The judge in Britney Spears' other court case -- the one for driving without a valid license back in August -- continued the case today for the last time. Superior Court Judge T.K Herman said if the legal matter is not resolved by February 20, it will go to trial.

TMZ has learned both sides are still working out a deal. We're told prosecutors wanted to put Brit on 12 months probation, but agreed to let go of probation if she agreed to pay the maximum fine of $3,000. Brit's lawyer, Michael Flanagan, won't accept those terms and wants the misdemeanor charge lowered to a fix-it ticket.

What an idiot. $3,000 is chump change for Britney. Driving without a license is hardly like driving with a busted headlight.

Those closest to her speak out:

On being a child star: "She was the bread winner in her family," says one former manager. "And when you know everyone's living off you, you learn not to trust." Moreover, again like most child stars, "she was never really taught how to live. Basic things: how to balance a checkbook, how things get done."

On her breakup with Justin: The breakup, according to those closest to Spears, began her personal collapse. "Ever since then," says one friend, "she's been mad at the world."

On Chaotic and her relationship with Kevin: "Chaotic destroyed the image that we had worked so carefully to create," says one of her advisers at the time, who opposed the project. "She thought that if she showed the world everything, everyone would love her for it. What it did, instead, was make her look like white trash - and that is not what she is. She's better than that. It created an appetite for this wild and crazy girl and created this spiral where nothing can satisfy that appetite."

On her brief time in rehab: She ended her rehabilitation early "because that would have required her to admit, in front of the world, that she had problems. That was the one thing she couldn't do," says one of Britney's closest companions at this time, sounding eaten by frustration. "Is there anyone on the planet, except Britney Spears, who cannot see that Britney has a problem? After that, she pushed her family, literally everyone, away."

What will it take to save her? Her former manager Johnny Wright says "I'm not pointing fingers, but I can't believe that she woke up one morning and said, 'I don't want my family, or anyone else I knew, to be in touch with me anymore.' "People say she needs to go to rehab. I think she just needs a friend - somebody not caught up in Hollywood, not looking for a paycheck. Somebody she trusts has to step up and break it down for her."

Among the most shocking revelations in Gross' s article comes from an exclusive interview with Danny Haines, an vulnerable 29-year-old man who met Britney Spear-de facto manager/publicist/confidante Sam Lutfi, over MySpace in the fall of 2005. Haines divulges shocking details about Lutfi's dark past (including at least three outstanding restraining orders and a violent temper) and how he may be a driving force behind Britney's actions.

On their relationship: To Haines's fractured ego, Lutfi's social skills and emotional intelligence were magnetic. He encouraged Haines to "stand up for himself" and at the same time worked to become indispensable to him. Lutfi ingratiated himself with Haines's family, acting as a go-between and informal counselor. Haines says that their relationship was not romantic or sexual but that Lufti was more jealous than a lover. He could be supportive one day and vicious the next, leaving voicemails tracing extremes from "You're a worthless motherf***er" to "I love you, man. I love you to death." He says that…Lutfi reserved most of his energy for emotional blackmail and extortion. "Everybody hates you," he wrote to Haines, suggesting that Haines should just kill himself: "Seriously, sleeping pills, LOTS of them…"

The threats: When Haines finally cut the cord, Lutfi humiliated him. He e-mailed naked photographs of Haines to his family, friends, colleagues and employer. He texted and called incessantly, telling Haines he hoped his sister would be "raped to death" according to the restraining order…such communications moved Haines to seek the restraining order, which also protects his mother from being contacted by Lutfi.

Haines, whose relationship with Lutfi was the subject of a few obscure blog comments after Lutfi's other restraining orders wre reported in December, says that he subsequently received an e-mail from Lutfi's sister's address, which he read as a warning: "One of your friends is writing to some magazines about your history with my brother…I don't think that's wise for him to do." The warning came with what sounded like a threat: "Those pictures and your history isn't so positive either and I'm sure you wouldn't want that to be public as well."

"If Sam's not doing anything wrong with Britney, if he's not worried about being exposed," Haines asks, "why would his sister be saying, Don't talk about my brother and his past?"

Britney's parents weigh in: Informed of the details of Haines' relationship with Lutfi, Jamie and Lynne Spears, who declined to discuss Lutfi on the record, both expressed grave concern to Blender about his ongoing involvement in their daughter's life and have encouraged Haines to go public with the story.

There was major drama at Britney's house last night.

And the paparazzi just happened to "conveniently" capture Osama Lutfi sending these rather ominous text messages to Spears' on/off paparazzo buttboy, Adnan Ghalib.

In no uncertain terms Lutfi is telling Ghalib that he is toxic to Spears and needs to leave her alone…or she may end up dead.

Britney and Osama got into a huge fight Monday night.

Adnan showed up to try and make things better but was denied at the gate.

Osama thinks the paparazzi boyfriend is killing Britney.

But Adnan thinks differently!

The paparazzo released the following statement through his photo agency about last night's shenanigans.

"Adnan did not try to break into Britney’s house.
Anyone who claims that to be the case has been severely misinformed.

The truth is that Sam Lutfi started an argument with Britney and the two ended up in a screaming fight. Sam continued to verbally abuse Britney as she sat barefoot on the curb at her Summit home crying holding her dog London.

