Giffen is proof that a old man can still bring the comicbook heat.
Annihilation single handedly saved the whole cosmic MU characters from both obscurity and lameness. Remember Joey Q has no love for the cosmic stuff and would have gladly dragged Marvel into a 'Grimm&Gritty' maliase of 'street' 'crime fiction' 'Frank Miller is Jesus!' rehash.
I seriously believe Annihilation, Agents of Atlas, NextWave and Dan Slott truly saved Marvel from total Bendisization!!

Giffen is one of a few vets IMO that proves he still has it after over 20 years in the biz. There are others, but fewer than you'd imagine after that length of time, which is understandable.
AGENTS OF ATLAS, sadly, tanked. As did NEXTWAVE. But, whatever works to save or delay the Bendisization (2008; SECRET INVASION, Bendisization titled like a porno promising more retcons, poorly written heroes, decompression, and fanboy headaches. Y'know how when you watch so many horror movies that you get frustrated when you see the same bits, like half naked teenagers investigating spooky sounds alone, because you know the end result? That is me regarding Bendis).
Dan Slott getting to creator summits does help. As do other writers getting amped up. Brubaker, Fraction, and others. The problem is sometimes the market doesn't cooperate, like with THE ORDER falling hard in #2.
Hey! I forgot about THE ORDER. I'll add it to the list.
deemar325
09-23-2007, 11:08 PM
NextWave didn't tank Immonen just got picked up for Ult.Spidey (F'k yu Bendis!!!) and although AOA didn't burn up the sales charts it was a critic's favorite and has a solid cult following.
deemar325

I honestly soured on the Order like the concept just found the characters pretty boring so far plus I can't stand Barry Kitson's art.

What do you mean? The sales fell below the Top 100 rather quickly and Joe Q's Marvel even now has little tolerance for that.
To each their own on THE ORDER. I like it.

People are making all kinds of mistakes on these lists. CaptainCanada just put Ms. Marvel and three X-books without the word "Factor" on his list. What's going on?
Meh, Ms. Marvel is one of the most fun books I read; New is great, and I just can't bring myself to leave Astonishing off; Uncanny gets in there too, partly perhaps out of my love for Brubaker's work, even if this isn't his best. Never found X-Factor all that impressive, honestly; the dialogue is clever, but that's about it.
My other Marvel buys are X-Men, X-Factor, Thor, Runaways, and Mighty Avengers; I haven't really been reading the first three long enough to really place them, and the fourth is middling.
deemar325

Ms.Marvel I'm kinda on the tipping point about it.

Yeah, instead they're forcing you to buy one title 3 times a month. In other words, its the same ****.

The issue I had with more than 1 title was the continuity stuff. I know the amount spent will be the same, but I think it will not make some people as confused. I don't even collect Spidey, but I look at the idea and like it better than multiple continuity titles where things can and most likely will conflict with another.

Oh, you mean Bendis is writing a character out of character? GET OUT!
TheCorpulent1

Not really out of character. Danny hasn't done anything to be out of character with. I think the most he's done is be accused of being a Skrull by Wolverine for not talking to Luke much anymore, to which he replied "scowl." He's just boring window dressing in New Avengers at the moment.
