I walked past that parking garage across from the Sears Tower earlier today and there were signs showcasing where the extras could use the restroom and that they were shooting on the roof. Don't know if it was for TDK or another flick, though.

Yeah...its good to see scenes of Bruce Wayne and Fox on a "supposed business trip" when it is more important that the Batman be in Hong Kong.
I find it funny how Bruce Wayne AND Batman will be in Hong Kong...at the same time. :oldrazz:
It'd be pretty funny if Fox was in his hotel room with news coverage of Batman on the TV and he watches, merely whistling. Or Fox is in his hotel room doing something and in the window behind him Batman is seen jumping from building to building, Fox looks around, Batman is gone, and he goes back to whatever he was doing. :woot:

Holy smoke! Batman crew steamed up
Nishika Patel
Saturday, November 10, 2007 (Hong Kong)
http://www.thestandard.com.hk/newsimage/20071110/batman2.jpg
Tempers were frayed when the shooting of the latest Batman movie was interrupted by crowds of fans trying to get a closer glimpse of the caped crusader as police and other security personnel battled with the lunch-hour traffic around Hong Kong's oldest wet market.
In a tense moment, a member of the film crew lashed out at Film Services Office representatives, calling for more police reinforcements.
Tempers were cooled after an FSO staff member reassured the filmmaker there were 100 plainclothes officers in the area and that a large number of uniformed officers would not be appropriate during filming.
Spectators flooded the area around Gage Street, where The Dark Knight was being filmed. The scene quickly turned into scrums as onlookers tried to get a closer glimpse of the award-winning actor Morgan Freeman and Christian Bale, who stars as Batman.
About five officers and six security staff, including two men wearing New York Police Department SWAT T-shirts, were managing the crowds as well as the traffic.
The shooting took place from noon during the hectic market delivery time when dozens of lorries drive up Lyndhurst Terrace, a narrow road, below the Central escalator.
It appeared to be a logistics nightmare with the film crew's van being ordered to move out of the area by police.
One fan who was waiting to catch a glimpse of Bale, said: "It is going to create a lot of chaos. People will start getting annoyed if this drags on for days."
Despite the chaos,
some still managed to remain in high spirits. Katty Law, an environmentalist fighting against the redevelopment of the market area, said the government should take note of Batman's choice.
"Batman's producers chose the market because of the unique environment of the area. I am sure they would not have chosen a shopping mall," she said.
Later there was some high drama when Batman leapt off Hong Kong's tallest building, IFC2, at night after a helicopter and plane had circled the skyscraper for hours.
Yesterday's chaos was the latest hitch faced by the producers who earlier enraged office workers and residents by asking them to keep their lights on during the filming.

I wonder if he goes to Hong Kong to pick up the new suit in addition to other things. I thought it'd be awesome to have that big C-39 Hercules (sp?) hauling the new and improved batmobile back to Gotham. Because I really can't thing of why Bruce would be using a huge ass military plane as his private transportation. And I thought the sides led us to believe that he flew there in a Leer jet. Hmmm, anyway, looks cool, I just hope it doesn't turn out looking too much like MI:3.

No Joker stays in Gotham. From rumblings we have heard Bruce goes to Hong Kong to :
A. Apprehend a criminal lord who helps Maroni.
B. Maybe as well to try to trick Joker. Long story but J-Man might know a little more about the Dark Knight then he should.

Soul/spirit/god. Close enough. Now that photo is funny, knowing what it means.
Since I was bored, I decided to translate that Chinese translation of "The Dark Knight." (My Chinese sucks so I had to go through it character by character...) It translates directly as "bat knight one black night after/between/among spirit/soul/god."
I noted to my friend that they try to squeeze a lot of concept out of their titles....
ETA: My friend just noted that maybe the horizontal line isn't "one" (cause it definitely can be), but a hyphen. That would make more sense. So, it was be "bat knight - black night in spirit." Or, "Batman - dark spirit."
Of course actual Chinese people would get that more readily since their Chinese is better and they would figure out the context. :oldrazz:

When promoting Begins, the studio asked him to keep the American accent during interviews. For whatever reason, they didn't want the public to know that Batman was being played by a Brit...