Britney called Adnan for help and he heard the distress in her voice and drove to the Summit immediately. While outside the gates he was denied access as Sam Lutfi had informed the guards that he was not allowed entry. TMZ has been reporting for weeks that Britney's family and some professionals in her life have been planning a "creative way" to deal with her mental problems. It looks like the time has arrived.

Sources told TMZ "if it happens," it should happen this week. Last night, Brit's mom, Lynne, her dad, Jamie, cousin Alli, as well as Sam Lutfi and Adnan Ghalib all showed up at Britney's house and were all there at the same time.

Brit's mom and dad (and others) have known for months that a bipolar disorder -- and not substance abuse -- is at the root of her problems. They cannot involuntarily commit her (impossible under these circumstances) and Brit has refused to voluntarily enter a hospital or even undergo evaluation for the problem. But now the plan is underway.

Here's what's significant: Britney has not spoken to her mom for a while -- no contact at all. Last night, Britney and Lynne (along with Sam) left the house at one point and went to the drugstore, so it seems they are now interacting.

There were signs last night that Britney didn't feel as warm toward her dad, that she didn't want anything to do with him.

This move has been in the planning stages for well over a month. It should begin to unfold IF Britney cooperates, and that is the wild card.

But, this "creative" intervention is different from what her divorce lawyers pitched to Commissioner Scott Gordon last week. They are not involved in this one.

Brit's new ride is a black on black two-seater for which she shelled out, in full, $55,000 cash. Sources close to the deal tell us she picked it out on Saturday, but signed the papers today.

Also..

K-Fed's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, has filed a motion asking the court to make Britney pay attorney's fees. If the motion is granted, we've learned Brit will be on the hook for more than $500,000 since last July.

Here's how it breaks down: The court has already awarded Kaplan $120,000 for fees earned between July 30 and October 8, 2007. We've learned in today's motion Kaplan is asking for fees in excess of $300,000 for work performed between October 8 and January 24, 2008. On top of that, Kaplan is asking for in excess of $100,000 for fees he will accumulate between now and the end of the custody trial, set for April.

A hearing on Kaplan's request for attorney's fees is set for March 10.

Britney’s Parents Finally Intervene

Around 6 p.m. last night, Britney and Sam had a heated argument which resulted in tears for Brit. She then stormed out of his car, just outside the gates to her Summit Circle home, and sat on the side of the road sobbing in front of her favorite people—the paparazzi.

UsMag reports that the fight was “fueled by Lutfi’s insistence she speak to her mother, Lynne, Lutfi wanting her to see a psychologist, as well as Lutfi’s refusal to let Spears see her paparazzi boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib.”

Shortly after, PapSmear arrived and was not granted entry into her gated community. (thanks Sam!)

At 9:07 p.m. Spears’ father, Jamie, arrived at the Summit home. After sitting outside the gates for a few minutes, he finally went inside. Lynne arrived soon after. Brit hadn’t seen her mom for 7 months at this point.

At around 9.30 p.m. Spears left her home and was seen driving around LA with PapSmear but the duo returned after 11 p.m., and Jamie had already left the house.

At 1:20 a.m., Spears went to nearby Longs Drugs with her mother, Lynne, and Lutfi.

TMZ reports that this intervention move has been planned for quite some time, and if Britney cooperates, things might get better for her soon.

A source says,

"They hate each other. Sam doesn’t think Adnan is good enough for Britney and Adnan hates the control Sam has on her. Britney’s caught in the middle.

Sam has always given tips to X-17 while Adnan obviously wants everything going through Finalpixx. These two guys are making money off Britney but she’s too blind to see it. It’s tragic that her life has come down to this."

According to a source close to Britney Spears‘ attorney Anne Kiley, Brit will be going to court on February 4 to seek therapeutic visitation of the boys.

The plan is that Brit Brit will show up (plan fails before it even begins) and will formally request therapeutic visitation with her babies SP and JJ. This would also involve a court-appointed therapist who will observe the family in action.

A family law specialist tells PageSix that although what Britney is requesting is not common in California, it might still be granted.

The specialist went on to say,

The therapist would coach Britney, and tell her what is and isn’t appropriate, and give her cues on how to handle the boys if they get fussy. The visit could take place at Brit’s house, or a neutral location. Commissioner Gordon has to be stringent with limitations regarding the boys because of their ages, vulnerability and inability to report anything bad.

Meanwhile, even though Brit’s Black American Express Card was declined last night at a drugstore, she still paid for breakfast for mom and exploiting manager, went shopping at the Century City mall, and dished out $55,000 IN CASH for a brand new black on black SLK 350 Mercedes Benz. Phew, good thing Britney knows how to manage her finances.

The magazine says Lynne spoke to them after having landed in LA on Sunday.

Awww! So, basically, they had a reporter camped out at the airport and asked her some questions after she landed.

Britney has seen doctors who have been referred by other doctors, plus doctors who have been referred by celebrities Britney knows, and doctors referred by her lawyers, family and friends. We're told the process has been excruciating for her, partly because her disease is severe.

