Just the concept of CIVIL WAR actually being over by May is refreshing. Yeah, okay, they're milking it with "reaction one-shots", but the general story will be over and the aftermath can begin. It also throws a monkey wrench into some of the "Cap dies" theorists, although the "Cap is Ronin II" theory can still live, at least until NA #30. And yes, Romita Jr. draws a great Cap. The guy's a good artist, what do you want?

It also confirms that, natch, a hero will die in CW #7. As if that wasn't a given. Events without death are like wrestling matches without interferences; rare. Besides, at least in FRONTLINE #10, the pro-SHRA troopers already claimed one scalp with Typeface in that final battle, even if no one cared.

NEW AVENGERS #30 seems very busy, although to people who take Bendis' "I won't drag out the Ronin mystery as long this time", note that the last Ronin was also unmasked after 3 issues. The only difference was that the hype machine had been generating since NA #1, almost a year prior. The story itself didn't use Ronin that much and at best she was a guest star. And there'd STILL better be an explaination about how that sword stabs Dr. Strange. Bendis, just state it being magical. One line of dialogue. Lord knows you waste entire pages of utterly useless "Yeah?", "Yeah." type dialogue, please this time use a line or two to get your power levels right. I'd like to believe you actually LEARN as you go.

NEW AVENGERS vs. MIGHTY AVENGERS? Man, that was fast. Guess anyone hoping for a breather from the "heroes fight heroes because we utterly fail at writing villians these days" stuff from CW may be in for a surprise.

The fact that only a 3rd issue of ILLUMINATI ships by month 5 implies Cheung's schedule. The first issue was fine, and Reed co-writing helped the work. I'm aboard.

Proving that not just CIVIL WAR, X-MEN or WWH can be milked for all they are worth, BLACK PANTHER does a crossover into the MARVEL ZOMBIES world. Shameless! Especially when you include 2 other MZ books that month. And then Marvel wonders why the X-Men don't command nearly the draw they did 6-7 years ago, when ANY X-book sold in the Top 10. Dudes, when you overmilk, the property runs dry. Oh, well, I guess that is Marvel's way, strike when the iron is hot, and since they're rarely contested by DC in monthly sales to earn #1 spot, it must work. I'm uninterested, although I am waiting to sell my first print MARVEL ZOMBIES #1. Think I could get a good price for it?

The MARVEL MAGIC HANDBOOK will naturally be snatched up.

The "New" Fantastic Four roster of Black Panther, Storm, Human Torch and Thing is still stupid. Nice attempt to cement BP & Storm as the #1 couple with the move, because lord knows that simply SHOVING that couple at us vs. allowing their love to blossum naturally has worked so well. All we have gotten are endless stories TELLING us how destined they are together vs. actually allowing a romance to bud, like with other classics like Reed & Sue, Scott & Jean, and yes, Peter & MJ (and Joe Q can eat it on that point).

Looking forward to RUNAWAYS and it's spin-off, THE LONERS. I wonder if Whedon is going to rely too much on guest stars for his first arc of RUNAWAYS, but we'll have to see. To be fair, the last time they went to NYC with BKV aboard, the entire cast of NEW AVENGERS showed up (as well as a cameo from She-Hulk and naturally Cloak & Dagger were there), so I'll give him a chance. The concept of the Punisher meeting the Runaways almost seems like a bad 90's pun gone bad (are Ghost Rider and Venom far behind), and the cover is unintentionally pedo-licious, but I'll wait to read it. The LONERS issue sounds good and I like that cover better than the #1 issue. Who'd have thunk RUNAWAYS would get a spin-off? Can't wait.

Bendis always overuses explamation points. He figures that if 1 is bold, two must be intense and more than 3 has to be incredible.

And remember, last time the Hand kicked there butts for an issue because of "cramped quarters", negating the fact that I've seen Aunt May beat 700 of them in a closet blindfolded. They say that in the 616 MU, if you throw a rock in any random direction, you hit a Hand ninja and defeat him. Maybe it's not Bendis' fault that past writers over the past 20 years have overused the Hand and made them expendable useless fodder, but you do kind of have to acknowledge the past sometimes.

Then an issue later, Luke Cage clocks Silver Samurai in the face and the guy was actually still conscious.

Bendis likes ninjas. Maybe he could have some explaination as to why the Hand are a challenge to the New Avengers but weak against any over superhero in the known universe, including lone members of the NA in their own books, but I don't expect it. Who knows.

No more ninjas!

