Paxson you son of a *****.
You figure something like that, if anything. Paxson has been pretty quiet lately with all the other buzz going on.
Garnett/Gasol/Randolph sweepstakes?
Maybe Paxson picked Noah To get Yi. Since Yi made is clear he doesn't want to play with the Buckies.
Although it would be funny to read 40 years from now that WW3 was started over a basketball player.:woot:
Noah just seems like an energy guy that's not going to give much on the offensive end. I'm not entirely sold on him, but why wouldn't Chicago go after Hawes?
Because Paxson is starting to seem a little defense happy. I mean you have to have some offense for god sake! The Bulls are like the complete opposite of the Suns. Little offense. A lot of defense.
Remember that part in Natl' Lampoon's Vacation where Clark falls asleep driving the car. Thats Paxson.
Randolph: He gone.
****in' Paxson.

Milwaukee picked Yi after all.
There's going to be an international incident.
The Bucks are starting, literally, an international incident by suggesting that they'll take Yi Jianlian even though he doesn't want to play in a city that has only six Chinese people.
Milwaukee GM Larry Harris has even suggested that their owner, a U.S. Senator [Herb Kohl], would deliver Yi diplomatically if he refuses to come. Are we sure we want to go that far? So now we're bringing governments into this?
Do we really want to piss off China over Yi Jianlian? Really?Supposedly Yi refuses to come to Milwaukee for a press confrence. ****.

I'm not watching (watching Arrested Development Season 1 :woot: ), is this a done deal? I don't even know what to think of the deal. I don't like Brandan Wright that much as a prospect. He's 6-10 and weighs anywhere from 200-210. But if he's a good athlete and if he's a good fit for any team, the Warriors are one of them. And they're clearing some of the logjam at SG.
Hoping for Herb Hill or another decent big for the Wizards in the second.

I doubt it, but hopefully. The interview he did after he selected Noah had nothing in it about possibly trading him or in part of a deal. He talked about his high energy and athleticism and defense. Too bad thats all the Bulls already have and don't need any more of.

I would just like to ask...
Why the **** did the Sonics trade Ray Allen?!! This is making me, and a lot of Sonics fans, depressed and upset. Are those 3 guys they traded him for really worth it? I don't follow College Basketball much so can someone, anyone, please enlighten me. Thank you.
We've got Durant and Green.... big YAY, but losing Allen... I still can't believe it. In fact, there were quite a few sad and angry tears among the fans today. Heck, my heart aches. Literally.
Maybe I can feel better once I know why Allen was traded and the reason better be good.
As of today, I am jumping on Celtic's bandwagon.

Wow. Never expected somebody to be jumping on a Celtics bandwagon in 2007. Or anytime in the next five years. But Allen, Pierce, Jefferson, Rondo and Green aren't terrible. But it's a weird mix. By the time Rondo, Green, and Tony Allen are playing near their potential, Allen and Pierce will be going downhill.
Green is a good prospect, jack of all trades type of deal. Normally you won't get a twenty five-thirty point outburst from him, but he'll consistently give you a fair amount of points, rebounds and decent passing. The weird thing is how three of their best players will be small forwards.
They just announced the Brandan Wright trade.
BW for J-Rich and Jermareo Davidson.

Getting a point guard wouldn't hurt my feelings.
I'm going to delude myself into thinking that the reported 3M the Heat picked up from the Philly trade is going toward defraying luxury tax costs as they try to bring in another gun. :ninja:
First I want to say why the **** didnt the clips pick Nick Young???!!! We need a SG you can shoot and create his own shot!!! WTF! I know we probably got a steal in Al Thornton but the dude cant create his own shot and he turns the ball over too much! No way he's getting playing time for the clips this year with dumbleavy!!!
Now to the blazers why the **** do you trade a player like Zach for freaking Has been Steve Francis and one hit wonder in Frye???!!!! Makes no ****ing sense!!! YOu need a SF!!! A veteran SF!!! You could have gotten Rasherd Lewis, Lamar Odom, Gerald Wallace, Richard Jefferson, or Mo Pete????!!! But you get two bums and one bum who has more money than all the other bums in the world!!
On to the sonics and Celtics: I love the trade for both teams! Boston gets an All star shooter in Ray Allen and they can really contend in eastern conference and they dont really give up any of there young guys!!! maybe ill see you guys in the finals!!! Sonics get to start over with Durant and Green!!! Durant the superstar scorer! Jeff Green the best Point foward since Pippen??? Hmmmm! Nice job sonics!!!
J-rich for the 8th pick Wright!: Good trade for both teams! You get legit veteran sg for th bobcats that they deserpately need! And Wright will fit sooo perfectly in that Don Nelson system!!!
Overall its been a good trade, some surprised here and there but pretty much what I expected. Defintely been one of the exciting drafts i've ever seen, cant wait til next season!

