I'm so excited. This is going to be a great year. :batty:

If you guys do meet up, perhaps you could communicate with cell phones. It might help to coordinate your efforts a little, or even let each other know if you've got something good. Just a suggestion. :yay:

I'm 99% sure i'm going tonight as well... I wish someone who was there this afternoon can report what they saw. Last time they only filmmed at dark and didn't start til 10-11pm chicago time. Wondering if the big stunt tonight will be late like that.

If someone who is going to be on the board tonight wants, go ahead and PM and I'll send you my cell number - I'll call with info from the scene and you can post to the community. I'm NOT giving my number to someone with under 350 posts - I know that sounds ****ty, but I don't want crank calls.

EDIT: I've only got about 1 more hour on this connection, so make it snappy.

April 18, 2007

Scoopers 'Joel R. and 'Shaun R.' have sent in more photos (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/../news/topnews.php?id=5522#) of the post office set for The Dark Knight in Chicago. You can view them below.

Meanwhile, 'NJS' sent an update on his previous scoop (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/../news/topnews.php?id=5503):

This did take place that evening. However, I found out from my buddy the next day, (the guy actually doing the stunt), that Monday night was just rigging and testing. He did (3) tests Monday on the stunt where he flew over Van Buren Street 20-stories above the deck on a cable and landed on the roof of a building ...this will be a major action scene.

Filming For New Batman Movie Begins Today

CHICAGO (STNG) -- Batman is back in town and he’s hanging out on Van Buren Street.

Mayor Daley announced Wednesday that "The Dark Knight", the next installment of Warner Bros. Pictures' Batman movie series is doing six days of pre-production filming in the city, starting Wednesday afternoon.

"I am very excited that Warner Bros. has decided to return to Chicago. And the City, through the efforts of our Chicago Film Office, is ready to assist in making sure production runs smoothly with little to no inconvenience to our residents," Daley said in a release. "The film industry is important to Chicago because it strengthens our economy and creates jobs."

The pre-production schedule includes interior filming April 18-20 and exterior work April 21-24, including helicopter work Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, according to the release. Van Buren Street between Canal and Wacker will be closed during exterior filming; parking restrictions are also be in effect; and some CTA rerouting will be necessary.

The pre-production filming of technical shots in Chicago is in advance of principal photography scheduled to take place in London this May, the release said. The movie company will return to Chicago in June and continue filming throughout the summer, predominantly in the Downtown area.

"The Dark Knight" is being directed by Christopher Nolan from a screenplay by Jonathan Nolan. The film, being produced by Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan, is slated for release on July 18, 2008.

Warner Bros. shot a portion of the first film in the series, "Batman Begins," in Chicago during the summer of 2004.

"The filmmakers found their experience here went so well that they have not only returned to film "The Dark Knight," but they have also increased the filming schedule, citing the look of Chicago, the support of the City, the State incentives and the quality of the filmmaking community," Rich Moskal, director of the Chicago Film Office, said in the release.

A very good friend of mine is a stuntman working on the new Batman film currently on location in Chicago. He is playing the role of one of Joker's clown goons who robs the "Gotham National Bank" set-up inside the old post office. The clown escapes by crashing through a nearby high rise 20th-floor gliding across the city on a cable to the 9th floor of Chicago's Union Train Station
http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/626/stuntsq7.jpg

Have I got this right? A zipwire from the post office in the bottom right to the station in the top left? That's a hell of a long way. Has this been setup and dismantled now? Haven't seen anyone talking about it

Matt Stratton
04-18-2007, 02:11 PM
I work in the building just north of the post office (the kind of s-shaped glass one), and we haven't seen any of the zip line this week. I would think I would have noticed it, since it would have gone right across the spot where I am outside having cigarettes at least five times a day.

I'm also a little confused, since he says that the goon escapes from the bank by crashing through the window of a high rise into the train station. That doesn't quite make sense to me.

Luckily for me, i was able to catch a glimpse of Nolan in a window more than once. Also i got a glimpse of someone shooting a shotgun and running while the camera guy is running with him. Luckily for me, i was able to catch a glimpse of Nolan in a window more than once. Also i got a glimpse of someone shooting a shotgun and running while the camera guy is running with him. I was able as well to see some random dude wearing aomse sort of clown mask above his head. So yea, it was pretty awesome except the fact the gaurds didnt let anyone take pics....

Cool report, thank you.

The filming through Sat to Tuesday is exterior, so the guards won't be able to do much about people taking pictures then methinks.

wait, so Bale's trailer is in Chi-Town.... and Nolan and Ledger have both been sighted?