Sources tell slightly different stories about the efficacy of the medication. A friend says when Britney takes her medicine she is like "a different person -- normal and sweet." But she takes her meds for a while and then feels as if she can live without it -- so she stops taking them -- and her condition quickly deteriorates. But a professional tells TMZ flatly, "The medication just isn't working."

That same professional tells TMZ, "She's really trying. Whether it works -- we'll have to see." That person also says it's extremely frustrating when the media shows video of Britney out on the town acting crazy, adding, "She has a disease. Sometimes when you see her she's in the middle of an episode. It's like mocking someone with Down Syndrome."

Britney Officially on Psychiatric Hold

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ a L.A. County Superior Court judge has just signed a "5150," meaning Britney Spears is on a three-day psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center.

We're told there is a "good possibility" that it will be extended to 14 days. We've also learned there have been several parallel attempts to get Britney on a 5150. Her lawyers, Anne Kiley and Tara Scott, secured a new psychiatrist late last week -- he's the one who triggered the 5150 last night.

At the same time, we're told Britney's mother, father and brother have been "working closely with the LAPD for weeks" to get her back in for psychiatric care. There is now a dogfight between Britney's family and Sam Lutfi over who will make medical decisions, however, that fight is now put on hold because the judge now makes the call.

Once the psychiatric hold ends, something has to give.

An ambulance left Britney Spears' house around 1:20 A.M this morning. The windows were covered and a police convoy of what seems like DOZENS of cops lead the way.

Britney was in the ambulance and she arrived at UCLA Medical Center around 1:35 A.M.

Britney is going to be put under a 5150 psychiatric hold at the hospital for 72 hours. Hopefully her treatment will be extended.

Spears has been under the treatment of a psychiatrist, who was at her home Wednesday night and placed a call to the authorities, which triggered Brit's hospitalization.

Britney had not slept in days and her shrink was concerned for her deteriorating condition.

This is all just so tragic.

Our thoughts are with Britney and her family.

Hopefully the stars will align and she will finally get better now, once and for all.

It was unclear exactly when they had received the call, but it was apparent that the operation had been carefully planned over a period of time. After an extremely long and trying night, Lynne Spears finally left her daughter's side at 5:26am this morning.

Brit's family, who have largely been estranged from the pop princess until recently, rallied around their troubled daughter, who was taken to the UCLA Medical Center early this morning around 1am.

X17online spoke to a former UCLA psych ward resident, who's painted a grim picture of what Britney Spears will be going through at the medical center over the next few days.

According to the source:


Britney will be held for at least 72 hours, and up to 14 days if the LA County officer deems her a danger to herself and others.


Britney will be supervised around the clock by nurses and security, unable to even bathe by herself.


Over the first few days, Britney will be encouraged to sleep as much as possible, and will be administered sleeping pills, as well as Ativan (an anti-anxiety medication) to help her do so. Meds are doled out three times a day.


Visitors are allowed to come one hour a day during the week, between 6:30 and 7:30, but on the weekends the stay is extended from 1-3. Visitors are allowed to bring food (although our source says UCLA's food is pretty decent!) but they cannot keep it or any other contraband (sharp objects, razors, etc.) in their rooms.


The psych ward consists of two wings, with 10 rooms each. Although there are 2 beds per room, it's doubtful that Britney is sharing with anyone. None of the rooms have televisions, although there is a tv in the common area.


The patients are divided into two categories: addicts and bi-polars, with the highest risk patients restrained by wristbands in their beds.


Our source said that most of the patients are from 18-50 years old, with at least half of the residents were considered high risk, and therefore restrained.


The ward is an extremely "tough" environment to live in, with patients getting quite agitated and screams being heard all hours of the night. Our source said there were also many fights that broke out in the common area, due to general paranoia, not to mention the fact that many patients are detoxing.


After the first few days, Britney will most likely be put on Depakote Seroquel and Lithium for the bi-polar, and Ativan for anti-anxiety.


A doctor will pay Britney a visit once a day, asking her questions like "are you able to sleep?" "Are you hearing voices?" "Are you paranoid?" "Do you feel like harming yourself?" "Do you think about committing suicide?"


Britney will not be allowed outside during the first 72 hours, after that, she'll be allowed to visit an outdoor court for one hour a day, at 3pm.


There are several different groups to keep patients busy throughout the day, including Arts & Crafts, as well as a group called "Journal", where patients are encouraged to read the newspapers to keep up on current events and life on the outside.


She's allowed to be in her own clothes, with a green, hospital issue robe worn on top, and nothing else but a wristband that contains her social security number and her date of admittance.

So it is with Britney Spears, the troubled pop star and America's favourite tabloid fodder, who was back under psychiatric evaluation in a Los Angeles hospital last night after the latest in a series of highly publicised meltdowns.

As the singer's family and manager bickered over the right to direct her treatment after a court-ordered commitment into mental health care, a British photographer who has quit the chasing media pack warned the hounding could kill her.

Nick Stern has resigned from Splash, a Los Angeles-based, British-owned celebrity picture agency, in protest at the "aggressive" tactics employed in pursuing Spears, and predicted tragedy.
"Directly or indirectly, Britney is going to come to some horrific end, or a member of the public will," he said. "It's not what's being done, it's the way it's being done. As she continues to deteriorate psychologically, I just can't see a positive way out."

