well would you look at that, Bale is.... smiling

this is the first time i've ever seen him smile in front of fans just before a shoot. i was half expecting him to be all introverted and grumpy about the crowd just like he was in Chicago. but look at him there, its like he's running for office for petes sake :oldrazz:

Maybe it's because he's in a foreign country, in Asia, if an (especially a foreign one) actor/actress/singer goes around with a poker face or looking grumpy, (s)he will be bashed to death.

Batman Begins is the only Bat-movie I'm ever interested in watching, I would probably see this sequel in theater.

Though the HongKong translation is weird, 'The God of Darkness'? Isn't it supposed to be 'The Dark Knight'?

Really? Odd. I figure they would have a word for "knight" more then "God". Maybe its cultural difference, but there is quite a difference between a "God" and a Knight lol.

Interesting though. I wonder if the comics translated over there have always been that. Because The Dark Knight is a well known "Nickname" for Batman since its origin almost. Just like the Man of Steel. Just well known, I think to me that would gather confusion, unless its always been that in Hong Kong. Just doesn't seem Batman like.

I'm used to HongKong movies using a title with God Something in them, I guess that makes the movies sound cool, and 'knight' is a completely western thing so we rarely use it. I'm just surprised that they still go for the traditional God title to a foreign movie which clearly has its name dubbed 'Knight'.

Yea they will do much better then the Petrelli burn. We know the CGI team from BB is doing some of the face for Eckhart. Some of it will be CGI so we get the moving muscles and tendons. Two-Face is much more deformed then that.

Don't know if this has been posted or not but this was at Dark Horizons re: Two Face

The Dark Knight
Nathan Gamble has confirmed that he'll play the son of Gary Oldman's Jim Gordon in the upcoming "The Dark Knight", whilst a report (http://www.x-realms.net/2007/movies/exclusive-dark-knight-two-face-make-up/) indicates that the VFX make-up for Two-Face shows "flesh is decayed, exposing his teeth and eye socket". Heath Ledger has also discussed his role as The Joker here (http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3691&Itemid=99) and here (http://www.latinoreview.com/news/exclusive-heath-ledger-on-playing-the-joker-3297). Finally some photos (http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=268991&page=601) are out from the Hong Kong press conference.

Excerpts from a TDK article:

"CHICAGO - We knew we had entered the set of the new Batman movie when an area of this beautiful city was suddenly littered with rifle-carrying National Guard troops. These were extras dresses in fatigues, of course.
When we got off a shuttle and entered the IBM building, a Chicago architectural landmark by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, our exclusive, day-long visit to the set of "The Dark Knight" began. On our way up the fourth floor, we saw Batman himself, Christian Bale, dressed in a suit and waiting at the lobby for filming to start.
But what caught our eye first in was Batman's newest toy, a gray and silver motorcycle equipped with cannons, machine guns and hooks known as the Batpod.
Production designer Nathan Crowley, who made the batmobile for "Batman Begins", created a mock-up of this mean-looking bike from materials bought at Home Depot with director Chris Nolan in the latter's home garage. It fell on Chris Corbould to actually make the Batpod.
The first scene that was filmed took place in the lobby. Aaron Eckhart, who joins the cast as District Attorney Harvey Dent, addresses a press conference attended by agitated journalists and hostile onlookers. He assured the public that everything was being done to stop the killings by The Joker (Heath Ledger) and that Batman, for some reason, was ready to turn himself in. We watched Dent placate this angry crowd again and again, take after take. It is a tribute to Eckhart's skills as an actor that he was compelling to watch each time.
Standing on the side with extras playing onlookers was Bale as Bruce Wayne. When Aaron stepped off the podium, he put out his hands to show that he was ready to be handcuffed and made a dramatic statement, "I am Batman." Gasps from the crowd greeted this startling announcement. In the story, Aaron's DA character later becomes Two Face, one of Batman's nemesis.
Then it was time to shoot the reactions of the crowd, including that of Bale's. With Eckhart still saying his lines but this time in the backround, the camera panned the throng of extras playing the media and then slowly zoomed in on Bale's face. Trying to be un-ubiquitous as Wayne in this crowd, Bale's acting was all in his eyes, his strongest asset as a thespian. There's soul in those eyes.
After finishing their scenes, Christian and Aaron also went up to our room for interviews.
Then we headed down to watch a spectacular scene-two National Guard helicopters carrying troops flew so low and close together over the Chicago River.
It was a Sunday family affair for the Nolans or a movie family's version of it-Emma, who is married to Chris, and their kids watched the choppers scene as he gave directions.
We'll write more extensively about our set visit in future columns."