Herb Hill is good value for #55. Solid developmental big. He broke out his last year at Providence.
I don't think they trade Gordon and Deng in the same trade.
Learning about J-Rich's contract, I'm starting to agree with Stephen A. Smith (as much as I hate to), Richardson is not worth $48 mil in guaranteed.

Why wouldn't you want Chauncey?
It's nothing against Chauncey. I like his game. He'll D up, take a big shot and gives you some swagger. However, I need Miami to get younger. They'd be better with someone who can be a legitimate #2 scoring option and add some frontcourt oomph rather than another star in the backcourt. I'd be happy with someone serviceable running the point (maybe getting Steve Blake to bring his ass back home).

I think he's more of a 3/4 than 2/3. Started a fair amount of games at power forward for the Bobcats last year.
He's a quality player. I don't want to see him on the Heat. Or any team in the Southeast Division.

They need someone solid at the point, but it doesn't need to be a star. Wallace is about to peak, has a nice mid-range game, is a solid rebounder and Ds up. He slides into that 3 (maybe 4 is they go small) nicely, especially seeing as how either Posey and/or Kapono is likely going bye-bye. They need another consistent scoring option badly. The PG is definitely important, but with D-Wade back there and running the show in the crunch, going all out at another spot is more beneficial.

Dude, Zach Randolph is going to get arrested for doing something stupid. He couldn't keep himself in check in ****ing Portland, of all places, so he absolutely can't control himself in New York. Further, there's no reason for he and Curry to play on the same team. Can somebody please move Kobe Bryant or KG, so we can stop hearing about these "trade" possibilities and rumors everytime I turn on ESPN!
I said it once and I'll say it again. Leave Kobe where he's at. He has three championship rings(thanks to Shaq), he wanted to be the big star that took all of the shots and he wanted to be the center of attention.
He got what he wanted and he should be made to stay in L.A. I feel no sympathy for him since he put himself in this situation. Kobe could be the greatest basketball player in the world if he set aside his ego and made his teammates better.
I don't want to hear about "Oh his teammates suck." Absolute crap if you ask me. This team took Phoenix to the limit and would've won the series if Kobe hadn't become a drama queen about shot selection.

No chance against the Suns? Forgetting about the 3-1 deficit? Forgetting that when Kobe related to his teammates they played as a unit and WOULD'VE won if they played smarter.
In a running game no team stands a chance against the Suns. But when the Lakers put that half-court defense on them that forced the Suns to set their offense and not run, they had them in the palm of their hands and the Lakers choked.
Much like Dallas choked against Miami and Golden State, the Lakers choked against the Suns during the 2006 Playoffs. And yes, Kobe owes those three championship rings to Shaq.
With the clips of drafting Al Thorton, Maggette is definetly gone!

Forgetting to mention you were talking about the 2006 playoffs. Check.

I'm actually quite depressed over the draft last night. I was actually believing Yi Jianlian was going to fall to the Bulls at #9! When Milwaukee took him at #6, I was in a funk for the rest of the night. It didn't help when Pax took Noah.
He might be considered a "winner," but he's definitely not what Chicago needs. Noah is a high energy defender/rebounder/hustler, but so are B-Wallace and Tyrus Thomas. What they needed was an offensive threat on the frontline. Plus, I just can't stand the guy.
Plus, it would have been a dream come true for me to see a Chinese superstar wearing the black & red. :(

They would've been better off with Corey Brewer at the 3 or move Villanueva to the 3 and play Noah at the 4. BTW, Joakim would've been a better fit since Bogut is soft and isn't a hustle guy.