The biggest threat, Stern said, came from the high-speed convoy of photographers' cars and motorcycles that follow Spears' every move through Los Angeles. The pursuit reached a new frenzy in the early hours of yesterday when the paparazzi tailed an ambulance and police escort taking the 26-year-old singer to hospital for the second time this month.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the trail of emergency vehicles that took Spears to the UCLA Medical Centre stretched longer than a football field. Brit's pal Sam paid a visit to the troubled pop star yesterday around 4pm. We're told that Brit's refused to see any family members; the only one she's allowed in her room so far is Sam.

An X17online source and former patient of the UCLA Medical Center tells us that as part of her treatment, Britney will be visited by four to five doctors today to conduct an evaluation of her mental state.

According to the source, Britney cannot be held against her will for more than 72 hours if she is deemed stable, which will be determined today. Apparently, only half of the patients in the psych ward are held involuntarily.

The results will be reported to the family, as well as the state. A Los Angeles County Officer is the only one who can determine whether or not Britney is ill enough to be held against her will, although her therapist can argue for a suspension of her driver's license.

Should Britney choose to stay and seek treatment on her own accord, she can expect to be enrolled in a four week recovery program, which consists of meetings and group therapy aimed at teaching her about her disease and how to control it.

On the plus side, The judge in the hearing today has issued a restraining order against SOMEONE -- ordering that person to stay away from Britney Spears.

Although the judge didn't say specifically who that someone was -- it's clear that person is Sam Lutfi.

The judge found, in effect, that Lutfi has been harassing Britney. Thus the civil harassment restraining order.

This will effectively bar Lutfi from going to the hospital.

Sources tell TMZ Britney's divorce lawyers and the lawyers representing the conservatorship may collide in a "last one standing" dispute.

We know Britney's divorce team at the law firm of Trope and Trope has been dealing with newly-exiled Sam Lutfi and believes he is well-meaning. Jamie Spears, the freshly appointed co-conservator, has made it clear he dislikes the Trope firm and wants them out of Britney's life - in large part because of the firm's alliance with Sam.

Lutfi is furious at the commissioner who issued the various orders today and has been in touch with Trope and Trope numerous times this afternoon. Based on those conversations, the firm believes the orders defy Britney's wishes because she feels great ill will toward her dad.

So here's the scenario. It's possible Trope and Trope could go to court Monday at 1:30 and challenge the choice of conservator. If Jamie Spears is in it for the long hall, it's also possible one of his first orders of business will be to 86 Trope and Trope from Britney's life.

Minutes ago, Britney Spears made two calls at the UCLA Psych Ward and went crazy on the phone after learning that her dad is now the conservator of her estate.

In a heavy British accent, a ballistic Brit screamed (about her parents), "I'm so sick of all of this they can have the God Damn house and stick it up their f***ing asses. Actually, no they can't."

Brit, who sounded drugged up, was furious that her dad became a conservator of her estate. She was screaming at the top of her lungs, at times impossible to understand. At one point she screamed, "Nobody's taking my house. Who is my family?"

Britney said she did not want her parents near her home and at one point said she would go to court to fight them.

She is under the impression she's getting out of the hospital tonight.

Britney's manager, who's had a restraining order taken out against him by her parents, continues his ugly smear campaign against Jamie & Lynne Spears.

In an interview with Us Weekly, he says:

"Oh boy, her family is crazy!

It's funny because that's what the doctors say when they meet the family. They always come back and say, ‘You know, [her problems] are inherited, right?’

It’s just so sad. It's shared equally from both of her parents.

A Los Angeles court has awarded Britney Spears' father control of his daughter's affairs following her admission to a hospital psychiatric unit for evaluation, officials said.

Court Commissioner Reva Goetz named Jamie Spears and an attorney as conservators of the troubled singer's multi-million dollar estate, one day after she was rushed to hospital amid renewed concern for her mental health.

The decision came in an emergency hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court. A further hearing has been scheduled for Monday.

The conservatorship cedes control over the singer's liquid assets, including her home, to Mr Spears, who petitioned the court for control in an emergency hearing.

In addition, the court issued a "civil harassment restraining order" against Sam Lutfi, Superior Court public information officer Allan Parachini said.

Mr Lutfi is Spears' self-styled manager and confidante and has been seen with the singer almost constantly in recent months as her life has seemed to spin out of control.

Spears' father now has the ability to supersede any other powers-of-attorney that may have been issued by the singer, cancel contracts she may have signed, and bar people from visiting her in the Los Angeles area hospital.

On Thursday, Spears was taken from her home by ambulance to the UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles and admitted for a three-day psychiatric evaluation.

UCLA Medical Center appears to be preparing for Britney's possible release tonight.

Just after midnight tonight will mark the end of the 72-hour initial hold period of the 5150 hold Britney has been under. So what will happen next?

The Medical Center security has been beefed up since yesterday -- there are guards at the entrance to the building and the paparazzi have been forced out of the parking area.

