I was hanging around Bats in Garage B most of the night. I will second the guy-in-robe thing. There was a real batman and a couple of robe guys actually. Even from our distance, there was a remarkable difference between the length and sheen of the fabrics. And Bats might be being modest, But we stayed out till they wrapped (5ish), and he slept in his car to make up for it. A round of applause everyone.

Hey there! Actually I drove back home, took a 5-10 min. nap, got ready & went to work via train. I was worried I'd be dozing off heavily driving home from work if I stayed. I'm overloading on caffeine at work now.
Garage B is pretty decent if you like general activity. Like I said we couldn't see that good but it was good enough. Garage A is ideal except for worrying about security kicking you out. I think they left us alone since we're far enough away from the set to send someone over. They lazy. :woot:

Friday, June 21, 2007, 7:13 AM CENTRAL TIME:
AICN has posted a cool -- and spoiler-free -- report of TDK's shoot in Chicago. It's a tad dated, but cool nonetheless and includes some pretty cool pics of Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gyllenhaal...
"The Goon" was back overnight. From what he told BOF, BATMAN #1 -- which featured the first appearances of The Joker -- CLEARLY is an influence on TDK...
The latest "Bat-Poll" -- "Your take on the new Bat-Suit in THE DARK KNIGHT?" -- results are as follows (based on approx 2,100 votes): 68% thinks it "Kicks Ass," 27% are waiting until they see it on screen before deciding, and 4% thinks "It SUCKS." Make sure you go to the MAIN PAGE and vote on the new poll (re: "The Batpod")...
I've got something coming for y'all that's REALLY cool -- although I can't say much about it right now. But be looking for it a bit down the line here at BOF...
I'm sure that there will be more TDK later, so stay tuned!

As I think about it more, a gang of thug is more believeable from Chechnya than the Czech Republic. Chechnya is f'd up and its even current public knowledge.

The official photographer for the movie told us that first pic of the Joker was by someone named Wally, and it was for the first makeup test. He said he took WAY more of Joker after that, and they are better photos and we should start getting some in the coming months. The dude went onto absolutely PRAISE Ledger's characterization. Even went on record to say it will blow away Nicholson's. He said it is THAT memorable. Everyone on set was giddy when talking about Ledger. Said he's being truly innovative, and down right creepy with this role. They also mentioned how terrifying he looks on the set in costume. And he will have black eyes, this was confirmed.
this is without doubt the best stuff i have read on here in ages.

Dent's tie is quite purple-ish, as well. It seems half likely that The Joker absconds with them, which seems strange, but I suppose it's better than The Joker wearing no purple at all.

^the first pic it still looks a little lavender, the second pic hes wearing a blue trench.
The lighting is poor in that it doesn't show the true color of the outfit that well.
I know he's wearing different clothes in those pics. They were put together to how one color can seem like the other (with the 1st pic showing how blue can look purple-y in that light).

Hi guys, I'm one of the 'ladies from DC' and myself and two friends of mine had the privilege of being there last night in Garage B with some fellow fans, all of whom were really cool and friendly and one even brought us cookies!
It was a great night, saw the explosion being discussed here as well as the Batman stand in and some gun fights from under neath the roof.
We left about 4am and the tumbler was blown up about 5am I think. We're heading back out there tonight and hopefully they will still be filming.
I really, really hope The Joker has more scenes to film this weekend, maybe Sunday night? Saturday? If anyone knows, please drop me a line here!

