He's huge in Hollywood but it seems Tom Cruise is only a very small star in France.
The actor, 45, and wife Katie Holmes, 28, were left fuming after being turned away from a St Tropez nightclub in front of dozens of onlookers.
And to add to the humiliation, P Diddy WAS allowed in to party away at the Caves Du Roi club in the exclusive Byblos Hotel.
What I want to know is why Tom didn't use the amazing mental powers that he's supposed to have as a top-level OT8 in Scientology. Couldn't he have just waved his hand in front of the bouncers Obi Wan Kenobi-style and postulated himself in the door of the club?
SuperFerret

Obi-Wan only got away with the hand wave suggestion trick because of his sexy beard. :o Cruise lacks a beard, thus, he was not let in.

That's kind of insulting to Diddy. The man runs a multi-million-dollar empire, not to mention becoming a successful fixture in the fashion industry, why wouldn't he be allowed into the club?

IoI This is a joke. Being refused entry at les caves du Roi is hilarious. I have been there ven though it is not quite my scene (allot of very rich kids buying loads of bottles of champagne and what not intermixed with a few 40-50 year olds with their 'neices' that offer some drinks allowed.
And Les Caves du Roi is too small for Paparazzi to get in. It gets really hot in there when it is packed and you make sure you tip your waiter €100 just to make sure you keep the ice and drinks flowing.

I just find him horribly pretentious and self-involved and get tired of hearing about him thinking that his celebrity status gives him more privilege than anyone else. Same reason I dislike Paris Hilton. When people like them get turned away and it makes them mad, I find it amusing. But I don't hate him. Life's too short to actually hate someone you've never even met.

Its possible but not as likely as you may think. It is very private and you see many VIPs partying there. In that sense it something like Annabel's in London where really you see the weirdest things done by people who would never get away with it if out in the open (British tabloids).
I honestly do not know what the situation was and the crowd that night. Entry into the club is pretty arbitrary.

(BANG) - Tom Cruise is allegedly planning to build a $10 million bunker underneath in preparation for the end of the world.
The 'Top Gun' star, who is a devout follower of Scientology, is said to believe evil intergalactic ruler Xenu will attack Earth and so has designed a place to hide underneath his Colorado mansion.
A source told America's Star magazine: "Tom is planning to build a $10 million bunker under his Telluride estate.
"It's a self-contained underground shelter with a high tech air-purifying system where up to ten people can survive for years."
Scientology's founder, science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, claimed extra-terrestrial beings were sent to Earth by intergalactic ruler Xenu, who then destroyed the aliens with hydrogen bombs in a volcano. The aliens' souls attached themselves to chosen humans, known as thetans, who will be one day be saved.
Tom is a devout follower of the bizarre sci-fi cult and has been hailed by leaders of the faith as the "chosen one" who will spread the word of the religion.
The 45-year-old actor is currently in Berlin filming World War II drama, 'Valkyrie'.
He has been joined by wife Katie Holmes and 17-month-old daughter Suri, but his adopted children with first wife Nicole Kidman - Isabella, 14, and 12-year-old son Connor - are said to have spent the summer at a Scientology camp.

Over the last couple months, there have been quite a few interviews with Katie Holmes, photo shoots showing her new hair, and promo stories about how happy she and hubby Tom Cruise are right now. Wonder what the cause of this sudden influx of Cruise-related puff pieces is? Part of it is probably preparation for the promotion of Cruise's upcoming Valkyrie film, but there's also the matter of an unauthorized Cruise biography by British author Andrew Morton coming out this month...
http://omg.yahoo.com/tom-cruises-lawyer-calls-new-book-sick-stuff/news/5384
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A lawyer for Tom Cruise on Monday attacked an unauthorized biography of the high-profile Scientologist, calling it "outrageous, sick stuff," even as U.S. publisher St Martin's Press defended the book.
"Tom Cruise, An Unauthorized Biography," by British author Andrew Morton, best known for his top-selling 1992 book on Princess Diana, is due on U.S. bookshelves this month.
"His book is a rehash of tired old lies about Tom and his religion, some new grotesque lies, like the sick comparison of his child to 'Rosemary's Baby' and the nutty assertion that he's the No. 2 head of the Church of Scientology," Cruise's longtime lawyer, Bert Fields, told Reuters.
"He (Morton) has made a number of claims that are false and demonstrably so," said Fields, who added that he had read Morton's book,"Clearly the book is actionable, but I'm not commenting on anything to do with legal issues."
The Church of Scientology in London did not reply to an e-mail asking for comment on the allegations. Scientology was founded by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard in Los Angeles more than 50 years ago.
In a brief statement on Monday, St Martin's Press spokesman Steve Troha said: "We stand by our book and our author."
Fields said Cruise has no plans to read the book, and the lawyer also slammed Morton's claims that Cruise's former wife, Australian actress Nicole Kidman, was worried she would be blackmailed or not see the couple's two adopted children if she spoke out against Scientology after their divorce.
Kidman's spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment, but Fields said Morton's claims were "absolute hogwash ... what they say about her is absolutely false."
"The man should be ashamed of himself and so should his publisher," said Fields. "He pretends to be writing a biography without ever talking to anybody who has really known Tom for the past 30 years."
According to , Scientology "is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths."
Those fundamental truths include man being an immortal, spiritual being whose experience "extends well beyond a single lifetime."
Germany does not recognize Scientology as a religion and regards it as a cult masquerading as a church to make money. Scientologists reject this view.
So Cruise's lawyer is already threatening to sue. What a surprise.