Doctors were expected to evaluate Britney's condition today and to begin to formulate their recommendation to the court as to whether her 5150 hold should be extended or whether Britney should be given the right to make her own decision as to her treatment -- meaning she could choose to leave the hospital and NOT be treated.

The Los Angeles Police Department were called to Britney's house on Friday after her parents discovered several items missing.

Lap top? Sex tapes? Yes! Yes!

After Spears' father Jamie won legal control over Brit Brit at an emergency hearing Friday, he and ex-wife Lynne returned to the house "shocked" to find valuable items of their daughter's "had been stolen."

They called the cops and filed a report.

Spears' folks believe that items were taken after their daughter was taken to the UCLA Medical Center early Thursday morning.

Britney Spears' parents allege that the singer's acting manager, Sam Lutfi, was drugging her to control her, according to the petition for the restraining order against him, released by Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday (February 5).

Lutfi, who already has had three other parties file restraining orders against him, is ordered in this latest one issued on Friday to stay 250 yards away from Britney, her homes, her cars, her children's homes and child-care facilities, her sibling's homes, her parents' homes, and UCLA Medical Center, where she's currently hospitalized. The order was extended on Monday to include no contact with Spears by phone, e-mail or text message.

Since meeting the singer "in or about" October, Lutfi has "essentially moved into Britney's home and has purported to take control of her life, home, and finances," according to Jamie Spears, the singer's father, who has temporary conservator powers over the singer's person and estate. "Mr. Lutfi has drugged Britney," Jamie wrote. "He has cut Britney's home phone line and removed her cell-phone chargers. He yells at her. He claims to control everything — Britney's business manager, her attorneys and the security guards at the gate."

He asked for the restraining order "to avoid the risk of physical harm to Britney by Mr. Lutfi and to allow her to undergo necessary medical treatment without interference by Mr. Lutfi," according to the petition.

A declaration from Lynne Spears, the singer's mother, explained in more detail some incidents in late January that gave both parents cause for concern. Lynne wrote that she, her friend Jackie and Jamie went to visit Britney's home on January 28 because they heard on the news that their daughter had been in a big argument with Lutfi and that she was crying. When they arrived, they found Lutfi, who told them that Britney only wanted to see her mother and that she was frightened to see her father. The paparazzi were allowed inside — but not Jamie Spears.

"Two or three paparazzi came into the house and entered the kitchen," Lynne wrote. "They greeted Sam. The paparazzi reported to Sam where Britney currently was. ... The paparazzi reported to Sam and addressed him with great respect. They treated him like a general."

Lynne said that Sam tried to order her and Jackie around as well, and when they objected, he allegedly told them, "If you don't listen to me, I'm going to make your name sh-- in the papers."

Lynne said she heard details of her daughter's fight with Lutfi, in which she claims Lutfi told Britney "that she was an unfit mother, a piece of trash and a whore, that she cared more about Adnan [Ghalib, paparazzo and friend of Britney's] than she cares about her kids, and she does not deserve her kids." Lynne said that when Lutfi screamed at her, Britney said, "Sam treats me like that."

Britney, Lynne wrote, was in "an agitated state" and kept changing her clothes as well as her dogs' clothes. Lynne then discovered her daughter was taking the antipsychotic medications Risperdal and Seroquel, but didn't seem always to be aware of it or know why. (She also later learned Britney was taking the stimulant Adderall when she was checked into UCLA Medical Center).

"Britney spoke to me with a tone and with the understanding of a very young girl," Lynne wrote. "Britney ... picked up a bottle of pills and read the label and asked us, 'What does insomnia mean?' Sam told her that the pills would help her stay awake."

Risperdal, when used in the treatment of bipolar mania, actually can cause side effects of sleepiness and restlessness, while Seroquel can also cause drowsiness and sluggishness, according to the Web sites for both prescription medications. Lynne wrote that Lutfi said he ground up the pills and put them in Britney's food. Lynne also wrote that Lutfi said his plan was to get Britney into a sleep-induced coma so that her doctor could give her drugs "to heal her brain."

Lutfi, after trying to encourage Britney to drink tequila and then wine, went upstairs with the singer. Lynne wrote that Lutfi later admitted giving Britney something to make her "more lighthearted, happy and fun." Lynne described Lutfi trying to encourage them to drink tequila shots, and when they refused that, wine, but thought she saw him crushing something on the counter behind the raised bar. (Lynne wrote that she later couldn't sleep that night, nor could her friend Jackie, despite being up past 4 a.m., and both felt like they had drunk coffee, even though they hadn't actually consumed the beverage. She also wrote that Britney didn't sleep either and was very agitated.)

Lynne said during the evening, she learned Lutfi had disabled her daughter's cars, disposed of her cell-phone chargers and made the house phones unworkable, but confused Britney to make her think it was her fault. Lynne also wrote that Adnan Ghalib had called her out of concern to tell her Lutfi hid the phones and told Britney she'd lost them, and that he hid her dog as well. "She looks for him all over the house crying and then Sam brings out the dog from the hiding place and acts like her savior," Lynne wrote. Perhaps to counteract Ghalib's influence, Lynne said in her declaration that Lutfi asked her to tell Britney that Ghalib is gay, and to pretend he was in the bathroom when he actually had left the house.

