so, I've decided to get a tattoo...nothing big or anything, just a simple, small one on my left shoulder...right now, I've come up with 2 ideas...the first is just the Punisher movie skull, but the second (which is my favorite) is the tatoo Lemmy from Motorhead has. It's an Ace of Spades with BORN TO LOSE on the top of it, and LIVE TO WIN on the bottom, both sort of wrapping around it...anyone else got any ideas?

You should get a psycho clown tattoo where it looks like he's tearing out of your flesh.....oh and he's gotta have a hatchet

You should get my business name and a screenshot of my website done across your entire back. It would be a great looking tattoo. You could hang out at the beach everyday next summer and show it off. yea, I tihnk that would be just simply awesome!

Also, you can describe actually describe what you want to some Tattoo artists and they would draw it out for you on paper, that way it would be very original and unique.

...but go with what you like.

I spent $600(of course I'm going buy the hour, so thats 6 hours at 100 an hour) just to get my outlined and shaded and I'm still working on it a little at a time. I did the very same thing I describesd what I wanted and he drew it(on paper).

I got a Mike Zeck inspired Punisher tattoo on my right arm and a Mortal Kombat Dragon on my left. I regret that one. I thought I would be an MK fiend my whole life. I'd like to get it changed.

Funny this thread comes up. I'm finally getting the tattoo of a jaguar put across my left shoulder-blade area done tomorrow. It's a custom piece. I looked for a long time before I found a tat artist that could do the custom art AND be able to put it on me when it was ready. The guy I found nailed it. It's beautiful! I'll post pic's when it's healed up a bit.

That being said, get something that will really have meaning for you. It's going to be on you the rest of your life. Novelty is cool, but the thing about novelty is that it wears off.

Cheers,
jag

Why not? Skin is the largest organ of the body. Why anyone would think injecting ink into an organ (let alone the largest) is a good idea is completely beyond me.

it's not like I'm injecting it into my heart or something that will cause any damage...seriously, Red vs Blue's argument of "you're a f**king moron" is a better argument to not get a tattoo than this :o

Used to want one back in the day, but now that everyone and their mother has one, it's lost its edge with me. If I do get one, it'll be to symbolize something significant that's happened in my life.

The biggest problem with tattoos is that when you get old they look really really terrible. The skin sags and crinkles and the tattoo gets kinda distorted and it's hideous to look at. Plan to either never look in the mirror without a shirt on, or to die early.

I used to consider getting a tattoo, but purposely marring the skin seems a little odd to me.

I like that Cap idea...tattoos don't seem like a bad idea, each person has the right to mutilate themselves, not that its really mutilation, thats a different debate. I suggest something without words or a specific meaning...what if you change your mind later?

While I'm here, tell me if this is a good idea-tattoo of the American flag over my heart...

I posted a pic of my new tat last week:

http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151656&highlight=tattoo

It's healing incredibly fast. I usually heal very quickly, but this has just been crazy. It's already gone through it's initial round of scaling and is about halfway through it's secondary peeling stage. All in a week. My tat artist was stunned that it's healing so quickly. He said most people take about 3 weeks to get to the stage of healing that I'm currently at, and I'm only on day 9 of having it. Maybe I'm a mutant like Wolverine or something.

Nice work, by the way, Draw4u. I like the Spidey and Gobbey tat's!

4StringFox: Thanks for the kind words about my jag tat. I'm still extremely happy with it. My artist and I have been talking about ways to flip him around and put him on the other side of my back across the right shoulder-blade and do him as a black jaguar (which is my wife's spirit animal, the orange and yellow jag being mine). I think he's pretty much figured out how to do him so that the markings and rosetta's show up in a lighter shade of grey, which should be cool. I'll probably look at doing that sometime in June as a birthday present to myself.

speaking of tattoos, one of my best friends got married to this guy who's a professional tattoo artist, but I don't know how he made it 'cause as an artist he SUCKS....I mean 6th grade "Look,I drew a Unicorn with markers"-Sucks!
and she's so blind in love, that she lets him give her tattoos.
She's like his freaking SKETCH PAD/PRACTICE DUMMY now.

