UNICRON!!!!
As quoted in Movietime Magazine, the writers of the Michael Bay Transformers movie, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, say in an interview:
We can't say much right now, but as we are almost finished writing the screenplay for the sequel, the action will be bigger than the first one - literally bigger - as in our heros and villains [Autobots and Decepticons] reluctantly teaming up to fight a certain evil planet-sized Transformer.

You could still do the story without killing Optimus. Have Hot Rod as a protege or something...his story has great mythic potential that gets overlooked by most fans just because of Optimus's death.

Depends on how the story is told.
If they go the EMPIRE STRIKES BACK route, then something like Unicron would be ideal for the second film.

Anyway if this is real they would have to change it around a lot.
Like sam would probably still be a teen
Optimus probably won't die cause I think Cullen is signed for 2 sequels
but I hope Ultra Magnus still says "I dont' have time for that right now!"
if prime doesn't die Ultra magnus can't be leader so he can't say it like he did in the original but maybe if they just throw it in there somewhere for the fans

I don't like this idea at all...Unicron is something terrible, and it should be put back in the third movie...that would be a great way to end the Transformers trilogy that they planned...for the second one, just have more Autobots/Decepticons, and wait for the planet-size Transformers until Transformers 3.
FF2 has Galactus, a planet-eater.
Don't have another number two with a planet-eater.

totally agreed.
and isn't it Bay who said that he wants to do some realistic transformers. If his brain didn't mess up, that planet-sized Unicron is too cartoon, it's rediculous to see a bunch of small robots flying around fighting a planet, that's totally what you see in a cartoon book.
by the way, I am totally diturbed by Bay's ego if that Prime's face thing is true.
I want to see more actions happened on real earth, they can fight in a amazon rain forrest but not outer space please.

I remember a long time age at his message board, Don Murphy has stated that the idea of Unicron appearing at some point had been kicked around, but was only likely as something that could happen in the third film if at all. I don't have a problem with Unicron appearing in a Transformers film. If they can think of a way to make it work, then by all means do it. Still, I have a hard time buying this story.

But that has the potential to get very samey. You need to get more and more epic with each instalment, otherwise you begin to feel you have seen it all before. Kup understands what I am talking about....all the way through the animated movie he has seen everything thing before, every attack and every place...but when he sees Unicron attacking Cybertron...that reminds him of nothing. That is what these films should do for the audience. When we go to see Transformers I would love to be so completely in awe at the newness that I am left thinking..."how the F*** are they going to top that?"

I think a realistic way to make Unicron is to make him as large as the death star and uses Black hole/Quantum technology to devour massive quantities larger than his own size..
Unicron would be such a huge undertaking to translate onto the big screen yet I'm sure ILM would find a way to pull it off. Still I'd prefer to see more Autobots and Decepticons. No Rodimus era Transformers yet. As much as I like Ultra Magnus, Cyclonus etc. Let's stick to the classic lineup a little longer. Bring on a couple Dinobots and also Devastator.
And I do hope Megatron will take on an updated form in the next film.

I kind of like the toned-down continuity we received in the first one. I really would like to see more of that continue.
The more I ponder it, Unicron seems like too big of an undertaking, especially for a first sequel. :( Unicron would be the kind of desperate tool I would expect to see when the franchise starts treading water....and they're not even close to that point yet!
Please, be wise Bay & Co. No-Unicron-Yet! Let us enjoy the franchise before destroying it. They'd need at least a full movie JUST to raise the troop number of Autobots/Decepticons in order to fight Unicron??

I hate to birst both you're bubbles, but both of you are off even though you have two very different answers.
There is no way that Orci and Kurtzman could have finished (or nearly finished) the screenplay when they just finished writing the movie's dialogue a total of six weeks ago. Idea's about a sequel were thrown during production and post but nothing has been made official, there hasn't even been a greenlight yet. Bay, Spielberg and Orci and Kurtzman have only talked about it. They are busy writing 2012: War of Souls right now (they've been done with Star Trek since Christmas and are about to go back into reworking and rewriting that screenplay for preproduction is starting within a few weeks (sets have already been designed) since they start shooting in November.
All in all, they haven't declined, and they haven't signed on or written a word, everything about the sequel right now is just rumors and ideas.

Shia LaBeouf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shia_LaBeouf), Megan Fox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megan_Fox) and Peter Cullen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Cullen) are signed on to return. Alright, im not trying to sound like a jerk, but id rather listen to them say it, then read them when they could have been paraphrased from another interview. im sourcing an AUDIO interview for TRANSFORMERS. in the q and a they say except the actors, NO ONE is signed. Star Trek was finished at Christmas, it is now however going into pre-production, so once the cast starts being put together, they are going to have to rewrite for the actors. They aren't swamped with it. Also, after that, they have a clean slate considering Michael Bay is off to shoot two other movies (one written by them) b4 he can think of another Transformers. They would like to do it. Listen to the podcast.