During a shopping spree later that evening at Rite Aid, Lynne wrote that Lutfi claimed to have control over everyone in her daughter's life. "You better learn that I control everything," she claimed he told her. "I control Howard Grossman, Britney's business manager. I control her attorneys and the security guards at the gate. They don't listen to Britney, they listen to me. That's why Jamie was gone tonight." Britney later asked for her father, Lynne said in her declaration, saying, "I want my Daddy up here. I want to talk to my Daddy."

When Britney asked about seeing her children, Lynne said that Sam lied to her and told her she'd see her children two days later, even though she currently has no custodial visitation rights. Lynne wrote, "Britney then said, 'What do I have to do to see them?' Sam responded, 'Take the pills I tell you to take.' Britney said, 'I don't like the pills and I don't like the psychiatrist. Can't I see another psychiatrist so I can see my babies?' Sam responded, 'If I told you to take 10 pills a day, you should do what I tell you to see your babies.' "

At that point, Lynne's friend Jackie intervened, she wrote, telling the singer, "Britney, your parents can help you find a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist needs to get to know you to give you the right medicine." Lutfi interrupted, Lynne wrote, asking Britney, "Why don't you get back with Kevin [Federline, her ex-husband]?" With the subject changed, Britney responded, "I'll do anything to get them back," her mother claimed.

Lynne wrote that Lutfi later claimed if he wasn't around to give the singer her medicine, Britney would commit suicide. She wrote, "Then he said to me, 'If you try to get rid of me, she'll be dead and I'll p--- on her grave.' "

As of Monday afternoon, Lutfi was resisting efforts to be served with the restraining order.

And he's hoping for a big pay day!

"He's already reached out to a few of the entertainment news shows," a TV insider tells us. "He's trying to broker the best deal."

Don't be surprised if Entertainment Tonight and The Insider pay him for an interview they stretch out over a week, like they did with Britney's paparazzo boy toy, Adnan Ghalib.

In an interview with Us, Brit's pal/manager Sam Lutfi talks about what it's like to live with Brit's bi-polar disease, and admits to giving her a "handful of pills" right before she was taken to the UCLA psych ward.

"In the depressive episodes, it's all crying. But in the manic episode, there's very little crying or sympathy or compassion. She becomes another person. She becomes somebody that just doesn't care about anybody or anything," Sam tells the mag.

He goes on to say "when the pink wig comes on, it's getting bad."

Sam claims that he, Britney and her psychiatrist are the "only ones" who know what brought on her bi-polar disease, an incident that happened roughly five years ago.

Sam then admitted to what Lynne Spears accused him of doing in the restraining order filed yesterday - feeding her daughter medication. "I said these pills are working wonders, they are miracle pills."

Sam also claims that Brit said he was "better family than you guys [her parents] will ever be!"

Britney Spears has been released from the psychiatric ward at UCLA Medical Center, the L.A. Times is reporting.

According to the paper, Spears slipped quietly out -- compared to the massive fanfare that went on the night she went in.

A law enforcement source tells TMZ the hospital let her go "because she was no longer required to stay there after 11:30 AM." We have not confirmed this independently, however, if the hospital decides Britney is no longer a danger to herself or others, the hospital loses its basis to hold her against her will.

That's right, sources close to the Spears family reveal exclusively to Access Hollwyood that Jamie is planning to live with Brit Brit.

He will monitor her along with another person that will act as a guardian/sobriety coach, the source revealed. “[They will] try to keep her calm,” added the insider.

- Around 5:20 pm PT, Britney and Adnan visit the office of Spears' new attorny, Adam Streisand, hired to contest the conservatorship the court instated over the former pop star.

- Around 7:00pm PT, Britney managed to sneak out of Streisand's office building and return to the Beverly Hills Hotel! According to a source, a paparazzo from Adnan's photo agency, FinalPixx, snuck them out of the building by hiding Adnan and Brit under a black blanket in the back of his car.

- Back at the Beverly Hills Hotel, several of the police who were there earlier remain on the grounds as do a number of bodyguards who are keeping watch in the hotel's parking garage.

- Shortly before 9:00pm PT, Brit's father Jamie Spears arrived at the Beverly Hills Hotel. According to eyewitnesses, Jamie talks to the hotel's concierge and waits in the lobby. "He looks very tired," says one witness. "It looks like he just wants someone to help him out."

- A few minutes later, Jamie was approached by the concierge and a pair of men who may have been plainclothes police officers or hotel security officials, who led him to a private conference room, where Brit's father showed them what appear to be legal documents. Sources says Jamie is likely asking for the hotel's cooperation in getting his daughter back to her home.

- Around 9:20pm PT, more police arrived at the Beverly Hills Hotel and begin gathering in the lobby, outside in the valet parking area and upstairs on the second floor of the hotel, where Britney and Adnan were holed up.

- At 9:30pm PT, Jamie Spears entered Britney's room with what is believed to be legal documents in his hand. Meanwhile, down in the hotel's private parking garage, a number of hotel guards are kept watch on Brit's Mercedes.

TMZ has learned that Britney Spears' divorce lawyers, Trope and Trope, have filed papers requesting to be removed as her counsel. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for March 10.

