Alba: 'My parents were haunted'
Jessica Alba, 26, is best known for her role in the sci-fi TV series Dark Angel. She secured her place in Hollywood with the 2003 film Honey, which she followed with Sin City and The Fantastic Four. She is currently pregnant and is engaged to Cash Warren. In her latest film, The Eye, a psychological thriller, Alba plays a visually impaired virtuoso violinist.
You worked with Emily Mortimer years ago. So did you already know your Eye co-star, her husband Alessandro Nivola?
No. We met a few years ago at an Oscars party but I didn’t really know him before this. He’s great. It’s so nice to see people in this business happily married and dedicated to their families. It’s really encouraging. It can be done.
How did you prepare for the physical aspects of this role?
For me, it was about trying to make the blindness as believable as possible. I wanted to make it as authentic as I could but I ended up feeling quite claustrophobic. I wore these sleep shades they gave me at the blind orientation centre. It was such a relief to take them off but people who are blind obviously can’t do that. Just going to the bathroom or walking down the street or even opening the door, everything was overwhelming. The violin was pretty challenging, too. I practised for six months.
Could you do it as an alternative career?
Can you imagine starting aged three and having to practise that much to be a classical musician? Playing in front of a real orchestra was one of the hardest things I’ve done. They do it for a living and I was sitting there supposed to be the lead violinist.
Are you interested in classical music?
I enjoyed playing at the stage when I could play the notes and keep up. My grandfather’s a classical guitar player but I haven’t been exposed to much classical music.
Did this film make a nice change from your usual roles, where you run around in bikinis?
Yeah, normally I’m just running round in my underwear. I had one underwear scene and of course they used it in the trailer.
Will you be doing less of those ‘hot chick’ movies in the future?
I didn’t plan on that being the focus of my career. People cut trailers however they want. People focusing on my sexuality or whatever is just their interpretation. I don’t go into acting thinking: ‘Oh, this is what I want to do.’
What are your superstitions?
I don’t walk under ladders but I’ll walk on cracks in pavements. I really don’t like stray birds in the house. That’s a big one. It happened once and I lost my mind because my grandma had told me it meant there will be a death within a few days. That just stayed in my mind.
Have you had any supernatural experiences?
I’ve seen stuff I couldn’t explain. One of my parents’ houses was haunted, for sure. All the taps would turn on at once. All the doors in the house were wide open when you came home, with TVs turning on and off. I didn’t like that much. That was a creepy house. It got blessed and they burnt sage and stuff. In the middle of the night, every tap in the house would just turn on. How does that happen?
Sounds like it would make a good movie.
It’s not fun when it happens to you.
Which is more nerve-racking – being engaged or expecting a baby?
They’re both big deals, they’re both huge commitments. Wow. Each is equally nerve-racking in its own way because you’ve chosen to make on a huge life-altering decision.
Do you feel ready for a baby?
Yeah, I know I can do it. I’ve always wanted to be a mother so it’s a dream come true. I’ve known since I was a little girl. I used to take care of my brother who was only 18 months younger than me. I’m the oldest of 15 cousins. I’ve babysat them, changed diapers, fed them their bottles and burped them since I was about six.
How much time will you take off?
I haven’t thought about that. I’m living each day taking in these new things, the changes that are happening to my body and a growing baby.
What are you missing most that you can’t have now?
Sometimes I want a few glasses of wine. I get half a glass maybe once a week and I don’t even like it. It tastes different. My taste buds are different. I used to enjoy a nice dry cabernet and now I’ll have a few sips but it’s not the same. I don’t like meat any more either.
Are you a big wine buff?
I love wine. I like French cabernets, Bordeaux, Californian, too – the Coppola Merlot is really good and cheap. I’m more into dry wines. And also Scotch. I miss Scotch.

