Dallas just barely escaped Memphis tonight. I saw Devin Harris and Josh Howard both had pretty damn good games, Dirk had a pretty good one as well too.

Appears that the team isn't trying to go all out with each and every game.

Either way it's a good win after picking up a great win against SA.

There is nothing more I hate than a fareweather fan. Being in Indiana. The state is full of them. You barely saw a anything Colts related until they started being contenders. Then all of the sudden after they go to the Superbowl. Everyone, & there grandma is a fan.

Same thing happened with Reggie, & the Pacers. Except people wouldn't start sporting the colors until they went deep in the playoffs.

I don't know you personally, so I am not going to judge your entire personality, but for me. I find it hard to respect a persons opinion that can't narrow it down to at least 2 teams.

The fact of the matter is your opinion and knowledge of basketball isn't too great. It's true that bandwagoners are a part of every sport whether it'd be basketball, football, golf, baseball, or even wrestling.

The West will pretty much always get more respect than the East. Until the East steps up.

Which is hard to understand really. You had Detroit and Miami overcome teams that were picked to sweep them because of their opponents being on The West.

When you really look at it and examine both divisions, the West in a way has always been very dominant in terms of championships. Of course Boston has more championships than any franchise in NBA history. Only franchise that even comes close to Boston is the Los Angeles Lakers.

I think what hurts the East more is the lack of size, lack of consistent shooting, and relying more on the physical aspects of defense in hopes of disrupting their oppositions offense. The West has it all really when it comes to shooting, defense, size, speed, and athletisim.

