I didn't get a chance to get down there last night, but my friend who lives there said it was more of the same from friday but also more heli's (3 I think he said) and a person or persons coming from the helicopters. I think I will watch from his place on the 48th floor across the street from site..
Be sure that if ANYONE goes to the Construction Site Tonight, to be on the LAKE/EAST side of the building. If they do the same stunt (guys falling off building) then you'll need to be on the LAKE/EAST side to see it. Don't stand on McClurg because it's on opposite side of the action. Head closer to Lakeshore/Navy Pier (just not ALL THE WAY to Lakeshore/Navy Pier). :cwink:
Otherwise, if you stay on the WEST side, all you'll see is a helicopter. AGAIN, that's IF it's the same action I saw.
FYI: I walked past the Construction Site today and everything is still there:
--Light Tower Trucks
--Typical Set Trailers
--Wardrobe on hangers (Gotham Police, I noticed for "Ryn" & "Cory")
--Lights on tripods inside Construction Site & Lights pointing at nearby Apartment buildings & parking lots
--Platform and Safety Mats on outside of upper floors of Construction Building (to protect stuntmen from smacking building)
PLEASE ... ANYONE with good cameras ...
SHOOT OR VIDEOTAPE THIS SCENE!! :word:

OMG....I left my job here on randolph to head to 7-11 before leaving for the construction site...when I noticed alot of PA looking people outside 7-11 at washington and wells... I got a drink came out and crossed the street when the lady told me to stay out of the way and to hide my cup name.. 10 seconds lata bam there it is....the car Nolan has been riding around in. they are filming a scene inside a hummer looking car. the actor they were filming was none other than the Comish himself. Gordon got out on wells and was 10 feet from me before I was shood away.. PA confirmed they are heading over to construction in 1 hr...SO hummer inside shots completed with gordon!! he is a tiny guy though!

just got back from the filming. it was a pretty disappointing day for the volunteer extras, as many did not get to make it onto set. they originally wanted 100 ppl for the scene involving the joker around the podium, so as the girl in charge of us was counting, she got to 100 like 2 ppl in front of me and my stomach dropped to the floor...
...she saw how depressed we were and said "f it, make it 120" so i fortunately got in :D
i was lucky enough to be part of the crowd that had the best angle at the joker. after the AD announced the break for lunch, ledger walked towards the crowd i was in, smoking a cigarette and was like 5 ft away from me.
anyways, i don't wanna confirm or deny anything that was already described that has to do with the joker and the podium scene at this point because im really paranoid about getting sued since i signed an NDA, and with the security that WB had when i was at wizard world it only adds to my paranoia.
all in all it was a nice experience, but for 12 of the 13 hours i was there, i was sitting in a crappy holding room on lasalle and my parking validation didnt work.

