... will stop posting in this Forum IF you decide to drop the 616 books.

Because honest to #^%@ing god, I am so sick and tired of ALL complaining and moaning AND SPOILING THINGS FOR PEOPLE THAT TRY REALLY HARD TO BE SURPRISED ABOUT A BOOK YET CAN'T BECAUSE EVERY CRYBABY ON THE PLANET AND HIS OR HER DIAPER HAS TO POST SOMEWHERE ABOUT HOW TERIIBLE "SPIDER-MAN" HAS BECOME and then spoil things based on things they may have heard from sources and they're going to FINALLY drop the books.

So, if you have voted yes to dropping the 616 Spider-Man books, please do the rest of us a favour and just post in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" thread or simply stop posting at all.

Thanks for your time and your votes...

Cheers,

TMoB

I have to agree with USMC.

We're all Spidey fans here. And, as Spidey fans, we have the right to say how we feel about the comic books and what's going on in them, whether we're purchasing them or not.

This is not the positive opinions only forum.

True. But the hearing the old "Joe Q sucks because I'm not getting my way" rants are getting a bit old. I don't like everything he's done either, but there are better ways to get the point across.

Of course, by saying "getting my way" you mean "having well written stories with tight continuity that capture the essence of Spider-Man without dealing with schlocky hack-written shock value crap that only gets sales based on flash and no substance".

Regardless, TMoB is complaining about the story-lines getting SPOILED for him. Why would you even come on the internet, knowing full well that there is a large possibility you are going to get spoiled?

Honestly, the only way for him to fully enjoy his stories and be surprised with every issue is to do what he wants everyone else to do: go away.

In all fairness to TMOB, how hard would it have been to wrap spoiler tags around the Gwen, Harry rumour?.....I did until it became obvious no-one else would.....and yes it would be stupid to spoiler wrap every speculation and/or rumour but this one has some substance......

Of course I'll still come to message boards, and I am aware that surprised could be ruined by that, but what's getting under my skin (and a few of the other ol'timers) is all the negativity that's coming out of a story that nobody knows the ending to and/or how it will play out.

And is it absolutely necessary to have a thread dedicated to dropping the Spider-Man books because of a story? Christ, we'd need a new thread for every 4 to 6 issues (or however long arcs are nowadays)

I have no problems with people disliking certain aspects of a story, or even an important character change. But obviously things are going in a way that is displeasing at least 10 to 20 people in the "Dropping the book" thread, and they're going nuts all over the place and it's ^&$ing annoying.

Voicing opinions is one thing, but going on endless rants is another... and I'm kind of tired of it.

And this thread was made purely to mock the people that think putting up a "Dropping ASM?" thread has any validity.

I thought for sure that people would see that, as CaptainStacy obviously did, but he's a bit older, so maybe a bit of maturity is required.

:woot: :cwink:

If people want to complain, at least wait until it's over...

But all the negative reaction to OMD is &^$@#ing infuriating, especially to somebody who might be enjoying the story (thus far) and has yet to read a spoiler to the ending (how I've managed that is beyond me).

sheesh...

I don't mind complaining. After all "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." As long as these complaints are complete and though-out I don't see the problem. I do however understand how posts such as "OMG JOE Q TEH SUXX!!" can be annoying. There is no need for endless posts such as those.

But I think if a fan doesn't like what is happening in the comics they should voice their opinions constructively and in extreme cases drop the title. Otherwise nothing will happen to correct what's happening that they disapprove of.

Of course you'll keep coming. I could take a **** and paint a Spidey symbol on it and you'd eat it up, no problem, cause that's TMoB for ya. If it's Spidey, it must be gold. Shut the **** up. You're no one better than anyone else, my friend. And you're little self-amusing thread you created here proved that.

And is it absolutely necessary to have a thread dedicated to dropping the Spider-Man books because of a story? Christ, we'd need a new thread for every 4 to 6 issues (or however long arcs are nowadays)

And what is that to you? Mind your own business, if someone wants to create a thread dedicated to how to tie a shoe, it's none of your concern. That's the relative freedom of being a member of a message board. But only if you say it's OK, I guess. What a jerk. :whatever:

It's my right. And after OMD I'll probably lose interest in the series so much that I won't post here much unless it is about older stories or the character in general. But until the bomb hits it is like a perturbed fascination that I have to see it come even though I know it'll piss me off to no end. Kind of like X3 did and how that ruined that series for me.

So here I am just waiting for the bomb to drop and urging people to join the quitting.

P.S. I'm an old-timer and while I'm known to be an opinionated ******* by some, I don't just post to complain. I don't post in Ghost Rider, Transoformers, X-Men 3 or Punisher if you've noticed. In fact I grow tired of constant *****ing months AFTER something has happened (see SM3 boards).

Amen.

I'm sorry, but if you have a problem with being spoiled then complain to the people who have misunderstood the purpose of spoiler tags.

I cancelled my ASM subscription because I'm not happy with the poor quality of writing, but I still post. The fact is I still want to know the course of the spidey books so if, by chance they finally turn around, I'll be able to know. Just because I'm not buying the books doesn't mean I suddenly lose my exclusive right to post on the spidey message boards. This is a place where fans can exchange opinions and discuss the current state of the books...hopefully in a mature way. If there's too much negativity, maybe that's a sign that the books need to change. :/

Well, it seems the **** is starting to hit the fan.