Well it's not fair to the Bucks just because Yi and/or his agent and/or apparently the Chinese government, or whatever's been said lately, don't want to have to play there. It's not the organization's fault there are apparently 3 Chinese people living in Milwaukee. You (should have to) play where you're drafted. What's the point of the draft if people can just make ridiculous, irreverent demands?
And moving Villanueva to the 3 and putting Yi at the 4 is the same thing as using Noah at the 4, except better.

Am I the only one who thinks the Ray Allen trade was an extremely good thing for the Las Veg ...er Seattle Sonics? Ray's a 32-year old jumpshooter who refuses to play defense. On top of that, he's coming off surgery on both ankles. He averaged a career-high in points last year and his value will never be higher. It's a bit of a shock because it is Ray Allen, but what have they done since he's been there other than get bounced out of the playoffs by the Spurs one year and hold lottery tickets in the others?
They're already bringing in Durant and now they get Jeff Green, who has an extremely versatile game. Delonte West will get some good PT (if not challenge to start) and anything that lessens Earl Watson's time on the court is a good thing. All three of those guys bring you some defense. Sczerbiak doesn't seem like that great of an addition (he'll likely be inconsistent, injured or both), but his contract is cheaper than Ray's and it expires sooner (2009). Hell, they may buy him out and look for a big free agent next year. This was a good move.
Portland did well for themselves, as did Atlanta (I can't believe I wrote that). Milwaukee gave me all kinds of laughs with the Yi situation and Stephen A.'s incessant screaming, especially about the J-Rich trade was priceless. The only thing I really missed was Jay Bilas repeatedly refering to how good some of the players were because they're 'long'. I can be extremely immature at times.
I don't really know what to make of Miami's dealings. I wanted to punch the wall when they drafted Jason Smith, but trading him for Cook and some $$$$ is all right. He's a nice shooter and that works well with Wade creating and whatever Big Daddy still has in the tank. On the flip side, he's from Ohio State and I hate those bastards. I also hear he has potential maturity problems and South Beach really ain't the best place for a 20-year old to work that out. I've seen him compared to Larry Hughes and I don't know whether to cheer or cry.
I should also add that I'm stunned that Isiah actually made a trade that makes a semblance of sense. He got rid of Francis and brought in a 20/10 guy at the 4. If he gets rid of Nate Robinson for someone who actually is a point guard, he could probably run for Mayor.

I guess the buzz on the Heat blog had some truth to it.
Miami can talk about it all they want, but they'd need to get Seattle to take on around 10M in contracts. Looks like they want to offer Udonis up, which doesn't bother me. There's also J-Will's expiring deal (~9M) and/or a possible sign and trade involving Kapono or Posey (I'd prefer the former). Lewis just left 21M on the table. I'll reserve my giddiness until things pick up.

Drafting a player is never a guarantee, but Kevin Durant is an amazing player; best in the country last year and only 18. I made a point to watch him anytime he was on TV and I didn't care about his team or who they were playing. He had fantastic games and was just dominant.
Green isn't Durant good, but he is talented. I think it's a good move in improving overall. I'm laughing at Boston right now.

Don Nelson is being sued by the owner of the Mavericks for using "confidential information" to beat his former team in the playoffs, and if an arbitrator agrees with this claim, then Nelson might not be allowed to coach again for Golden State.
O'Connor: "The thrust of [Cuban's] counter claim is the Warriors beat the Mavs because Nellie had confidential information and he wants to enjoin Don from coaching against the Mavericks."