That means Nolan, Bale, and Ledger are ALL in Chicago this week??!?

I reckon a very significant action scene involving Batman vs. Joker is being shot as we speak.

Think about that in your head... they're filming a live action Batman/Joker scene RIGHT NOW... at this very moment.

I have been hired as an extra and also a driver for a scheduled shoot on Tuesday, April 24th. It will be in chicago. I will no more by monday as to when and where. The filming will all be exterior and closed set. They will be filming for over 12 hours. Extras are asked to dress in fall/winter outfits and bring 3 outfits: 2 business and 1 casual along with a pair of boots and shoes. They have stressed no talking (chit chat) with actors or the director. Of course no cell phones, cameras, etc... everyone who has one on the set that day will have their cell phones locked in a safe untill filming is done for the day.

who says that. i wouldnt assume bruce and his girls getting all wet in the hotel lobby if the weather wasnt appropriate...but maybe my point is a little far-fetched.
But also the sunny shot of Gotham and the ending sequence at Wayne Manor point to a late summer setting. Winter, fall or spring would have looked different imo :o

Exact Dark Knight Chicago Filming Dates

April 18, 2007

NBC (http://www.nbc5.com/entertainment/12403161/detail.html?dl=headlineclick) has a new report on The Dark Knight filming in Chicago:

Mayor Richard Daley announced Wednesday that "The Dark Knight," the next installment of Warner Bros. Pictures' Batman movie series, is doing six days of pre-production filming in the city starting Wednesday afternoon.

Pre-production filming? This means this isn't footage that will be in the final film, right? Could explain why Ledger had no make-up yesterday.

04-19-2007, 05:07 AM
Pre-production filming means this is footage not using main actors. Perfect example is Spidey 2 train squence...well the ext shots. Also can be like the footage of the monorail in Begins. They filmed that with no cars on the streets or people, just to use it as a setting footage, usually Pre-Production filming is for CGI needed material.

On CLTV last night I saw them do a news story on teh filmming...they shows a car rigged with a camera and a few short shots of the area they were filmming at. They focused inside one of the cars and there was a dark-haired girl sitting in one of them. It didn't look like Maggie to me...but it might have been.

I was in a bar so I was unable to hear the story...I went to the website for CLTV and they have nothing posted in the news storys section. They might run the story again in chicago...so fellow Chicagoans keep an eye out. WGN also runs some of the same stories...so keep your eyes open.

I think what that is refering to is that yesterday a few guys from the forum went down to the set and took a lot of sweet pictures, which are posted in the gallery. Yeah, the Chicago Public Library is an amazing piece of architexture. Literally right down the street from my school. However, I didn't hear any news about them filming there. it was said here:
http://www.comics2film.com/b/index.php?blog=14&title=dark_knight_set_report_chicago_post_offi&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

A guy I work with just got back from a run and said that the post office downtown here, in Chicago, is currently Gotham Hall (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1418197785?ie=UTF8&tag=c2f_blogs-20&link_code=em1&camp=212341&creative=380621&creativeASIN=1418197785&adid=911e73c4-542c-4205-95f5-2a8e29d7eada).

My source told me that there are about 15 cherry pickers all shining high beams through the windows, maybe preparing for a night shoot. He didn't see any "Gotham" signs or alterations to the building but he did say there was a huge load of drapes as well.
Also of note, according to a security guard, they are doing a public shoot down there on Saturday.
Look out for something possibly happening around the Library this weekend as well, which I can't believe wasn't featured in the first film. It has these HUGE gargoyles on every corner of the building!

it doesnt give any prove but anyways if its near your school you could ask someone in there if they'd know something...well if you wouldnt feel too nerdy:oldrazz:

They're definitely gearing up for the exterior shots down at the "bank" - workers are "distressing" the metal on the "Gotham National Bank" lettering, and they're painting faux marble finish on the doorframes on Van Buren.

Also, and I'm not sure about it, the school bus no longer seems to be visible inside the bank. They might have moved it - or it could have been the angle I was at.

A Slice of Heaven
April 20th, 2007

This afternoon my wife and I had the rare treat of getting a permit review with the City of Chicago on an addition we’re putting on the house. A slice of heaven, let me assure you. More about the addition anon.

As we returned we saw them filming the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight, over at Lane Tech. I think we may have caught a glimpse of Morgan Freeman.

One of the local network affiliates announced they would have a feature this evening on the filming. I’ll add some pictures if I can find any. It was quite an operation.

