, Andre Gurode, Leonard Davis and Larry Allen with the Cowboys.

Don't be surprised if Arizona moves James
Monday, Dec 31, 2007 3:36 pm EST

Don't be shocked if Edgerrin James is wearing a different uniform next season according to the East Valley Tribune. His salary cap number will be $5 million for the Arizona Cardinals.
The Cardinals won't dump James if they don't have a capable replacement. They saw how well that worked out with Pete Kendall.
But if Arizona can find a quality running back in the draft, moving James for salary cap relief would make sense. The Indianapolis Colts did it, and they won a Super Bowl with his replacement, Joseph Addai.

Javon Walker wants out of Denver
Monday, Dec 31, 2007 3:12 pm EST
The Denver Post reports that wide receiver Javon Walker, acquired via a trade with the Green Bay Packers, said he wants out of Denver. Walker suggested he might even like to return to Green Bay.
In a rambling briefing with the press, Walker essentially said he longer wants to be with the Broncos. Walker has $5.4 million in option bonus money coming to him this year and the team was planning on keeping him. However, after his bombshell, the team will likely seriously consider parting ways.
"It's not for Javon," Walker said. "It's not for me."

The schedules rotate. If you're an AFC team you play an NFC team every four years, the other AFC divisons every three years and however you do during this season. Since the Steelers won their divison they play the other three divison winners. If you finish last in your divison, you play the other last place teams. You can pretty much find out a teams schedule forever with the exception of two games.
Spider-Fan
12-31-2007, 08:25 PM
Correct. There is a scheduling formula. Unfortunately, it is unkind to the Browns and the AFC North as a whole, and more gentle to the AFC East in this case. It is just the way the system works.

The schedule is not hard to figure out. Each AFC division faces another one in rotation, same goes with AFC vs. NFC divisions. Just look at where each team placed in their division to get there remaining 2 opponents, and you have the schedule pretty much. It is not that hard to do.

I disagree. Most likely the Super Bowl winner would've won their divison. That means they will play the other three division winners. Plus, the team that won their divison in the other conference. The team that has the worse record(Dolphins) are going to get to play the other three teams that finished last in their divison. It's pretty fair if you ask me.

Because only two games are based on strength of schedule, the rest are pre-determined from year to year. This year they play the top two teams from the AFC (after them) and the NFC, since they are the top team in the AFC. So they play, the Colts and Seahawks. They get the Seahawks who are ranked 4th in the NFC; because they played the Cowboys(1) and Giants(3) this year, and are already scheduled to play all the NFC North teams (Packers(2)) the following year.

On ESPN this morning they said that the top 2 candidates for the Head Coaching spot for Baltimore are Garret from Dallas and also Jim Caldwell, the assistant head coach of the Colts. I think that Garret would be a great addition and would add a lot of offense to our team but I feel that Caldwell would be the perfect fit in Baltimore. He is the type of guy that doesn't take a lot of bull crap and can handle a lot of stars on one team. On ESPN, they said that he is the "Phil Jackson of the NFL

You make that deal if its there... otherwise you'll have to tag his ass next offseason if he is indeed a big time QB... or you might get nothing for him like Brees/Chargers a couple of years back... go with the youth... the defense needs a MAJOR overhaul... you need those picks in the draft... no 1st rounder this year kills you... I am telling you... be one of those fans that pleads your Browns to deal Anderson.

I see Pats signing Samuel and Moss, if thats the case we could see a guy like Vernon Gholston or even Kenny Phillips.
I just don't see where they have the space... Harrison will be gone... Seau isn't making that much... Stallworth is off the books... but where else is that cap space coming from? Brady had to restructure just to get Moss under the cap... now Moss will command almost ten million a year... and Samuel is a top five CB. Its one or the other. That's the NFL.

It makes sense... I could see it... but the Pats aren't giving up more than a third rounder for Taylor... they need those draft picks. I agree with Excel that they will probably cut Colvin... but Bruschi is probably going to retire. Seau is done no matter what... Vrabel is old... the Pats have neglected the LB's in the draft. They need those draft picks... though I am not sure Taylor can play in that 3-4 and this age... that's why I don't see the Pats landing him. Parcells never scraps the whole thing... to him... he's got a decent RB when healthy and a franchise defensive player. I wouldn't scrap everything... even if I'm Miami.

