Hahaha, if I didn't already like Coldplay, that would definitely make me re-evaluate them. :)
Downey surprises me, though. I don't know why, but I don't think I ever would've pegged him as a comic fan. Hell, I was surprised he even agreed to play Tony.

Apparently, so is Downey. I also read somewhere that Chris Martin told Gwyneth Paltrow how to act as Pepper, seeing as he's a big comic book nerd.
I wouldn't trust Chris Martin on anything.:csad:

I'm not. If he knew anything about Tony Stark beforehand, then he knew he was perfect for the role.

Chris Martin is a musical genius.

http://comics.ign.com/articles/847/847408p1.html
The weird thing is, Bendis has expressed in the past a dislike for Hank, as I understand it, but here and in his previous appearances in the series, Hank is totally nice and helpful, and Jan is a total *****.
That was a surprisingly fast-paced preview for Bendis. So far, looking good, and it'd be better if we didn't know how this ended already.

Maybe Bendis has a different idea of likability from ours. Maybe he considers Jan righteously indignant or some nonsense.

Also, Giant Woman? Not an innovation. Austen did it first.

Almost makes you long for the days of New Avengers, when he just discarded the classic Avengers and filled the roster with his fanwank characters.
That's one theory, I suppose...
Have you read Bendis' interviews? I think it's safe to say he's gotta have a different idea of what's likable. He likes himself, right? :)

Me, either. I know there's a separation between the man and the comics he writes, and he could be a genuinely entertaining, interesting person. But if the Loeb interview wound me up as much as it did and I'm usually more indifferent to Loeb's stories, I can't imagine what listening to a Bendis interview would do to me.

Because if they did that, it wouldn't be a Bendis book with super-improved Bendis Bubbles, which take the old-school thought bubble (that's banned for all the 'lesser' Marvel writers) and make them, like, 1000 times better!!!!!11

That looks horrible. (actually bags is great as always, he can draw things non-symbiotic too if no one's mentioned this to marvel). Giant girl and a pym dynamic that's painful to see. We finally get the NA/MA brawl and most of the people are symbiotes. What a terrible copout. It's the avengers recycling a terrible spider-man story from a terrible era only with unlikable characters (except Tony), and written with all the flair and tact you've come to expect from a Bendis title. Do people read this?

01-25-2008, 10:22 AM
Why is Bendis' Jan a *****?
I'm telling you, he probably doesn't think she's a *****. He probably thinks she's a wonderful, empowered woman who won't be cowed by her ex. Civil conversations between a man and a woman are totally cowing if they used to date, man. In order to be a powerful woman in control of her own sexuality, one must hate all her previous lovers.

I was on a smoke break and smoked my last one. Instead of walking across the street to get another pack I decided to see how long I could go without one. I made the mistake of telling my girlfriend that I thought I may be in the process of quitting and basically went through with it so's not to look like the nicotine addicted pussy that I am.
A couple days turned into a week, weeks into months and here I am. It sucks. I want a cigarette pretty every second of my existence, but now my mom knows that I've quit and I'd just feel terrible if I started again.
Xofenroht
01-25-2008, 03:13 PM
Yeah, my mom's dad died of lung cancer and her mother died of heart complications, which were linked to her smoking, so my smoking is a really big deal to her too.
I guess I'll just have to admit that I'll always want a cigarette, but I don't have to always have one.
Why did I even talk about this when I have one cigarette left? God is such a ****er.

01-25-2008, 03:15 PM
The fact that I legitimately enjoyed smoking doesn't help either.

As bad as movie Luthor was there was one scene in the first one that I always liked. It was after he had fired the nukes off and Miss Tessmaker (sp?) looks at him and says something to the effect of "but my mother lives in Hackensack"
And he checks his watch and just shakes his head before walking off. That was a pretty cold blooded moment.

Yea I loved that scene to, also another great moment from the movie is where superman asks Lex
"Is that how you get your kicks luthor, by planning the deaths of innocent people?" and Lex replies "No, by causeing the deaths of innocent people".
It's like my favorite Luthor superman exchange ever.

Yes. Many comic iterations do, as does the Timmverse animated version. But it'd still be nice if the movie Lex weren't so ungodly awful.
Oh, and remember "Up, Up, and Away," the first OYL arc for Superman? That was totally the retarded-ass Superman Returns Lex. When the movies exert that level of influence on the comics, I start to worry. Thankfully, Lex has been restored for the most part to his post-CoIE status quo as amoral businessman since then.

