so what is the estimated budget? isn't it something like 200 mil?
it would have to be. they have some MAJOR stunts in this flick. i mean, i knew nolan said it would be epic. but i didn't know it would be EPIC.

Yeah, Nolan is kinda pissing me off. As someone who hopes to one day direct a major motion Batman movie, he's kinda stealing all of the thunder. I continually find myself baffled as to how I will end up topping him...

okay back to the construction scene.... MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD GUYS JUST A WARNING...
THE swat guys who we have scene hanging off the building were first tied together with a chain link cable.... also around the editing truck I talked to 3 of the stuntmen who did the scene...they were hitting on the chicks that I was mentioning before at the truck...anywho back to the scene they were all tied together and THROWN OFF THE BUILDING BY THE JOKER!!!!! YES HE TIES 5 SWAT GUYS AND CHUCKS THEM OFF THE BUILDING!!!!! AMAZING!!!! even the editing guy said this is the darkest batman he has ever seen.... so now we know they were not shot off nor blown off the building they were chucked like an old garbage...... I actually was talking to the editing guy for a couple of minutes...I got more after the shoot then before just standing around the crew.... it was amazing guys... ALSO THEY ARE DONE SHOOTING ON 9-2 it was confirmed last night by the PA... so sad!!

i too, as an aspiring filmmaker would love to do a batman film for warner bros. it would indeed be hard to top nolan (assuming TDK is as awesome as we think it will be). but in 20 years, if ur the helmer of the new franchise, you wouldnt need to top him, you would just need to do things different. separate yourself from his style. your own spin as a comic book fan. that's the only way to approach it. how would YOU tell the story of these characters? and then go from there. =D

heh, well he is one of the greatest living filmmakers. but let's not forget peter jackson. for the LOTR movies you can just put them on mute and look at them and say "god damn, these are some great f-ckin movies." but i would definitely say nolan and jackson are in the same league. at this point i wouldn't put one above the other, although i will say that the prestige and BB are more entertaining than the LOTR trilogy. (but peter jackson's early work can't be topped. braindead{dead alive}, bad taste, meet the feebles).

Peter Jackson is terribly overrated. King Kong was awfully redundant, Lord of the Rings had excellent sets, cinematography and music, the pace was awful as was the direction and the acting (for the most part). Brain Dead is amusing, as was The Frighteners, Meet the Feebles and Bad Taste are two tremendous examples of pure **** celluloid.

So do we know how this 'throwing swat guys off the edge' fits in to the overall spectrum of the movie? What building is it that he throws them off of? Roughly when in the movie? Where's Dent? Gordon? And does anyone else think it might be kinda lame for Batman to enter via helicopter? Reminds me of the old '70's Batman movie where Batman and Robin helicopter over the city waving at the townsfolk... Shark Repellent Bat Spray!

I can't confirm anything just yet since I'm not really sure where this was filmed at - and even if I was - no guarantee that would be where it is SUPPOSED to be - for example it seems they are using some of the same streets to be different locations.
Any how though, in relation to the film, this scene DOES come before Joker goes to jail - since this is where he kills 5 of his friends. Other than that, I can't place it yet.

I don't expect there would be too many problems during the day. Besides, there is no doubt going to be a large police and fire presence there. The only problem I have going up there is that I don't think there will be a suitable vantage point to shoot (pardon the pun) from. The site is hemmed in on two sides by above grade railroad tracks. And I assume all of the nearby streets will be blocked. There's a distinct lack of commercial buildings so there's no rooftop locations. Even if there were, they'd probably be used by the film crews.

Hi guys -
Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been called to be an extra tomorrow and Thursday as well, and not knowing the area very well, I am a bit concerned about what the locals are saying regarding the area.
What is the best bet, in terms of getting down there safely, and getting back? I won't have a car, so I want to make sure a taxi will actually take me there, and I have a reasonable chance of getting a taxi to pick me up if I call for one. I am guessing taking the train is probably out.
If it matters, I'm female, so I am a little leary of what has been said so far.

I think a taxi will take you there, but finding one to take you back may be difficult. The green line and the #54 bus are the two public transportation options. Any chance you could hitch a ride out of there with one of your fellow extras?

I was either going to beg a ride off a nice person (I'm actually in the city, on Wabash) or call out to a cab company for a ride back. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't really putting myself in danger by being an extra. I mean, I want to be in the movie, but I'd also like to SEE the movie too. :)

It's too bad the production company can't let you know if there will be security by the green line stop. It's only about 2-3 blocks from the factory. Speaking of which, I wonder if they'll clear the station platform prior to detonation? That would probably be a good spot for photos, although it overlooks the back side of the factory and all of the work on new hospital signage and such is on the front side (I assume.)

Seems weird that they would leave y'all hanging like that. I'm sure they know it's not the best of neighborhoods. You'd think they would look out for y'all.