I actually heard that it was his own choice to do so because of Batman's status as an american hero. He wanted to maintain that image. So, even in interviews he keeps with the american accent to do nothing to break that image to the general audience.
But whether it was his own choice or in fact the studio, the reason is the same.

He looks like he's wearing the prototype suit he wore when he first confronted Gordon in BEGINS.
Where's the cowl? And cape?
Until that second pic, where you can clearly see the ears of the cowl, I was hoping it would play out something like this:
Dent can't take down the mob without their money man Lau. Lau is in Hong Kong, out of his jurisdiction. Extradition would take months, maybe years.
Bruce and Lucius arrive in Hong Kong "on business"
Nighfall in Hong Kong. Ski-mask Bruce apprehends Lau as Bruce can't afford for Batman and Bruce Wayne to be seen in Hong Kong at the same time. (Whilst Ski-mask Bruce apprehends Lau with little difficulty, but perhaps a scene / comment emphasising it's not as an effective outfit for striking fear as the Batsuit...)
Morning in Hong Kong. Bruce has missed the breakfast meeting with Wayne Industries' associates in Hong Kong. Lucius, non-plussed, but not exactly surprised, meets Bruce for brunch. Whilst eating they see a newstory from Gotham - Batman (one of the Batmen from the leaked photos) is photographed apprehending a mugger. (Look of confusion from Lucius; Bruce briefly looks concerned, then resumes play boy act, complains of hangover)
On the jet back to Gotham Lucius is sitting alone. Alfred serves him tea, and apologises that Bruce will be sleeping off his hangover for most of the journey home. Alfred takes the tea tray towards the rear of jet, places it to one side, and while Lucius isn't looking, quickly pulls on a ski-mask similar to the one worn by Bruce.
Alfred enters the bedroom cabin. It's dark. The blinds are pulled down. Ski-mask Bruce is standing over Lau, who is bound and gagged in a chair.
"So this is what club class is like," quips Alfred.

Man what a pimp Christian Bale is. Seriously I love the long hair Bruce Wayne look, reminiscent of American Psycho in a way.
That Bat suit looks amazing the way its fitted on his body frame. He looks like a badass ninja.
So do you think his cape is retractable and thats the secret function that is has?
I want to see a properly edited picture of Batman in his new suit like the way he will appear in the movie. Arghhhh July is so far away :(
I absolutely love the fact that we're seeing Bruce/Batman outside of Gotham. It makes so much sense for the character, furthering Bruce Wayne's billionaire philanthropic image and Batman's quest to wipe out criminality, even if it ventures outside of Gotham. It just fits the character so much on so many levels, plus it's kind of cool to have the exotic flavor remain that was so present in BATMAN BEGINS.
Does anyone else think Bale is more buff than he has been seen previously? He looks more like his BEGINS physique in these recent pictures.

It seems to me that it's the new batsuit based on the fact that the mask has no neck. And we know Hong Kong is supposed to be the opening of The Dark Knight and that Lucious is there. So maybe Lucious gives Bruce the new suit in Hong Kong. This also mans that the old suit is probable just in flashbacks. We know Nolan isn't a stickler for linear films.

when is it said that Hong Kong is the opening scene? Everything they shoot people hear its the opening, i though it was official that the bank heist was the opening... The Hong Kong story seems to require needed exposition (the hunting of Lou). I understand Nolan doesn't approach the straight linear fashion but I don't think Wayne will go to Hong Kong for a while into the film.

Despite the fact that he is a phenomenal actor and looks bad ass as Batman, does anyone else notice that during all of his press conferences, Bale sounds and seems like a complete moron. He just seems very uneducated and very unsure about what to say. I tell you what, if I was making the kinda money he was to be having the kind of fun he is, I sure as **** would know what to say at a press conference.

He looks like he's wearing the prototype suit he wore when he first confronted Gordon in BEGINS.
Where's the cowl? And cape?
Maybe he doesn't waer the actual Batsuit in Hong Kong, more something like that prototype one? That way if he is spotted people won't actually think it's Batman, so they won't notice the coincidence of Bruce Wayne and Batman being in the city at the same time.....it would make sense to me, as fiction surely Bruce Wayne or Fox would think of this, and as a filmmaker Nolan is always trying to make the screenplay as believable as possible.