TheCorpulent1

Well, it's not like Clint knew all the details of Cap's death. Plus, I think Clint was more upset about Iron Man's trying to convince him to be the new Cap so he could use Clint as the Initiative's mascot. The only reason Tony's allowing Bucky to be Cap without registering is because of Steve's letter.

I think its pretty much we don't know yet if Doom did it, or if its just that Tony is putting the Latverian workmanship on the cask and Doom together and leaping in feet first. At this stage I believe we're supposed to think anything that happens from this point on could be something else and that not even Tony knows which is which. Is Doom responsible for the Bio attack, or has someone else done it but happened to use aterials originally constructed by a Latverian engineer in the employ of Doom? And as Tony himself said; was Natasha's change into a symbiote proof she wasnt a Skrull or a clever shapechange by the Nataskrull to make it look like she wasnt? Anything and Everything is up for debate nowadays.
On a side note - while going through his files on the Venom symbiote species there were a number of entries on symbiotes spawned by Venom or Carnage that have whereabouts unknown. Yet he didnt even consdier this might be related to one of them spawning kiddies left right and center.

Well, it kind of meshes with his own title. He's seeing hallucinations over there, and Doc Samson just theorized in the last issue that it's because Extremis is overworking his brain so much that he's essentially having dreams while he's awake. So his mind is not in the greatest shape even with mundane stuff like running SHIELD, and now he's got a Skrull invasion to worry about too.
I'm pretty sure Bendis doesn't give a ratass whats happening in Iron Man. And the whole paranoia is just because of the Skrull stuff.

That's what I mean, if they had this relationship and all that wouldn't you think she and he would kinda combine forces when they're both in the present. I mean doom almost takes over the world all the time, with morgan you'd think he could do it, save his mother from hell, and all without having to make skin suits for extra power.

TheCorpulent1
02-15-2008, 02:03 PM
That's one idea. Another point I'd bring up is the fact that, while Morgan knows all about the relationship because it's in her past, it's just taking place now in Doom's present. It's not like he would've gone out of his way to team up with her before now due to their relationship because, for all he knew, there was no relationship.

Question.
How come the symbiotes couldn't posses Ms.Marvel, Luke Cage, Ares, ect. even though in the past it took over the Silver Surfer?
?
Ms Marvel Currently totes a healing factor that was described by Hank Mcoy as so strong she's not shedding dead skin cells. This is Magnetudes higher than wolverines healing factor because while he replaces damage at the cellular level, She replaces damage at the component of cell level damage,.. The Symbiont shouldn't be able to get a toe hold on her system.
Luke Cage is Canoned to be invulnerable to a high degree - it takes an overpowered lazer to scratch his skin - If he could be infected with that kind of armor then that means someone like the Thing or Colossus could also be effected - and I can't see it.
Marvel Gods of Thor and Ares Patheons are Proof against all mundane attacks as far as infection - It's Canon,... When was the last time you saw Thor with a cold?
Wonderman is a being of solified Ionic energy - nuff said.
Silversurfer taken over by a symbiont? It would have to be A BEING and not a Virus. I expect if he were present he'd be proof against being "infected" too.
No tricks or oversights in this case.

I guess if you consider good stories a waste of time. The plot's been progressing pretty fast in the monthly comic. In a way, this was kind of the opposite of New Avengers' situation. Instead of meandering around aimlessly in the monthly series and having an annual that kicks seventeen kinds of ass, Nova's moving along briskly in the monthly and indulging in an ultimately pointless annual.

PS- the guilty parties will take it personally cuase I don't agree with there posts. But like I said, I don't agree with how Doom was treated. Am I knitpicking? I don't know but everyone has a right to their opinion on a comic board. Plus its rare I complain about anything so I'm allowed to vent.
Well Im just curious how you think he was disrespected? Obviously Sentry is stronger them doom, and obviously its no surprise that he would fall at the hands of sentry, so all the other times doom has been put to shame he was disrespected?

I hope you weren't referring to me, cuz you know Anubis don't give a rats left nut about nothing.

This issue sucked. Bendis has no idea how to write Doom. "Shut your cow-mouth?" What?

Yeah, watching Doom fall so easily was disapointing, and this arc seemed pointless. Hopefully Bendis will bring Dooms capture up for a later arc. Though that doesn't seem so promising for me, since I'm on the verge of dropping this and NA.

I'm going to wait to see how they go during SI, before I drop them. But I'm on the verge as well.

Agreed! It's just not Doom and it's rare I even complain about comics but this wasn't Doom.

No, it wasn't. Doom hasn't been Doom in awhile.