I sort of was figuring they might have a holding area somewhere else. When I spoke with the girl at the production office, I was like "This is in a really bad area, right?" And she feigned ignorance. So she either didn't know, or didn't want to confirm my suspicions. :)
I wonder if they've having problems getting extras, based on where its being filmed?

Here is a shot of Chris Nolan driving away in a van after Sunday morning's shoot. He walked right by me and got in to the van. Also I have a shot of one of the Gotham flags that were hanging around the building. If you zoom in you can see the words Gotham. I have more pics and vids. I am not sure what the best way to share a vid is. Anyone have an idea?

The Greenline Platform at Cicero Ave. Overlooks the Candy Factory and you can see the backside of the parking garage that has Gotham General Hospital sign on it and the whole side of the factory itself.
I didn't ask the CTA worker at the platform for any information because I didn't want to alert them to anybody staying on the paltform for the filming. (They may kick people off the Platform)
I noticed that there were actors trailers parked in the back to the right of the factory. (the left of the sign that says Ambulance). They have security at the main gate and at each of teh side entrances to the parking lot where there are turnstyles to get in.
As for it being a bad neighborhood the L-Station is only a block and1/2 from the factory and I would beleive that the area would have a lot of poloce presence at the time of filming.

Well, this was the scene I saw filmed over and over on Saturday:
-- Someone at podium is speaking
-- He steps aside as 21 Gun Salute is heard
-- On 3rd round of gunfire, someone jumps the speaker
-- Police and Pedestrians scatter in panic
-- Cut!
Beyond that, I don't think the Joker is sniping anyone here nor does it last long enough to resolve itself as far as "Joker getting caught" ... hope that helps. :word:
ChicageauxTiger
08-28-2007, 02:47 PM
BTW: At one point, I thought it was the Joker "jumping" the speaker ... later reports made it sound like the gunmen for the "21 Guns Salute" turned it into an Assassination attempt of the speaker. So then this meant the person "jumping" the speaker could be saving him.
Much confusion.

I just got back from the candy factory and the only changes that I could see is that they resealed the parking lot (new blacktop coating) and striped new white parking lines on the entire lot. They were working on the Parking Garage that has the Gotham General Hospital sign on it but not much has change from 2 days ago. They only have the first 2 floors with the fake glass windows completed in the front and part of the side.
I also noticed that the Ambulance is now parked over there along with 2 school buses and a firetruck.

The one where Gordon turns his gun on the other cop to stop him killing the Joker? Or a different one? Sorry, can't recall (and don't have them to hand at the mo).
What Luchastyle said.
Randolph:
What happened?
Terrorized Cop
Took...they took our guns, our uniforms
Randolph
Who?
Cop
I don't know. I just remember his...
Randolph
His what?
Cop
His smile
Hmm, I thought Gordon was Randolph. Gordon's on the stage though, you'd think he'd realise what was up

I dunno :o The pic definitely Loeb though
It sounds like they do the gun firing, then all the cops near the podium turn their guns on the Mayor. Not sure if Joker is one of them or just prancing around. Also, haven't heard anything about the cops actually succeeding, you'd think one of the 7 would hit him
Sounds about right to me... the rushing the mayor thing anyway. As for the Joker, he seems to run through the crowd of policeman on the ground. And apparently, I hear that Dent also races through the crowd...possibly running after the Joker....?

I was one of the police extras on Saturday and Sunday (doubt me if you will, I can offer no proof here). There were indeed errors in the thread starter's report, as suspected.
1) Joker does indeed shoot at someone during the Commisioners funeral :The Mayor. They filmed him doing so from some angles and not from others depending on the shot. The 10 Officers doing the rifle salute are Joker and his goons in disguise.
2) It is Loeb's Funeral. The Mayor is speaking about Loeb. We were not told of anyone else being memorialized. We were also not told if the Mayor lives or dies, only that he is "having a bad day".
3) It was Gordan and Reese in the car, also with a Gotham Cop or two with shotguns. The other person mentioned in the seat with Nolan I believe was the 1st Assistant Director, Nilo (don't know his last name. Very nice guy).
4) Ledger had no stitches visible in his face. I was within feet of him. He had some sort of prostethics on for the scaring on either side of his face and makeup; lots of makeup. We could not tell if the white on his face was makeup that was rubbed off, or if the Joker was supposed to have applied flesh tone over a white face; could have been either. This was a hot topic amongst the extras all day. He is indeed very, very creepy looking.
No one rushed the stage. Joker takes off through the crowd after the shooting. Gordan jumps on the Mayor trying to save him.
Lots more cleared up!! :word:

Dent has a severe psychological disorder that is worsened by the pressures of Gotham, and one day snaps, turning him into a criminal mastermind.
I, meanwhile, am just a bit dense.
Isn't Gordon 'The Chief'? And doesn't the Engel interview with, the Mayor I think, mention rumours about Randolph's death, which he refutes and says Randolph is recovering and looking forward to getting back to work? Sounds like our favourite DA to me.

