Yes... I want to see a Patrick Wilson Nite-Owl manip.
And a Jason Patric Doc Manhattan manip would be nice too.

As a viewer of his past efforts, I'd unequivocally shout a resounding YES!
But I'm not a Hollywood casting director... more's the pity. Let's see.
Some old manips I did...
John Corbett as Manhattan (I'd still like to see him in the part):

Great manip! I completely sympathize with your dubiousness/skepticism. When I heard about Jane, I immediately took to google-images to see how it might work. I mean, didn't anyone else find that Punisher film completely laughable?
In any case, I found a photo that totally sold me. I posted it in the casting thread, then it abruptly and mysteriously vanished from its original source... CUE SPOOKY MUSIC! Anywho, fortunately for us "Carmine Falcone" from this very same forum put the pic up somewhere on the internets and posted a link:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l136/Facone_Snoek/Jane_Comedian.jpg
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l136/Facone_Snoek/Jane_Comedian.jpg (http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l136/Facone_Snoek/Jane_Comedian.jpg)
Doesn't this bloated spectacle make you forget all your doubts? Apparently he produced that bat-s**t crazy David Arquette movie "The Tripper" -- which, to me, indicates that the dude is intelligent (and boning Arquette's sista, but who among us will say boo to that?!?!). And while I find the prospect of Mel Gibson shooting a pregnant Vietnamese woman in the stomach rather eyebrow-raising, I will happily resign myself to trust that Snyder is making outright inspired casting choices.
Anyone up for manip-ing this pilled-up, glorious bastard?

I don't think prostethics are necessary, he has a scary looking face of himself. And the way Kovacs looks isn't as important as Rorschach's look. As long as he has red hair, so he should definately wear a wig.

It's veteran character actor Colfax Mingo. He is best known for his turn as "Professor Delacroix" in the short-lived Mr. Belvedere/My Two Dads crossover. He's out of the running, however, since he recently immolated himself on the steps of the capitol building in Topeka. A note found posthumously indicated that he did so in protest of cottage cheese. He was a loon, and would have been a cunning choice for our vigilante.

I'm not sure Selleck can bring the proper sadistic tone to the role. Also, they are going to have to pick people who can play anything from mid 20's to late 50's agewise (unless they hire 2 actors for each character), he's too old to play the young comedian.

agreed. i think as an actor though, in his prime, he would have done well. he wasn't known for a sadistic tone... but an actor is an actor. more of a fantasy pick for me.

Not a huge fan of all those choices but that's a nice poster.
its a crap ass poster, the watchmen poster needs to be eerie and vague to entice people to see it, like maybe just the pin with blood in a dark alley, then it says WATCHMEN, hell, that would kick ass

The poster needs to be something that is vague and mysterious, but still says something about the movie, grabs people's attention and says to them "This is not your typical superhero movie. This is not your typical thriller. This is not your typical anything."
...And just to be clear, to avoid misinterpretation, I'm not suggesting that as a tagline... I mean that metaphorically.
I'm not positive they should go in this direction, but character posters might work. Or, short of that, a Rorschach poster. Much like the movie, Rorschach himself is unlike anything most people have seen before.

Well, NONE of them are confirmed at all, so lets not jump to conclusions here.
And Rorschach will be wearing a mask most of the time, so a manip of him is pretty pointless, I guess.
I'll put up some of the others later. Anyone got a fullbody pic of a naked Crudup? :hyper: That way I could also make him about a foot taller...

That's how I felt too. Just another stiff-looking Silver Surfer in a blue glow.
But Snyder compared the CGI to Davy Jones and Co. in Pirates... rather than the SS, so that definitly comforts me somewhat. And with all CGI they have complete control over the character, whereas with a real actor things are more complex and limited thus more expensive.
But I really really hope that they'll make him look alive and dynamic (opposite SS) with lots of texture-anomalies. Maybe even make him slightly transluscent like a jellyfish, exposing his organs. I've seen an early concept-sketch of that.
Still, I would've liked to see what an actor painted blue and then CGI-enhanced would've looked like...

WHAT?
Apart from a couple of scenes there's no logically explanation for using CGI to portray Doctor Manhattan. Greengrass was planning to use a special kind of body paint to do the glowing in camera, too.
The CGI money could have been used to cast some better actor.

Better actor? Reeves maybe?
Believe me, Crudup is as good a contender as anybody.
And I meant that since they're going the CGI-route, then I'd rather have Snyder comparing a CGI-Manhattan to Davy Jones than to SS.
And you have more control with a CGI-character than you have with an actor that you have to manipulate with CGI and now I'm refering to making him bigger or making him fly etc.
But like you, I'd choose an actor in blue added CGI over a full CGI-rendition anyday, so chill...

That's very well done! If I may offer one suggestion: try to adjust the hydrogen atom symbol a bit so it looks more natural and contoured to this head. If you're using photoshop, it's the "warp" tool under Transform. Maybe even play with the blur (like 1 pixel to give it natural softness) and I think you've got perfection!