Tom Cruise's impassioned views about Scientology and his mission to convert the masses have been revealed in a nine minute video leaked on the internet
To the soundtrack of Mission Impossible, the Hollywood star makes a string of bold assertions about the power of Scientology to right the wrongs of the world.
To the soundtrack of Mission Impossible, the Hollywood star makes a string of bold assertions about the power of Scientology to right the wrongs of the world
He claims the group is "the authority on the mind", and can get people off drugs, rehabilitate criminals and "will bring peace and unite cultures."
He declared: "Now is the time. Being a Scientologist people are tuning to you - so you better know it and if you don't go and learn it . But don't pretend."
"If you are a scientologist, you see things the way they are in all glory and all complexity," he added.
The video's release comes as Andrew Morton published a book about Cruise alleging that the 45-year-old actor ranks second in command in the Church of Scientology.
Morton, who shot to fame with the publication of Diana: Her True Story, asserts that it is a "fair, even-handed treatment of the actor's life.
But the church responded with a 15-page statement, calling Morton's book Tom Cruise: An Unauthorised Biography "a bigoted, defamatory assault replete with lies" and saying Cruise "is a Scientology parishioner and holds no official or unofficial position in the Church hierarchy."
In describing his faith, Cruise said: "It's rough and tumble, and it's wild and woolly and it's a blast.
And he concludes: "I do it the way I do everything. There is nothing part of the way for me."

Oh yeah, the Church of Scientology has gone into high-alert spin control now that the book has been released.
All the videos from Xenu TV (http://www.xenutv.com/) have been removed from YouTube over the last couple days because the CoS has complained about copyright violation.
The CoS has also sicced its lawyers on gawker.com (http://gawker.com/5002319/church-of-scientology-claims-copyright-infringement), a Hollywood gossip site that has traditionally been rough on Tom Cruise and his Scientologist buddies.
The Church of Scientology has also issued an "Official Statement" (http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/sections/TVNews/Today%20show/PDF/02.%20STATEMENT.pdf) (something they normally don't do, particularly not taking a defensive position) denying several of the allegations in Morton's book. They don't really provide any evidence to back up these denials, but that's never stopped them before.
So I haven't read the bio myself yet, but here's my current opinion:
The book surely has a lot of overstated, tabloid-style, ridiculous claims in it. For example, I'm sure there were probably very few, if any, Scienotolgists who thought that baby Suri was conceived from L. Ron Hubbard's frozen sperm, or was the reincarnation of LRH himself. That's just silly sensationalism.
However, there are enough truths exposed about the underhanded way the CoS does business and the lengths to which that organization will go to lure in celebrity money and star power. After weeding out the silly tabloid crap, I'll bet there's still enough true info that the Scientologists really don't like having in the hands of curious readers everywhere. Thus, they adopt that classic strategy used by corrupt politicians and sleazy celebrities for decades - DENY EVERYTHING! :p

I saw people on Youtube bashing scientology because of this video and I thought to myself "he didn't say anything about scientology, he didn't say anything about anything that even remotely made sense. This says nothing about the cult and like everything about him".

I'm not one to disrespect another religion. I've deemed Scientology a cult more than few times, but if people get something out of it, live and let live.
But Cruise has become the Pat Robertson / Fred Phelps figure for his religion. Granted, he's not condemning people to Hell for being gay or blaming liberals for 9 / 11, but the Holier Than Thou persona is definitely present, and he's definitely obnoxious.

I mean, for me, yeah being holier than thou definitely bugs me, but god damnit can the man finish one thought, I mean say one thing that I don't go "huh". That's almost an insult to Pat Robertson and Fred Phelps. I mean at least those two can stay on topic and say a full sentence with resorting to making funny noises and laughing.

Meh, it's on par with what right wing christians say all the time. Not saying it isn't a bit nutty, however if put into context it doesn't say that much about the religion than Tom Cruise's own fanaticism. But even then the actual video is for promotional use and it's not candid so perhaps he's exaggerated slightly. In either case he's a religious nut but to be honest there's plenty of them.