A "Dark Knight Returns" spoiler from a Gutterati working across the road from filming. He described, "a funeral scene being filmed. Tons of white flowers, and all sorts of people dressed to the nines. And, low and behold, on top of the coffin is a large framed picture of Morgan Freeman."

I also thought Randolf was Dent, and I was told he would be chasing the Joker as the attack on the Mayor occurs at the funeral scene. I myself didn't confirm it, but that is what I've been told.
However it does make one wonder, since other scoopers have claimed the Mayor dies, how would he still be alive around scene 260 and appear on Engel's program and say those lines about Randolph (or Dent as we think) if he was killed???

Report from filming on the set of The Dark Knight! Batman 2
Hey guys,
We did the memorial parade scene yesterday in Chicago!! Myself, Mike, Laura, Heather and Ron were all on set for all the fun, standing and ... the Joker's mayhem!!!
It was great! The scene is big, but we were in great spots and should be in the movie at some point in this scene. The best part was when Gary Oldman was on the sidewalk scanning for the Joker in the crowd and he crossed from the sidewalk into the street right in front of me!!!! Ton's of people, but he went in the street there! The camera came behind me and the rest of us to film him in the street.. so I think the camera will scan all of us if they use that take. They only did it twice too and in the 2nd take.. the camera went behind us again filming him in the street..... so chances are excellent we'll be in it.
Some other sweeping wide shots that we're bound to be in, but small.
Also, at the end... there is a speach by the mayor of Gotham and gun salute ot the fallen Commissioner (yes, this is where Gary becomes Comissioner Gordon when he takes over the spot) and the guns in the salute turn on the mayor!!!!!!!! Gary jumps and protects the mayor and the crowd goes crazy!! We all start running in the streets hiding from the gunfire.. all the cops in the parade pull their guns.. and the Joker (Heath Ledger, in makeup) was in the crowd disguesed as one of the gun saluters and is running around. Most of us are right on the side of the Gotham City Police Department car.. so chances are we got caught in that scene too.
Also on set, Anthony Michael Hall, Maggie Gyllenhal, Aaron Eckhart (who becomes 2 Face), Gary Oldman, the mayor is a dude from Lost, and the best was Heath Ledger in makeup as the Joker. Batman was not in the scene so we didn't get to see Christiam Bale:-( But all other principals were pretty much there!
Take care all,
Rob

yes he was disguised as a cop. but i did not see him rush the stage at all, although i was only an extra on sunday. the shot i was in went like this:
3 shots from the gun salute, on the third shot all the cops doing the salute turned to the stage a fired at the mayor. after that panic ensues and cops rush the guys who fired and take them down.
it was pretty obvious that they were doing the takes for close up angles of the bad guys during the tussle after the shot. i cannot speak for what happened on saturday.

Hey guys, I'm confused on something, can you help clear it up?
I thought that Gordon fakes his own death, but all these reports seem to disprove that happening (at least in this scene).
Thanks!
Gordon does fake his own death around scene 140, but Joker is apprehended and it is revealed he is alive around scene 201.
It is a bit of a stretch but based on the evidence we have the scene we are viewing appears to occur after Joker has escaped prison, stolen several police officers suits and returns to kill the Mayor. If this is true, Loeb would have been killed before Joker's initial arrest, and the reason Gordon appears in the scene is because his faked death was already revealed and he has returned to the force.
This however is all speculation. Gordon is only assumed dead between scenes 140 and 201... and we know he goes to Loeb even before scene 140 and explains his life is in danger. There are OTHER explanations though, this could all occur before Joker's initial arrest since Gordon does explain to the Mayor a plan that we don't know the details of, so even if he faked his death, maybe he is still present to carry out his plans - since others are likely in on it.
These are the two logical conclusions based on the evidence we have so far.

long time no see. i've been reading, just haven't had anything to input.
according to my source, they are set to wrap chicago after the big boom. the wrap party was last night (8-27-07)
also, the PA's are very friendly, if you dont try to sneak on set. they are there to do a job. I did meet my twin while I was there for the joker truck vs batpod sequence. kinda scary. identical.

Loeb does fake his own death around scene 140, but Joker is apprehended and it is revealed he is alive around scene 201.
Typo or are you trying to mess with me? :)

Some spy said he spoke to stunt guys rehearsing in Chicago for the HK stunt. It's someone falling out of a very tall window.

We don't know that Loeb fakes his own death, just that Gordon is trying to protect him

A previous report stated that The Joker pushes two SWAT police officers off the roof of a building right? Does this event take place in the same scene... because if it does, I could see it going something like this...
After the 21 gun assassination, the police are about to apprehend The Joker's men, when they get an announcement from above, telling them to let the goons go or the two SWAT officers get it. Then the goons pile into an SUV, and The Joker kills the officers anyway.