I'm actually hoping for more of a three way fight of the Autobots, Megatrons loyal Decepticons and Starscreams army of Decepticons. Maybe a substory of humans making giant robots of their own could work too. Like a Transformers defense system that goes haywire.

I reckon, it has potential. As long as 2 doesn't tie in with 3 *cough pirates cough*.
Also, I think as for megatron, the cube evolves him under the sea and he comes back as Galvatron - that'd be coool!
I like the idea of Unicron too, cos then it's not just Decepticons and Autobots against each other again, its them against Unicron, and chances are the decepticons led by starscream may try to double cross the autobots...
As long as megan fox is in it - I'll watch it.
Love that Prime

These guys should put Unicorn in third film, not in second movie. It's seen too rush.

i hope they make at least 2 sequels...the unicron idea would be kinda ehhh...
and i agree with mMark...more fights on earth...not in space..rainforest would be good for like a fight against constructicons and ground based autobots.
personally...i'd like to see more involvement with humans and unicron would take away that human character focus. A bad military general could find megatron along with some aircraft carrier decepticon...and BAy could work with that.
i'm jsut throwing stuff into the air. haha

dude, Orci and Kurtzman have said themselves that they don't think it is worth a sequel (even though I highly disagree with them)... they're making molehills out of mountains...
if they return, fine, but as of right now, they're not the writers.
I'm glad these two are not coming back. As much as i liked this movie, it was full of gigantic plotholes. It was like it was written by a bunch of Kindergarten kids. Get's some writers than can actually write this time.

I hope for all that is good and just in this world, whoever writes Transformers 2 thinks Unicron is just a DUMB idea to introduce so soon. I, personally, don't think Unicron should ever be introduced in a live action Transformers film, but at the very least not in the first sequel. We've barely scratched the surface of any robot (except Optimus and Bumblebee). We got one line from Starscream and Barricade, ZERO lines from Bonecrusher and Blackout, Scorponok is still buried, and Megatron needs to come back to life to give us a truly epic Prime vs. Megatron fight. Hasn't anyone here seen Spiderman 3? Do you really want a Transformers sequel to be one giant glob of plot mess via that movie? Too many plots going on at the same time to give enough justice and ample screen time to the movie?
The sequel needs to have more robot interaction, exploration, and fighting before we see autobots and decepticons team up. Give me a reason to cheer for the good guys, hate the bad guys, and fear for Earth's safety rather than just throwing it all together and expecting us to develop the characters in our own minds.

Personally, i think it is too early for Unicron OR Galvatron at this point, Unicron is just too much for a 1st sequel, leave him for the 3rd at the earliest. As for Galvatron, if Megatron can kick Prime's ass, Prime would have no chance against Galvatron.

It seems pretty unanomous that the fans don't want Unicron so early in the TF movies, which could mean only one thing:
Bay will put him in the next one!
He's reknown,as we all know, for pissing off the fans, and then rubbing their noses in it. Just brace yourselves for Unicron ppl.

IF this is true, then they might be going the X-men trilogy route, with the two groups fighting each other, then joining together to fight a bigger threat, and then back at each other's throats till a lot of the major players die. I dont' mind this actually.

Michael Bay Says No to Transformers 2
Transformers director Michael Bay has responded to Paramount/DreamWorks' decision to become exclusive to HD DVD instead of releasing movies on both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD:
Bay said: "I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!"
Will this change Paramount/DreamWorks' mind about at least releasing Transformers also on Blu-ray Disc? We're not sure, but we have a feeling Mr. Bay isn't the only unhappy one. Yesterday's press release itself concluded with a note that read, "Today's announcement does not include films directed by Steven Spielberg as his films are not exclusive to either format.

I think the second is too soon for Unicron.
It should be about the return of Megatron, inevitably as Galvatron making him much more a threat, and giving us an extended fight scene between him and Prime, possibly ending with Prime being left for dead, which would give us the dark Empire Strikes Back ending many would like to see.
I don't think they should kill Prime though, it doesn't work without him.

i dont think unicron should be in the series at all. but i think the next movie should have starscream as the leader but soundwave would be in there and the last scene would be megatron rebuilt by soundwave as galvatron kind of like the end of starwars episode 3

You know they can't escape making things trilogies. They're seeing a return as of late. The first movie sets it up, the second ramps up the action and characterization, and the third brings it all to a close with everything on the line.

im not sure how i want the series to end. i deffinetly dont want all of the transformers to die, and i dont want them to all go back to cybertron cause that would make me depressed. the only happy ending i can think of is if the autobots stay on earth and help the world develop. but that would be kind of corny