Everything is almost complete.
The Fantastic Four star revealed that the couple, who are expecting their first baby in the early summer, will tie the knot soon.
“I’m getting married, yes,” she confirmed.
Although she refused to name the day, the stunning actress said they were both looking forward to being parents.
“We’re both really happy. It’s such a miracle.”
Speaking at the launch of her new movie The Eye, the heavily pregnant 25-year-old told me she wasn’t using her baby bump as an excuse for taking it easy.
“I’m trying to stay relatively healthy and fit,” she said.
“It helps with the labour and anything that makes labour easier, I’m all for.”
In the supernatural thriller, Jessica plays a young musician who had been blind since she was a child.
An eye transplant offers her the chance to see again but her new eyes come with a second sight that is more of a curse than a blessing.
Jessica researched her role by spending time with a woman who has been blind from the age of three and said she was really impressed.
“She spoke three languages and travelled around the world independently,” she revealed.
“She was my sole inspiration for this movie.”

"[Pregnancy is] the most beautiful thing that can happen to you," Alba, 26, says, admitting that she has a bit of a "glow." "Everything in my face is puffed up. I have the face of a teenager! I feel like I'm 16 again." Even Warren, 31, says he's gotten in on the action, admitting, "I don't know if it's as much of a pregnancy glow as kind of a barbecue-grease glow. No, there is a time where you are in your tweens, and some lose their "baby fat" so to speak earlier than others.....some not until they are 17, 18, etc.....and usually the last place you loose that is in your face.

Mother-to-be Jessica Alba stepped away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood life - to hand out gifts to pregnant teenagers.
The Fantastic Four star visited Thomas Riley High School in Los Angeles, California, to offer a helping hand to underage expectant mothers.
Alba, 27, handed out gifts to the girls, to help the youngsters with their new babies.
Dressed in a floor-length navy blue dress and a white shirt, Alba looked radiant as she walked in through the front entrance of the school.
The actress wore oversized sunglasses and carried a bottle of water, greeting teachers and members of staff.
"The girls were clearly thrilled to see her," one onlooker said.
"As soon as they heard her car pull up they were all leaning out of the door, cheering and waving.
"This area is much less affluent and a lot less glamorous than Jessica is used to, but she didn't seem to care.
"She was helping carry the gifts in and hand them out - even though she is not far off giving birth.
"It would be nice if all celebrities were like this."

Q & A with Jessica Alba and Mike Myers
In The Love Guru, which hits theaters June 20, Mike Myers plays Pitka, a relationship guru who returns to the States in pursuit of a career. The owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, played by Jessica Alba, asks for Pitka’s help to mend the heart of Darren Roanoke, a star hockey player whose wife has left him for a rival athlete. Repairing Roanoke’s spirit may be the only way the Leafs can win the Stanley Cup. Alba and Myers chatted with Jayplay during a roundtable interview with other student news publications.
Jessica Alba
You’ve been in a lot of action-based movies, but lately you’ve been doing comedies. Is that the direction you see your career going?
Yes. I started acting because I wanted to make people laugh. I used to make up characters and do voices and basically anything to make my family and friends laugh.
Were you a hockey fan before making this film?
I didn’t know much. I had to take a crash course in hockey. I’m a sports fan, and I can wrap my head around it once I’ve watched a few games. I didn’t know how smelly those guys are—they’re so stinky.
Working with Mike Myers, how did you keep your composure while filming?
I didn’t. None of us on set really did. I would lose it and laugh my ass off.
Who would be a better love guru in real life: You or Mike Myers?
Mike does a pretty good job at it. He’s hilarious, sweet and kind. Not that I’m not, but it’s hard to put yourself in that position.
After starring in this movie, what advice do you have on matters of love?
You definitely need to be on the path of loving yourself before you are capable of sharing your life or your heart with anyone else. I think a lot of people look for love to validate themselves, but you have to love yourself first before you’re even ready for that kind of thing.
Mike Myers
You co-wrote The Love Guru. Was it your childhood dream to watch the Leafs at least compete for the cup?
Sure. I love hockey like religion. I love the Toronto Maple Leafs. I bleed blue. When it looks like we have a chance to win, part of me doesn’t even want to get involved anymore because the heartbreak is too much. I thought, if I don’t see it in my lifetime, I could at least write it in that way of Field of Dreams: If you write it, they will come.
What is your writing process like?
I always have about eight ideas circling the airport and every three and a half years one of those ideas land. With Austin Powers, I was driving home from hockey practice and I heard the song “The Look of Love (http://amazon.de/gp/product/B000024ZBI?ie=UTF8&tag=darkangefanco-21&link_code=em1&camp=2510&creative=11150&creativeASIN=B000024ZBI&adid=d3a3f7ad-4e63-41d1-855b-4922462140dd)” by Burt Bacharach. I wondered whatever happened to swingers. My films are handmade, and whatever is on my mind becomes the next thing I work on.
What gave you the idea for the character of Pitka?
After my father died, I went on a spiritual quest and started to become interested in Eastern philosophy. There are some tremendous people out there like, Deepak Chopra and Gary Zukav. It’s a very interesting world, because these people have no sense of humor. What I love about Deepak and Gary is that they understood that to be enlightened is to, in fact, lighten up.
What advice can you give students on love and relationships?
Be happy. That’s it. We’re only on this earth for seconds and we might as well spend the time being happy. I heard an interesting story about George Harrison. After the freaky dude who broke into his house and stabbed him in the head, he was on death’s door. And he had not one regret. He was completely prepared for death, because he had spent 15 years of his life in touch with love.

