Well, after much procrastination, I finally took some pics of my new custom Megatron and uploaded them to th' internets. As with Optimus Prime, this one is not going on eBay and is for my personal collection. Enjoy the pics!
This time around, I took a much more involved approach towards painting. I put down a base coat of Testors Primer Spray, and then followed it up with chrome spray, then the additional details and black wash, and finally I sealed him up with Dullcote Lacquer spray. He's got a very "pewtery" look to him, which I am quite pleased with, and he does not get sticky when handled, so there's little fear to be had when posing him. I also made sure to fill in those unsightly screw holes on his wings with Apoxy Sculpt!

Another little detail I threw in this time was to give him the tribal tattoos that he had in the movie. I traced over these in Photoshop going from production stills, and then I printed them up using the Testors Decal kit. They came out great, and I'm very pleased with the results the product has given me. Also, they are sealed under the dullcote lacquer, so there's no worry of them peeling or rubbing off. I also have tattoos on his left forearm, but the photos always came out blurry so I didn't bother uploading them.

And of course, there's the fancy new red LED lights that I installed. These make Megatron look way more intimidating than if I had just left them yellow! Unfortunately, the lights on his back are very hard to see now because I chose to paint the "Energon spikes" on his back. Still, I am quite happy with how he looks. Unfortunately I do not have the means to put a tiny red LED inside of his head, so I did the next best thing and had my bro shine a laser pointer into his light pipe while I took the picture to get that extra layer of evil.

And then of course, I couldn't resist taking the spring out of his gun arm and putting it into his flail arm. Now, his flail launches out just as it should, and his gun arm can be a gun without having to be constantly held.

And then, we have the still rather wonky looking alt mode. What can I say? He still turns into a weird jet thing, and it's still a rather so-so representation of the one from the movie. But hey, at least he's got a more authentic paint job now.

Well, there you go, another customized leader transformer to add to the ol' toybox. Maybe now I'll have some time to get back to some conventional model making (and homework, among other things), but I doubt I'm done with custom Transformers figures (that leader Brawl looks like a potentially worthy endeavor). Hopefully I've inspired some of you to take a whack (or should that be a stroke?) at painting for yourselves! I'll now leave you with one last money shot of Megatron's robot mode, the real star of this project. (poor Jazz)