Tattooing is not somethign to be taken lightly, it is somethign that is permanent that people haev to live with their whole lives. Way too many people fail to really take that into consideration, tattoo artists included.

Absolutely! I'll update my old tat thread with some pic's. I'm still waiting to hear if I'll actually get it this weekend or not, though. My tat artist went to a convention in Amsterdam and came home Monday with new artwork on his hands, which means he couldn't wear latex gloves for more than five minutes at a time. He was pretty sure he'd be good to go by Saturday, but is supposed to let me know and I haven't heard back from him, yet. My wife doesn't have any tat's, but she loves mine. She's not fond of pain, so she hasn't wanted any, which is fine. I can wear the spirit animals for both of us. :)

This is mine... Got it back in February. Cost me £80 and took 2 and a half hours. although it was in two goes 'cos they had to close. It's not as bad as people make it out to be... It did hurt on parts but it was also a different pain to what I was expecting as well. Dunno what made me get it... I actually wanted the Crow symbol, the burning one in the film not the one from the CD covers and stuff but can't find a decent pic so got this instead. Might go back and get a red outline around it as well...

My mum hates it.. lol, I went a few weeks later and got my nipple pierced and when she saw that she said "If you have anything else done, you're out of the house".

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/Vapor18/designStar.bmp

This is what I'm thinking about next but don't where to get it. I'm also thinking of a small tribal star design or chinese symbol on my lower back (I know that's a girl thing but meh) or my first name in gothic writing down my forearm or something small on my wrist. I was also thinking of getting the phrase "It can't rain all the time" in very small writing down my outer forearm. Dunno if any of these will actually happen but I know I'm gonna get another tattoo eventually...

Nice one. A fellow Welshie on the hype. That takes the total up too 3 (including myself)...that I know of anyway.
So you still live there or have you moved on to somewhere warmer & has less sheep? :)

I know what ou mean about itching to get a tattoo. Last one I got was almost two years ago. Been trying to find somethig that a really fancied since then. It is a pretty big decision though when you think about it so no point in rushing things IMO.

Depends where I guess. I'm not a fan of picture tattoo's like that, atleast not really big ones (says me with the giant spider on my back lol)... Maybe if it was shrunk down a little bit and you had it done over your spine at the top of your back so the body is up and down your spine and the angel wings spread out over your shoulder blades...

I got back from the tattoo parlor today, a few hours ago, with my first tattoo. My skin was said to be very thin, and sometimes hard to do, but it was just about finished. I was told by the artist that when I get home:

I should take the bandage off about an hour after.

Rinse the area with warm tap water (not blasting it) to get the vaseline he used off.

Get a little bit of cold water on it to soak up some more.

Apply some more vaseline he gave me about 3 times a day.

I did that, but since the bandage has been off, some things have been worrying me. In the middle of the tattoo, there are some red marks. I don't know if they're scabs, or just small holes opened up in my skin from when he operated (as some blood/plasma came out when he was working that area). They haven't gone away, and I'm worried about that. There's also an area below it where it looks like the skin's peeling, or at least not as blue as it should be. I don't know, but like I said, I"m getting really worried. Is this normal? What should I do?

Well, its always a good idea to go back and see the artist about it. They would know hands on. If nothing else, a doctor.

LMAO Yeah good job not trying to scare the poor kid...:D

As I recall (I don't have one BTW) there is typically quite a bit of scabbing that develops after a tattoo. Then it heals after time. So it could quite possibly be in the normal range....

However when in doubt, contact the artist. Strange, they usually give you instructions on care and maintenance and concerns about that sort of thing.....

Did you get it done in the back alley by a hobo?

when i had mine done i was just ment to keep the bandage on. it was basically like how you'd treat a scrap if you fell over. eventually it scabs over and then eventually the scab heals of. you don't need the bandage after it's scabbed over. i guess since you actually bled the vasaline is to keep the blood in one place long enough to coagulate as well as the offer better protection to the area from infection.

but as others have said if it's worrying you i suggest having a doctor or the tattoo guy have a look at it. you want to fix any problem before it gets infected or treat the infection early before it does damage.