Bale has confirmed time and again that he hates interviews and press conferences. Has hated them ever since he had to do the press circuit for Empire of the Sun. He has said that he sometimes lies in interviews just to make it more fun for him. I guess we should be grateful he said anything at all, LOL!

On one of the HQ pics on another site (http://i9.tinypic.com/835i3b7.jpg), I was able to make a match of sorts. The camera looks like a Leica M-series, and they are not cheap. The digital camera body for the M8 is about $5K, and the body for the M7 is about $4K.

It could be a Day for Night shot where in post production they darken it up. Of course it would be interesting to have a Daylight Batman excursion though. It's just something I haven't seen done in anything Batman related since the 60's series.

I walked past that parking garage across from the Sears Tower earlier today and there were signs showcasing where the extras could use the restroom and that they were shooting on the roof. Don't know if it was for TDK or another flick, though.
Yes it was. They were working on Eagle Eye. Its the new Shia Lebouf movie. I worked on it.

It could be a rehearsal for a night shot or, as pointed out, a scene that will be darkened in post. Itīs not likely that Bruce would wear the batsuit during the day, itīd be much less effective. Plus, other set pics suggest that Bruce may do "Batman stuff" on a motorcycle, wearing black clothes and a helmet as the "mask", kinda like the ending of Year One.

New footage (http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=rIScQVUt8rg)Sorry for the weird translations lurking everywhere, I'm not a good translator. :oldrazz:
First video:
(ignore the blue newsticker at the bottom)
Broadcaster: Movie Batman - The Dark Knight was filmed in various areas in Central. In the evening, Batman even went to IFC2 for filming a scene of him jumping off the building. Reported by (name not translated).
Voiceover: Batman appears on IFC2 for the first time. A helicopter approaches IFC... filming the scene of him jumping off the building. Lead actor Christian Bale, before changing into Batman, first participated in a scene with Morgan Freeman on the footbridge of Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, in the afternoon. Hundreds of Batman fanatics surrounded the area.
Staff yelling on bridge: Turn your camera flashlights off, really, please, all of you!
Scene with yellow man: You can watch us, but don't disturb our filming process, okay?
Girl with glasses being interviewed: I wanted to meet the lead actor.
Interviewer: How would you react when you meet him?
Girl with glasses being interviewed: I'd ask for his autograph maybe?
Cop in white uniform: Be careful, stand back!
Reporter in glasses with microphone: During the filming process, Lyndhurst Terrace is intermittently closed, vehicles were not able to proceed, causing traffic jams.
Old male driver in taxi being interviewed: I got stuck in the jam for a few times already.
Interviewer: Do you think the filming disturbed your business?
Old male driver in taxi being interviewed: Yea... as you can see, look at this jam.
Voiceover: Over 100 staff and 200 extras took part in this scene. The director says they're glad to be filming in Hong Kong.
Director: I thought it would be interesting to take this iconic American character and put it in somewhere else in the world. ..(he spoke too fast for me and I couldn't make out this part).. Hong Kong is such an incredibly cosmopolitician place.
Voiceover: Reported by (name not translated) from Cable TV News.
Second video:
Broadcaster: Batman (the movie) is being filmed in Central and both the directors and actors feel excited for it. So(family name) Chak-Kwong(first name), chairman of Film Development Council believes that famous films filming in Hong Kong can help enhance Hong Kong's image. Reported by (name not translated).
Voiceover: Batman finally showed up. This is the second time Christian Bale came to Hong Kong. He liked the beautiful and vibrant colours of Hong Kong at night and look forward to sightseeing around.
CB: I listed the 8 things you must do in Hong Kong before you leave, and I'll try to do those when I'm not working.
Reporter: During the filming process of this Batman movie, to preserve its secrecy, the main actors did not appear until now. This press conference attracted a lot of local and foreign press.
Voiceover: The filming process might create noise and overnight lighting. So Chak-Kwong, chairman of Film Development Council believes that they are only short-term affections.
So Chak-Kwong: Filming these internationally well-known films enhance the city's image and help development in many areas, especially in tourism.

