And now it's time to say goodbye to the following lazy jackasses who decided to sign up but not play, FarmerFran, Halcohol, and The Lumberjack. However we do welcome one new player, Darren Daring!

Hype Clue!

Welcome boys and girls to the first ever edition of Hype Clue! Don’t let the name “Clue” scare you, if you have no prior knowledge of the game, you have my assurances you’ll still have a good time. The game is separated into two segments, Clue: Board Game Style & Clue: Last Man Standing. Within both phases participants are ejected from the game periodically, ultimately the objective remains the same in both games, to survive! The game starts off with 20 players by the end of the first phase there’ll only be ten left to move on to the second phase.With that said, the two phases both feature two different rule sets, so please bear that in mind when reading these rules.

Phase 1: Message Board Clue

This phase, if you have not already ascertained from the title, is in many respects an adapted version of the board game clue with a few added challenges. As such this phase is separated into five games of “Message Board Clue”. At the end of each game, two players are ejected from the game. The rules below outlined how a game of “Message Board Clue” is played, so keep in mind this shall be played five times, each time completely restarting everything.

Objective: To win a game of “Message Board Clue” the player needs to figure out which character killed Hyper with what weapon and at what location.
Preparation: At the beginning of the first “Message Board Clue” there will be twenty players, each player shall be represented by a character in the game however there are only ten characters. What this mean is that every character has two players link to it thus creating teams of two. The characters/teams are then put into a seating order around an imaginary table. All of this is done in an unbiased, random, and most importantly SECRET fashion. That’s right, you don’t know who your character is nor your team-mate, that is up to the players to figure out through the provided clues.

Next, the details of the murder are created through Hype Cards (See Post Below). Each Hype Card represents either a possible pieces of evidence weapon, location, character. The host randomly selects one card from each category, these three cards represent who killed Hyper with what weapon and where. The remaining twenty seven hype cards are then dispersed to the “Characters” of the game according to the seating chart. What this means is that Player A’s team-mate will have the same exact cards as he does. What the cards means is that, let say you get the hype card, “Character: James Bond”, then obviously James Bond is not the murderer.

The final bit of preparation comes from the fact that the Host shall send each player (NOT CHARACTERS/TEAMS) two facts. Example would be:

Player A is not James Bond

Player B is not Lew Zealand

Team-mates will receive two different set of facts.

Game Structure: A game of Message Board Clue shall be separated into rounds and with each round separated into two distinct phases.
Deduction Phase- During this time players will use whatever skills they deduce necessary to get information from their fellow players, or simply to throw them off the scent since ultimately it’s more beneficial to be the only one who guesses the answer. Players should be during this phase trying to figure out who the killer is, what weapon the killer used, and where he/she did it. As well as trying to figure out whom their character is and who their team-mate is.

Suggestion Phase By the end of the Deduction Phase players will be required to send in a PM with the following information:
-Their suggestion to who killed Hyper and with what weapon and where (If it’s the first round).
-During the first round of the game players can suggest any place Hyper was killed, however for every round after the first, players are forced to pick a location in which they’ll occupy for the next round and they can make suggestions only about that location.

-The location they’ll occupy for the next round

-Which character you’d like booted off (If left blank it’s put to a vote)

-Who their character is. (In case of a tie)

If a player guesses correctly then the character they choose to be booted out of the game will result in the team’s, associated to that character, ejection from the game. If there is a tie then the player who was able to guess his character identity, gets to choose. If under the following circumstances:

-At least two players guess right and guess their character’s identity
-None of the correct guessing players can guess their own character’s identity
Then which character/team is booted out is put to a vote by the players still in the game.

If no player is able to guess the murderer, the weapon, and location then the game progresses to the next round. At any time during any of the five Message Board Clue games, a player may make an accusation to who they think is the murderer, what the weapon was, and where it was done. If they guess correctly they automatically get to kick a character/team off, if they guess wrong then that player and his team-mate are booted off.

Anyway what's completely wierd is all the teams/characters are completely different EXCEPT one which is exactly the same from last game... Have fun kiddies... Look at the number of people it went from 20 to 18... I only brought one new person in, to get rid of some dead-weight. Now you start again, and then again... Also all that hard-work is not wasted... Sigh I been dropping clues left and right since the beginning of the game, hell the very structure of hwo everything is done, is a clue within itself... It's up to the indiviual players to put it all together :)

Anyway good news/bad news... The good news is that I have all the prep work done for this round, the bad news is this... I have to get to my review for my Chem Exam so it'll be a hour, maybe more due to lunch, till I PM them out. Also pictures won't be included in PMs anymore due to the time it takes to get each indiviual picture in a PM... But you can still find the cards in this thread.