Here's some of the dog stuff from the night before last, it was in another thread
And let me add my two cents as well! Tomorrow I will post video of the scene that was being filmed, and the guy rappelling.
The prisoner was a young-looking man, probably early twenties, pretty small... not tough looking at all. They had a gun to his head and then threw him to the ground. One of the 'toughs' had two vicious dogs with him, a rottweiler looking one and a Doberman, I believe. The lead tough was a guy with slicked-back black hair, thick goatee, and wearing a brown leather jacket. He screamed 'mob' to me, but I'm not sure of his ethnicity. The others with him seemed like hired muscle.
Our lead 'tough' was talking directly to the camera for a good bit of dialogue, seemingly becoming more aggitated as the scene went on. They filmed this several times, and then when they filmed it again there was gunfire, as apparently his group was being shot at. They retreated back towards their vehicles after the first shots rang out. For that particular run, the door to one of their vehicles was removed and replaced with one that simulated the effects of gunfire hitting it.
The guy rappeling I believe is a Batman rehearsal because on the last time the stuntman rehearsed it, as he rappeled in he landed on the 'lip' of the lower floor, and kicked toward the head of another stuntman who was standing there. It'll look very cool!
More news of note:
* A gentleman I talked to told me that he saw Cillian Murphy on set, where he had just filmed. He was in full costume, (suit and carrying burlap mask), and had white powder on the shoulder of his suit (fear gas effect?) This man said that the Scarecrow has a gang, and that they are confronting the gang that I saw being filmed (I believe he said they were a European gang, Czech maybe? I can't remember fully).
* Two young women I talked to have a friend who is a PA who said that tomorrow will be a more interesting night of filming.
* Batman will supposedly fight the dogs that were onset and part of the scene I saw being filmed.
* A nice couple from Alabama who were in on business told me that Christian Bale is staying on the floor beneath theirs at their hotel. I'm not bothering to say which one out of respect for his privacy.
Cowleen, I feel like I saw you, but I didn't talk to you =/ I was wearing a gray shirt, had a backpack with me and was filming most of the time ;)
Similar account to Cowleen-
I got down there at about 11:30pm I want to say and wandered into the first parking garage I saw which happened to be the one the set is located on top of, however, no security. That is, until I got a couple floors up and turn the corner and there are Tumblers staring straight at me, all 4 of them. As I reached for my camera though security came by and kicked us out.
From there we proceeded to the parking garage on Franklin which has absolutely no security in it and you can get a clear view of the set. Though, you are pretty far away and the side the Batsignal faces Wells. As we were in this garage, I noticed groups of people in the garage on Wells st, so we ran over there to get a better view. Although, none of these people were there when we snuck inside which makes me think security did a round.
On the Wells st. garage you get an amazing view at the set, one that makes you almost guilty for being so close...almost. There we were able to see batsignal, though not lit, a guy in a trench coat with a gun, the dogs we have been told about and someone who sure looked like they were wearing a Batman-esque costume. The scene they were filming was pretty much inside the garage making almost impossible to get a clear view of the action going on and as we went to lower levels of the garage security found us and kicked us out.
In the end, nothing entirely new, but enough to get me hyped!...

Ok we walked around all day (you all saw some of the pics, like trailers. Ill post em all in a sec.
Got to the Tall garage right next to the set at about 11pm. Me and my gf first stood for about 10 minutes with the big crowd of people. Thats when the two security guards came and started SCREAMING at people to leave basically. Thats when we went up a floor and parked my jeep right on the edge. Stupid kids kept coming up sometimes (and some drinking lol threshold) luckily the went down. TIP: DONT BE ON FOOT, THEY CAN F*ING SEE YOU AND THATS WHEN THEY SEND SECURITY UP. Anyways, and they cant kick you out of a car. My tools were my digital camera and my binoculars, in which I used as my telephoto lens for my camera lol. You'll see the videos soon.
Now what happened:
I left right after Bats showed up. I knew we werent going to see much and I couldnt stay out that late. Anyways, we were there from around 11pm to 2am. At the beginning they filmed the rest of the Scarecrow/van scene with the group of about 5 euro thugs. Didnt see Scarecrow though, unless he was inside the back of the van the whole time.
Scenes the filmed (most of which I captured on vid):
*Euro thugs running towards the back of the van, pistols and submachines gun blasting
*Euro thugs stumbling as a group away from the van, maybe swatting at something, almost like they just got gassed.
*the main euro thug (brown leather coat, red shirt) behind the sedan, aiming his pistol around the top of the car and shooting (close ups)
The Biggy *The main thug standing in front of the sedan aiming pistol at back of van when BAM the sedan explodes!!!
Then firefighters rushed in, put it out. Then the bat characters started showing up. Man the stunt bats was big. His suit looked padded and he was like a foot taller than everyone else. The started putting down big blue pads when we left.
My videos are uploading. The car explosion is my favorite. I was looking through the binocs with my camera filming when it exploded. I dropped the binocs and got all the flames with my normal zoom. Sorry lol but I guess I didnt get the HUGE EXPLOSION coming up memo lol. Thats probably why they kicked out all those onlookers right next to the set, their eyebrows would have been seared lol. Im uploading onto youtube now btw

06-22-2007, 06:12 PM
Also of note lol, the set garage is right next to an elevated train track. A train came by like every 3 minutes. There was a guy watching to let them now when the train had passed so they could start the scenes

Hey Hunter. What about posting an announcment that all new info, pictures and videos get a new thread, and then in one week you merge them into their appropriate thread?
It's getting a little confusing and daunting to look in ALL the major threads for new stuff.
And to try and keep the board traffic down, merge the speculation threads(like the new freaks&mobsters thread) immediately into a major thread.
Would any of that work?

