It's bad with some nice character moments. Because Johns and Meltzer generally are good at those.

I can't stand the fact Superman grew up with a League that doesn't exist and that it's going to involve the Multiverse.

hey I was thinking about something, maybe someone already exposed his theories about the subject : I'm a big fan of the crimson avenger, and the 7 soldiers of victory, the old ones, and the story of the "lightning saga" looks like the story of the 7 S of V vs Nebula Man. At the end of Lightning saga part 1 Canary says 7 ... "soldiers" like 7 SoV. Furthermore the guys in the legion (the JLA/JSA are looking for 7 of them) are called the legionnaires and the nick-name of th original 7 SoV is the "Law's Legionnaires ". Then the new Star man looks like a lot to Nebula man. the story was about the last fight of the 7 soldiers, with, at the end, an explosion causing a dispersion of the soldiers in different periods of time.
Well, when i read it I was "do they try to do something with this?"
Does anyone mentionned this before, or noticed this before ?

Bump.

I'm kinda surprised this would even need a bump since the latest issue to this arc came out this past week. Or is everyone now going to talk in the JLA or JSA threads? Seems pointless for this thread to be made then.

I'll make my comments once I get around to reading it.

HandOfFate
05-22-2007, 10:21 AM
Well seeing that this is the thread dedicated to the crossover. I will post my comments here then.

I actually liked the book. I liked seeing the team interaction between the JLA/JSA/LoSH. My only negative would be that I think Brad should back off a little on the Hawkgirl/Red Arrow stuff; it's starting to feel a tad bit pushed.

The Gorilla City part was cool; I find it interesting that Vixen might be sub-consciously copying the abilities of other heroes.

Plus we got gorillas riding dinos, you just gotta love it.:cwink:

My hatred of the roster aside, Meltzer's writing in Justice League of America is actually very good. My only problems with it are the snails pace the story goes and the near complete lack of action on the book. The dialogue is great. The characterization is great.

1. Spell Astonishing right.

2. Having All-Star Batman and Robin on your list isn't something to be proud of.

3. Titles that I read
The All-New Atom - A great title by Gail Simone. I enjoy rooting for Ryan every month. Cancellation however, inevitable :csad:

The Amazing Spider-Man - It's time for JMS to go. He's done some great things but he's been on it long enough and editorially mandated crap such as Sins Past, Civil War, the Other, etc. has made this book languish. I've been enjoying the "Back in Black" story though.

Astonishing X-Men - I love Whedon's dialogue and characterization. Also the roster is pretty damn cool.

Avengers: The Initiative - Slott has turned a title that has just started with two issues into one of my favorites.

Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis - Aquaman is my favorite superhero and I miss Orin dearly. But I like Busiek's new direction that he took with the book and Williams is delivering some rather humorous twists to it along with picking up elements from the previous direction that I liked such as Lorena and Sub Diego. Shame cancellation is immenent.

Batman - I'm loving Morrison's take on Batman and Bruce Wayne. I do wish that Damien's impact would affect other books though.

Birds of Prey - I like Simone's take on making an all female JLA, though her run on the title appears to have peaked. Can't wait for McKeever to take over.

Brave and the Bold - I'm surprised that this title isn't selling better. Considering that Waid is writing and Perez is doing the art.

Cable & Deadpool - Hillarious. Deadpool is another one of my favorite characters.

Captain America - Brubaker is my favorite writer and his run on Captain America is one of the best runs ever

Daredevil - Again, Brubaker fanboy, but this title is consistently good.

Fantastic Four - McDuffie is doing a great job on this title. Much better than JMS'.

the Flash: The Fastest Man Alive - Marc Guggenheim has saved this book.

Green Arrow - Even though this title is languishing, it's a damn shame that it's getting canceled. I like the Green Arrow character. It's time for Green Arrow to get a new writer when it gets relaunched under Green Arrow/Black Canary.

Green Lantern - Started off a little weak but it has gotten a lot better. And yes, I like Hal Jordan as Green Lantern.

Green Lantern Corps - Best Green Lantern title.

Immortal Iron Fist - The Brubaker fanboy in me made me pick this up but I'm glad I did.

the Incredible Hulk - Pak's "Planet Hulk" storyline was awesome and World War Hulk is going to be great!

Iron Man - It's great to read a book where Iron Man does not come off as a douche.

Justice League of America - Craptacular roster and snails pace story aside, Meltzer is delivering some solid writing here.

Justice Society of America - This is Johns' best title.

