If you buy an wireless router do you also have to have an wireless usb network adaptor?

Yes, you will need something to pick up the wireless signal and get it into your PC. Some PCs have them built in but it's unlikely yours does if you don't know about it. Look for an antenna sticking out the back of your PC.