Campus Press sits down with Jessica Alba
An interview about the star's new movie "The Love Guru"
Campus Press freelancer Devon Taylor recently sat down with actress Jessica Alba to talk with her about her new movie.
Campus Press: Working with Mike Meyers, was it hard to keep up with all of the improv?
Jessica Alba: It was fun. It was so much fun. Going to work and not really knowing how that day is going to go and it being so unpredictable and you fly by the seat of your pants is most fun to me, whether it be in comedy or drama or whatever. Certainly in comedy it keeps the energy up and keeps it interesting.
CP: You started your film career with comedies such as "Idle Hands (http://amazon.de/gp/product/B00004S5SL?ie=UTF8&tag=darkangefanco-21&link_code=em1&camp=2510&creative=11150&creativeASIN=B00004S5SL&adid=e3ee67fd-da45-4351-bb24-cd816a224596)" and "Never Been Kissed" then did a lot of drama and genre films in between - what inspired the return to comedy?
JA: Well, I wanted to do comedy; no one would give me a shot at it. I couldn't even get into rooms to audition for comedy because everyone thought I was you know, too tough or played superheroes and larger than life characters and I wouldn't be able to do comedy and have fun and be playful. Good Luck Chuck (http://amazon.de/gp/product/B000UVLT0Y?ie=UTF8&tag=darkangefanco-21&link_code=em1&camp=2510&creative=11150&creativeASIN=B000UVLT0Y&adid=cbc7a936-a4ed-4cb7-89ad-32f5c69564b5) was kind of my shot at showing people that I could do it - and then, thank God, people enjoyed it, because it's my favorite thing in the world to do, and now Mike asked me to be in this movie.
CP: You graduated high school when you were only 16. Have you always had acting in mind as a career path?
JA: I did, yeah. I graduated because I was working and I was tutored and I didn't have any school breaks. So you know, when most kids get summer breaks and Christmas vacation and all those things, I didn't have any of that, I was just doing school one-on-one with a tutor all the way through so I just finished early. I finished early in order to give myself two years of working and trying to make it in the business. If I didn't get a good job that I though was going to put me permanently kind of - make me relevant in the business I was just going to go school and figure something else out. I got Dark Angel (http://amazon.de/gp/product/B00005Y6Q0?ie=UTF8&tag=darkangefanco-21&link_code=em1&camp=2510&creative=11150&creativeASIN=B00005Y6Q0&adid=2cd41fbb-6f81-4010-a9fa-d72d55efe0d6) when I was seventeen, and that was kind of a blessing for me because, you know, I really couldn't imagine doing anything else.
CP: How did it feel working with such "powerhouse" comedy stars such as Dane Cook and now Mike Meyers? Was there a lot of pressure on you to perform?
JA: With Dane it was a little less nerve racking because luckily I think it was his first movie he was starring in and my first comedy, so we were both figuring things out. But with Mike, he is a veteran, so I obviously wanted to hold my own and keep up with him. Certainly when I was improving I would make sure that I stayed quick on my feet and witty and stay in character. It's much more intimidating with someone like Mike Myers that has coined basically every phrase of my life, from "Wayne's World (http://amazon.de/gp/product/B000LMPH32?ie=UTF8&tag=darkangefanco-21&link_code=em1&camp=2510&creative=11150&creativeASIN=B000LMPH32&adid=464bb5b1-8d2a-417d-b545-24f6e26cda7d)" to "I Married an Ax Murder" to the Austin Powers movies. It was interesting and definitely a pinch me moment everyday on set.
