IRON MAN
Both actor Robert Downey and screenwriter Mark Fergus were are featured in video interviews at IGN (http://media.movies.ign.com/media/034/034317/vids_1.html), including some interesting chatter about the role Jeff Bridges may play and how Downey will approach the role of Tony Stark. IGN also has a multi-page summary (http://movies.ign.com/articles/764/764305p1.html) of all the data they've collected about the film (http://comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=9661#), including news about plans in effect to make a "War Machine" spin off starring Terence Howard and some crew notes.

I speculated as much a year ago that War Machine would make a great spin-off character.
Thats why Terrence Howard signed on is to star in that spin-off film.

So... the spin-off of a film about a dude who uses a suit of armour to battle villains, will be about a dude who uses a suit of armour to battle villains?

A Downey cameo would make sense.

I'd like War Machine to be in the Avengers.. if they were really doing a spinoff movie for him.. it would have to be different enough thematically to entice non-fanboys like us..

one option is to base the plot on the Chuck Austen MAX War Machine stories, though those were 'rated R', more or less..

also, they could do a reworked adaptation of christopher priest's THE CREW series (for as long as it lasted).. Rhodey, Josiah X, Danny Vincent, etc.

A WarMachine spin-off would just be the same damn thing. Why even bother?

A War Machine spinoff. That's something I'll be looking forward to.

Although i like the idea, i would rather have War Machine developed in the Iron Man sequels, and team up with Iron Man to take down the Mandarin.

I think War Machine will be viewed by the public as too close to Iron Man. I don't know if a spinoff is the greatest of ideas. I'd personally love it, but I think it will confuse the commoners and possibly bomb.

Define Rhodes as his own man with his own story and the rest should work.

NO, It thought it would be cool but do not have a spin-off maybe have him show up in one of the iron man films, but he should not get his own movie they are almost they same character. I would want to see what he looks like though, it wouldn't be a base black paint job, possibly a metallic black like the PS3

RockSP

^^Why would it be black at all?

my understanding is that the war machine armor is silver and black[ala the oakland raiders] it just looks grey in the comics

"Hey look, a movie about that other Iron Man."
"Which one?"
"The one with the guns. You know, from the second movie. Seems he's got his own flick now."
"What are we waiting for? Let's go see it!"

Plus Rhodey has a different back-story that allows for different character development angles and a different representation of the "hero's motivation."

It can be a good film. Lead in by having War Machine appear in IM2... then a spin off can some (not to mention, I see a lot of TV potential with all the Marvel activity going on... X-Men origins, cross-overs, less central characters in the mix).

There is a lot of fertile ground with characters like War Machine, Heros for Hire, other X books...

Wow I thought they were gonna incorporate War Machine in Iron man 2... but a spin off sounds good as well

I really like the potential for TV prime-time or even animated programming (like the UA video game intro footage... kickass stuff).

A movie about a positive black superhero who isnt a black sterotype with all the bells and whistles of his "brighter" counterpart saving the world.

I can see it having potential

But seriously i dont think people will see it as less of a movie since war machine would most likely appear in IM2. It could be the Wolverine Origins of the series.............if you know War Machine was the main character in the iron man movies.............

I'd support a spin-off. It would be a great storyline, plus we get one of the best Marvel heroes ever.

We were introduced to James Rhodes in Iron Man, he had quite some screen time and his relation with Stark was explained. Now he'll finally become War Machine in Iron Man 2 and will team up with Stark. He'll also be in The Avengers and possible sequels and in Iron Man 3. Why should he need a spin-off?

RockSP

Why should he need a spin-off?

LOL @ "should". Why "should" any character get a spin-off? If the studio thinks a spin-off will make money he'll get one.