2007-08 Power Rankings: Week 3
RANK (LAST WK) TEAM REC. COMMENT
1 (4) Suns 8-2 I'm getting a feeling that folks aren't too impressed with the Suns so far. Which tells me folks don't realize that only one other team in franchise history had a better record after 10 games: Phoenix was 9-1 in 1980-81.
2 (5) Mavericks 7-2 No argument here: Dallas has looked pretty average on more than one occasion. The Mavs have, however, won their three biggest games so far: opening night in Cleveland and home Ws over Houston and San Antonio.
3 (1) Spurs 8-2 Duncan is easing into the season like never before -- averaging just 17.6 points and 9.5 rebounds -- but I'll go out on a limb and predict that you won't be reading a Shaq-like flurry of What's Wrong With Timmy? stories.
4 (8) Magic 9-2 Remember what we said last week about being more impressed by this start than last season's 13-4 start? Who would argue now when SVG's guys are 6-0 on the road and 1-0 against the new darlings from Boston?
5 (2) Celtics 8-1 Somebody loves these guys besides Simmons. The schedule-makers, namely. Rebounding from their first L shouldn't be too tough for the Celts when they don't make their first real road trip until the day after X-Mas.
6 (9) Hornets 9-2 The Hornets lost out to Orlando on Team O' The Week honors, but they'll settle for a 4-0 week and the best start in club history. Better yet: Chris Paul (ankle) should be back for Friday's showdown with D-Will in Utah.
7 (10) Lakers 6-3 Kudos to every other Laker. They got a little more help with T-Mac going down Wednesday and Chauncey sitting out Friday, but they've also been nails through all the Kobe chatter. Especially compared to Chicago.
8 (7) Jazz 7-4 We should spend more time dissecting Utah's disappointing back-to-back defeats at Cleveland and Indiana, but we can't take our eyes off the schedule: D-Will's next three matchups are J-Kidd, Chris Paul and Billups.
9 (13) Nuggets 7-3 The teams beaten in this five-game win streak aren't of the highest stock. But don't forget that the Nuggets have already lost two players they were counting on -- Atkins and Nene -- to long-term injuries.
10 (6) Pistons 6-4 The good news: Detroit finished a road-heavy start (eight of the first 10 games) over .500 despite two injuries already (Billups and Dice). The better news to offset a bad loss in Sactown: Sheed has zero Ts in 10 games.
11 (3) Rockets 6-5 T-Mac has his detractors, true, but I'm guessing we can all agree that Houston has big problems without him. The Rockets are 0-3 including the game he got hurt and 11-41 sans T-Mac over three-plus seasons.
12 (12) Cavaliers 5-5 As covered here recently, LeBron knows by now not to expect sympathy from anyone. But don't you have to feel for him just a little bit when he goes for 39, 13 and 14 against Orlando . . . and it's still not enough?
13 (11) Raptors 5-5 Losing four of five at home would typically justify panic, but bouncing back from November nightmares is nothing new in the Bosh era. Counting the last two seasons, too, Toronto is 10-30 in the season's first month.
14 (17) Bobcats 5-4 The Bobs are one of just four East teams with a record over .500 and one more W will secure a new franchise record for wins in November. The best previous November in team history was a 5-11 mark in 2005-06.
15 (20) Bucks 4-4 Yi's omission from the All-Star ballot isn't a huge problem. If his Chinese fans are determined to get their rook to New Orleans, there's a write-in slot available. The real problem: Milwaukee is 3-24 on the road in 2007.
16 (24) Wizards 4-5 All four victims in Washington's revival streak are sub-.500 teams. But the Wiz can't be picky with Arenas missing Saturday's win over Portland . . . and missing a lot of shots on that still-ailing knee when he does play.
17 (22) Heat 2-8 Bold prediction: The only team in the East yet to win a home game will finally do so this week. As bad as the Heat looked in that humbling home loss to Seattle, D-Wade's return has already restored a hint of credibility.
18 (15) Clippers 5-4 Given that the five teams they've beaten -- Warriors, Sonics, Bulls, Pacers and Knicks -- began the new week at a combined 12-35, perhaps it's time to scale back some on the Clippers Don't Miss Elton nonsense.
19 (18) Pacers 4-6 With all the Kobe-Knicks-Chicago madness going on, here's a wild one you might have missed: Indy ends a six-game skid by scoring 117 points to hammer Utah by 20 . . . with J. O'Neal going for eight points, five boards.
20 (25) Warriors 2-6 First he's named a team captain. Next . . . a few MVP votes? Given how jacked up Golden State looked while S. Jackson was suspended (1-6) and how much better things look already with Jack back, how crazy are we?
21 (14) Nets 4-6 Carter was struggling mightily when he was healthy, at a mere 17.0 ppg on .395 shooting, but now look. New Jersey has scored just 77 ppg in its last four outings and is 0-5 without VC including the game he got hurt.
22 (16) Trail Blazers 4-6 Just like Milwaukee, Portland can't buy a road win and can't seem to lose at home. The difference? Three of the young Blazers' home wins are of the highest quality, coming against New Orleans, Dallas and Detroit.
23 (27) Kings 4-6 Didn't see this coming: The only King yet to clash with the new coach might be Artest. That said, Sacramento has already generated a few surprises in the Theus Era, going 3-2 since Udrih became Reggie's QB.
24 (19) Hawks 3-6 No one was expecting the Hawks to match what they did in the preseason and start 7-1, but we had a right to expect more than six losses in the past eight games after they beat Dallas on opening night. Didn't we?
25 (21) Bulls 2-7 Of all the long November trips that the Bulls have taken since MJ retired, this might be the longest. Deng is out now, for starters, and they'll just be going home to more 'Ko-be, Ko-be' chants when it finally ends.
26 (26) 76ers 3-6 The AI comparisons are way premature. But if Louis Williams insists on being called Lou, that's the least we can do after his encore to a 21-point second half vs. Toronto was a 19-point second half to beat Portland.
27 (28) Grizzlies 2-7 After stunning Houston, Memphis lost each of the next three games by three points or less. Plus Pau is still out of sorts and, with Navarro heating up, wasn't even the Grizzlies' most dangerous Spaniard by week's end.
28 (30) SuperSonics 2-9 One game to go on the first extended road trip of Durant's pro career. Through four games, Seattle is 2-2 and Durant is at 16.3 ppg on 21-for-59 shooting (.356) . . . offset by that buzzer-beating 3 in OT that sunk Atlanta.
29 (23) Knicks 2-7 Peter Vecsey calls him 'Steph Infection' for a reason: Minnesota (50), New Jersey (52) and Phoenix (60) all won at least 50 games in their first season after Marbury left. The Knicks, meanwhile, have yet to win 40 with Steph.
30 (29) Timberwolves 1-7 We agree: Antoine Walker is not a guard and thus stands out among West guards on the All-Star ballot. But we repeat: League rules say each team must have three guys on the ballot. So Toine had to take Ricky Davis' spot.

I really rarely read anything other than his chats. The Spurs could lose 15 in a row but he would somehow but them in the top 3. I can see it now...

"The Spurs have lost their last 15 in a row but if you look at Tony Parker's PER in the 2nd quarter and then factor in the selection of songs the PA announcer plays they are only 2.12 team PER from the Celtics. If you only look at the score from the last half of the 3rd quarter in away games played after 8 pm, the Spurs would've won 8 of those 15 games."

I'm not trying to start a fight. I've said some immature and stupid things, but one thing that has remained true is that I present my arguments in an intelligent manner.