Are they gonna try replicate the whole effect of the comic, I wonder?
Save for the hatching lines that define his musculature so as not to make for a completely flat 2-D drawing on the page... no shadows or highlights fall upon Dr Manhattan's body; his surface repels them, an effect deliberately created to make him appear even more 'otherworldly'.
Nowhere is this effect better demonstrated than in the digitally recolored ABSOLUTE edition - it serves to reinforce the whole idea as described by Hollis Mason in Chap V. of his Under The Hood memoirs... that meeting Manhattan face-to-face makes you uneasy, the initial "shock of his physical presence" means "...your brain wants to scream, blow a fuse and shut itself down immediately, refusing to accept that he exists."

That's a good point. The only problem I see with that being put on film is that it might come off as bad cgi to the audience. It'd be really hard to pull that off, but it'd be cool to see them try something like it.
Yeah, I guess the glow from his skin will make him shadowless and 2D-like. Will his skin be shiny or matt? Will there be texture?
He's gonna be a little tricky to visualize, but I expect them to make him more fantastic looking than in the book possibly making him translucent, showing his organs and so on...

God, I hope they don't go Silver Surfer with him. I honestly think he doesn't need much work. Think about it for a second---if you saw a naked, BLUE man who has no eyes, and is GLOWING both inside and out, that's going to be pretty damned freaky.
I think that manip above is definitely headed in the right direction. The "texture" could easily just be muscle definition and natural shading---only, of course, unnatural. Just make it look a bit over-exposed and I think we're gold.

I had three thoughts about that idea:
1) Blake's already been cast;
2) Did you think of Phoenix simply on account of his hair-lip?
3) I'd like to see the dude act his way out of a wet paper bag first. Seriously. While Homeboy's turn in "Space Camp" got my attention, his performance in "Quills" set a threshold of embarrassment that is surpassed only by a small, elite group of hack-thesps (Brian Bosworth and Leonardo DiCaprio come to mind). And I don't even blame the dude for his M. Night roles because I do have an innate sense of compassion.

everyone was in their exact costumes
actually, it was kinda like the beginning of the incredibles.
i remember lots of crowds chearing, rock music in the background. the comedian's grin was positively evil as he fired his ak-47. doc manhattan was shiny, and looked a bit like that one manip of doc manhattan in the manips section. his face was sad and bored, always. silk spectre was freakin sexy, and ozymandias looked like a god, much like xerxes in 300. also the scene with the pedophile looked like a scene right outta seven.
dont remember too much though.

Since we're all outta movie manips for the time being and are instead choosing our own WATCHMEN inspired art, these two are my faves outside of Gibbons's own handiwork, courtesy of the maestros that are -
Mike Mayhew (LOOK! No purple pantaloons!):

Released last year in Italy by Lavieri publishing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of WATCHMEN and with the proceeds graciously going to the Italian Alzheimer Association charity, it features numerous themed essays (in Italian, obviously) and new work by a host of Euro artists to celebrate the landmark accomplishment of Mssrs. Moore, Gibbons, and Higgins that inspired them so, all for the bargain price of 15 Euros:

... but since he's gonna be CGI, I guess he's gonna be more... well... Silver Surfer-like looking with smooth skin and no human anomalies. Hopefully he'll still resemble Crudup.
This is probably one of the best manips featuring the actual actor that I've seen in the entire forum.

People keep wanting to put hair on Kelly Leak, but I think it might work better if he remains bald. I have an easier time picturing him with a bald head in prison than the red mop.
One more thing. Would anyone get a serious kick out of an inside joke that went something like Rorschach enters the bar all the patrons look his way in fear and latin man says under this breath "es un bandido?" Cause I would.
Back to the Dr. Manhattan/Crudup manip, who wants to start screwing with people on the IMDB board?

Thank everyone, I thought it's pretty meh. But yeah, they should make Nite Owl's costume from leather. Out of topic sort of; all those who make manips, isn't it a ***** to try and find the exact picture you need for your manip? I searched for that hand like an hour or something and I would have wanted a different kind of hand, because I wanted it to be more like in the original picture. Anyone feel me? It's really frustrating to search something for hours and not be able to do your manip, until you get that piece you need in it. Anyways, here's the inspiration for that pic. This one looks much cooler then my vision:

I had three thoughts about that idea:
1) Blake's already been cast;
Actually I thought of Phoenix because he first looks the role of the Comedian and he can sure as hell act; he's evil and psycotic in Gladiator and does a better Johnny Cash than Johnny Cash himself.

I can see where you're coming from... I haven't seen "Gladiator" because whenever I get the urge I come to senses, do some drugs, and watch "Blade Runner" for the bugillionth time; I saw "Quills" and laughed my balls off; I saw "Signs" and crapped myself with laughter. And so I really can't get on the J. Phoenix bandwagon.
Incidentally, I had the misfortune of seeing "Walk the Line" this weekend, and it was an abomination, really. Nevermind the literal white-washing of Vivian -- Phoenix sounded like a troglodyte masturbating in a VH1-caliber production.
Now, as for the Comedian we actually got, I have no freakin idea. Is anyone else still kinda made at Tom Jayne for not being interested in the part? I thought that guy was a comic geek!
