By The White Wig Of Susan
I realize that we touched on this topic last year when we got our first glimpse at Susan with the "Fantasticar" promo photo. However, since then, we've seen much more footage, right up till the last two days with the new TV spots.
That said, what is your current opinion of this character's hairstyling for this film? I had to change my poll vote from JAL's thread based on new 'evidence', so here's a chance for others to do the same if they need to. I'll add my two cents later...

As I mentioned, I had to change my vote, after seeing the TV Spots. For the most part I am very dissapointed now that I've seen it in motion. How can you possibly make a starlet as hot as Jessica Alba look bad?
The most dissapointing thing about this is that she also wore wigs for certain scenes in FF1. Her confrontation with Johnny at the X-Games, the final battle with Doom, etc., all those were wigs. And they looked fine on her, much more natural. I doubt few even caught the change. And I appreciate the fact that the producers wanted to achieve a more consistent W.A.S.P. appeal for this actress, but they missed the mark from what I've seen now. While I love the length of the hair, the styling is formless and it doesn't flatter her at all.
We all know that Jessica Alba's sex appeal and beauty played a key role in her being hired for this role--and that's appropro considering that Susan Richards is Marvel's hottest blonde bombshell. But between Jessica's major weight loss (where are the curves? :csad: ) and this hair problem, the sex appeal has been diminished for me.
I honestly believe they've defeated their own purpose.
You need to put up the airport pics as well...thats not really a fair assessment of what it looks like....those are pretty much all the BAD PICS...there are some that are actually really good....
And this is coming from someone that has acknowledged several times.....ick on the hair....
And we actually STILL have not seen it in motion.....exactly when in the tv spot was it "in motion"?????

Look, making MJ look like a disgusting crackwhore in sm2 was blasphemy, she's supposed to be a supermodel but Sue storm aint no supermodel. Sure she's hot, has great sex appeal and falls in the top 5 comic book milfs but she still looks great to me.

I have to agree with LS, it looks too obviously like a wig. The wedding scene looked fine in the first trailer but this latest trailer...not so good. Jessica wears extensions quiet a bit so I wonder why they couldn't go with that blended with her true hair. True blondes don't have such uniform color like that wig, there's darker tones mixed in. Heck, I get my hair colored all the time and it hasn't fallen out yet.:woot:

The hair isn't the problem. It's whose head it sits on that is the real issue. Maybe if they'd cast, oh I don't know, a blonde (or at least someone who could feasibly pull off the blonde look) we wouldn't be having these discussions.
Whatevs.
As it stands though, the wig looks ridiculous in the above images.

That's not the real issue at all in my opinion.
This wig thing falls under production--costume and design. The same group of creative people responsible for the FF uniforms, Doom's mask, the Thing's suit, etc. It has nothing to do with the actors involved.
Plenty of people have had to wear wigs for their superhero roles--it goes with the territory:
Jack Nicholson--The Joker
Chris Reeve--Superman
Halle Berry--Storm
Lynda Carter--Wonder Woman
Famke Jannsen--Jean Grey
Hugh Jackman--Wolverine
Ellen Paige--Kitty Pride
Ray Park--Toad
Just to name a few. So just because they wear a wig doesn't mean it can't look convincing. Isn't Bryce Dallas wearing on for Spider-Man 3?
That's not the real issue at all in my opinion.

However, the Jack Nicolson inclusion is a little silly, unless what you're saying is that there are people with green hair in real life.
It's just a bit odd that the hair looked better in the first in the film.

Well in my opinion, she pulled it off better in the first movie. It was "redder" but at least it looked like it was living. :csad:
However, the Jack Nicolson inclusion is a little silly, unless what you're saying is that there are people with green hair in real life.
But that's not my point man. ;) They could've dyed his hair green too (punk kids do it ALL the time these days). But he didn't want to damage his hair. The same holds true for Jessica--she's naturally black-haired so to take it so light a shade was frying her hair--and she has other roles to play. So I can understand her desire to wear a wig now--and I appreciate her sacrificing so much for the first movie.
That said, the wig looking good falls on the costume designer and stylists. Also camera lighting will play a big role in it looking authentic on camera. I'm praying that this is a still from actual footage and this is how it will look in the movie:

It looked better in the first film because they used HER HAIR....this is a WIG....therein lies the problem...
She is actually naturally brown headed, not black....and for the past 5 years has actually been more toward the blonde end of the spectrum and in using honey highlights for the most part....

See, I think the blonder the hair the better. Jessica has the right complexion for it, but it needs to be tailored. With the blue eyes she looks convincing to me there. I had this pic up on my browser and one of my coworkers asked me, "Who's the white girl? A new girlfriend Caliph?" She was joking, but she didn't know it was Jessica Alba. She just thought it was some blonde chick.
So it can work, if it's done right.

It looks forced, and fake on her. Especially with those contacts that make her look like one of the Fremen from Dune (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v97/rinzai/dune1.jpg). They might as well have just allowed her to wear her hair as she usually does. I mean, if they just absolutely had to have her in the role, then let her wear her own hair. After all, if they can change Alicia to a black woman, then there shouldn't be a problem with letting Alba wear her own hair and eyes, instead of pretending (unsuccessfully) to look like a fair-haired white woman by throwing on a flat, fake-looking wig.