CP: Considering your pregnancy and the fact that you are due soon, what characteristics did you learn from your character in this movie, Jane Bullard, that you will want to instill in your child?
JA: She was really about learning to love herself and not let other people affect the way that she thought about herself. And it's a good life lesson I think for anybody not to allow people in the world to affect how you feel about yourself or what you're going to do in life. It's quite simple. But it's a pretty powerful message.
CP: Since this film is about a love guru, do you have any advice about love of your own?
JA: You definitely need to be on the path of loving yourself before you are capable of sharing your life or your heart with anyone else. A lot of people look for love to validate themselves or to lose themselves in - putting themselves second, and it's easy to get lost in a relationship. But you have to love yourself first before you're even ready for that kind of thing.
CP: ver the last 12 months you've come out with about six different films. What's next for you, more films, or is it time for a break?
JA: I'm taking time off, yes. I worked for about two years straight and it takes a toll on you doing that much and working so hard. I'm really grateful that I got the opportunity to do everything that I did, but I'm excited to just hang out, so I haven't really been reading scripts. I've just been trying to live my life and be normal for a little while before I go right back into being a nomad and jumping from one set to the next and one character to the next.
CP: With all of the films you've been in over the last year, how did you prepare yourself for all of the different roles?
JA: Each movie is completely different. You prepare completely different depending on what kind of demands you have. For "The Eye" I had to learn how to play the violin. I had to go to blind school to learn how to live blind, and try to come off as normal as possible in that environment and be realistic as possible. In this, I had to think on my feet - I had to be on my toes. You have to have tons of energy no matter what time of the day it is. It takes a lot to try and constantly make comedy fresh, new and fun after the twelfth hour of doing the same thing for the second day in a row. It can really die and not be funny and not work - it takes a lot to keep it going and keep it fresh. Luckily I was with Mike and he has this great sort of formula. He always plays music, he cracks jokes, and just keeps the environment really fun and positive. So it was a bit easier to stay in that frame of mind.
CP: I know that Mike (Meyers) is a big hockey fan, but I was wondering if you were or have been, through the process of making this movie, become a hockey fan?
JA: Even if you like watching hockey or enjoy the sport, nothing compares to a true Canadian fan. I mean, it's a lifestyle. It's in the blood. It's pretty extraordinary. I know a few Canadians that live in LA and it is a part of their being. So I can't fairly say to a Canadian I'm a true fan, but I do definitely have an appreciation for it. I totally enjoy watching the game though; it's a pretty tough, really crazy, fun sport.