This can be done this game... I want get other people's opinions on this as well... I can regulate it to 48 hours instead of 24 hours as for more cards, you get more cards as players are booted

I can toss in more cards... However I don't really want the rounds to go that far... It's more or less a race to see who can figure it out first, plus throw in the other things you need to be figuring out. I mean if I throw in more cards, plus with the extention of rounds going to 2 days, the game will go on forever.

This is my ultimate tool of procrastination... Like for hte past hour I've been studying for my philosophy exam... It's the reason I've had time to do this simply because I been cooped up in my dorm for the last week just studying or writing for a class... However... They are PMed to you at the beginning of each round, by Movies. From there, it's your job to PM other players, to share info and see what cards they got. They can either tell you the truth, or lie, and each has its advantages and disadvantages [Lying can possibly prevent them from getting the right answer, but can also prevent them from finding out who their partner is, and in turn finding out what character they are, and they could potentially vote themselves off]

Kidding or not, this kind of stuff is why there's that barrier between staff and posters. Just because I have a red name, I'm automatically cheating. No. I'm just smart enough to have read the rules, and realized that it's much easier to understand in action instead of text. I won the last round by a complete and utter fluke. I had so little information, it wasn't even funny. I had my cards, what was posted in the last thread, and I took a context clue from something someone else said. That, and I knew that Movies would use my leg as a weapon because that's how he is. You don't post on the same boards as some people for four years without learning a bit about them. So, no, that wasn't cheating. That was logic. I've about had it with being accused of cheating just because I think things through, [and in the case of the first match, total luck].

Um... Actually it was tottally random, I kid you not... Seriously I play this game like a real clue game, all the cards are printed out and I shuffle em up and pick em out, to keep it random. Your matched up by having your names folded up put in a cup, and then I shake it up, and the first two out are a team, etc... Then I randomally select a card from the character pile, and randomally select one of the folded names of a team... Yeah it's all random, I'd appriciate if you wouldn't sully the integrity of Hype Clue :cmad:

So looking over the answers, no one has won yet, a lot of people are guessing very similar, now I'm going to put this out there for those peopel who aren't going want wait till the next round. You may make accusations, this is a rule that's been around since the game has begun. An accusation can be made any time, just post it in this thread in big bold letters, ACCUSATION. Um calm down? Look you can make guesses however... Rules are rules, you didn't participate the first 2 rounds, so you never placed yourself in a room... It's unfair to those who did, that in the third round you can come in and just pick any room. You can make guesses, where did I say you couldn't? ...I'm doing my best, but there are several elements that I simply do not understand. As far as I know the point of the game is to figure out who killed Hyper, where, and with what. Why I am
1) voting characters off,
2) figuring out who my partner is,
3) figuring out which character card my partner and I are assigned to, and 4) choosing a location to be in, I have absolutely no idea.


(It would make more sense if I were choosing a location for myself I am very, very sure is not the murder location, because if I'm in the same room with the killer, I get killed and lose the game. (It tells everyone else the location, but I'm dead!!) ...And so forth.)

We need to really ditch the Survivor Game elements here and just play Clue. Which I've never actually played. I liked the movie tho :o

In the board game clue, part of the fun is rolling dice, and getting to a room then being able to make a suggestion in that room. In the board game, you can't make the suggestion unless you're in the ROOM! What it does is add a bit of flair and difficulty to the game since you have to guess the room a head of time before you get your next clue card.


...I'm beginning to, but there are several elements that I simply do not understand. As far as I know the point of the game is to figure out who killed Hyper, where, and with what. Why I am 1) voting characters off, 2) figuring out who my partner is, 3) figuring out which character card my partner and I are assigned to, and 4) choosing a location. I had no idea until this point, that I was actually choosing a location for myself that I had to mandatorily suggest as the murder locale in the next round.

1) The game is a game of eliminationation, Hype Clue is made up of several "Hype Clue" games which eventually lead to one person being the winner. The reason a character is voted off at the end of each game is so that you keep eliminating people from the game till there's only 10 left(And we move on to the next phase which is played differently than this).

2) You need to figure out your character so that you don't accidently kick yourself off

3) You need to figure out who your partner is so he doesn't kick you and him off accidently, and it easier to win when you find your partner.

4) The object of the game is to figuring otu the murderer, you can't get murder. This is simply here to add a little more difficulty and make it more like the boardgame. You pick your location before hand, so let say you figuring out the location in the middle of hte round. You either take the risk of waiting a round or you make an accusation thus taking the risk of getting booted out.

Also another thing to remember, is I came up with these rules on my own. I simply sat in front of a computer for a couple of hours and had fun creating a new message board game. What sounds good on paper doesn't always work out... So I'd appriciate it, if you'd put give any feedback you have in the approriate way. If you don't like a rule, simply say you don't, I think I've been pretty chill so far with people's suggestions. For example, Honey Vibe thought it was too short, I put it out there for other people to comment, I always have a comment part in section 4. So next game I will elimate the location rule and see how it goes.