NEWARK, N.J. -- Vince Carter opted out of the final year of a contract with the New Jersey Nets that would have paid the All-Star guard $16.3 million this coming season.
Carter
Nets' President Rod Thorn said Saturday the team was informed Friday that Carter would test the free agent market, but he remained optimistic the 30-year-old swingman would return next season.
"Unless he's changed his mind, we're hoping he's back," Thorn told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "He said he wants to return and we've always said we wanted him back."
The two sides have talked about a contract for the past month, and they are close to an agreement on a four-year deal worth more than $60 million.
Any new contract could not be signed until July 11. If the two sides reach an agreement, Thorn said the team is prohibited from announcing the deal until then.
Kurt Schoeppler, Carter's agent, has not returned telephone calls left at his Cleveland office since the negotiations began. He did not return a call on Saturday.
Carter averaged team-highs of 25.2 points in the regular season and 22.3 for the postseason.
If there is a knock on Carter, who will be entering his 10th season, it's his failure to step up in the playoffs. He shot less than 40 percent from the field in the postseason and he made several big mistakes.
Carter turned the ball over in the closing seconds of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal against Cleveland with the Nets down two points and 2-1 in the series. He also was somewhat of a no-show for the deciding Game 6, scoring 11 points while having more turnovers (5) than baskets (4).
The other potential free agent the Nets would like to lock up is center Mikki Moore, who took over the starting job after Nenad Krstic was lost in December with a knee injury. Moore averaged career-bests of 9.8 points and 5.1 rebounds while leading the league in field goal percentage .609.

Stein's free-agency notes
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&id=2922326
Milwaukee didn't rush to the phones to get Chauncey Billups on the line this morning, which indicates that they're more interested in re-signing Mo Williams than they are at bringing in Billups. He'll probably stay in Detroit.
Phoenix and San Antonio are offering Grant Hill the veterans' minimum, whereas Detroit, Toronto, and Orlando are offering much more. One source told Stein, though, the it's almost a sure thing that Hill will be in Phoenix next season.
Seattle is playing close to the vest on Rashard Lewis. They seem to want to keep him, but speculation is that it's all a front to drive up Lewis' trade value.
Dallas' most coveted free agent is Rashard Lewis, not Matt Barnes.
Also:
Jason Kapono will sign with the Raptors (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2922597)
Luke Walton reached a six-year, $30 M deal to stay with the Lakers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2922663)

I wish Miami could have parlayed Kapono in a sign and trade, but I can't blame him for jumping on that. In regards to Darko - yuck. No he better not. The last thing the Bulls need is ANOTHER defensive big man. Get me an effing scorer and do it pronto. All the Bulls have is the mid-level exception right now (about $5.5 mil) and another $1.2 mil that can't be combined or split. More room can come if they move or dump someone, but they seem intent on keeping Nocioni and not lopping another massive salary on top of Ben's, so Lewis looks unlikely. This is why picking Noah was dumb. They needed an inside scorer going into the draft and still need one now. JamesOn Curry makes Duhon even more expendable, so maybe packaging him and Nocioni along in a sign and trade for that scorer is a possibility. As is, Zach Randolph was the best option to fill this void and he's a Knick now...

I still think Yi will be a Bull before the season starts.
Quote:
Moving to bolster the team at point guard, the Clippers are pursuing three-time All-Star Steve Francis, who could become a free agent this week, league and team sources said Sunday.
Quote:
General Manager Elgin Baylor and Coach Mike Dunleavy are also interested in Jason Hart, who joined the team late last season, and Brevin Knight, but Francis is potentially the team's highest-profile option.
Quote:
The Clippers hope to sign Francis, 30, for a portion of the mid-level exception, reuniting him with his longtime friend, guard Cuttino Mobley.
Quote:
Portland must wait for the deal to be finalized before the buyout negotiated by Francis' agent, Jeff Fried, can take effect.
Attempts to contact Fried, Baylor and Dunleavy were unsuccessful Sunday, but sources said acquiring Francis is the Clippers' top off-season priority.

The Bucks won't trade Yi for a player chosen further down in the draft. As mentioned, they'll want a PG or SF in return. Yi and another Buck (Patterson?) to the Bulls might make sense for Duhon and Nocioni, but the Bucks have to believe that Nocioni is a starter needing a starting spot. I know Patterson has some previous personality issues, but Milwaukee and separation from Randolph seems to have calmed him.

15M/yr is a lot for a guy who was always a #2 on a non-playoff team, but that's the market for the #1 guy in a free agent class. If Orlando can get some real consistency or a leader in the backcourt, this could be fun to watch.

He's not such a bad player... if you cut out the flopping.

Rashard Lewis went to Orlando? Nice. Dwight Howard, Grant Hill, and Rashard Lewis can offer some much needed offensive power. Rashard was a much needed outside shooter. He can step out to hit the three and is very athletic as well.
Nice pick up for Orlando.