TMZ has confirmed that one of the things that went down in yesterday's hearing involving Britney's conversatorship is that the commissioner granted the conservators the power to fire her manager, Howard Grossman.

Commissioner Reva Goetz ordered Howard Grossman to turn over "all documents, records and assets relating to Britney Spears" to Brit's dad, Jamie, who along with attorney Andrew Wallet, is the court-appointed conservator of Brit and her estate.

X17 just got off the phone with Sam's spokesperson, Michael Sands, who felt the need to address the many rumors floating around about Sam's intentions towards Britney, calling them "pure rhetoric".

He went on to say that Sam has not escaped to Dubai, has no intentions of suing Lynne Spears for defamation, and perhaps most importantly, "never demanded cash" from Brit's business manager (at least for now), Howard Grossman.

"Sam was inserted into Britney's life in October," by whom, Sands would not say, "after Britney had already shaved her head and been in two drug rehabs. Sam became her manager, and then her close friend. A manager does get paid." Sands went on to insist that Sam never asked, much less insisted, on being paid more than he deserved as someone in Brit's employ.

In fact, Sam has already turned down several multi-million dollar offers from the media, refusing to do any interviews. "He is not Shannon Funk or Tony Barretto," says Sands, in reference to the former assistant and bodyguard who have profited from being in Brit's employ, "he wouldn't take advantage of someone who has a disorder. He's not selling her out. There will be no big score." Furthermore, Sam repeatedly refused to accept her money when Britney tried to offer to fix his car, after it was damaged trying to avoid Kevin's process server, Aaron Cohen.

As for Lynne's allegations against Sam in the restraining order filed against him by Jamie Spears, Sands calls them completely false. "If the allegations were accurate, why didn't they get Sam on a 'terrorist threat'? Why didn't they arrest him?" Furthermore, Sam's spokesperson insists that the media try to dig for the facts before passing judgment. A judge has granted a request to have Britney's older brother, Bryan, be named as the trustee of his sister's trust.

30-year-old Bryan and attorney Ivan Taback have been granted the authority to serve as co-trustees.

According to documents filed today, Britney is the sole trustee of the trust. But, according to the trust, "an individual Trustee shall cease to act as Trustee hereunder if he or she is under a legal disability or if by reason of illness or mental or physical disability, in the written opinion of two doctors then practicing medicine, he or she is unable to manage his or her affairs."

On Thursday, another court hearing was held to determine what changes/if any should be made in teh former pop star's life.

And, a Los Angeles Commissioner decided to extend her father's role as conservator. So, that means, until Brit Brit's next court hearing on March 10th, Jamie Spears will be captain on her ship.

Additionally, Spears' brother, Bryan, has been named trustee of his sister's estate.

While poppa controls who she sees and how she runs her life, big bro will rule her finances.

Attorney John Eardley filed papers in federal court last Thursday, alleging the California courts have railroaded Britney by imposing a conservatorship. Eardley tells us Britney called him, but he would not disclose the circumstances surrounding the alleged call or what she said. We do know that Michael Sands, who used to be the spokesperson for K-daddy's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, is now the mouthpiece for Eardley. And Sands also reps Sam Lutfi, who is now restrained from all things Britney.

So, are Lutfi and Sands behind the whole magilla with Eardley? Smells like it.

Eardley tells TMZ Britney didn't sign a retainer agreement because she is being "held hostage" in her own home. Ironically, a half hour before he told us this, we looked out our office windows and saw Britney driving through West Hollywood on a shopping spree.

Around 6:00 pm PT Saturday evening, the two spoke about the job Eardley would do for Britney -- he asked what "latitude" she would give him in defending her.

the condition does very much exist, and in much more than rare cases. it is more common than you think. it's a chemical imbalance in the brain, and it is not more common in females than males. females (it seems) are just more opt to say they're bipolar when they're not at all to cover their whacky behavior.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the LAPD investigation into Sam Lutfi allegedly drugging Britney Spears is well underway.

We're told the case has now been assigned to Robbery Homicide, primarily because of the sensitive nature of the allegations and the intense media interest in Britney Spears. Sources say investigators have interviewed several witnesses regarding the drugs in Brit's system at the time she was most recently committed.

We're told the investigation had been temporarily derailed because of the death of an LAPD SWAT officer, but it's now back on track.

The Federal judge in the Britney Spears conservatorship saga has issued an order extending the restraining order against Sam Lutfi.

According to the order, Lutfi must stay clear of Brit -- and that includes phone contact -- through March 17. What's more, the judge ruled that Lutfi has been properly been served with legal papers. Lutfi's rep had challenged yesterday's service of process, but the judge said no problemo.

The judge has already indicated the case is headed back to State court. Lutfi has other problems. As TMZ first reported, LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division is investigating Lutfi for allegedly drugging Brit.

We broke the story that lawyers for both sides have agreed to visitation in a therapeutic setting. Now we've learned the specifics. The kids can visit with momma, provided Jamie Spears and her psychiatrist are present. There are other strings, but at a minimum Jamie and the shrink are required.

TMZ has learned the conditions of Britney's visits with her kids.