Manhunter - Glad to see that this title is not getting canceled.

the Mighty Avengers - After crap such as Avengers Disassembled and his earlier issues of New Avengers, Bendis finally proves that he can write the Avengers. Great roster and art too.

the New Avengers - Started off with a bad start, but it's gotten much better. I like the new direction that they're an underground team and the only people that consider them Avengers are themselves.

Nova - A great start so far for this title.

Outsiders - Another title of Winick's that has been languishing since OYL. I was first excited for Batman taking over the team, but with August's solicitations, I'm rather fearful of the roster going completely downhill.

Punisher: War Journal - Picked it up for the Civil War tie-in, but reading this made me discover the awesomeness of Matt Fraction.

Superman - A solid book by Busiek. I am loving Pacheco's art and I want to see more of this Khyber character.

Teen Titans - Quality declined under OYL, but when McKeever comes on board, that will all change.

Thunderbolts - Even though Ellis' concept bastardizes the concept of the Thunderbolts, the title has been pretty damn cool since he took over. It's not like the team is going to stay this way anyways.

Uncanny X-Men - Brubaker fanboy and I've been enjoying what he's doing to the title. Even though it dragged on a bit, I liked "Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire."

Wolverine - Loeb's run started off great, but is currently going downhill from the same s**t happening every issue and the plot is just not really advancing fast enough for me.

Wonder Woman - Pointlessly relaunched, but Heinberg's writing was awesome. Delays hurt this book badly and now we have he so-so Jodi Picoult. Can't wait for Simone to take this book over.

and yes hippie you liking this book is highly dissapointing too.s Seriously are you and darth sharing the same brain cells?
No, because we disagree alot on Justice League of America also for completely different reasons. I completely hate this roster for example. I also happen to like Hal Jordan.

Aha! Of course. That's my favourite book. Unlike you, I'm not holding my breath for McKeever. This title is great.
the Flash: The Fastest Man Alive - Marc Guggenheim has saved this book.
I hear here and there that it's good now but I can't accept Bart. I think the G.Johns run was perfect. I can't "adapt" myself to Bart.
Manhunter - Glad to see that this title is not getting canceled.
I was wondering if it worth it. I read her lastly in Birds of Prey and I like her a lot. Is her serie the same kind (missions/spy/ "exotic places")
Wonder Woman - Pointlessly relaunched, but Heinberg's writing was awesome. Delays hurt this book badly and now we have he so-so Jodi Picoult. Can't wait for Simone to take this book over.

I just read JLA #9...... What a great twist at the end with the Legion pulling the fast one on the JLA. But I will be veeeery disappointed to know that hey got the drop on Batman. :batman: He's always suspicious...always watching. Really kinda surprised he even granted Timberwolf his request for them to be alone. Surely he's planted a tracer on them or something......

Big shocker to find out Powergirl put the moves on Hawkman....and he said no! :wow: I guess she's not use to that response! I wonder if Hawkgirl will do the same. somehow, I think it will be different with Kendra.

Mr. Terrific's sneaky way of trying to get inside Reddy was funny. Dinah was with that one all the way.

Seriously, I'm really bored of writers telling you nothing for the first 3/4ths of an arc, then dumping all the developments, climax, and denouement into the last issue or two. Whatever happened to the kind of pacing where you're engaging the reader with something new and interesting in each issue, all of which builds to a climax and resolution in the last or penultimate issue?

Nope, Crap, but not crap enough for that joke to work. Liefield/Austen is the preferred nightmare team.

You wouldn't? Everyone needs a good trainwreck comic.

Tan had some decent moments. He just wasn't consistent at all.

I think the worst artist I've seen in recent memory is Alex Sanchez. He's apparently going to be drawing JSA Classified a lot now, of course, because that's a title I actually enjoyed.

Well thats kind of the point. Meltzer set it up, and you're supposed to say "What the **** is this?" and then Johns comes along and explains it. It's like comic book 101.:huh:It's not just like oh wow suddenly I found out the big secret or something. Until that preview, I seriously had no frakking idea what the plot of this story was. Why was it important for the League the Society to find these people? What did they think was going on? Were the Legionnaires sad to be in the past? Confused? Happy? Determined? Uncomfortable? Resigned? Why are people doing the things that they are doing? The fact that it took four issues to even begin to touch on all this borders on Bendis-esque (Bendesque?) decompression BS.

It's Bendis-esque.

Doc Destruction

No it isn't, because this plot has interesting, non-telegraphed plot twists with a firm grasp of continuity. It's ANTI-Bendis-esque-nicity.

Yea and for me the big one is: why the hell does this concern the League and the Society? I don't see why these two teams are "teaming up". They don't even know what the hell is going on.

Why go stereotypical? The kind where I own the world cult. A cult is nothing more than a brainwashed group that blindly and recklessly follows the leader.