Alright ladies and gents, sit tight for this set report...it is a BIG ONE. And today certainly made up for me missing a lot of the shoot yesterday.
I headed down to the set on Lasalle this morning around 10:00am. I met up with Phoenix and her friend (who left shortly after) to see what we could see. They were again shooting the reaction of the actors on the podium (Ledger, Gyllenhaal, Oldman and Eckhart were present for the shoot). We hung around on the corner for a bit, continuing to watch the shoot. We then crossed the street to get a better angle. A few feet away from us sat a green "Gotham General Hospital" ambulance that I took a few pics of. We continued to stand on the corner watching as they began to switch to another angle for the scene. Ledger walked down the sidewalk towards us (yes, in the police uniform without the jacket) and walked into one of the buildings. Shortly after that Maggie G walked up the sidewalk as well and into the building (yay! I finally got to see her ...and she is a hottie, at least I think so anyway :woot:).
After a few minutes one of the PA's standing on the corner asked us to move in a rude manner. Phoenix gave him some sass (lol) and we moved down the street to see if we could get a better look at things but we didn't see much so we moved back to the corner we were originally on. After few minutes after we arrived they broke for lunch and all of the extras began to walk up to Lasalle. I spotted Eckhart moving up the opposite sidewalk so I went over to him and asked if I could take a photo with him. He was incredibly nice and agreed (except I look stoned in the picture for some unknown reason:huh:... it is till cool anyway, haha). We moved
After being approached by a very strange vagrant on the street, Phoenix and I moved to the opposite corner and watched as Oldman drove by us. He gave a wave and smiled. At this point we were dying of hunger so we got a bite to eat and then headed back to the set. They had rigged up the black Gotham PD SUV to trailer and camera car. Nolan hopped in and off they sped. The rest of the crew around Lasalle began to start packing stuff up so we decided to head to the trailers to see if we could see anyone else. We started to walk down Welles and to our surprise we found the spot where they were going to shoot with the SUV. There were zero PA's around and we stood feet away from Nolan, Oldman and the dude who plays Reese. I got lots of pics and some vid of this as well. Oldman got into the SUV and began to look at Phoenix and I. I noticed it and gave him a wave. He smiled back and waved. He kept staring at us after this and smiled every time I met his gaze.
Soon a PA stationed himself near us but he was INCREDIBLY awesome and chill and let us hang around. They closed much of Welles down and began to do laps around it, shooting the scene inside the SUV (also present inside the SUV was a GPD cop holding a shotgun). They did take after take and kept driving by. The PA informed us that we were in the camera's view every time they drove but didn't kick us out. Instead he told us to act natural and try not look as they passed. We were in every single take of this as far as I could see, so hopefully this scene makes it in the film. You might see me and Phoenix in the background as Gordon and Reese drive down the street!!
During our time standing around, we were mistaken for crew people three different times. We offered gatorade and everything. Because of this I was able to get incredibly close to Nolan and Oldman every time they stopped the shooting. And I mean REALLY close. As in Oldman is standing about a couple of feet in front of me while he has his hair and make-up touched up. It was absolutely insane.
After a while they took a break to change the mags on the camera and reposition lights on the side of the SUV. As Phoenix and I stood there we noticed Oldman break off from the group and started walking towards us. He smiled right at us as he got closer so I approached him and said "Hey Mr. Oldman, good to see you." He responded with "you guys getting bored yet?" And then we stood there and launched into a full conversation about the Beatles. I s*** you not. Here I was, talking with Oldman while he is completely decked out in his costume, enjoying a coffee and his cigarette. His assistant came over and joined in and the four of us stood there talking for a good ten minutes (I even got to ask his opinion of McCartney's new album! lol). I was going to ask him for a pic but a PA came over and told him they were ready for him. During this discussion a few people on the sidewalk were taking photos of the four of us, hopefully they find they're way onto the net. I still can't get over it, it was INSANE!!!!!!
After they began to do laps on Welles again, the cool PA came over and told us that he told Oldman that there were a couple of fans who were interested in what was happening. Not sure if Oldman came over because of this... but then again, he was looking at us and waving quite a bit before all of this, so who knows. He was amazing though, so damn nice and down to earth.
It took a while for us to recover from this and we watched filming for a few more takes. Phoenix left and it was just me and the cool PA for a bit. We chatted for a bit and then they finished the scene for the day before moving on. Again, I was going to try to get a pic with Oldman this time around, but he stayed in the SUV and they drove off.
Needless to say, today was FREAKING AMAZING!!!!!!
I have extensive pics and vid from today's shoot that will be posted tomorrow evening along with the pics and vid from Friday and Saturday. Again, my apologies for the delay. It is equally frustrating for me because I want you guys to check my pics and vids out.

He is a pretty huge fan (as I found out) so we talked quite a bit about all the rare bootlegs of raw/unrealsed Beatles material (including various variations of their canon) that were out there, etc. Phoenix is more of an expert on them than I.

Also, go into the "Joker: Makeup/Permawhite" thread and clear all of that crap up for people. Or say it here ... did you think the Joker was double hiding perma-white with flesh paint or smearing white paint or what?
Because I try to tell people that there was "something" about his face that was off but couldn't really tell. And since you got longer closeups, you get to play expert for us now. :word:
I'll agree with you there, there was "something" off about his face. It was indeed flesh toned...but yet, strangely pale at the same time. I can't quite put my finger on it... but I have a feeling he may be covering white up with flesh toned make-up.

Unfortunately I do not. He moved to fast a few times to get a proper shot. And I also did not want to taint my good view by whipping out my camera.

too cool rory_bat, too cool!
I just came back from LaSalle. I was there for about twenty or so minutes, and I was extremely close to Gary Oldman, Christopher Nolan and Wally Pfister (like amazingly close...within feet). For a split second Nolan even looked at the group of us that were standing at the front of the road, where it was blocked off. He was very casual and it was quite amazing.
I took some photos, even though a PA said not to, but I didn't, sadly, of Nolan or Oldman. As for what they were filming, it basically consisted of Gordon, his body double (?) or different actor, cop most likely, and a black Ford Excursion, which had a GPD insiginia on the side. They also did some stuff with a school bus, a sniper, and in an alleyway, they raised a filming crane really high, but it was too far away, and the streets were blocked off, so I couldn't see what exactly they were filming.
All in all, it was pretty amazing. I was stunned that I was able to get so close to Nolan and Oldman.