I just hope Grant sticks around... apparently, he was in Phoenix today and some league insiders have speculated for the past week that he's dead-set on joining the Suns. If that's the case, our starting lineup this fall would be
Jameer Nelson
J.J. Redick
Rashard Lewis
Tony Battie
Dwight Howard
Not bad.
I wonder what this all means for Hedo Turkoglu, though. Lewis is the starting three and Trevor Ariza is the backup Otis Smith has said is untouchable in a trade.
Free Hedo.

If so he should play back up to Jay Jay the Jet Plane (thats me!).

At 6'10", he's best suited to playing in the frontcourt. If he's going to stray from his natural small-forward position, it'll be to play the four.
Our shooting guards are Redick, Keyon Dooling (who can also play the point) and -- gulp -- Keith Bogans.

He's good and his contract doesn't overpay him too grossly - about $5 million a season. Any team in need of three-point shooting (Rekal? You listening?) could take a chance on him.
What is the NBA Salary Cap? Is it 53M?
It hasn't been set for this season yet, but whatever it is, the Cavs are over it. Last year, their payroll was basically $63 million. The following Cavaliers "earned" $5 million+ last season:
Larry Hughes
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Drew Gooden
Eric Snow
LeBron James
Donyell Marshall :down
Ilgauskas and Hughes don't come off the books until 2010. They combine to eat $22 million of cap space each season.
Soooooooooo yeah. Good luck with that Gerald Wallace thing.

Just found what each of the Cavs are making. I don't usually follow much of the salaries. Larry Hughes is making 13.3M? That seems to be a little too much. I guess signing Gerald Wallace isn't going to happen.

Bobcats Re-Sign Carroll for Six Years, $27 Million (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2925667)
That's actually a fairly reasonable price. $3.5 mill a year for 12 points and 42% from downtown.... solid.
Grant Hill, who fell short of expectations in six injury-marred seasons with Orlando, has decided to sign a free-agent contract with the Phoenix Suns.
The move continues an overhaul of the Magic lineup and shores up the small forward position for Phoenix.
Hill's agent, Lon Babby, said Thursday that Hill has agreed in principle to a two-year deal -- known as a bi-annual exception -- for $1.8 million this season and almost $2 million in 2008-09 at the player's option. Teams can offer $1.2 million as the mid-level exception for veterans, but can offer the bigger $1.8 million bi-annually.
The deal will not be considered official until July 11, the first day free agents are allowed to officially sign new contracts.
Hill also considered the Pistons, Heat, Mavs and Spurs but ultimately chose the Suns because of their ability to give him a meaningful role on the team and a chance at a championship.
"Obviously money wasn't the biggest factor here," Babby said. "He had offers for a lot more money. Grant wants a chance to win a championship and he wanted to go to a place that would give him a chance to contribute. Phoenix was the perfect fit."
Hill gives Phoenix some help at small forward after the team traded away James Jones on draft night. Hill should challenge Boris Diaw for the starting small forward role.
Despite Hill joining the team, the Suns' future remains rather murky at this point. While they have been a contender every year since Steve Nash joined the team, uncertainty remains around the roster for the 2007-08 season.
The team has been heavily involved in Kevin Garnett trade rumors this summer. In almost every scenario that has leaked, players like Shawn Marion or Amare Stoudemire could potentially head to other teams. It is still unclear how Hill's signing will affect the Suns' thinking about trading Marion or Stoudemire or trading for Garnett.
Suns owner Robert Sarver would like new Suns general manager Steve Kerr to trim around $10 million in payroll this summer in order to avoid paying the league's luxury tax -- another factor that might influence the team's decision-making.
Hill's decision to leave the Magic ends a long, tortured relationship with the franchise. When Hill joined the team in 2000 (along with free agent Tracy McGrady) in a sign-and-trade with Detroit, people were talking about winning championships. However, complications from ankle surgery in the summer of 2000 derailed Hill's career.
In his six seasons with the Magic, Hill played more than 30 games in a season only twice. In total, Hill played in only 200 of the 492 total regular-season games the Magic played while he was under contract for $93 million.

