View Full Version : The Summer Movies so far.

Well 3 of the big summer movies are out, and I think only one was great.

Shrek the third was a let down, it just didn't have much to it. I thought Arty would evolve into a hero, and that the knights of the round table would come to help him at the end and it would be the beginning of King Arthur and his Knight, I was waiting for a joke about Lancelot and Gwen, but nothing.

I was hoping for more and got nothing much.

POTC 3 was a huge let down, I still can't get over how bad and weak it was, especially after how great the first 2 were.

Spider-Man 3 though is a whole other story, that is a great movie!!!

I loved it, I saw it twice and need to go again, I snuck into it after seeing Pirates just so I could see something good that day, plus I just had to see it again, I caught it at a good part right near the big climax. I love Spidey and can't wait for more. It deserves all that money it made.:sym: :spidey: :gg:

Complete opposite for me.
Haven't seen Shrek, but I would probably like it, because I liked the first two.
Spider-man 3 sucked horribly. It had a lot of nothing going on and the villians were pathetic and underdeveloped.
POTC was perfect to me. It had everything I wanted in it, and more.

Shrek 3 let down.
SM3 AWESOME!!!!
POTC3 great, but not the best of the summer.

Didn't see Shrek, but of SM3 and AWE,

SM3 - 10/10 - LOVED IT!

AWE - 4/10 - Complete mess of a story with a final battle and humor that saves it from being worse.

POTC: AWE is the best summer movie so far!

Shrek 3: 6/10. Pretty disappointing.

Spiderman 3: 7/10, disappointing.

POTC: AWE: 9/10, so far the best!

Pirates 3, without a doubt. Best movie of the summer so far. :woot:

Spiderman 3 - 8/10. I liked it, but too many villians and the story suffered for it.

Shrek 3 - 7/10. Not as funny as the first two, but enjoyable.

Shrek 3 was the worst of the trilogy.

Spider-Man 3 was a huge let down for me. It needed more character development.

POTC - haven't seen it yet

nosebleed.

There are mixed reviews on all 3 of the big summer blockbusters released so far. RT has the highest rating at %61 (SM3). I'm thinking people are just getting tired of sequels.

The people are coming to see them, so I don't think so. Critics, maybe, general public, no.

05-27-2007, 01:09 AM
Yeah, people are coming to see them but look at the drastic drops in SM3's box office. 2nd week it dropped 61% and then 50%. The general public speaks.

But their initial takes were so massive it was bound to happen. I mean, few movies debute to over 100 million dollars, let alone 150 million dollars.

The common theme so far seems to be "the summer of overstuffed threequels". The common criticism to both Spidey 3, Shrek 3 and POTC3 is that all of them have too many characters and subplots going on, which seems to come from the "make it bigger and bigger" attitude that studios have with sequels, instead of just worrying about making the best movie you can.

It more has to do with rushing them out... A good screenplay takes a lot of time and a lot of rewrites... The multiple characters thing can work if it's well-written.

Well..I loved Spiderman 3. Saw that 2 times so far.

I saw Shrek 3 too....that was pretty bad. With one or two good jokes. I say put that franchise to rest. Maybe make it into a TV series or something?

And I still haven't seen Pirates yet.

So far....for me..Spiderman is wins for me. I didn't look at spoilers and info to get spoiled....so everything in the movie was a big suprise. And I loved it. And I thought there was a lot of character development. It's a blockbuster with real heart and emotion...and not cardboard cut outs. At least to me.

So far this summer Pirates is my favorite of the season.SM3 was a hot mess and disappointment ,haven't seen Sherk yet but will eventually.I'm not really looking forward to anything else but Harry Potter I hope it's good I'm not too sure of the running time 2:18 could be genius or disaster .Also the more I see of Transformers it looks promising.

Shrek 3 was alright, not overly great though- but it did make me laugh. For me, I think the first best animated film will be Surf's Up... those 8 clips- wow, I was laughing out loud during each of them. Really great stuff... especially love the chicken in the cauldron. Lol.

Spider-Man 3. Blah. Crap.
PotC: AWE. Great.