Hey, decided to drop in and check out the place. It's freaking amazing to see how quickly this stuff spreads. I can confirm that some people in that area are really not what you're going to want to run into in a dark alley or anything, but we went during the day and it was pretty decent. A few women asked me if I was a paparazzi because I had my big zoom lens out even (although my friend was freaking out because he thought he was going to get mugged at any given second).
If you wanna check out a few more of the shots that I took (not all were posted), they're in this set: http://flickr.com/photos/cityeyes/sets/72157601678898522/ and if you want to support a lame photographer with no writing skills you can visit my blog about it at http://www.cityeyesphoto.com/blog - I'll post to you guys the second I hear/take anything new (I actually have a few more less interesting pictures of the scene if anyone is interested). So, no set reports from anyone at Construction Site tonight I guess ... PHOOEY!!
I went up there along with mentalboy. Got a few shots of the building prior to the stunt, which I've uploaded. I will say the set nazis were bordering on psychotic tonight. First they were kind of laid back...just told people not to take flash photos...it would ruin the shot. Then it changed to no photos AND move a block and a half away...they can't have anyone in the camera. They even enlisted CPD to help shoo the crowd east. As I found out earlier, the female PA's are the absolute worst.
Mentalboy and I ducked into the lobby of a nearby apartment building. The police wouldn't let us or even residents of the building step outside the lobby. I gave mentalboy my old camera, but unfortunately he was pretty much blocked by a tree. When the copters finally arrived, I dashed outside and sat down on the ground and started shooting. I decided to shoot the scene in video mode and I managed to get the jump. The video is not as good as the still photos from Friday night because I had neither the angle nor a powerful enough zoom. Still, it's okay. Unfortunately I decided to shoot it in high res mode (640X480) and because of that, it weighs in at a a whopping 102MB. Not sure my ISP will be happy if they get inundated with hits. Any suggestions on where to host it?

Supposed to be mid-Sept, but several of us have noticed many of the permits seem to be good until the end of the month, and since they can be pinpointed to exact days - it'd seem like a waste of cash since rates are calculated daily for such permits - so who knows for sure.

Spoilers
Sign-in for all extras was at 6:30 AM. We didn't start shooting till maybe 8:30 AM. They gave us all a continental breakfast. And there were a LOT of extras for this scene. Chris Nolan wanted a big turnout for this scene because the previous commissioner had been killed in the line of duty. They wanted a lot of bystanders/pedestrians to come out to honor him. We ended up being shorted. There were a bunch of volunteers from the Red Cross that were donating their time & money from being paid to be in this scene, but they'd been called to help out with a lot of victims from all the storm damage/flooding that's happened in the last week. We was short at least 300 extras. I got an email the night before saying that if we knew anyone who'd be free to help out this scene to just bring them with, granted they were over 18 & had valid ID.
There was a LOT of standing around. I was an idiot & wore the wrong kind of shoes to be standing around in. But I looked good. I was wearing my black pinstriped blazer & skirt with my black trenchcoat. I thought we would all be overheated, but the weather was NOT BAD. We lucked out.
I signed a confidentiality agreement, but I'm a lowly extra, & I got paid nothing...
So here's what the scene was! There was a memorial parade for the fallen commissioner. There were police on motorcycles, there were a ****load of extras as the Gotham City Police Department, police on horses...Of course, Aaron Eckhart was in this scene since Harvey Dent's the new district attorney, so were Maggie Gyllenhaal and Gary Oldman. NO CHRISTIAN BALE. I was so disappointed. We kept looking around &we couldn't find him. If he's in today's scene, I'll be pissed that I passed on going today.
At one point during a fifteen-minute break we had, I got up to stretch my legs. This one woman I was standing next to smiled and said "Hi." I smiled & said "Hi" back. She then left. Took me about five seconds to realize that was Maggie Gyllenhaal. I almost didn't recognize her. She's preeeety, though. She almost just blended in with the crowd.
B/c we were short on extras for this scene, Chris Nolan got it into his head to make up for the lack of extras, he'd just work around it. The asst director told us when the last line of cops got to your point, they'd quit filming & just advance extras up front to fill in gaps on LaSalle. So you could see me two or three times in different spots in the parade scene.
While we would break to reset (that took forever) & advance more extras up front, they were filming some random dialogue scenes on the sidewalk. Not knowing this, I ended up walking behind Gary Oldman. I might be in a shot with Gary Oldman in the final product. We'll see when the movie's done.
Later on, we shot the actual memorial where the mayor delivered the eulogy. After the eulogy, the guard members were to deliver a 21-gun shot salute. There were two shots delivered, then they turn their guns on the mayor & it turns into an assassination attempt. Chaos ensues, we extras freak out & start running for cover, police run to protect the public....and it was all orchestrated by the one and only JOKER. Heath was in this scene. It was hard to make him out since the Joker was disguised as a cop, & he kept weaving in & out of the many other cops in this scene. So we kept playing "Where's Heath?"
I'm NOT thrilled with the Joker's makeup. We could make out some scarring on his face and some half-assed makeup attempt. This led to speculation amongst us extras as to "How did the Joker get disfigured in the first place?" Since it looked like a half-assed makeup job on Heath Ledger yesterday, I'm guessing TDK may be about the evolution of how Jack Napier turned into the full-fledged Joker. We'll never know until we see the final product.
I backed out of doing it all over again today b/c my directions getting home got messed up, and I got home later than anticipated last night due to all the detours. Didn't want to go through that hassle again today.