On features they'd like their baby to have:
Cash: Her eyes. She has really big, pretty, almond-shaped eyes.
Jessica: Cash's dimples. They looked so cute when he was a baby.
Packed in the hospital bag is...
Jessica: A good shea butter lotion -- I've been using Mama Mio brand and it smells yummy -- a ChapStick and some concealer. I use this Revlon product, Beyond Natural. I have a feeling I'm going to look pretty rundown, and Cash will want pictures.
Cash: Socks, sweatpants, toothbrush.
Jessica: You like to brush your teeth a lot.
Cash: A lot!
On how pregnancy makes you feel:
Jessica: It's the most beautiful thing that can happen to you. Everything in my face is puffed up. I have the face of a teenager! I feel like I'm 16 again.
Cash's pregnancy weight:
Cash: More than her! I play in an adult-league basketball game, and I went from an agile point guard to a sumo wrestler out there.
On having a pregnancy glow going:
Cash: Um ... no.
Jessica: Yes, you're always smiling.
Cash: But I don't know if it's as much of a pregnancy glow as kind of a barbeque-grease glow. I've gained probably about 10 lbs.
Jessica: My butt getting bigger is so not important when there's a human being rolling around in my tummy that's half of me and half of Cash. Weight is not the most important thing in the world.

Though she's not yet a mom, Jessica Alba (http://amazon.de/gp/product/B000QDND64?ie=UTF8&tag=darkangefanco-21&link_code=em1&camp=2510&creative=11150&creativeASIN=B000QDND64&adid=dfd1b977-5296-45cd-aa33-1ee8b72bac98) knows what she's going to need when her

the baby first comes home, to help you get acclimated," says the expectant actress.

FIRST LOOK: Jessica Alba Poses as Charlie Chaplin
By Brian Orloff
http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2008/news/080526/jessica_alba320.jpgGearing up for her latest movie, the Mike Myers comedy The Love Guru, Jessica Alba takes on the guise of screen comedy's first iconic figure, Charlie Chaplin – all for the June issue of Allure. (http://www.allure.com/)

Alba—with lavender eye shadow, bronze blush, and natural lips—was styled by makeup artist Mark Carrasquillo, who says he was aiming for a "young and sexy" look. "I wanted it to look like she could do this makeup herself," he says. Because of her "perfect skin"
Carrasquillo chose to keep everything but her purple lids simple and clean. Alba, pictured here with Thompson, Allure creative director Paul Cavaco, and hairstylist Sebastien Richard, enjoys a relaxed moment on the set.

Jessica Alba Gets Allure-ing
For someone not always (OK, never) seen as a serious thespian, Jessica Alba certainly has the "lady doth protest too much" routine down pat. The 27-year-old mama-to-be attempts to set the record straight on her career priorities in the new issue of Allure: Commerce over art every time, unless there's a bikini involved. When asked why she hasn't appeared in more independent, art-house fare, the expectant star gives a refreshingly candid answer, if not one that'll likely keep Sundance at bay for quite some time.
"To me, box office is the most important thing," she says. "If the movie makes money, then I'm fine." You gotta give the girl some credit for honesty. "I grew up not having a lot. I'm really happy to be making money, not depending on a man, and not having to suffer to survive in this business. Struggling is not fun. Been there, done that." Despite her share of skimpily clad roles, Alba grouses about being objectified. "They always play up your sexuality, because that's what gets men into the theaters," she says. "And I never really gave a s--t about all that stuff!"
Though not, it should be said, due to any prudish reservations about the topic. "I don't think sex is a big deal. I hated the hypocrisy of it. Men can do whatever, and it's acceptable." There again Alba is putting her money where her mouth is, possibly winning over a more feminist base, but effectively writing herself out of any future safe-sex endorsement campaigns. Not that there's any money in PSAs, anyway.
"I can't say it was a total accident, because you're aware of when you're being careful and when you're not," the knocked-up star says of the bun in her ever-expanding oven. "It just happened so soon!" "It," of course, being her gestating celebuspawn with fiancé Cash Warren, a pregnancy that Alba is the first to admit hasn't gone entirely smoothly.
"I kicked him out, but it wasn't like that—totally. When you're pregnant, your emotions are more tense. If the shoes are in the wrong place, you kind of lose your mind. Then he just laughs, gives me a hug and tells me it's okay."
And, we'll assume, hides the bikinis.
Some highlights from the interview:
On Her Steamy Public Image: "[Hollywood] always play[s] up your sexuality, because that's what gets men into the theaters. And I never really gave a s--- about all that stuff! It's nothing to be ashamed of. But it is definitely not what I am about by any means!"
On Owning Her Sexuality: "I don't think I was comfortable with my sexuality until I was an adult, probably, like, 22 – that's when I stopped apologizing and stopped feeling ashamed. I did the Vagina Monologues in L.A. That made me proud."
On Sex Before Marriage: "I never believed women had to be virgins when they got married, or that a woman has to fall in love with a guy just because they're having sex. I don't think sex is a big deal. I hated the hypocrisy of it. Men can do whatever, and it's acceptable."