Fair enough.

Oddly, I plug "knight" into an online translator (sketchy, I know), and I get a couple (?) of characters which translate directly back to "knight," so there must be some sort of equivalent. Usually a translator gives an approximation which translates back as something else (e.g. "prince" or "guard").

Have you guys seen the Hong Kong filming videos over at youtube? There are a bunch of them. There's one where they're filming a night scene, it's one of the big, brightly lit buildings. The Chinese police, SWAT, etc. rush the building! I guess they heard Bats is causing problems up stairs! An aerial shot shows Bale at the top of the building...Where does he go? The Chinese SWAT are after him, guess he jumps. Anyway, it's great to see Batman causing a stir someplace other than Gotham. Really COOL!

Man! I cant even begin to think what the story line for this film is! Bats is in Hong Kong tracking someone down that connects to what is happening in Gotham, that is also related in some way to the Joker. Gotham city is going to the dogs, Joker is running a muck, we got Maroni running things, there is a gang war between pretty much every gang, Scarecrow is distributing his stuff (fear gas), Dent is spiraling into despair, WOW! Is this movie gonna be four hours Long?!

Nice! I'd love to see more of the swat team rush. Makes me wonder what Batman's status is not in Hong Kong, but in Gotham. Think the police will still be chasing him? Or turning a "blind eye" unless he's out in the open? I like the idea of Batman still being hunted by the police like Begins.

Well, here we are. Filming for The Dark Knight is over, and the Dark Ages are beginnning. I just wanted to say, thank you for being here for us. You've been the most useful thread for a long time now. We will miss you, Filming Thread. I hope this thread lives on after TDK is in Theaters, but it most likely won't. I hope to see you in the Batman 3 Forum soon ;).

Love,

P.S.: Thank you, Retroman, wherever you are, for making this thread.

I'm thinking /hoping that this is going to be the first properly realised superhero epic.

are you kidding? post production is the best part, if the Bothans do their job, we'd be getting leaks from the film on an almost daily basis :hyper:

I dont know about us getting leaks. So far they have been pretty tight on the leaks. And the ones that did get out they have "taken care of"

I think the only thing that we can look forward to now are the viral sites.

Hopefully we will get another one for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Dent will be supportive of Batman. It's in his nature to bend laws for justice and it's already demonstrated in the casting sides, the conversation with 'Gannon' and Natasha about kingdoms needing knights to protect them. Dents characterisation from Year One and TLH will be retained.

if anything I think Gordon will be the one hating on Batman, telling him he's going to far and bringing hell to the city. Gordon and Dent argue on the rooftop and Gordon smashes the bat signal.

In homage for the wonderful experience that was THE DARK KNIGHT filming, a little remembrance:

The man is OCD about his work- he probably either sleeps in his clothes or just wears the same thing every day because it is one less thing to worry about. to be a truely brilliant director- one must completely get consumed by their work and actually "live" in that movie world to make it a great film.

I am sure Nolan could give two farts about his clothes right now.

Because he's young and has sex appeal. And Hollywood cannot do without sex appeal. Even if 47 was programed to not be sexually aroused, they HAD to change that aspect in order to make it a movie. Because we all know "if it's a movie, ya gotta have chicks"!

http://www.star-ecentral.com/news/story.asp?file=/2007/11/21/movies/19499270&sec=movies
Wednesday November 21, 2007 (Asia)

Hong Kong actor Edison Chen has emerged as a surprise addition to the cast of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight, after he was seen on a shoot with Oscar-winning co-star Morgan Freeman recently.

The Canadian-born Hong Kong-based star will appear in a cameo role as a baddie.

Chen and Freeman filmed at landmarks like The Peninsula Hong Kong hotel and The Center skyscraper.

Batman star Christian Bale and Freeman had swooped into Hong Kong for four days of filming, causing chaos and some anger.

The police officer is Officer Berg, played by Matt Shallenberger. The guy in the suit is Reese, played by Joshua Harto.

I do believe so. From the casting sides, his wife is in the hospital that the Joker blows up. When Joker is taken into custody, Berg wants to kill him, but is stopped by Gordon.