Source: http://www.theglitteringeye.com/

NOTE: I think Freeman is more than likely in Chicago for the filming of Wanted which is also lensing in the windy city.

Visiting the Set of "The Dark Knight"

This week, they've started filming in downtown Chicago a scene for "The Dark Knight," the "Batman Begins" sequel (Filming is scheduled to move to London next week and return in the summer). They tried to keep things under wraps, but I got a hold of some information regarding the filming, so Ski and I went to check it out the other night. Gotham City is meant to be experienced after sundown, after all.

The Chicago post office has been transformed into "GOTHAM NATIONAL BANK" - brass letters have been attached to the side of the building, labelling it as such. Walking down the street, you'd never notice it unless you looked up - but that's part of the magic of it. Because if you do look up, there's absolutely no reason not to believe that you actually are in Gotham City. It doesn't stand out because it looks natural.

Inside the bank, we could see a school bus through one of the windows. (How they got it inside the building is beyond me). One of the exterior walls of the building has been artificially extended into a nearby lot, creating a realistic-looking "fake" wall, presumably so that the bus can crash through it, as a prelude to a Joker bank robbery.

I tried to take some pictures, but both sets of batteries were completely drained of power (having just recharged them!). So, dissapointingly, I don't have any pictures - but I did take a souvenir. Around the area are fliers posted, announcing street closures between 6 AM and 9 AM for filming of scenes for "Rory's First Kiss."

Because Americans are just that stupid. They see "Gotham National Bank," then a flier announcing "Rory's First Kiss," and think that they're filming a chick flick, not the next Batman movie. Maybe Katie Holmes has her own Gotham City spinoff! (****ing *****. What? Batman's not good enough for you, lady?)

Anyway, I took one of the fliers, and it's now posted on the outside of my door.

There were a lot of security guards hiding out, so that you didn't see them until they popped out at you at the last second and you were too close to avoid them. This prevented us from going inside the set (which I heard looks real nice).

The plan was to attend the early filming and be extras in the movie. We were going to dress up in nice dress suits (as if were were in a bank), so we'd stand out when they asked for extras. We also found out where the crew was parking (they reserved a garage next to the set), so we were going to park there late at night and sleep/work in the car for a few hours until the crew arrived. Then we'd just walk onto the set with them from the garage, as if we were supposed to be there. And even if that didn't work out, we'd at least get to see the scenes being filmed (with the Joker. And explosions. And guys getting kicked out the windows by Batman.).

It turns out that Dodd-Mead is comprised of mostly flakes. Everyone who had a car and wanted to go said they would go. And then they all pulled out at the last second. (Because most guys here would rather sit on their lazy ass and get their dick sucked then actually get up and do something meaningful with their day).

This left Ski and I completely screwed over. Filming ended this morning (and won't be back till June, at which point security will be 10 times as intense, as the filming will be much more public). Furthermore, I've heard that Chris Nolan (the director) was on the scene, meaning it was an important scene, not some 2nd-unit crap. And most importantly, I've heard that Heath Ledger was there for the filming AS THE JOKER! With armed clown robbers! Carrying and firing Uzis! As the people in the bank screamed!

So we missed that. It was the chance of a lifetime - to be in the Batman movie! (It's probably going to be the best Batman movie ever. Seriously).

We'll try again in the summer (Ski better have his car then). But chances are much more slim.Source Link (http://frakkingoff.blogspot.com/)

Someone saw Ledger on the set with Joker makeup allegedly. This was posted 2 days ago so it's before the leaked AICN pics hit the web. The report seems to match with what we've seen in the pic....

2007-04-21 02:36 am UTC

A buddy of mine ran into him, the joker that is, earlier today. Here's how he described him:

holy s*** - did he looking ****ing gross. His skin was all like gray and scarred? and I wasn't all that close so I couldn't tell if his mouth was bleeding or if his mouth just wasn't exactly in the right place or the right shape. and his hair was like a green that you could only call a sick green and almost to his shoulders...

In summary he looked a lot more like a nutjob who got dropped in a vat of acid and looked a tiny, tiny bit like a clown and decided to go with it than someone who got dropped in a vat of acid and somehow wound up looking exactly like a clown.

Supposedly there are pics of him on the net as well.Source: http://community.livejournal.com/chicagochat/468939.html

Monday April 23rd Set Report

I was there between 8am and 3pm today.

Extras were brought out of the post office dressed in business attire, perhaps in the area of 20 people. They were joined on Van Buren in front of the post office by more extras in cars.

The helicopter tried to come in but it was just too windy and it was on scene less than five minutes before leaving.

