I was gonna say that in a fair world, the oscar should go to RDJ... but in a fair world, Ledger would be still alive, so what the hell... Ledger delivered an Oscar worthy performance, not for the first time, but sadly his last one. Give him the award. But gave me RDJ nominated, goddamit!

In a fair world Heath wins this round and RDJ wins for Tropic Thunder 2!

Back on topic. While I agree Downey Jr. was fantastic in this movie, and I also love that people got the role, there's no chance in hell of him being nominated.
If Ledger is nominated I don't want him to win. He would just be winning because he is dead. The role doesn't need an award to prove how great it is.

aside from all the crybaby groups....the studio was forced to put some ******** PSA on the Tropic Thunder dvd because of that whole mess....they went 'Full Retard'

Lantern, I was more referring to people not complaining about Robert Downey Jr. wearing blackface.
The full retard thing was an extreme minority, and most people got the joke. Only a couple idiots complained about it.

I know, I got my "offended people" reference crossed up....Downey committed to it.....one of the best DVD commentaries I've ever heard...it almost makes up for 'Iron Man' having NO commentary...almost

there are 2 commentaries...one is with Stiller, one of the writers and a co-producer...the other commentary is Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Downey, Jr. in character as Lincoln Osiris(until the moment he removes the makeup), Kirk Lazarus, and then himself for the last couple minutes...

I rented this a bit cautiously but did not leave disappointed. This was a truly hilarious movie and one of the best commentaries ever! DEfinitely on my purchase list and Downey has just skyrocketed to my top 5 fave actors of all time for this.

I wasn't sure what I was going to expect of this movie before I saw it. I figured it would be either very dumb or very funny.
Well after just watching it for the first time I have to say that it was a pretty funny movie.
I found the first 30 mins of the movie to be fairly boring and not all that funny, which started to make me worried that the rest of the film would suck. But as soon as they were left alone in the jungle, it was non-stop laughs.
RDJ was great! I loved his whole "don't go full retard" monologue. Classic!
But as much as everyone mentions RDJ, I have to say that Nick Nolte and Matthew McConaughey stole this movie for me. I thought every scene they were in was a trip. Nolte's story was a a nice twist. Loved that MM was the agent who would do anything for Stiller's character.
Tom Cruise was very good as well, although not a funny as I expected, but good regardless.
The rest of the cast was fine and did their part well. Jack Black was annoying at times but not too bad.
Overall good movie.

Exactly! I'm glad you brought it up. Someone who thinks and isn't all fanboy about something.
Its like nobody gave a care before his death, Its just insane how these people act.
Oh please. :whatever:
Where the hell were you? People were raving and excited about his performance long before he passed.

I know right. God forbid he was actually nominated because of his performance.
No, no no...it's because he died. :whatever:

My brother gave me the DVD for Christmas, so I watched it for the very first time recently.
This movie surpassed any expectations I had. It's a really funny and clever movie! I loved every minute of it.
And yes, Robert Downey Jr. deserves an effin' nomination for this movie. He deserves an Oscar just as much as Heath Ledger does. You heard me.

I finally got around to seeing this last night and loved it. :D RDJ's performance is genius and Tom Cruise stole the show for me. Although many ragged on Stiller I found him at his best in a long time here and I also thought Jay Baruchel was terrific despite being practically ignored in most reviews.
Special mentions for the small but entertaining performances from Bill Hader and Matthew McConaughey, plus Nick Nolte was having some scene chewing fun.
One thing that did surprise me was what a good action director Stiller is. Here's hoping we get a spin off for Les Grossman! :hehe:

after reading people talking about the commentary, I really want to hear it. But I left the dvd at home and it's not with me at college. I'll get it back during spring break though.

Love the commentary for the film. However, somebody mentioned another commentary with a writer/producer and Ben. The only commentary the one on my DVD features is with Stiller, Black and Downey. And also, Ben mentioned a "Director's Cut", is that out yet?...

Yeah, and too be honest, I even liked Black's character. But it would've been better if he was deaf or something, because a lot of Black's humour comes from physical comedy. I loved the "Ahh... I ----in' Hate Movies" line.

Damn, I wish I saw it on shelves before I bought the copy I currently own... oh well, I'll probably rent it for that "Rain of Madness" mockumentary(which I would guess is poking fun at the 'Apocalypse Now' documentary), mainly because I'm interested in seeing more of an extended look at the character Coogan plays, considering I enjoyed what he did with the limited time he had in the film. But, all things put on the table, I'm sure that this 2-Disc DVD will be a better buy than that 2-Disc 'Dark Knight' DVD; great film, but not enough offered.

I own both the 2 disc versions of Tropic thunder and The Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder is way better, The Dark Knight 2 Disc is a rip, except the digital copy of the movie that coes with it.

Yeah Tropic Thunder is an awesome 2 disc DVD. The Dark Knight was a dissapointment, especially after the excellent SE's of Burton's, Shucmacher's and Batman Begins!

How are those I want to buy them all except for Batman & Robin?
dude love
02-20-2009, 09:32 PM
All of them are great, very in depth. Get Batman & Robin too as the extras feature a documentary and starts with Batman '89 and ends with B&R. Schumacher makes a completely insincere half assed apology, the technical stuff is all good, but without a doubt Batman Begins has the best technical features. Batman Returns has a very cool and very creepy music video by Siouxe and the Banshees. Jack Nicholson has a funny story about pimping out B'89 in the mens room at the '89 Oscars.
Considering how much bigger TDK became than all of them it's quite sad that the DVD was so half assed.

Still gotta get my Digital Copy, but does it come with all of the IMAX sequences in their original format? I heard they did that with the Blu-Ray version but I'm uncertain about the Digital Copy. And what the hell was up with the Blu-Ray version getting this 45-minute documentary and an hour's worth of featurettes while you watch the film? They did something simular with 'X-Men 1.5', only they didn't need a Blu-Ray format to fit in all of the content. I guess Warner Bros. just want their money's worth.

Certainly so, Burton's Batman DVD alone is probably my favourite. I can only hope they do something simular with the Adam West 'Batman' movie.

I gotta get the Burton/Shumacher films in the box set. Do they even have it anymore? I actually am waiting for another edition that offers more which they usually do.
Plus, how were the SF's on the BB DVD?
And yes, Tropic Thunder had much better features than TDK. Half assed as hell. A billion dollar grosser, and we got that?

I'm not sure, I bought the Single-Disc when it first came out. However, once I get a Blu-Ray player or a PS3 or whatever, I'll probably purchase the mass of movies I own, including 'Tropic Thunder'.
Also, I'm pretty sure they still have it lingering about out on shelves, because recently I bought the 'Die Hard Collection' that was released before 'Live Free or Die Hard' came out. Afterall, didn't the collection('Batman') come out in 2007?

It came out for the relaes of BB. So four years is a while.
I think they could be on Amazon though the last I checked it was on there.
It sucks, I only would like to get B89, BR, and BF but I'm wasting money for a crap film.

So true:woot:
I absolutely ~loved~ Tropic Thunder. Everyone, especially RDJ, Jack Black, and Danny McBride, had me in fits of laughter more times than I could count. It was priceless watching Kirk Lazarus' attempts at diverting Tran with broken Chinese: "Forgive me. My brain is... uh... dehydrated. I need electrolytes for my pea-brain which is... constipated." Priceless. It was the eyes. And T.C. was a pleasant surprise. I'd forgotten about his being a competent actor in the midst of his antics.
And I whatever-number-th the love for the commentary.