That's what irks me about MIGHTY AVENGERS. In that, the Avengers team actually fights villians like Mole Man and Ultron. But in NEW AVENGERS, the best Bendis can give us is F'ing ninjas.

OMEGA FLIGHT #2 looks nice. Maybe that answers the question of where all the villians are who aren't in jail, Thunderbolts, or dead. They're all fleeing to Canada. But wouldn't any also flee to Mexico? And soon there won't be anyone to stop heroes fighting heroes 24/7 like Joe wants. Oh, well, OF looks hot.

Greg Horn's SHE-HULK cover reminds me of that INVINCIBLE cover that had Angstrom Levy's face on it.

MOON KNIGHT #11 looks nice and hopefully the new artist will be good.

Naturally, IMMORTAL IRON FIST #6 looks cool but it has got to either sell better or stablize an audience fast. It's been falling about ten sales slots an issue so far, and it has an A-list creative team and was advertised like hell.

Got to love how MIGHTY AVENGERS get to fight actual supervillians while all Bendy can muster on NA is ninjas. Also got to love how he makes Ultron a hot girl simply because Frank Cho is in art, and any other explaination he gives is baloney. I never want to see what he does to Red Skull. :p

I know it's pretentious, I just get tired of many books that die a slow painful death because the "common fan" gives nothing a try. And all the bad ideas that are trucked out to appeal to them. I guess the majority of any audience is destined to have crappy taste though. I mean, look at all the bad movies that sell like blockbusters. Or the bad TV shows that survive while some good ones die. It goes with any genre I suppose, just sometimes it frustrates me, and I am sure everyone at some point.

Uncanny X-Men: Nightcrawler has a sword! Awesome. But, jeez, Havok is ugly.

Omega Flight: A cool cover; also, from the solicit we don't get the whole team in the first issue. I have this image of USAgent invading the preexisting little anti-Iron Man/indifferent to Iron Man circle of Arachne, Talisman, Sasquatch, and Beta Ray Bill.

Mighty Avengers: The solicit starts out well, with the "taking over Iron Man/taking over everything" rhyme, but the constant "Frank Cho draws great T and A" needs to stop.

New Excalibur: For the love of God, Chris, stop it with the Dark X-Men. Just stop. It's too late to quit while you're ahead, but the great stuff is still slightly visible if you squint; quit before it drops over the horizon.

Second question, which Avenger ISN'T Tigra dating would be more puzzling.

And I'm kind of tired of Frank Cho. I see his art so much it seems that I just don't want any more.

I'm kinda curious how Ultron takes over Iron Man, seeing how he's suppossed to be this living computer juggernaut thing now.

I also like how they're kind of rehashing Civil War, and renaming it, "What If? Civil War happened, only the Hulk is the primary reason to want superhuman control laws, and still on Earth?" Crap, I mean "World War Hulk."

I'm honestly going to start to take bets on who thinks She Hulk is gonna end up on the Leader's smaller head.

As far as Joe Q is concerned, BP and Storm are the premire couple of the Marvel U, even equated them with Prince Charles and Diana if you can believe it. Never mind that, unlike Sue and Reed or Spider-Man and MJ, they were characters created exclusively for totally different comics and such crossover romances never work in the long run.

He makes April O'Niel in the 1987 TMNT cartoon look like Kim Possible (and to those who don't get the joke, in that series April got captured/kidnapped every other episode and spend much time bound and/or gagged). Plus, add in Ultimate Ronin and what once was an arc that was on the verge of keeping me on USM after Clone Saga is now becoming more and more like it will simply be more of the same irritating status quo where USM is all but a bit player in his own book.

It kills me to imagine all the writers who could be kicking ass on this book instead of Bendis, who is so burnt out it's not even funny. Robert Kirkman, Jeff Parker, Brian Reed, hell, maybe even McKeever. I could go on. No wonder Bagley's gettin' tired.

Although this version of the costume was used for covers it never made into the actual content of the comic. It still keeps some kind of collar (although not the original one) and adds other elements that modernize it a bit. I know the gloves are very Kazuya/Jin/Tekken but they look cool, IMO. They took away the sash and the kung fu shoes that everyone seems to have a problem with for stuff that protect him more. They kept the open chest to showcase the dragon tattoo.

To me, this is a much better costume than the simplified one they're using now which sometimes makes me think got downgraded so that it would be easier to draw and depends on the abundance of flailing fabric (the sash and mask tips) to give it some flair.