Am I harsh? Yes. But I have matured and do enjoy discussing basketball in an intelligent fashion, and I hope to continue to do so for a very, very long time because I love the sport and I love talking about it.

Let's be fair, as a Dallas fan myself, our favorite team hasn't really proved why they deserve to be number one yet. It seems they get close to reaching the pinnacle of greatness and something always stops them from achieving that level of potential.

Just because Dallas gets number one doesn't mean anything. Dallas was number one last year and look what happened, you know? Dallas needs to show strength, courage, and confidence when faced with adversity because they allow teams to push them around. Who knows, maybe this year will finally be the year that they break through.

Yeah, it's very funny to you. However, as I said, when push came to shove I always stuck true to my beliefs and carried on an intelligent discussion about basketball. I don't know if posters on here take me seriously anymore after my immature and childish breakdowns, but in the end, all I can do is continue living my life and talking about the sport I love.

If people don't care to hear or read my views that's up to them. It's not going to stop me from loving or talking about the game.

But enough about me, let's get back to talking about some basketball.

Dallas wins against Toronto with Dirk having a great game of 32 points.

Today will be a test since they're playing Houston and it's obviously a back to back. Should be very interesting to see how they(Dallas) responds to playing off a back to back against a possible playoff opponent.

I don't understand. Riley himself has said that Parker is a poor decision maker and is better slated as a 2 instead of a point. I was hoping his ankle injury was something long lasting, because Cook actually got off the bench for a couple of games and contributed. Teams just sit back in a zone and dare Miami to make the outside shot and Riles leaves they guy who he calls a "pure shooter" on the bench. This is ridiculous.

Dallas won again tonight against Houston. It's unfortunate that I never get to catch these games because I'm at work all the time. :csad:

Judging by the stats it seems Devin Harris is getting better and better with each game. While I prefer Terry to be starting over Harris, it's great to see Harris contribute greatly as a starter and provide some quick offense. What's shocking is that both T-Mac and Dirk didn't go off like they normally do against one another.

Yao had a great game though.

Great win, now it's time to move on to the next game.

I don't know how it'll all shake out, but I absolutely refuse to believe the Celtics will win the East. They'll certainly have a good season, I've believed that ever since McHale decided to show why he's McHale, but 3 reasons have me thinking that they get derailed:

None of their top 3 guys has never really done anything worth mentioning in the post-season;
The big question marks with their 4-9 guys will cause much reliance on the top 3, all of whom are at least 30, and I believe one of them (i.e., Pierce or Allen) gets dinged/runs out of gas;
Doc Rivers

That last one is a killer.

Play some defense for Zeus' sake! 27 for Turkoglu? 17 for Dooling? You can't win like that.

28 minutes for the glorified D-League player (after he gloriously didn't touch the floor last night) and Cook rides the pine. You empty the bench with 2:31 left in the game (down 17 or not)? Pat Riley is determined to give me an ulcer.

Wow, what's going on with Chicago? Did all the Kobe buzz really mess with their heads to the point that they forgot how to play? I sincerely hope that this doesn't mean they're going back to basement rankings.

They definitely have the talent to be contenders for the title.

On the downside for me as a Dallas fan we lost to Indiana today. Devin Harris, Josh Howard, and Nowitzki all had pretty good games, however, they just couldn't win the game against Indiana. Time to move on to the next game and hopefully win that one.

THEY DON'T!!!! My god man. What the **** are you seeing out there? This Bulls team is a collection of average to good role players with an aging Wallace and a possible future star in Deng (and he may not be around after this season). I didn't think they would look this bad, and they can't be as bad as they showed in the Knicks game, but it should be blatantly obvious to everyone now. They cannot close games out, their hot and cold shooting is a lot more cold than hot. Thabo looks like he has regressed, Gordon is the same bull**** as always, Wallace is just a joke now compared to last season, turnovers, turnovers, TURNOVERS. Really just name anything related to basketball fundamentals and its been a problem for the Bulls. You're a self proclaimed "man of great basketball knowledge that likes to discuss the game intelligently" and you are saying this Bulls team as is has the talent to contend for a title? Are you blind?

And if the Kobe buzz did in fact sway their concentration resulting in them playing this horribly, then thats even more proof that they aren't a championship caliber team. Thats a bull**** excuse.

If you've followed basketball or understood the game, you'd know the Bulls always start off slow during the beginning of the season. However this is the first time that I've seen them start off horribly and continue down the path with no sign of improvement.

I thought their win against Detroit would've made them a bit more aware of the situation and have them play better. I am a man of basketball knowledge and understand the game, I also enjoy talking about it in an intelligent fashion and the Bulls HAVE the talent to be contenders. I simply do not know where they went wrong in terms of talent, depth, and hunger.