As some of you may know, the next Batman movie is currently being filmed in Chicago. Over the weekend there was a lot of filming going on in my neighborhood and we had a front row seat from our apartment at some of the stunts being performed. While I can't say for sure that what was going on was in fact for the Batman movie, I can't imagine another movie being filmed right now where a guy would do a swan-dive from the top of a 46 story building.
In the first picture you can see a guy just jumping off the top of the building (still under construction). The guy was attached by a cable to a helicopter that is not in the picture. The second photo shows the dude hanging on to the helicopter after he completed the jump.

I found out over the weekend my friend's fiancee might be in the movie. She was an extra at a bar (the Bergoff) when the Joker came on TV to threaten everyone to leave the city, she was right in the middle of all the people at the bar. Her friends actually talked to Eric Roberts that day or the next for around 45 minutes and mentioned she filmed that scene, Roberts said he'd talk to the producers about making sure the scene stayed in. Sounds like it might be a pretty important scene too, Joker threatening the city.

08-27-2007, 02:45 PM
SORRY GUYS THIS HAD TO WAIT TILL TODAY NOT THIS EARLY MORNING COMP WAS FREEZING AT 2 am....

then it got good after that short meeting I attended unintentionally.
right behind that meeting there was a prodcution truck with 2 hot gals watching something on a monitor over and over again so I thought I would be nosey and see what it was... IT WAS THE SHOT FROM THAT NIGHT...they were filming it on Sunday with the IMAX camera's that is why they did it again from friday night.. the shot was incredible the camera is dropping as guys get thrown off the building by......... next post more to come

What sucks is that I ate at Berghoff the night before ... DOH!! :cmad:
Thanks for the report, AF. :word:

Cool stuff there. So Joker ties them together and chucks them off the building?? From what I saw they somehow are left dangling on the chain/robe/cable whatever. Sounds like a perfect scene for the arrival of our favorite hero.

i just read about the stunt on sunday morning....my fave PA (could be lying I suppose) said that it will be batman jumping off the helicopter onto the roof of the construction site...so maybe they will shoot that at a different spot. maybe the construction is the last major action sequence

Sweeeeeet! I won't be in Chicago at that point but I'll fly back from the East Coast for it! :woot:

How is one person able to overpower 5 swat officers, tie them together and then throw them off a roof? I guess the Joker has shome shiznits up his sleeve...

So do we know how this 'throwing swat guys off the edge' fits in to the overall spectrum of the movie? What building is it that he throws them off of? Roughly when in the movie? Where's Dent? Gordon? And does anyone else think it might be kinda lame for Batman to enter via helicopter? Reminds me of the old '70's Batman movie where Batman and Robin helicopter over the city waving at the townsfolk... Shark Repellent Bat Spray!