Well it would depend on context, certainly an official pic would get it's own thread to start off with except the Bat pod b/c it already had a thread for it ,i'd say for the posters to use their judgment.....someone gets some clear pics of the Joker on set that's a new thread for sure but something like a bunch of photos of lighting rigging isn't worth a new thread
some spec threads can be merged into bigger topics yes,i do that with a lot of the minor joker threads, the one you mentioned seems a kind of fresh topic for discussion for now so i am not sure there is a specific thread it would fit into......as more topics on the overall mob war theme pop up I'll make combine them into a "Mob War discussion" thread

WHy are you worried about your pictures all over the net?

Maybe because he risked the skin on his nut-sack to get them, and doesn't want people taking credit for it?

Greg: glad you found your camera!
I just got back from the set, I was there from about 9:45 until 12:45am. I was there with Cowleen until we got evicted from Garage A by the overzealous, large security guard who kicked Cowleen and co. out the night before. I really don't like this guy and I really, really wish anyone with ties to Chicago PD or even some lawyers could weigh in on this.
Tonight it was "can't take pictures of people without their consent", and when we did not immediately leave his partner went behind our parked cars and started to radio in our license plate numbers, and told us that he was calling in the squad cars. Well, we were able to leave unhassled, but the threat bugged me and I'd really, really, really love some insight to the legalities of this whole thing.
That unpleasantness aside, it was overall an uneventful night for what we saw. The black screens were up limiting our view of a lot of stuff. However we did see some interesting stuff:
Cillian Murphy, sans mask, was sitting right outside of the black screen talking to Christian Bale. I have several clear pictures of Murphy and will post them tomorrow. I didn't get any FANTASTIC pictures of Bale, but he was in the Begins Batman suit, minus cape and cowl. I have several pictures of him from the back, and a few in profile, where you can see the heavy black makeup around his eyes: preparation for putting on the cowl!
Buster Reeves was also spotted and photographed, also with black around the eyes for the cowl.
Several fake Batmen in various states of costume were seen and photographed. Some were without masks, and the front of their costumes were fairly nondescript, with the chest piece resembling a kevlar vest / swat uniform vest rather than Batman's design. I do not know if they were all different Batmen, or a combination of stand-ins and stuntmen.
During a small break in filming, two or three COWLED fake Batmen came out from behind the black curtain. The cowl seemed very similar, except that the nose was much more elongated, and in at least one the eyes of the cowl looked more like raised goggles (think Dr. Octopus-ish) rather than set-in. They were definitely not Batman stunt costumes from what I could tell. Again, I have pictures of these and will post tomorrow.
At about 12:30 all of the camera positioning was shifted to the left side of the garage, away from behind the black curtains, which were dropped, revealing the white van from yesterday and the Tumbler! The Tumbler backed up into the garage, taking up position in front of a semi-smashed white car that it had seemingly driven over when it came through the fake wall earlier in the week. The white van that the Scarecrow came out of was then pulled up infront of the Tumbler, and from the angle they were at it looked like the Tumbler would race forward and smash into the side of the van.
Of course before we could see what happened the security a-hole reared his ugly head.
Anyways, tomorrow look for pictures and a video or two of Murphy, Bale, Reeves, the fake Batmen, and the Tumbler setting up position for whatever they were going to film. Maybe someone who stayed later will know what happened.

Yeah im glad i found my camera too! I will def be posting them in a bit.
I agree about that security guard, he kicked us out thurs night and was very rude. what authority does he have to kick us out? I would aparked my car there but it was very expensive and i already parked down the street. what right do they have to kick us out?
Bale was there?? that's huge! i dont believe he was there on wed or thurs. i woulda tried to get his and murphys autograph (since i only got nolan's).
What exactly were they filming? did bale fight murphy or what happened?
U're so lucky to be there. I will return in late july. maybe we can meet up.

What I want to know is ------ all the scenes they are filming now ( in chicago ) are there other crew and locations that are being filmed else where ( in London, in the studio, etc ... ) at the same time ?
Or do they / are they filming everything one scene at a time ?

they're supposed to go back to London, so they're probably setting up everything so once the main crew gets there they can shoot without wasting any time. I think there were a handful of city shots in Begins that were done by the second unit, or the graphics company that did the kick ass cg for Gotham/Narrows.

I really don't think he'd appreciate that. Besides, those garages are private property.
I'm not saying they are right, but if everybody there could keep their mouths shut while they're there then none of this would have happened...

If you look to the left of my photo, near the man wearing white's right elbow, what appears to be a clown-type mask is visible. It has a wide grin and a button nose.
Another stuntman there early Friday morning had morpheus-style glasses on. I have no idea who he was standing in for