I think the Kobe drama did sway their concentration and kept them from focusing on games that are important. But it definitely sounds like a change needs to be made and getting Kobe will not change the problems. Look I understand you're upset but remember it's just a game. Hell, Dallas lost to Indiana for goodness sake and I am not flipping out. It's a shame that they lost to a team that isn't better than them, but in hindsight nothing can be done right now.

Is Ben Gordon still starting or coming off the bench? He always seemed to play better when he was coming off the bench.

Jerry!

Oh I know all too well that the Bulls start off slow. But the difference this season is that December isn't going to be kind to the Bulls like it has in the past couple years, they don't have as much home games as they usually do. Though they did surprise me with losing to the Knicks, I'm really not that upset about it, what baffles me beyond belief is YOU thinking that they have enough talent to win a title. And again if the whole thing with Kobe ****ed them up THIS BADLY, then its just another sign that they aren't ready to be a title contending team.

Its the SAME problems Sunrise, the same damn problems as the last few years but as long as there are enough people like you to surround the Bulls front office and go around saying that "Oh the Bulls are up and coming, Paxson's a wizard, we got a good "core" here, Wallace is worth the money and Curry is going to drop dead from heart failure" then the end result will be the same, year after year. You just don't get it. Kobe could have been an answer, I would sure as hell go on that adventure than go through a carbon copy season of the last few years. Because thats all its going to be. Bulls fan that think like you are the ones who are going to be upset, especially once they realize they may be even further up ****'s creek without Deng next season.

And don't be comparing the Bulls situation to Dallas, thats just ignorant.

I still disagree that Kobe would have been the definitive answer, but there is most definetely something wrong in the Windy City. I figured this was the year they had enough experience under there belt, & gotten more adjusted to having Wallace on the team. That they could start to move forward. Instead they seem to have regressed.

Starting off slow is one thing. I can get that, but they aren't just starting off slow. They are playing like garbage. There is no sign that they could have won those game had they not been on the road. Even the Detroit win they didn't play all that well. I am really disappointed right now.

Come on, he's 15. He has no reason to like the Bulls if he moved before he was age 5 and if he's liked ball for more than 3 years he has no reason to like the Bobcats.

I lived in TN 95% of my life but I'll never be a Memphis fan. I was a Suns fan from 92 till Barkley got traded. Then a Rockets fan until Barkley retired. I find myself more loyal to a certain player than to a team when it comes to the NBA. I became a Mavs fan back in 2000ish due to the fact they were scoring 150 points and played an entertaining game. I was a Nash/Finley fan from my Suns run in the 90's and then Dirk was amazing cause he was 7 foot and shot 3's. If Dirk gets traded tomorrow I follow him not the team.

You've got to understand that not everyone is born close to a professional team. Now I'm assuming you live near or in LA itselfs since you love the Lakers and Dodgers. What was I supposed to do? I became a Barkley fan cause I loved how he played. My passion for the Suns during his time there would rival your passion for the Lakers. If I was born and raised in say New York there is a very good chance I would've been a homebody Knicks fan for life. But I wasn't I was born in Middle Tennessee where all anyone cares about is college football. I played power forward, I was overweight but I could handle the ball like a PG, all those things drawed me toward Barkley. I saw me in him. He's anger everything just made me enjoy watching him play the game.

I was 12 at the time I started following nba basketball. I had to have someone to like, it's what draws me to the game. I find it hard to be loyal to a team sometimes when they don't have to be loyal to me.

Now I truly envy you guys born in LA, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, and ect. when it comes to sports. You are born with a team to support, and love all your life. It's not easy for you guys to change teams cause you are born into it. I wasn't. I would love to know what it feels like to live in a city where when I go out all I see are Mavs jersey or Cubs hats. In my town people wear jersey cause of their colors. The most common NBA jersey around here are the Denver Nuggets people love their colors.

I don't think, me being loyal to a player over a team makes me any less of a fan than you are. If you think so there is nothing I can do to change your mind, but I know that when I watch the game my passion is not any less than a home grown Mavs fan.