We broke the story that lawyers for both sides have agreed to visitation in a therapeutic setting. Now we've learned the specifics. The kids can visit with momma, provided Jamie Spears and her psychiatrist are present. There are other strings, but at a minimum Jamie and the shrink are required.

The LAPD is finally commenting on the investigation first reported by TMZ earlier this month.

As we said, Sam Lutfi is under investigation by the Robbery Homicide division of LAPD for allegedly drugging Brit. LAPD officials first said there was no such investigation. Now, Captain Kyle Jackson of Robbery Homicide has issued the following statement:

"The issues regarding Britney Spears are being considered by the department to determine if laws have been violated. Particular suspects have not yet been fully identified nor has a formal investigation into open charges officially commenced. At this time we don't know whether or not a formal investigation will be initiated."

The report says Britney will present evidence against her parents and that Sam will argue Britney is getting drugs from "other visitors" -- visitors other than whom, we're not sure. There have hardly been any visitors other than Britney's parents and Adnan.

Sam Lutfi's spokesperson, Michael Sands, is set to be deposed tomorrow -- not as a representative of Sam but as the former spokesperson for Kevin Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan. He's being put under oath in connection with KFed's custody suit.

Brit's former attorneys Trope & Trope subpoenaed Sands in hopes of getting some dirt on Kaplan and some inside scoop on the way Kevin's custody case is being run. And it looks like they'll get it! (Attorney Stacy Phillips will be handling the case now.)

Sands says he's privy to LOTS of juicy details; he told X17online exclusive, the following:

"I'll have to reveal the name of the person who told me Sam Lufti was a drug dealer and that I should plant that he was a drug dealer in the media. There were two people who witnessed this and I'll have to say who they are...

Sources tell TMZ, Britney Spears' conservatorship has been extended through July 31, 2008.

The order, issued by the court commissioner today, is effectively a seal of approval for Brit's dad, Jamie. Papa Spears has been a co-conservator since Brit's latest breakdown.

A court commissioner has ruled that Jamie Spears can draw $2,500 a week from Britney's accounts as conservator of her affairs. It pays to be Britney's dad!

TMZ has obtained the minute order from yesterday's conservatorship hearing. In it, the judge ruled on the money, plus gave him the right to lease a car.

The commish also ruled that Samuel Ingham, Brit's court-appointed attorney, be paid $58,800.

As we reported yesterday, the judge also extended the conservatorship until July 31. But sources tell us that Jamie wants to end the conservatorship before then if his Brit's mental state improves.

Britney Spears has been the recipient of numerous alarming letters and packages, a source close to the pop star tells E! News.

The disturbing correspondences have reportedly included one letter mentioning "how to bomb" and others full of threatening language and "weird gibberish," the Spears source said.

The threats have become so severe, that the Spears camp is reportedly going to give the mail to law enforcement.

"A lot of it was disturbing stalker kind of stuff," the source told E! News. "But to be safe her security team is turning it all over to the police and FBI."

A rep for the LAPD told E! that a specific investigation has not been launched into the disturbing mail, but they, "have been looking at allegations that have cropped up in the past couple of months."

The concerning letters and packages have reportedly been sent to multiple addresses linked to Spears.

A spokesperson for the FBI told E! the LAPD could not comment on ongoing investigations.

MTV had announced that they would be premiering a new music video from Britney Spears for Break The Ice last month.

They later recanted and no clip materialized.

Well, it seems like her record label is intent on trying to make the most of her flop of an album, Blackout.

While she focuses on getting healthy, her label is going to release the video WITHOUT Britney in it, The Sun is reporting.

Britney Spears is having such "a blast" as a sitcom guest star that she wants to do more of it.

The Britwreck was at "How I Met Your Mother" for a second day of taping, reports People, after spending the morning with her sons, and her folks Jamie and Lynne were both there too. "Her parents kept thanking everyone on set ... saying this is just what their daughter needed," says a show source, who added that Brit "chewed gum obsessively on set."

What's more, says the source, Brit "had a lot of fun doing it and she even mentioned extending her character."

Looks like the How I Met Your Mother Cast has nothing but rave reviews of their super-famous co-star's performance on the set this week!

According to Us, Alyson Hannigan (forever known to me as "Willow" from Buffy) said Brit's behavior on set was "surprisingly normal" and that the two talked about "clothes and dogs."

Jason Segal called her "great and lovely", while Cobie Smulders said Brit was "very professional and her comedic timing was great!"

UCLA Medical Center is terminating at least 13 staff members and suspending at least six others for looking at the confidential medical records of Britney Spears while she was hospitalized there.

The LA Times reports that in addition to these firings, at least six doctors will face disciplinary action for snooping into her computerized records at the hospital.

According to the Times, UCLA officials admitted this wasn't the first time Spears' privacy had been compromised. Several employees were caught snooping into her records in September 2005 after she gave birth to her first son, Sean Preston, at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. A few of those employees were fired as well.

A source told the Times that those who are slated to be fired were not from Spears' most recent hospital stay, but rather from previous hospitalizations at UCLA.

Spears was admitted to the hospital on January 31 -- after being placed on a "5150 hold" when it was determined she posed a danger to herself or others. She was released February 6.