The extras milled about for awhile, then ran thru their movements in the cars before all the cars were pulled to either side of the street and the extras all gathered on the stairs, where they were then led inside the post office. This was around 9am, and they would not reemerge until after 3pm.

In the building across from the post office where the zipline originates, they were filming inside for almost two hours, though very little was visible. Occassionally a line was shot out of the window, fell down the building and was then pulled up.

Around 11 Christopher Nolan and about 8 people following him came out of the building and went into the post office. After they left a large camera was removed from that building, followed by about 8 carts of equipment, leading me to believe they are done filming the interiors for the big cross.

Something of note: two stunt men (I'm guessing) walked right by me on the way to the building. Each of them had a clown mask in a clear plastic bag. They were different than the other masks because they were soft, not hard. When I saw actors carrying them in the suburban, they seemed like hard plastic that mainted their shape. These masks were rubbery (though they looked the same style), and in fact one of them was folded nearly in half!

Between 8am and 3pm I am 98% certain that no human went across the zipline. My 2% uncertainty comes from the short times I was not able to see it (due to moving positions).

The wall is coming along: 4 doors were added to it, and after I left at 3pm my friend who stayed behind told me that a school bus (not the one inside the post office, but another one) was BACKED into the door frame, where it just barely fit.

After this the extras reemerged, the helicopter returned, and a street scene was shot 8 to 10 times, whenever the helicopter came by. Each time the helicopter went by, a black 'bag' looking object was sent across the zipline, but no person. On the last two runs the extras were reacting to (pointing at) the school bus in the fake wall section.

The extras left around 4:40, and construction on the wall resumed, with them building the wall around the bus that was parked partway through it.

More filming will be tomorrow!

Nice work Spiral, appreciate it. Do you get the feeling the bus stunt could be tomorrow? Any piccys?

Well, thats a tricky question. Let me explain why:

1) I am completely convinced that all the time wasted by the winds not allowing the helicopter to be around (we're talking 6 hours here) has thrown off some scheduling. They are only originally scheduled to have the helicopter filming tomorrow, and Wednesday is supposed to be the last day of production in Chicago. But could they be all done with what they need, based off the delays? I couldn't tell you.

2) All along we have been going on the assumption that there is going to be a dramatic crash through these doors. Well.... there is a a somewhat high concrete ledge infront of where the platform is. The kind that seems like it'd be hard to go over at great speed. When they backed the bus into it today it was said to be very slow, and just barely clear. Would it clear if it was going very fast and jumped from hitting that bump?

I don't know. Not knowing whether they are done with the wall yet, it is hard to say exactly what is going to happen or when. Tomorrow will be a telling day just because it is the last of the originally scheduled helicopter window (Though they don't necessarily have to shoot the bus with the copter, they might only be doing the zipline.)

Now that I read back, I see that I just said at great length that I don't know any more than anyone else =P

(http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=chicago&sid=breitbart.com)CHICAGO (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=chicago&sid=breitbart.com) (AP) - Fire broke out on the roof of the city's vacant former post office Tuesday where a movie crew had been filming scenes for an upcoming "Batman" sequel.

Fire department spokesman Kevin MacGregor said a building engineer suggested the fire might have started in the ventilation system. He didn't know of any injuries. At least a dozen ambulances and fire trucks were at the scene, just south of Chicago's downtown business loop. MacGregor said it was unclear if the fire was related to the filming.

That's probably a result of the tinted windows in my building and the fact that they are from my camera phone. The smoke was very white. At first we thought it was just smoke and pyrotechnics, but then they cleared the scene and moved vehicles up the street. Not too long after that the Chicago Fire Department trucks started rolling up.

Oh and btw = i'm betting dollars to paso's that the "black figures with grappling hooks that could be joker ninjas" are the Batmen Vigilantes that we read about in the sides. Works IMO, because bats would never be out in the day in the live action movies. But a bunch of gimmick stealing vigilanties could. And would explain why joker has to make a rush out of the bank so suddenly and have a grudge against them and Batman if they keep hindering his plans.

I've been hesistant to say this thus far, just because I didn't know if the guy was just talking.

However I can tell you that a crew member has said that the stuff being filmed is indeed for a trailer.

Now...does that mean just for a trailer, or for the trailer as well as being part of the movie? Who's to say.

It sounds like a very costly endeavor for JUST a teaser trailer though.