I think AWE is gonna be the best summer movie of 2007, imo. Little mumbling about the coming ones:
Shrek the Third. (Opens on August in Finland.) Didn't like the first one. Sequel was much better & funnier. I have no expectations for the third one. Gonna watch it when it comes to DVD.
Die Hard 4.0. Has the possibility of being good, but then again Fox strikes again aka PG-13.
Transformers. Never understood the cartoons. I did have some of the toys as kid though. But I like to see shlt blown away the Michael Bay -style on the big silvery srcreen. I'm seeing this though I won't probably like it as good movie but as a "good-summer-shait-gots-blown-away-very-magnificently-movie-but-I'm-never-gonna-see-it-again".
Fantastic Four 2. Looks nice but will probably end up sucking or at least disappointing.
Ocean's 13. I think it's gonna be just harmless fun.

Fanticon
05-27-2007, 07:59 PM
I got to see a free sneak peek at Knocked Up...its hilarious...every summer has to have atleast on raunchy comedy, its tradition, and this is the one to go to...
I definitely feel that there were some out of place moments, or unfinished scenes...so I know its gonna have an Unrated DVD treatment...I just don't like that I can't point those things out now...its so commonplace nowadays.

Spider-Man 3 was best. POTC3 was great, but not best.

But, hey that's my opinion- I'll let you have yours and lets others have theirs. See, wasn't that hard was it?

I honestly don't see why for some reason, people in this day and age see their opinion as 'fact' and feel the need to correct someone if it doesn't line up with their own opinion. Lol. Strike, you have yours- let SB have his- ight.

I saw Shrek the Third today, and it wasn't as funny as the first two, but still pretty entertaining.
I'm gonna rank it above Spider-man 3
so...
1. POTC: AWE
2. Shrek 3
3. Spider-man 3

I expect Spider-man 3 to be at the bottom of my list and to be the least favorite of the films I've seen this year.
Harry Potter, Transformers, or The Bourne Ultimatum will probably be one of the films in the top spot.

So...the next big wave starts with Fantastic Four 2, then Transformers and then Harry Potter 5. I think we're all going to be surprised at how well these movies are going to perform boxoffice wise...and quality wise, HP movies always deliver, FF2 looks way better than the first, and Transformers could quite possibly become the biggest hit of this set of 3.

I'm not going to rate the big "three-quels" anymore... as I think everyone's beaten that to death with their own opinion.

But what I WILL say... is I think the best is yet to to come this summer. Just next week you've got Knocked Up, which is going to be a huge comedy hit, you've got Transformers and Die Hard 4 (need I say anything) which should be amazing, you've got Ratatouille, which will probably be as good as/if not bettter than The Incredibles, you've got Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Sunshine, The Simpsons Movie, and you've got the last big three-quel, The Bourne Ultimatum....

Although for me, Pirates: AWE is the only one that hasn't been a let down so far, the doors are just opening to one heck of a summer that isn't as much three-quels as it is good movies on their way!

I don't know why you guys are heaping praise upon praise on POTC 3 (I know a few of you share a similar opinion that I do), when clearly improvements in the script and editing department were warranted. SM-3 shares the exact same problem: too much s**t going on for one movie.

Let me say that I enjoyed the SM and POTC threequels (I plan on never seeing Shrek 3, considering the second one was awful), but I found them disappointing. So far, the summer 2007 lineup hasn't impressed me, but I have high hopes for the June and July releases.

Transformers looks awful, by the way. Cool special effects and explosions aside, the fact that Michael Bay is the director immediately puts me off. And Live Free or Die Hard looks pretty pointless too.

In my opinion:

AWE 9/10. (Great story, great action, it provided some great laughs, altogether just a AWEsome time in the theaters)

Spiderman 7/10. (I would give this film a 8 but the dancing scene and so little of Venom cuts it down to a 7)

Shrek 6/10. (Just not very funny)

There's alot of great films still too come!

I didn't see Shrek 3 (didn't really like the previous 2), but I saw both SM3 and POTC3. Here's my rating for both movies:

SM3: 8.5/10 (had too many villains and some convoluted plotlines, but despite the fact that it's nowhere as good as SM2, it's still enjoyable to watch).

POTC3: 6/10 (introduced way too many stuff that weren't mentioned before, like pirate lords, and had a weak act 3).
