It's more a point for others watching the vicious beating than for the person themselves.

TheCorpulent1
10-18-2007, 10:13 AM
You should grab the issue out of their hands on the way to the cash register, roll it around a bat, and beat them into a bloody pulp with it. That way you keep Marvel from getting any money for it, you send a message to the others considering buying it, and you get to beat a guy senseless with a bat. Win/win/win, dude.

That's a good way to go as well, but I'd feel awful if that guy was just bringing the issue to the front to complain or if it was another of the faithful attempting to use it to beat someone's @ss. I'd rather wait till I'm sure the person is allying with the devil before I do something horrible to them.

Kind of a huge spoiler to drop as a random part of a Spider-Man story if that's the case. I know I, as more of a Thor fan than a Spider-Man fan, would be upset about Loki's return not taking place in Thor's comic, just as I thought it was lame for Thor's return to take place in the FF comic when we thought that's what was going on at the time.

10-18-2007, 01:40 PM
JMS is weird that way.

TheCorpulent1
10-18-2007, 01:59 PM
Eh, every writer continues stories from comic to comic that they're working on, it seems. Slott took Gauntlet from She-Hulk to the Initiative and still hasn't followed up on the suit of armor that Gauntlet and Southpaw's bits come from. Bendis carried Echo and Luke Cage over from DD to New Avengers, too. I guess I can't really fault JMS for doing the same with other story elements, but I don't like it in Thor's case. Loki is Thor territory and should be dealt with in Thor's comic, now that he's got one again. That's blatant fanboyism on my part, but I don't care; it's ****ing Thor. :cmad:

PhotoJones
10-18-2007, 02:09 PM
I agree. When Slott does it, though, it feels more natural, or something. I don't know. When Bendis or JMS do it, I get a sense of ego instead of organic storytelling. That's probably just my bias against the two, though.

I get that feeling from Bendis. Not as much from JMS. I've never thought he had a huge ego, just that he had some really bad ideas that he was allowed to follow up on when he shouldn't have been.

PhotoJones
10-18-2007, 02:22 PM

I said that added to the good of the movie. In the lion king he was annoying at best. Loves Labour's Lost I did not see but based on the title it sucked, the producers is better without lane, didn't seeing nickleby. You had to go there with birdcage. When a robin williams acts circles around you and still seems to be a more subtle actor then you've got issues.

Yes, and when he drops the "routine", I think he's very good: Good Will Hunting, Dead Again (a very small, but great role), and Insomnia. All great jobs by him. But the rest of the crapola he churns out, just painful to watch.

I am joking a little bit about Williams. He's clearly had some great roles. But if I had to sit across the dinner table from him, I'd probably just kill myself instead.

No, but these are: RV, Man of the Year, Patch Adams, Flubber, Father's Day,Jack, Nine Months, Cadillac Man, Club paradise, The Best of Times, Moscow on the Hudson

Is this what were going to spend the rest of the day at, listing his filmology?

Hook and Aladdin don't count. They're kiddie movies, and frankly I thought Hook suuuuucked. (More for Tinkerbells whining than anything Williams did, but it was still stupid. Dustin Hoffman was the only good thing in that movie.) And I think Good Morning Vietnam is highly over-rated and actually a good example of his "schtick." The others I'll concede along with some I'd forgotten about: Awakenings and Fisher King.

I don't know why you're getting all bent. I've said he's done some good things. Are you seriously saying you liked Jack?

PhotoJones
10-19-2007, 10:14 AM

Ooh, hey, what if it was delayed to coincide with Thor? The only person on that picture who could do the magic necessary and who would demand a price like love is Loki, so maybe JMS planned for the two comics to kinda sorta crossover by having Loki reappear in ASM? Also lame, but maybe a bit more plausible.

Couple things. One, be strong. You don't have to buy OMD. Don't do it. Second, I'm starting to think that maybe you're right about Thor/OMD being delayed to tie into each other. Maybe not a tie-in per se, but if JMS wants to use Loki in OMD, he's going to have to bring him back in Thor.

Well, the BIG SECRET is that the "Gwen" that had sex with Norman was really a shape-changed Howard the Duck, who, thinking that Gwen and Norman dated, just went along so as not to arouse suspicion...

The REAL reason for the accelerated growth is because they're half mallard and they aren't around right now due to migration.

And THAT is a better ret-con than you will EVER get from Marvel. ;)

Maybe the retcon will be that Gwen will still be alive and will save Aunt May, and that the Gwen we thought who died was really the a goblin-aged daughter that time travelled to the past to protect the "gwen in hiding" only to get killed by her father in that classic, thinking it was her....

And maybe the real Gwen never really slept with Norman...Maybe that too was a quickly aged gwen daughter who time travelled to the past to keep her mom from ever sleeping with Norman and slept with him in her place. That way, her mom would be herself and Gwen was never a tramp, or dead?

:oldrazz:

Uh...yeh...i guess i don't see how Gwen could save everyone afterall. Nice of them to throw her pic in for the fun of it...:whatever: ...bringing Gwen back somehow would be NOT COOL.

TheCorpulent1
11-24-2007, 06:35 PM
No, it wouldn't. Of more consequence, however, is the fact that it would run counter to Marvel's own goals with OMD, which are to end Peter and MJ's marriage and to return Peter to bachelor status so he can get back that holy grail of juggling hos, which Joe Q, Tom Brevoort, Mark Waid, and various other Marvel people have somehow come to believe is the secret to Spider-Man's reinvigoration.

JackRembrandt
11-24-2007, 06:59 PM
I'm wondering if this isn't a direction change at all and instead is just a storyline in which Peter and MJ's love is strong enough to find a way through whatever magical mumbo jumbo will try to erase it. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still married this time next year.

TheCorpulent1
11-24-2007, 07:08 PM
If that's the case, I look forward to reading ASM with the new teams in a year. I might even grab the back-issues and see what led up to their "remarriage." But that'll be after they're back together.

JackRembrandt
11-24-2007, 07:51 PM
I didn't necessarily mean remarriage in the sense that they would find each other and fall in love "for the first time". I meant being able to will themselves past they mindwipe, or just find a way to reverse it's effects.

TheCorpulent1
11-24-2007, 08:06 PM
I meant however they get back together. Doesn't matter how, although having their memories back would be preferable.

JackRembrandt
11-24-2007, 08:10 PM
It matters to me. I'm not interested in rereading the developing love between Peter and MJ. It was done perfectly the first time. They're already in love. Marvel can take a break from it with this story if they'd like, as long as it returns fully intact the way it was (if not more) before.

farmernudie
11-25-2007, 08:39 AM
Yeh, after all of the years and JQ tirades against the marriage....any storyline does NOT feel like a STORY if it involves breaking up the marriage in any way.

It feels like an AGENDA...and he is sucking the fun outta the comics that way.

JQ with his strong overly spoken anti-marriage stance has almost made spidey comics political in a sense and not very amusing to read.

TheCorpulent1

A've noticed a lot of Hitch's recent covers suck. His Giant-Size Avengers cover is disgusting.

That was pretty terrible, I didn't even recognize it as Hitch as first.

Maybe all the flack he took for delaying the Ultimates half a dozen months or so has ruined his confidence and by extension his art. :csad: Poor Hitch.

That one went in the opposite direction on shading. It looked like he got bored and quit halfway through, rather than overloading his figures with smudges everywhere.

Hitch has more money then me, and therefore, I'm not capable of feeling bad for him. :o
