Google-owned YouTube plans to institute new technology in September that will block the pirating of TV shows and movies on its website, it told a judge overseeing Viacom's copyright-infringement lawsuit against the video website on Friday. Viacom responded that YouTube should not have gone online without such technology in place and added that YouTube has profited from illegally uploaded copyrighted material from the beginning of its existence.
Well, is it? Because there are some good fan made music videos on there.

heh, good question. Geez what's the big deal? Can't a fan post a video made from creative labor? The only thing it's doing is complementing a movie/show.

I will be so mad/sad if this were to happen. Heck, I even like some fan made trailers on there as well. Some really good ones there.

I'm sure there will be some kind of loop hole. Also, has anyone mentioned that the ONLY reason Viacom is suing his because iFilm is a poor man's YouTube?

Hmm.... if there is a ban on any video using copyrighted material, then what's the point of YouTube?

This is bull, there's some awesome fan-made music videos out there. Check out some of the ones that fans of Tool have made, that is, check them out before the greedy record companies take them down.

lol. Exactly.
I only go on youtube for checking out music and viewing television clips. If they get rid of those I might as well not log on.

Effectively banning all licensed properties on Youtube will only result in more Youtube knockoff sites. Which will result in the uploading of more licensed properties spread further over the internet.

Aren't all those Spongebob Squarepants AMVs still on Youtube, despite Viacom removing all of the actual Spongebob clips months ago?

Seriously, there is going to have to be some special "code" now.
Like, if you want to find some old tv show clips, you have to search "hearts" or "rainbows."

If they do this I have no use for youtube anymore. The only thing I watch there are AMVs and stuff like that.

As long as some companies opt to put their stuff on Youtube (Atlantic Records put a ton of music videos on the Tube), and I can still find wacked-out news stories, I'll be happy.
Although I'm still pissed at the whole Daily Show thing. It's not like they put every episode on DVD.

Does Viacom still have all the South Park clips off?

Viacom and the others should be going to YouTube instead of constantly suing them :o

No movies or TV shows or music videos or fan stuff on Youtube anymore?!
ARE YOU F@%#ING SERIOUS?!
That's the only reason why I go there! If I can't find it somewhere else, it's on Youtube...that site is like my second most visited.

There are some interesting works out on youtube that (I hope) don't infringe on copyright laws... "I'm a Marvel and I'm a DC" springs to mind.