I was just reading about Grant Hill signing with the Suns. It's a shocker for me and I'm sure a shocker for the Orlando fanbase. Guess he wants to go to a team where he isn't carrying the offensive load and can get some much needed rest.
I, on the other hand, think it's a great pick up for Phoenix. Grant can score, is a decent defender, and can play the point guard position when it's called upon him to do so. I think if Phoenix can keep their core the same by keeping Amare, Marion, Bell, Nash, Diaw, and Barbosa they'll always be a favorite at going all the way to the championship.
Adding Hill to the mix only helps their chances in my opinion.

I may know a lot about basketball in terms of the concepts and all, but I'll admit I know nothing about the business side of it. Is there anyway to free up cap space? Like can't the Sixers free up some space by getting rid of ridiculous contracts?

Im pretty sure with Basketball its all guaranteed contracts, unlike football where they can cut a guy and the team doesn't owe them a dime. If you sign a 4 yr 40 mil contract that team owes you all that money. If a team cuts a player before the end of the contract that team will take some sort of cap hit For instance the Sixers are still paying Chris Weber and Aaron Mckie through next year. McKie has been retired for a year or two and Weber was released during last season.

It's a good move for Phoenix, but it doesn't shock me at all. Apparently, covering the Finals for ABC made him really want to play in them, so going to the Suns makes sense. He averaged 14 points per game last season with Jameer FREAKING Nelson as his point guard, so I imagine he could reach 18-20 with Steve Nash.
Hopefully his run in Phoenix will be a great one.
I hope (http://thirdquartercollapse.blogspot.com/2007/07/espn-grant-hill-to-sign-with-phoenix.html) so as well.

Teams that are over the salary cap can use a mid-level exception (MLE) once each off-season. It's worth about $6 million per season. The Raptors recently used theirs on Jason Kapono.
Trade Rasheed and $ for KG. Do it, Dumars.

News from teams that have fans in this thread:
Dallas has reached an agreement with Jerry Stackhouse. They'll now focus their attention on Gerald Wallace, P.J. Brown, James Posey, Matt Barnes (:o), and Joe Smith.
The Heat are in talks with point guards Mo Williams, Steve Blake, and Jason Hart.
The Cavaliers are going to have to make a tough decision on Anderson Varejao. If he brings back an offer sheet for more than the mid-level exception, they will try to work a sign-and-trade deal for him. Additionally, the Cavs may pursue Morris Peterson.
The Bulls may lose Andres Nocioni to the Grizzlies, who have made him an attractive offer. Pau Gasol called Nocioni to make a personal sales pitch. Meanwhile, GM John Paxson denied that he's talked to the Grizzlies about trading for Gasol.
Finally, no truth to the rumor that the Magic and Kings have had discussions involving a trade featuring Hedo Turkoglu and Ron Artest. ()

I just don't all the Mo Williams hype. Nice player, but some people are going crazy over this cat. He also appears to want more than the MLE. I rather have Blake, though Jason Hart would be the cheapest. While all this PG talk is going on (and rightfully so), I hope the Heatians brass are still looking into bringing in another scorer in the frontcourt.

Williams is going to ask for about $8 million or so, and Blake's the better poing guard anyway. It's just another point in his favor, really.
Jason Hart played well once he was freed from the Kings last season.
Brevin Knight hasn't been contacted, but he said he'd keep the line open if Miami called. They should do so. Dude is SERIOUSLY underrated. Like, when he touches the ball, there's a 36% chance that he will record an assist. He did that last year in Charlotte, of all places. Imagine if all he had to do was hit Shaq on the left block or Posey in one of the corners.:wow:

I am a little confused by this. I am pretty sure that Nocioni isn't a free agent, so what the heck is the Grizziles exactly trying to do? Get Nocioni to talk Paxson to trade him to Memphis for Gasol? Me confused.

I wouldn't Brevin if he comes on the cheap, but I much rather have Blake. He was the central figure in the largest high school recruiting scandal in Florida history (in which he was banned from playing in the state his senior year). The irony of him playing for the Heat is too good not to come to fruition.

He's a restricted free agent. I hear there's a 5Y/37M deal on the table from Chicago, but he's being courted by the Griz too.