I agree. You look over the years at Kansas City's offensive production.
2002 - 375.0 YPG - 4th Best in the NFL
2003 - 369.4 YPG - 2nd Best in the NFL
2004 - 418.4 YPG - 1st Best in the NFL
2005 - 387.0 YPG - 1st Best in the NFL
Then comes in Herm Edwards.
2006 - 321.4 YPG - 16th Best in the NFL
2007 - 276.8 YPG - 31st Best in the NFL
You can blame the last couple of years on injuries and lack of QB expierence, but there's no reason for that offense to drop that suddenly. The defense isn't that bad in KC. Jared Allen is young and will be great for years to come. The offense needs a LOT of work done.

I believe it was an interception return; Packers OL Chad Clifton was just jogging down the field (no threat to make a tackle, since the play was like, 30 yards away and moving the other direction) and Sapp blindsided him with a [Kel Madden] de-cleater [/Kel Madden]. It was a legal hit, but a cheap shot IMO. Clifton had to leave the game and spent some time in the hospital ( I think he missed the rest of the season). Sherman let Sapp know after the game that he didn't appreciate it. Allow me to paraphrase...
Sherman: That was bull**** what you pulled.
Sapp: **** you.
Sherman: No, **** you.
Sapp: You so tough? Put a jersey on! Put a jersey on if you so tough. Put a jersey on ...or get some better players!
--------------
Afterwards...
Sapp: If I was 25 years old and didn't have a kid and a conscience, I would have given him an asskicking right there at the 30-yard line.

His problem is that he's too stubborn to admit when his system isn't working. The only times he changes it up, he overcompensates, apparently thinking he's proving a point.

Browns Defense-TM- Browns Jan. 4 - 3:20 am et
ESPN's John Clayton doesn't believe coach Romeo Crennel is likely to get a contract extension from the Browns.
The sides have discussed a three-year extension, but Clayton thinks Crennel must prove himself again in 2008 to get that kind of security. If the Browns don't lock Crennel up, however, he could take any overtures from the Dolphins more seriously. Several reports have him at the top of Miami's list.

Dolphins Defense-TM- Dolphins Jan. 3 - 9:34 pm et
An NFL source tells the Palm Beach Post that Browns coach Romeo Crennel is on the Dolphins' "A list" of head coaching candidates.
Crennel could use Miami's interest in him as leverage in extension talks with Cleveland. Cowboys assistant head coach Tony Sparano, who will interview with the Falcons on Friday, is reportedly also on the Dolphins' "A list."

Jared Allen-DL- Chiefs Jan. 4 - 2:20 am et
Chiefs DE Jared Allen says he and the team are not close to reaching agreement on a long-term contract.
He will be franchise tagged if the sides haven't found a common ground by February. Allen led the NFL in sacks in 2007 despite missing two games.

Bernard Berrian-WR- Bears Jan. 4 - 2:09 am et
Bears GM Jerry Angelo didn't rule out the idea of placing the franchise tag on impending free agent Bernard Berrian at Thursday's press conference.
The tag would net Berrian roughly $8 million, the same amount Chicago offered him during in-season contract talks. The Bears' reporters don't think Berrian will be back, but the franchise tag makes a lot of sense on both ends.

Chad Johnson-WR- Bengals Jan. 3 - 11:47 pm et
Adam Schefter reports that a "showdown is looming" between Chad Johnson and the Bengals.
If T.J. Houshmandzadeh gets a contract extension as expected, Ocho Cinco is going to make a stink about his below-market deal. There are indications he already has, and may ask to be dealt this offseason. The Bengals don't seem willing to move Johnson, but a possible holdout or trade request looks like a possibility.

