So, if you don't know, it is revealed in New Avengers 31 that the Skrulls are once again up to no good. One is actually masquerading as Elektra, until he/she/it winds up stabbed. Presumably this is going to lead up to a much larger story line that will undoubtedly bring together most of the Marvel MU eventually.
My question... Do you think Marvel would be stupid enough to concoct a plotline that says Tony Stark was being impersonated by a Skrull throughout the Civil War arc?
I really, really hope not. It'd be horribly cliche, and would ruin everything that was Civil War. Heck, I SIDED with Tony's stance in that storyline. If they go ahead and say he was being impersonated and have the "real" Iron Man just randomly show up I'd be quite upset.
I only ask because major character retcons do tend to happen after a character seemingly does something "evil" (and Marvel definitely made Iron Man out to be the bad guy in CW)...

I doubt a Skrull spy would have bothered to confront The Hulk in this weeks WWH #1....

Yeah, it's beyond corny, but if that's the best they can come up with to undo the damage done by Civil War, bring on the Skrullfest, baby.

Its not beyond reason, Marvel continues to jerk around with Iron Man, remember he went bad and the Avengers went back in time and brought a Teenage Tony Stark to the future to fight his older self.
If Marvel is dumb enough to pull a stunt like that, having a Skrull impersonate Tony Stark wouldn't be a surprise.

They'll probably have Tony turn out NOT to be a Skrull just to throw expectations off.

But why? I thought Civil War futher defined Iron Man as a character, and seperated him from the wackyness that is the Marvel Superhero community.
Besides... I AGREED with his cause in Civil War.

The fact that they've all really regressed from being actual heroes to simple costumed vigilantes who create nearly as much trouble as they prevent.
Marvel heroes ain't what they used to be.

I suggest to everyone here to havea look at this

IGN Comics: Wow. Okay. So Elektra's a Skrull… what's up with the baby?
Bendis: Well, the baby… what's going on is last summer the slogan was "Whose Side Are You On?" This year it's "Who Do You Trust?" What we've seen is that Elektra was a Skrull. Wolverine couldn't tell. Spider-Man couldn't tell. Dr. Strange couldn't tell at first glance. So the Skrulls have evolved or done something to themselves to make themselves undetectable to the most potent superhuman powers. A lot of that was hinted at in the Illuminati series when that group went to the Skrull Homeworld around the Kree/Skrull War and said, "Hey, we mean it. You're not coming to Earth anymore." But through the Illuminati and Annihilation series, a lot has been done to the Skrulls. They have no world now. They religiously believe the Earth to be theirs. It's been written in their scriptures.

Bendis promised that it won't be anything dumb like, "So and so was a skrull the whole time and caused Civil War".
But you know . . . those type of promises have been broken before.

Yes indeed and this sounds like the perfect excuse for them to correct errors and retcon some storylines as they feel the need.

Correct errors?
Iron Man's standpoint in Civil War represented a political viewpoint that basically exists in America today. It was necessary, and it made sense for his character.

I wasn't refering to Iron Man specifically. I was refering to the writing staff in general on the various other titles.
It's the perfect excuse for them to attempt to retcon if they so choose to.

wouldn't impersonating JARVIS be the perfect way for a skrull to infiltrate both the mighty avengers AND stark international?

Yeah, that would be clever enough, but
how much leaverage has Jervis on Tony?
I don't think he would be influential enough to make Tony go "his" way...