If you think so there is nothing I can do to change your mind, but I know that when I watch the game my passion is not any less than a home grown Mavs fan.
i understand where you are coming from.. but dont say your passion is rivaled that of the homegrowns... for one you ended your last post sayiing you would leave if Dirk left.. 95% of the Mavs fans WOULD NOT.. ask Sunrise.... and as far as following players and not teams.. i can see how you are cause i'm like that with the NFL... but i dont claim to be as diehard as the HOMERS are.. but fair enough for your case.... i never questioned your fandom.. and i was simply asking Bltizz about his.. as i do.. everyone.. ask Fran and J and Sunrise.. i had this conversation with them all.... as far as the NFL i just say i dont have a team.. it doesnt stop me from rooting for certain teams.. or associating with players i like or disassociating with players i hate.. but i dont claim to be a DIEHARD of any team... to me its a disrespect to all those who have that history.. just my two cents

As a kid growing up, David Robinson was my favorite player. When all my friends were all "Michael Jordan this" or "Magic Johnson that"..Robinson was my man. Fantastic player, a solid Christian, musician, 2 gold medals in Olympic basketball, 1990 rookie of the year, 2 NBA championships. I always liked watching him play. My fandom of the Spurs has just carried on since then.

Back when I was Kid J, Ron Rothstein used to threaten to kick my ass daily if I didn't root for his team. He sent Rony Seikaly and Rory Sparrow to my house to let me know he meant business. Bastards stole my supply of juice boxes for a week. :csad:

so basically you're a bandwagoner... and have no sense of tradition? :csad:

If that was the case I'd be a fan of the Celtics or the Spurs . Especially seeing as the Spurs have a great chance of booting Phoenix out of the playoffs again this year if they meet. Truth is I can't actually bring myself to care about a different team enough to start supporting it over the Suns

out of the 30 clubs that currently make up the NBA, I only knew of around 7 or 8 of them until the first round of the 2006 playoffs (Phoenix wasn't one of them).

Why?

Because I didn't like sports; wasn't athletic. I only thought that I should take up watching basketball when I found out that it was the only sport that I was really good at.

This was around the beginning of the playoffs, so there was always a game on, which meant that there was always a chance for me to find a team and start supporting them. I remember hearing about Nash being the MVP, so I decided a game with him in it would be a good place to start looking. I think the first game I saw was the game before the game in which Bryant hit his game-winner.

Now, the two main reasons why I didn't like watching professional or college basketball were that I thought that all basketball players were selfish ball-hogs and because I thought that watching it was a bit boring. These were obviously two things solved by the Suns :woot: (and the reason why point guards and playmakers instead of a lot of big-time scorers make up the list of my favorite all time players). I'd probably be a Nets fan today if I had seen one of their games before that Suns game (I knew of Kidd & Carter). I didn't know about Phoenix's record that season or the season before (I didn't even know who Amare was; did hear the Nash was the back-to-back MVP, though), I just liked the team.

Of course I'll find a team in the East/West to follow during the playoffs once SA bumps off Phx again or in the future when Phx isn't in the playoff picture to keep things interesting for me, but I don't really see a reason to start supporting a new franchise now that I've decided to attach myself to the Suns.

Hopefully they'll break their curse before I die of old age =-p

Now, Nash was the player that got me into NBA ball, so I guess the exception would be like a situation where Nash ends up in Houston or Orlando or something via trade or free agency. Then I could see myself supporting another team as much as I do the Suns (if that other team and Phx were to meet in the playoffs, my head might explode, though O.O). But only for the duration of whatever's left in his career. Then it'd be back to being exclusively a Suns fan.

With the NFL I'm a homer fan. I like the Titans and will no matter who plays for them. I think a lot of that has to do with them being only 2 hours away. If it makes any difference I have always and will always hate the Spurs. So I am very loyal to that team just not in the liking department.

But we can move on, enjoyed that convo though

Bulls lost again today to the Raptors 92-78 rounding out their circus road trip. Again, **** you Barnum and Bailey, may you burn in hell along with Bello the Clown.

Well. Well. Well. This is going to be a long f**king season!:cmad:

hence the sad face... your story and many others are the NORM in society now... its a shame really... when one can switch allegiances because a team just isnt "cutting it" anymore... wheres the Loyalty and Fandom.. so much fairweatherness nowadays is sickening in my mind...

i been a Lakers fan since i realized what basketball was.. i must have been six or so... its cool the Like a player and root for players.. but one has to have a sense of identity and learn humility along with pride...

i like certain players in the league and i hate the SUPERSTAR on my team.. i stay loyal to my team regardless... i enjoy watching good basketball but i dont jump on bandwagons cause for a certain style or player... then i will have so many teams i claim as do yourself...sorry Darby... i just dont buy it

Look at Rekal hop'in up on that soap box! Get'em Rekal!

Your case is weak. I have only set foot in Chicago once, & that was to switch flights. You don't have to be a local to support a team. You just have to find a team that you love, & stick with them throught the thick, & thin.
