Overall, Im happy that we have both. It does sadden me to see people not excited for both. Its really a great time to be a Superman fan. Im going to give Routh a chance because he deserves that. He did beat out alot of people for the role. Even though Welling will always be Superman to me, just like Reeve, Routh should be given the opportunity to at least prove himself IMO. He could suck, or he could essentially be a lesser Reeve only. I would have liked a new take on Superman, but at least its being based on a previous version with tons of merit.

Something I noticed in this manip. He actually looks better as Superman than Clark Kent :o Ughhh, his facial features don't work out at all for Clark Kent. You need a face more average to pull off both identities as having the suspension of belief that he's 2 different personas.

There's no rule that says you *can't* change the suit, but change just for the sake of change isn't a good enough reason AFAIC. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Here's another image of mine. The idea here is to make it look like an ancient prophecy foretelling the appearance of Superman. The background is a parchment-like pattern, and I filtered one of my manips to make it look somewhat like it was painted onto the page. In the spirit of true archaism, I used a font that imitates ancient Roman script and composed the prophecy itself entirely in Latin. Here's an English translation:

In an age when buildings will reach the skies, there will come the last son of a dying race. From the sky shall fall a child who will become a man with powers greater than those of any human of Earth. He will have the strength of a hundred men. Neither blade nor flame shall pierce his skin. Gravity will not keep him on the ground. He will move faster than an arrow from an archer's bow. From his eyes he shall be able to emit fire. He will see what others do not see and hear what others do not hear. He shall be a friend of justice and a great force for good. Earth's greatest champion will come.

I saw the pics posted by AgentPat of TW lookin' like he's about to take off, and that face looked really useful for a manip! I think, if you want a manip of Tom Welling as Superman to be really convincing, he has to have a very Superman-ish expression on his face (a look of determination/resolution usually works best). AgentPat's pics had just that, so I couldn't resist manipulating the second one.

I didn't draw the hair on. That's Chris Reeve's scalp in both pics, warped somewhat to fit TW's head. There aren't a whole lot of pics to choose fromof SV's Clark with a hairstyle befitting a full-fledged Superman. That mop-top style he usually wears just doesn't cut it.

Maybe you'd like this one. I figured that, during a shirt rip, he's in transition between identities and hasn't brushed his hair back yet, so I left his own hair intact.

Anyway, I see why he manip'd the way he did. For all intents and purposes, those three actors represent the character at those particular ages. As an Infinite Crisis manip, it makes sense. While I may not agree with WB's casting decisions, this is how it panned out. And the IC comparison makes sense. There was no malicious intent in calling TW Superboy in that context.

That being said, I think the mere presence of BR in this here forum causes emotional outbursts from everyone. I think in this case everyone overreacted. We should just call a truce and let bygones be bygones.

That's Welling's ACTUAL body (from the beginning of Slumber, 3rd season). The head is from another shot of Welling. There's no "padding" or exaggeration in that manip. It's ALL him.

I know I've said this before, but it appears that this season Welling has been focusing on size, not definition. The latter is unimportant provided the suit is airbrushed with the proper shadows and highlights. He'd look like he stepped right off the page of a comic book with the right suit...

You can ask Hulk, back in '04, everybody (SV fans included) were suspect of Welling's acting chops for a feature length Superman film. I was the first person - along with PDiddy et al - to acquiesce to the acting argument. We all were completely convinced of his appearance, however. Mind you, this was back in '04. Here we are in '06. Welling gets more Supermanish in looks every year, and I truly believe his acting chops can't be legitimately argued anymore. Well, not unless you'd rather have an Al Pacino in the role.

The last post over at that TV Guide op ed piece summed it up perfectly:

It will definitely be tough for this movie. The older generation will spend the entire movie comparing it to Christopher Reeves/Margo Kidder/Gene Hackman while the younger gen will compare it to Tom Welling/Erica Durance/ Michael Rosenbaum. It probably wont live up to anyone's expectations.Yup! Couldn't have said it better.

You must mean earlier in '04, before I got here.It was a poll thread that became a full-on WAR between PDiddy and Superboy - two SHH "legends" - that initially inspired me to post on these very boards. And yes, it was in the Supes' forums. I only started posting in the SV forums when the poop finally hit the fan in October. LOL

I never had any hesitations about Tom's ability to play the part in a feature. I've always thought his "WOW" factor would compensate for any minor shortcomings in acting experience.I'd say it was his presence - the "IT" factor if you will - that folks responded to in the beginning, but his actual acting wasn't earth shattering. He was good, but I'm not sure how well he would have done in a feature length film with his 3rd season talent. Looking back, I'd say he was on the cusp. It could have gone either way.

Now.. even that point is moot though.Totally. There's no question about his ability as an actor any more. Dish it out; he can take it.

Also, I'm convinced DC Direct based this Nightwing action figure on Mr. Welling:

here is a super fast manip i did, i found the original pic of this movie concept model in the superman returns sequels suit discussion thread, supposably the suit was a tim burton design....i dunno, check the thread out for more info. anyway, i'm not supporting the suit or anything that follows, i just like pasting Tom's head onto things!:oldrazz:

This was posted in the other Superman thread by TheLongestDay, it's one of the best manips I've seem yet. He looks perfect for the role in this ...... whilst I liked Routh in the role and am definitely not a Routh basher, Welling just projects much more authority and intensity.

I`ve been working on a new drawing for the eventual solo superman movie that I had in mind for Welling.
Except for the background and the human looking part of Metallo, it`s all photoshop drawn. It just looks better when it`s drawn than when I just manip the same pictures.
The lois one was bases of Teri Hatcher, because I always thought she was the perfect lois lane, But I didn`t make it look 100% like here, but the resemblance is there though.
the flying superman and the superman with his arms crossed is something I`ve posted before but I just thought they went good with this poster.
The big drawing of Wellings face there is a picture from season one, I just had to draw him a bit older, and it ended up looking pretty decent. The drawing look of it fits much better with the hair than it would have looked if I just drew this hair on the original picture.