So here's something I noticed.
In that one picture, Bruce is putting the mask on. However, there is no black face paint around his eyes.
So does this mean lenses, or are they going the Burton route?
Well if that's Bale, and he's putting it on in the scene and not in between takes, then he doesn't have any on because in the context of the movie, he doesn't wear eye makeup like when he took the cowl off in the cave after saving Rachel.
If that was the stuntman, then it doesn't really matter since they won't be filming him close enough to notice if there's no black around his eyes.

New Batman movie completes high profile shooting in Hong Kong
Published: November 12, 2007
HONG KONG: The new Batman movie starring Christian Bale has finished most of its filming in Hong Kong with a scene showing dozens of police officers storming a skyscraper in the financial district, the local production company assisting the filmmakers said Monday.
The sequence filmed late Sunday and early Monday, which did not involve any of the movie's stars, marks the end of a high-profile shoot clouded by pollution and energy consumption concerns.
An official at Hong Kong's October Pictures said filmmakers could shoot more footage of Hong Kong's famed skyline at sunset, but it was unlikely. The official declined to give his name.
Earlier, director Christopher Nolan and his crew filmed Christian Bale, who plays Bruce Wayne and Batman, and Morgan Freeman, who portrays Lucius Fox, having a conversation on a pedestrian bridge that connects Hong Kong's Central financial district and the upscale Mid-Levels residential area, the official said.
They also filmed Lucius Fox arriving at the same office building stormed by the police officers and chatting with security guards, he said.
Bale said at a press conference Friday he was scheduled to jump off Hong Kong's tallest building, the 90-floor International Finance Center, a sequence also featured in "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life," starring Angelina Jolie.
"The Dark Knight," which also involves scenes shot in Chicago and London, involves Batman leaving Gotham City for the first time.
His foray into Asia hit several snags in Hong Kong, however, with local media reporting that filmmakers cut a scene involving Batman jumping from a plane into the city's Victoria Harbor because of its filthy waters. Nolan denied the reports, saying the change was a scripting decision.
Environmental activists also criticized a request from October Pictures asking tenants of waterfront buildings to keep their lights on all night to better showcase Hong Kong's skyline, filled with glittering skyscrapers, calling it a waste of energy.
Hong Kong officials earlier also expressed concern over noise pollution and traffic chaos during the shoot.
"The Dark Knight," a sequel to the 2005 hit "Batman Begins," also stars Heath Ledger as the Joker and Michael Caine as Batman's butler, Alfred. The Warner Bros. production is due out next summer.

It has a hyphen, I believe, but otherwise thatīs the term. Anyway, since so much of this movie was shot on location and done with practical FX and stunts, they shouldnīt spend a long time on post - visual FX are the most time-consuming part of post.

that camera looks like it weighs a fair bit. and now for something not related to tdk but to films in general, why do they (sometimes) shoot tv shows with film film and other times tv shows just look different, it's obviously partly equipment, but I imagine it's more to do with the physical characteristics with the film used, oh i dunno, shutting up :]
It does. When they are on set it sits on a stand when it is not being used and a couple of people have to heft it onto Pfister or the camera operators shoulders. It is all very fascinating to watch...

HOLY CRAP IN A HAT!!!!! Nolan w/o his beige waistcoat!!!! Or maybe the pollution & smog from HK's industries has turned his waistcoat black>
You're right Tiger, this is the most photos we seen since they left Chicago.
Interesting side note......a few people pm'ed me about Eagle Eye. Come to think of it, I didn't have to sign some confidentaiality agreement like I did for TDK.

There's lots of things - camera equipment, film type, lighting, filters, color correction in post-production, etc. (Those are off the top of my head and I don't even have experience in photography or film.) Not to mention the directors of photographyare going to be much more talented and experienced in movies as a whole than they are in TV.
Some TV shows are looking pretty darned good these days. But when I'm channel-surfing and I hit a soap opera, I know immediately because of the lighting and composition.

Um...it says Tokyo at night.......I think he means Hong Kong...and now I question its verifiability.

Well, the scarring I saw in the WW footage matched the color of the TLH two-face so looks like it could look something like that (which makes me very happy!)