Back to the topic. I woke up this morning, and it doesn't seem like there's as many scabs as there was last night, and the middle part of my tattoo's meant to be white. Reason I mention that is because I was told white's a really hard color to get on since it mixes with the plasma/blood underneath, and would take a few days to turn. He said my skin's hard to operate on since it's really thin. I think the middle part's getting whiter, but I'm not sure if it's because of that, or white because peeling is starting, and I'm kinda worried that peeling shouldn't be happening yet. I'm supposed to itch before it peels, and strikes me as strange.

Also, I think some water got on my tattoo while I was in shower or maybe some somehow got onto it while washing my face. Whatever the case may be, it hasn't dried and when I woke up, there was a little bit of blue ink on my face from where the wet area is. I'm concerned since I leave for work at 11:15am here, about 2 1/2 hours from now, and don't want the ink to get on my shirt and ruin my tattoo when I put my work shirt on. Should I get a paper towel and blot some of it off (despite being warned it might smear), wait to see if it dries, or what?

In a bonehead fashion, it was actually the vaseline that hadn't "dried" not water. If I do touch the vaseline on there, a little bit of the ink appears on my finger, hence some of the worry. I won't be strictly on vaseline as the artist guy said to use the vaseline for the first 5 days, then switch over to Fragrance Free Lubiderm for another 5 days, but this stuff still has me worried as 11:15 approaches

Everything sounds normal. Tats always scab over, and the ink is gonna bleed for a few days probably. The ink never fully takes at first. It also depends on how much you bleed, etc. I'm sure you'll have to get it touched up.

Dr. Manhatten

I think what happened is that part of my arm brushed against my face while I was waking up, and when I looked in the mirror, there was a bit of blue ink on my face. I think some of the vaseline I had put on earlier in the morning absorbed some of the ink, and it was the vaseline that was on my face

Yeah, the guy said there's a good chance I'll need to come in 2weeks from now to get it touched up due to my skin and some other odds and ends. It bled a bit, only one long deal of plasma going down my arm that was washed off. But you think things are normal even with the alledged peeling? I don't know if it is or not, or whether it's just turning white as it needs to

I'm a little surprised that your artist only had you wear the bandage for an hour or so. Mine has always had me wear the bandage for 8 hours or more, so I've just worn it overnight and then taken it off in the morning on both the tats I have. Wait until it starts scaling and the design starts looking like the entire thing is just flaking right off your body. You'll think you went through all that for nothing. LOL! Enjoy your new artwork. Everything sounds like it's going fine. If you want to be sure, drop in on your tat guy and have him look at it.

I don't really think tattoos are bad, its just for the most part they are questionable.

Ok, there is a guy I saw with a tribule arm tat, I asked him which tribe he belongs to, Mike. He just looked at me with an evil smerk. For girls, the lower back tattoo is over done and a bulls eye for party girls or one night stands.

*sniff* I want a tattoo, but I want one that I won't mind having on my body no matter how I change inside or out. Since I'm a girl, that means no tummy, no...well, I suppose I could put one on my foot or on the small of my back...maybe a shoulderblade or the base of my neck.

But I'm sorta waiting to have a near-death experience so I can have one with a cool enough story...**taps foot impatiently**

It used to be my hobbey to collect tattoo stories...people are really generous with the story behind their tatoo. blueyedgypsy, I wanted a tattoo ever since I was 15 or 16. I waited to get my first last year at the age of 27. I wanted to be sure I would be at peace with anything I put on my body permanently. In About 18 months time I've gotten 11 of them.

You should check out Parker's Elbow: Tattoos on Writers, Writers on Tattoos by Kim Addonizio and Cheryl Dumesnil.
http://www.twbookmark.com/books/94/0446679046/Dorothy This book sounds like it might be right up your alley; it's similar to what you are describing with your notebooks.
Cheryl is my one of my all-time-FAVORITE college professors. I had the
privilege of taking poetry and literature classes with her a few years ago. Her perspective on life is just wonderful.

I've thought about getting inked for as long as I can remember, but never went for it. There's never been anything I just had to have on my body permanently. Now, though, I'm thinking of getting on my lower back a double trinity knot I designed (kinda looks like a flower) with runes in the spaces. I'm also thinking about getting, next to my hip bone, a Lover's Knot with a J sorta high-lighted in a different color within the knot.