I love you Jennifer.
I mean, I love you Jessica.
I mean, I love you Scarlett.
I really mean, I love you Katie.
[Scientology promotional films producer Marc Headley] reveals, “[Scientology leader David] Miscavige assigned the order: ‘Find a wife for Tom Cruise’ [and] put out a casting call to female actresses saying, ‘There’s an upcoming Tom Cruise movie you might get a part in. Come for an audition.’ They had to be single, they had to be pretty and in their 20s. But in the end no movie was made.
“First they rounded up Scientologist actresses… but they were all rejected. Then they went for Jennifer Garner, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba, in that order. Jennifer and Jessica didn’t bite but Scarlett took the bait. When she found out [the “audition”] was [being held] at the Scientology Center in Hollywood she freaked out. So they worked the audition bit on Katie and introduced her to Tom. The moment he meets her, he’s enthralled with her and he told Miscavige later, ‘I knew immediately she was the one.’”

I just read an article online about Tom Cruise and how he was spotted recently with his daughter Suri and it showed how happy he was with his family. This partly made me have a change of heart toward Tom. I'd always thought he was a bad actor who advocated a dirty scam. But I mean Tom truly believes scientology is the right thing ya know? Not really. In fact, he is reportedly one of the nicest actors in Hollywood and will spend hours signing autographs for and talking to his fans at premieres and what not.
The media likes to demonize him because he is an easy target because he has some crazy beliefs...but hey, to each their own. People have to hate something. Scientology is that religion that is politically correct to hate. Imagine the outrage if an actor were called crazy for expressing their Christian or Muslim or Hindu beliefs. There would be an uproar. Cruise kinda got the short end of the stick from the media.

Yeah I heard that too, he fired his PR people sometime before the War of the Worlds or MI:3 press tour and let I think his sister do PR. She didn't keep him reigned in like the other PR people and that's when crazy Tom was unleashed on the world.

I never got why Tom is getting so much heat for his religious beliefs. If Scientology was created 500-1000 years ago, instead of recently, no one would question it's validity, but it was made up by a sci-fi author too many people have seen. Is Scientology any more wacky a belief system, than a belief system based around a virgin getting pregnant?

Again, Cruise has been a scientologist since 1990. The media didn't demonize him until he stomped on Oprah's couch, wackily declared his love of a girl almost young enough to be his daughter, and called psychiatric drugs useless. There was a list of wacky things Cruise did in 2005 prior to South Park exposing the stuff about the aliens.

Tom is an entertainer. Was what he did with Oprah's couch and Katie really so bad? He said he loved a girl who was of age and consenting. Its not like he was saying "I LOVE DAKOTA FANNING!" The media had it out for him for awhile and they used their chance to swoop in and attack him. The Oprah incident was really just what got it all rolling. If Tom were a Christian, people would've laughed at his little couch antic, said "that's nuts" and then shrugged it off.
The reason his quality movies are being hurt at the box office is because the media blows his connection to scientology way out of porportion, as if he is some crazy lunatic who is holding an underaged girl against her will and is planning a mass suicide.

Speaking of scams, I wouldn't be surprised if Cruise was faking the crazy just to stay in the limelight. I mean, he never showed any evidence of being this bats*** insane before. And he only started to act crazy right around the time he went on TV and said psychiatric drugs are evil "Nazi science."
That's because his previous manager kept the media on a tight leash.

Yes actually, since said religion is based on writings that made many, many predictions and pointed out many "scientific discoveries" thousands of years prior that ended up being perfectly accurate...hence very heavily indicating their validity.
As opposed to a belief system made up by a sci-fi writer that openly stated starting a religion would be a good way to make money, and forced people to pay to be a part of his...and of course has zero foundation other than what the sci-fi writer said.
Putting Christianity side by side with scientology and saying they're equally "wacky" is just a half-assed, absurd comparison often made by those that like to label just about any spiritual/religious beliefs as "wacky" without looking at the wackyness of the old POOF! and there it all was all by itself theory and the beliefs that go along with it.

Cruise has had a lot of power in Hollywood for years. It would be career suicide for anyone to admit that in public.
The media likes to demonize him because he is an easy target because he has some crazy beliefs...but hey, to each their own. People have to hate something.
He makes himself an easy target. Matt Lauer and Oprah didn't force him to act insane in their interviews. He did that himself.
The media demonises him since he's very influential as a celebrity about a subject which can hurt innocent people if they don't take care of themselves properly.
No-one cares if he worships space aliens. That's only amusing behavior to the public.
Scientology is that religion that is politically correct to hate. Imagine the outrage if an actor were called crazy for expressing their Christian or Muslim or Hindu beliefs. There would be an uproar. Cruise kinda got the short end of the stick from the media.
It isn't their beliefs that are the problem. It's the Scientologist church itself. Their history and methods are suspect for a reason.