2.) doesn anyone know what scenes they'll be shooting in the hangar in London and would Ledger be there?
3.) does anyone know what Ledger's next project will be after TDK and when that is supposed to start?

because like many others i couldnt understand why the stop&go filming for Chicago. unless of course, their shooting this out of sequence and they're doing all of Ledger's parts first so that he be free ASAP to move on to his next project?

Well, for number 1: Seeing as how they are shooting here for 3 to 4 months, I imagine a majority of the cast will be here.

For number 2: I'm not certain, but I feel like I read somewhere that there is a gigantic set of "the Narrows" that was not dismantled after Batman Begins wrapped up. If that set is still there, I imagine they will be using that. Also, perhaps the Batcave is there as well?

hmm, good point. so if th Narrows is in London then Ledger has got to be there. thats the whole point of letting the crazies out right? they have to cover some Joker time in Arkham.

there's something bothering me about what i heard around here months back, that the Joker wouldnt be as much seen as he is heard or implied, hence the initial report that Joker isnt really the "main" villain. i dont know if things has changed since then, but if they havent, then we shouldnt really expect Ledger to be around production too long, specially if they'll be shooting out of sequence and getting all his stuff done first.

Somebody mentioned that Joker might have wig or something, and now that he said it it makes perfect sense! Think about it, if he were going to disguise himself in front of his goons, then wouldn't it automatically be implied that, if he covers his face to hide his identity, that if he didn't do something about his green hair then that is just as obvious to give him away? He goes in with brown hair, and he seems to leave in the bus with green. Hmm....making a lot of sense there!

That does indeed make sense. I don't remember anyone saying anything about a wig, though.

I only said it 5 posts ago lol. Its the best I can come up with, still confused about the bit of green in Ledger's hair though. If its there it must be for a reason, its been days since Ledger had the full makeup on. Maybe its a hint that it's Joker under the mask or something.

Well, the mask looks like it goes over hal the head, so it might cover that.

I didn't even remember where your post was, I was looking like 2 pages back.:woot:

Anyways, I think you are onto something here, and it just wouldn't make sense that if everyone knows darn well who he is, then he just wouldn't wear a mask and leave his hair green if he wanted to keep his identity hidden.

I notice in the pics of Ledger with the mask on it does cover up the neon streaks.

There's definately bits of green showing on the back. Maybe Joker has time to take a shower inside the bank :woot: Kind of puzzled why he'd want to reveal his hair at all

But this is out in the sun, perhaps on film the green will be too light to even see? I don't know, but it just seems logical seeing as how he goes in with brown hair, and comes out with green hair. Not to mention the fact that, if he wants to trick everyone into thinking he is a goon, he wouldn't be walking around with green hair, an obvious give away of the Joker.

All because you have no idea how film production works

doesn't mean you're calling anything

your name should be "Merily" Ducard instead of Simply right?

PS - SEMI-SHOCKING TO ME AT LEAST:

Did anyone watch the "compilation video" on the SHH main page? When in the blue hell did we get footage of the zipline/rooftop power supply stuff!? How the hell did I not see that before!? Or is this new to everyone?

Yeah, it's new. It's pretty cool stuff. Now that we know where the zipline comes into play, there's just a few more questions about this apparently very hectic, crazy bank robbery scene.

It's mostly just how the hell the bus gets there. Joker and goons pull up in a suburban, more goons zipline to the roof to take out the power or something, then they all escape in a bus parked through the wall.

One things for sure, the "brian" theory is out the window, err off the building so to speak. As crazy comic booky as this sounds now, maybe theres another thing in the bank being sought out by the Joker. Like the actually robbery is a side plot or something. Idk, this shoot has been so crazy that I have no idea what the hell is going on story wise lol. They've definatly nailed the Joker, because even we can't figure this **** out. I have no goddamn idea how Batman is gonna lol.

PS: I'm gonna go look for it now, but does anyone have the zipline video w/o the music because I'm 100% positive i heard a crazy laugh as they go streaming across, but I'm not sure if it's that or "crowd reactions from below"

PPS: Wouldn't it be funny if in the final film we see pictaker on the ground with his camera phone? lol

Ahahahahahaha, wow. Great mentality from someone with 4 posts. See why I hate n00bes? Yeah I said it. Actually I *do* know how film productions work seeing as I'm in film school there buddy. I've taken classes on pre-production that teach you industry standards on how to schedule efficiently and to save money. Not to mention, it's almost obvious common sense that's what's going on. Not trying to be hostile, but you have no idea about me so why don't you keep your smart remarks to yourself?

Its probably nothing, but I share your suspicions too Anjow. In one of the pics after that clip it looks as if one of the thugs is shooting the other. Seems like something the Joker would do.