Anyway, it's my hope that the post production have some tricks up their sleeves to manipulate the imagery and "soften" things a bit somehow. Not that they'd use CGI for something as minute as this, but isn't there something they could apply to make her hairline look more...real?
I guess that's where the crux of my issue lies--it's not the hair color--I think it's perfect...it's the styling and roots that look weird to me. I honestly believe Jessica can carry the look convincingly--but she has to have the right people around her to make it work.

She's doubtlessly a beautiful woman, but I always wonder where casting people saw the Invisible Woman in Alba. That's a mystery.

But even if someone else were cast in the role they probably would still have to wear this wig. So the wig is the problem, not the actress. The latter is in charge of acting ability, performance, etc. That's not what we're discussing here.
We're talking about this costuming choice.

You know, being deliberately dismissive of people's complaints about the wig is another form of trolling :cwink:
Seriously, I've nothing against anyone who likes how Jess looks in this wig, or if they even think it does look convincing, that's up to them, but likewise I'd hope those same people have some respect for the opposite position of thinking this wig simply does not work well with her and looks far too fake.

Someone who is overly positive is just as bad as someone who is overly critical, IMO.
Just because it is Jessica Alba, doesn't mean you have to like EVERY single thing when it comes to her. Fair enough, you may like the hair. But even if you didn't you would probably say you did and slate people who didn't like it.
Personally, I'm dissapointed with it. Looks great in some pics and just plain terrible in others. In the TV spot it looks like she has a helmet on. :(

Nor is the thread about the casting of Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman....hence the post.....:yay:
I know, I know. It was a comment to say the whig becomes a problem specially when you have this kind of confused casting.
The same sort of thing that made Seinfeld once wonder about the use of helmets, saying:
"Why did we invent the helmet? Well, because we were participating in many activities that were cracking our heads. We looked at the situation... We chose not to avoid these activities but to just make little plastic hats so that we can continue our head cracking lifestyles."
They chose not to avoid making casting choices like that, so they have to make all those weird adjustments: blue lenses, blonde whigs and what not. :whatever:

That way you won't have to hear it looks so fake it looks so unflattering.
Nothings ever gonna please you people huh?
This is probably much stuff hasn't been released cause you people will rip it to shreads like you always do.

She did for the first movie, but because she's a natural dark brunette, she really had to strip the hair follicles to get her hair the right color. I can understand why she doesn't want to do that type of damage to her hair again. The question is, why couldn't they get a decent looking wig for her this time?

A good wig should not distract you from a movie which is why I voted disappointed because when I saw the new clip my eyes went straight to her hair I couldn't help it. The first movie I watched the actors I never gave their hair a thought but with this one you can't help but notice it, it stands out badly and doesn't compliment her the way the first movies did. They could have done better but besides that the funny thing is I don't recall people complaining about her hair so much in the first one so I don't see why they botherd to change it so much. The first movie she looked good all the time this one seems to depend on the scene some she looks good and in others she doesn't, sad really.

Well i can't say I understand about the dying process, but I would imagine it would be damaging to your hair. This is why i said just screw the blonde wig, and let Jessica have her natural color. Sure she's not a 100 percent Sursan Richards from the comics, but that wig and the contacs wouldn't be as distracting as it's making her look now. Heck Evans not even Blonde Johnny from the comics and no one's compalining.

The 4th shot is the best one of the hair (lighting is terrific) and so is the one at the wedding. In other shots Sue's hair looks either like a bad dye job or a bad wig.

I think if her hair was just straight, with no...what do you call those? Lumps? Anyway, if it was just bone-straight I think it would have looked better and more natural (like in the Airport shots).
I'm scratching my head as to who greenlit this look for her. Was it a matter of money? I'd think they'd spend a couple thousand on a few wigs for this production, but I'd expect they'd be of high quality. Especially when I look at other Marvel actresses that are also wearing wigs. Like Kirsten Dunst's "Mary Jane" character:

I don't get it either. It so obviously doesn't work well on her you do have to wonder just who gave it approval. Very strange decision for me.
In the end It looks what it is, fake as hell and (imo) it will be a little too distracting going by what we've seen. Shame really, as the first film showed they can do a passable job with the hair (ie, if you aint noticing it all the time, that means it's passable).
I also agree with other posters on the blue color for her lenses...Too dark and rich a blue to look natural (real blue eyes are usually a few shades lighter and duller)
Is this nit-picking? well, yeah, but when you know full well they could and should have done better with the look (hell, just sticking to to what they did with the first film would have been fine) it's not something that should be ignored either, especially as the make-up people have absolutely no excuse for doing such a weak job.

It's taking a lot for me to make this comment, because I think hair has been discussed WAY too much, but....
I believe it is more the middle-parting of her hair that is unflattering. If they kind of swept her hair to the side like they did in he first film, I don't think the color would be bothering evryone so much. It's a combination of the color and an unflattering part in her hair that makes it look flat and fake.

3). Jessica should have better hair