I'm really indifferent about him, to be honest. He's done some great films, and can be a fine actor. His beliefs don't hold sway with me; it matters as much as if he drinks tea or coffee in the morning. Sure, he acted a bit mental on Oprah. I can tell you now that I myself have acted even more demented when the mood has taken me . . . it's just that I didn't have the opportunity to do it on national TV.
If you don't like his religious views turn the page in the paper or change the channel. :)

You want it perfectly quiet in the delivery room when your baby is born? You give your wife a pacifier to suck on because even when she's pushing out something the size of a small watermelon through a hole the size of small pickle jar, she's not allowed to make noise either????

I'm totally stealing this joke but:
Sith Lord Tom Cruise is returning to battle Oprah for the first time since his infamous couch-mounted attacked in 2005. According to Us Weekly
Three years after his memorable couch-jumping episode, Winfrey will interview Cruise from his home in Telluride, Colorado, on May 2. Cruise will [then] appear in her Chicago studio for a second taping on May 5.
The two-part show coincides with the 25th anniversary of Cruise’s famous flick Risky Business. Friends and colleagues will surprise him with taped messages, according to Harpo Productions.
Maverick in “Top Gun,” gone he is. Consumed by Darth Insanitus. Only a fully trained talk show host with the force as her ally can defeat him. Mind what you have learned, Oprah! Save it you can!

That takes huge balls (or a huge desire for promotional time) for Cruise to go back to Oprah, but I'm sure he'll be on his best behavior. Of course, if Katie escapes and runs for the hills before May 2, that could be a very interesting interview.

Another fun-filled protest against Scientology at the official premiere of Katie's play this thursday...
http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_10705729?source=rss
Star report: Dear Tom and Katie: Be ready for another protest
From Mercury News wire reports
Katie Holmes and hubby Tom Cruise can count on seeing some familiar mustachioed faces when "All My Sons," in which Holmes stars, opens on Broadway on Thursday.
The anti-Scientology critics of the group Anonymous are gearing up for another protest against the couple's controversial faith outside the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Last month the group, whose members often don "V for Vendetta" masks with mustaches, heralded the play's first preview by carrying signs that read "Scientology Kills" and "Free Katie, keep Tom."
Count on Scientologists being there, too. Church spokeswoman Karin Pouw brands Anonymous as a "terrorist group" that "has fueled religious hatred and intolerance . . . issued death threats . . . threatened to destroy Churches of Scientology by detonating bombs . . . and mailed envelopes containing fake anthrax to 25 churches."
Anonymous lawyer Graham Berry, however, argues that "to my knowledge, the FBI has found no connection between Anonymous and these so-called threats. Scientology has a history of inventing threats as part of its campaign of intimidation."
One Scientology critic who doesn't feel persecuted is Bill Maher. In his new movie, "Religulous," the comic stands at Speakers' Corner in London — blathering about the victims of an evil intergalactic emperor, without mentioning he's merely regurgitating Scientology's "secret" teachings.
"Scientology is newer and it is crazy," Maher tells us."But the teachings of Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, wouldn't be that much crazier than Scientology if you ranted them on the street corner."

The daughter of Cruise and Holmes, Suri, commonly called "TomKitten" by the media,[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-abc-0) was born April 18, 2006, at Saint John's Health Center (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_John%27s_Health_Center) in Santa Monica, California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Monica,_California).[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-access-8)[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-13)
There was controversy surrounding the name "Suri" and what the couple stated its meaning to be. The Los Angeles Times (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Times) summarized the written statement Cruise released on the birth as saying the name "is a word with origins in both Hebrew (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrew) and Persian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_Language). In Hebrew, it means 'princess' and in Persian, 'red rose,' it was claimed in the release".[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-14) Suri is a girl name for Girl in Persian community. However, magazines and blogs noted Cruise's mistranslation of the Hebrew meaning of "Suri".[16] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-15) In Hebrew, Suri actually means "from Syria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syria)", not "princess".[17] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-16)[18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-CelBet-17) The wrong etymology might stem from the fact that Suri is a Yiddish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yiddish) pet form of Sarah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah), which means "princess."[19] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-18)
Before Holmes gave birth to her daughter, media outlets questioned the authenticity of Holmes's pregnancy.[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-19) After she was born, Suri's birth certificate[21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-20) was found to contain some incorrect information.[22] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-21) Then, when there were no images of the infant for a few months, people questioned the actual existence of a child,[23] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suri_Cruise#cite_note-22) which continued until the first images of Suri were published in Vanity Fair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanity_Fair_%28magazine%29).