Actress JESSICA ALBA insists her pregnancy was no "accident" - because she and fiance CASH WARREN failed to practice safe sex. The star - who is expected to give birth to her first child next month (Jun08) never predicted she would be pregnant at the age of 27, but she openly admits she wasn't being "careful" with contraception. She tells America's Allure magazine, "I can't say it was a total accident. Because you're aware of when you're being careful and when you're not. It just happened so soon."Ha I told you!

not her dreams but people's in general. Let's face it, if you have a plan and your'e working towards it and then you have this unexpected pregnancy, things will change. Mainly, you're going to have give up what you're doing now in order to support the baby. She's lucky that she has so much money to support her kid, but everyday people don't have that kind of wealth.

Jessica Alba Gets Married to Cash Warren!
Jessica Alba and Cash Warren have gotten married, PEOPLE confirms.
The couple quietly wed Monday, says her rep, Brad Cafarelli.
Alba, 27, is expecting a daughter with Warren, 31, this summer.
The couple met while filming Fantastic Four and were engaged last December.
After confirming her pregnancy, Alba says she's been in "frantic nesting mode," taking time off from acting to get the house ready for the baby.
"At the end of the day I am so tired I can't function or speak and my eyes glaze over," Alba told Fit Pregnancy magazine for its June/July issue, "but this pregnancy has seriously mellowed me out, which is nice. I've been going, going, going for so long, it feels nice not to take things so seriously."

May 20, 2008, 5:22 PM EST
MSN Entertainment
Jessica Alba and Cash Warren have officially tied the knot, People.com reported on Tuesday.
They were married in a quiet ceremony on Monday, Alba's rep, Brad Cafarelli told People.
Alba, 27, who is expecting the couple's first child this summer, met Warren on the set of the film "Fantastic Four."
The couple got engaged last December.
In 2005, Alba told Cosmopolitan magazine: "He might be the one. The first week that we kind of got together, he gave me a note and signed it with a dollar sign, because his name is Cash. It just said, 'I really, really like you.' And that was exactly how I felt at the time."

The 27-year-old actress quietly wed producer Cash Warren on Monday, her publicist, Brad Cafarelli, said Tuesday in an e-mail to The Associated Press. Cafarelli didn't give further details.
The pair became engaged in late December following Alba's announcement that she's expecting a baby with Warren, 31. They met on the set of the 2005 film "The Fantastic Four," which costarred Alba and employed Warren as a director's assistant.
Her wedding, first reported Monday by People.com, was such a quiet affair that even her brother, Josh Alba, was apparently caught off-guard. When reached by Us Weekly magazine with the news, he responded: "My sister!? I'm going to have to call her!"
When asked if Warren was good husband material, Alba said: "Well, he's my brother-in-law now!"
Alba's recently appeared in "Awake," "Good Luck Chuck" and "The Ten." The sex symbol first gained fame as an action star on TV's "Dark Angel," then in films including "Fantastic Four" and "Sin City."
Besides a baby, Alba is also expecting two films this summer: "Meet Bill," in which she plays a lingerie saleswoman who helps turn life around for a loser, and "The Love Guru" with Mike Myers as a self-help weirdo trying to patch things up between a hockey star and his wife.
Alba charts high in men's magazines' lists of the "sexiest" women in the world. She was No. 1 to FHM readers last year, and dropped to No. 3 this year (with "Transformers" star Megan Fox claiming the top spot). Alba sued Playboy in 2006 for putting her picture on its cover without her consent, but dropped the action the following month when Playboy donated to two charities Alba supports and Hugh Hefner wrote a letter of apology.