Sapp was a bit of a d*** to fans in Tampa, but his skills should never be questioned. One of the best pass rushers to ever play the defensive tackle position, and a guy who was one of THE cornerstones of the Buccaneers turnaround in the mid 90s. I'll always remember his wars with Favre, and it's sad to see the man go.
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/2/sappqf7.jpg
Yeah, he did have a reputation of being an ******* to fans who met him on the streets, but I can't really blame him. If you're out with your family you don't want to be continually harrassed for autographs and such that you'll see on eBay later.
And it's not like you can just give a few and that's it. Then you'll have the ones who got shot down all pissy and *****ing in front of your wife and kids and ruining your evening.
In any case, it's sad to see him go. I hope the Bucs will do the right thing and sign him to the typical one-day contract so that he can retire a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.
Hell, I'd love it if he could come back at a smaller salary for a year and jump in the D-Line rotation for 08 and retire after the season. Would only help the progress of Haye and the other DTs to have a veteran like Sapp help further teach them the UT position the Bucs use.
I think that's just a pipe dream though. :csad:

49ers' Willis named Defensive Rookie of Year
49ers ILB Patrick Willis was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press.
"The good Lord has blessed me with skills that are uncommon," he said. Yes, He has. Willis, the No. 11 overall pick, should've went higher. He led the NFL with 173 tackles in 2007; the next closest was 33 behind. Willis also had four sacks and may already be the league's best linebacker in pursuit. He won with 48 of 50 votes. I can't believe the Steelers are basically being given no chance to win by some people in their playoff game. Yeah Jacksonville is good, but come on, that game was decided by just one touchdown. One touchdown and it's a completely different game. The way you hear about the game you expected it was a blowout. One horrible performance against the rush in how many games and the Steelers are done for? In one of ESPN's polls the Steelers have been voted as one of least likeliest underdog to win and the Redskins were voted as the most likely. Is that a joke? The Redskins are like the Saints last year. They aren't going anywhere even if they beat Seattle, which would shock me if they did.

Seattle 20 Skins 17 (The dream is over for the douchebags that are the Redskins)
Jags 28 Steelers 17 (Steelers have no shot... for real...)
Giants 24 TB 16 (Sorry Numb3r... but the Bucs are probably not even a playoff team if they played in the NFC East)
San Diego 31 Titans 13 (This one will be brutal to watch...)
But whatever happens is really irrelevant... none of these teams have a legitimate shot at a Superbowl IMO. Playoffs really start next week. As for the preliminary games... I'll just enjoy and avoid the sweat unlike last year.

Honestly, Ryan's not the Raiders problem, as I've said before. They DO refer to the major problem the Raiders have, though, and that's Al Davis. The guy won't let his coaching and management staff do what they want to do or recruit how they'd like to. As a lifelong Raiders fan I still say that, as long as Al Davis is alive or has any say in what that team does, they will suck. :(

But can they afford to keep him? Other teams will make him offers and I think they can outbid Pittsburgh, unless he is franchise tagged, which I think will piss him off. Any time there is an interview on the local news with Ben about his future, he does not hesitate to say "I am playing football for the money. Its my job, its my career. The Redskins can stick with Campbell for now. They can go out and get a backup for him during the offseason. Grossman or Losman is someone they can look at. Those two won't be at all pricey.

He would be their backup QB, not the starter. Campbell at this point is their starting QB of the future unless something drastic changes.

I dont know where the redskins love came from??? they are a mediocre team at best....dont let the tragedy screw up your fan filter....they aint that good, were playing on emotion and that only gets you so far

6 of thier losses were decide by 8 points or less. And like I said before, they played Dallas and Green Bay very well on the road. They're way above being a mediocre team.

Seattle's defense was outstanding, Hasselbeck had a good 1st and 4th quarter when he needed to be big. i thought Collins/Moss mini spell was gonna turn the game though.

a Loss is still a loss....I think they are OK, but Joe Gibbs, if he sticks around has a lot of work to do come off season.
as a Giants fan, I can only hope Coughlin gets the boot if/when they lose....

I think Couglin needs to take this team to the Super Bowl if he wants his job back next season. He may even have to win it. Another first round exit and he's done.

No self-respecting Giants fan wants Coughlin back next season. Can him and bring back John Fox to the organization that will happily make him the head coach as his future in Carolina is questionable

I think they'll beat Tampa. Second round is questionable.

I've heard John Fox may be on his way out as head coach for Carolina. As a Panthers fan, it's a shame. I love his coaching techniques. He's a very smart coach. He's had to deal with alot of injuries the past two seasons. The guy knows how to get to a Super Bowl. It would be a great pick-up for New York if both coaches are fired.

when John Fox left the Giants for Carolina, the Giants front office was very vocal about Fox being welcome back if he ever chose to return to the team