Alba's Brother's Shock at Wedding
Newlywed Jessica Alba's brother was left stunned at the news of his sister's wedding on Monday, because he had no idea the ceremony had taken place.
Josh Alba was made aware of his actress sibling's marriage to longtime beau Cash Warren by Us Weekly magazine, and was stunned that the couple had not mentioned the secret wedding.
When told of the news by the publication, he couldn't believe the news: "My sister!? I'm going to have to call her!"
And when asked if he thought Warren was a good suitor for the actress, he added, "Well, he's my brother-in-law now!"
The couple was reportedly so desperate to keep the ceremony private, they didn't invite any guests, seemingly refraining to tell any close family members of their intentions to wed.
Alba and Warren announced their engagement in December, shortly after the star confirmed she was pregnant with her first child
Damn that says alot there. I don't know what I was thinking all those years.

Another Alba-Warren Wedding in the Works?
Jessica Alba is a girl who knows how to keep a secret.
The actress' brother, Josh Alba, told E! News Tuesday he was as surprised as anyone to learn his sister had swapped vows with boyfriend Cash Warren yesterday.
Especially considering he knows "they are going to do a big ceremony later."
"I just don't know any of the details yet," he said.
Perhaps taking advantage of all the hubbub surrounding Ashlee Simpson's weekend wedding bash, Alba and Warren, who are expecting their first child together this summer, quietly tied the knot Monday afternoon.

Jessica Alba's Marriage 'Surprised Even Good Friends'
Jessica Alba's quickie courthouse wedding came out of the blue – even for her close pals.
The 27-year-old actress – who's expecting her first child – wed longtime boyfriend Cash Warren, 31, on Monday in Beverly Hills.
"Jessica and Cash's ceremony surprised even good friends," says a source close to Alba, noting that the actress tends to be "very responsible" and "strategic" when it comes to her personal life.
"She [used to feel] it would be okay to wait until after the baby was born to get married," the source continues. "But her traditional side must have really kicked in."
The low-key wedding may have been a shock – but the two had been talking marriage for more than a year, says the source.
"Cash is a wonderful guy," the insider adds. "And she really does love him."
The two will welcome their daughter this summer.

Alba’s wedding may have been strategic move
Jessica Alba’s May 19 wedding to boyfriend Cash Warren might be one the most strategically sound decisions the actress has made in her career.
For starters, by marrying just after Ashlee Simpson’s May 17 nuptials to Pete Wentz, Alba was all but guaranteed a certain level of privacy — photographers and reporters were simply too distracted to pick up on any hints that Alba and Warren would be marrying.
On a publicity level, Alba’s courthouse wedding garnered her tremendous public respect, according to one industry insider. “If you’re going to get pregnant, then get married, this is the way to do it. On the same day that Jessica’s wedding was announced, people were hearing the early details about Ashlee’s wedding. They’re wondering whether she’s pregnant under that dress, while the Jessica Alba’s fans are just happy for her.”
Another point to consider — even if just coincidence — is that Alba’s publicist, Brad Cafarelli, used to be the publicist for Ashlee Simpson and Jessica Simpson. “The way this has stolen Ashlee’s thunder, he (Alba’s rep) can’t help but be loving it right now,” said the source.
When asked for comment about Alba’s wedding strategy, Cafarelli said, “We are only confirming that they were married on Monday, no other details.”

Alba planning second wedding?
22/05/2008 - 4:08:27 PM
Jessica Alba's brother has hinted the newlywed actress is planning a second wedding ceremony later this year to celebrate her nuptials with family and friends.
The couple were reportedly so desperate to keep the nuptials private, they didn't invite any guests - even their immediate family.
However, Josh later explained to E! News that he was only surprised at the secret wedding because he knows "they are going to do a big ceremony later".