Ultimately, this frustration is a product of readers not being satisfied w/ what is happening in the comics, but hey- we are all entitled to come here and b-itch and moan about that. This thread has been funny in parts which is at least something good. I’m not calling USMC a c0ck sucker, I don’t think he is, but it was quite funny when TMOB did.

I think what TMOB was saying is that he is pissed that people, (myself included) have been posting the possible outcomes of OMD without spoiler tags. Which I reckon is a valid comment. Personally, I have just got to the point where I have had a gut full of crappy Spider-Man and while TMOB suggests-

If people want to complain, at least wait until it's over...

I think by this stage posters here just think what is the point?
Why should I?
After seeing how these things have been going since 04, it’s got to the point now were maybe people want to know where an arc is heading before they pay to get kicked in the teeth again by JQ.

Anyway- I have never seen TMOB lord over anyone here.
As for anyone being gods, I don’t know if I’d go that far but I don’t think I have seen anyone display as much knowledge about the past four decades worth of SM continuity as TMOB or Dragon (who mysteriously seems to be sitting this one out).

I’ve just been posting here quite a lot of late. Posters like Captain Stacy, shinlyle, Doc Ock, Wolvie 2020, DA Crowe, WhatIfTales, dan1, Sloth7d, SIAT, stillanerd, farmernudie etc.. all know Spidey comics just as good as me if not better. I tend to average 7 on the Spidey trivia quiz.

First I agree with Dangerous that I have never seen Themanofbat lord over anyone. He's knowledgeable and has a passion for Spider-man comics.

Now that being said....

I Agree whole heartly with the DOC_OCK_4MUGEN quote, and really this thread is pretty lame the way themanofbat setup the vote.

It's pretty close minded to think we are ranting just for the sake of ranting. We love Spider-Man comics just as much as you.

Here's a good example of the problem. I am a Mirage TMNT devotee as well, and I sure as ***** didn't get into the bubblegum archie comic book based on the cartoon, which had a lot of issues, and probably very interesting stories, why? because it wasn't the Turtles as the turtles were originally inspired and created to be. That's what I fell in love with.

But that was ok, because Mirage made the Black and White Vicious comic too. So that's what I bought, the orignal the way the original was intended.

They have "Ultimate Spider-Man" for the kids or, to be more honest the kids that have NO MOTIVATION or RESPECT to read backissues and get caught up, that was the most fun part of getting into Comic Books in the first place!!!!!! It's crazy that Marvel has become so A.D.D.

Anyway, 616 was suppossed to progress in a way that made sense to the character, as originally intended and to follow a timeline. The power lunches that the Editors and Writers had monthly in the Eighties were proof that this was and should be a concern and nothing to take lightly. The way they all worked together so well during the Clone Saga says to me that this close interaction between Multiple Writers and Editors was still taken seriously, and not lightly.

So Quesada,Marvel, whatehaveyou has decided to make Spider-Man young and single. If they wanted to kill off MJ and make him single, flame me now, but at least that would follow a progressive story, of love, loss, and life, and guilt.

But trying to get him "Young" in a contrived manner is another lame attempt at correcting book demographics for sales figures, that Galactus likes to post up here so much, is another out of character attempt to satiate the largest demographic possible and keep MJ around because there are future movies and Marvel thinks the comic needs to relate to the Movie(s)....again, you just shake your head, at least I do.

No Silver Age loving die hard SPider-Man comic book fan can tell me with a straight face that Mystical Spider-Man, Other head eating cocoon Spider-Man, Iron Man's bit*ch Spider-Man, Didn't have sex with Gwen but Norman did Spider-Man, Organic copy the movie webs Spider-Man, and now probably young 616 mind swipe Spider-Man is something to cheer for or be inspired by!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So themanofbat, like posters have said here, great, you've read every issue ever, congrats, but that sure as ***** doesn't make you a bigger Spider-Man comic book fan then me, and if you like this garbage, I'm afraid maybe you can't see the forest for the trees.

See themanofbat, I would trade in every one of those movies and and future movies and any tv show that had Spider-Man on it, to have the 616 Spider-Man treated with the respect it was given and care since it's inception, and yes all the way and including the Clone Saga.

I swear that on all that is holy. That's how much 616 Spider-Man has meant to me. For those that don't get that mentality, that are 616 Silver Age fans/collectors, I actually pity you're slavish lamb mentality, and a lazy powerless attitude. At least perceptionally.

You may have noticed that I am not a frequent poster in the Comics forum. Thats because I really have nothing to say about ASM right now. You may have noticed that I am not a frequent poster in the Comics forum. Thats because I really have nothing to say about ASM right now. Thats why I voted to stay out of the forum until the Joe Q mess (in my opinion) is cleared up.

Just wanted to clear that up. :yay:

And that's cool Demo... I think we both kinda lost it when we created our respective threads.

I know that I was trying to be sarcastic, but at the same time, my frustrations levels were pretty high.

Anyhoo, I'd like to think that all is cool and good with all of us, except for USMC (who thinks I'm the Spider-God that ate Ezekiel in ASM #508... :woot: ), and I'm hoping that calmer heads are going to prevail on this, unlike when Sins Past made this place a war zone 2 years ago.

Best regards,

Mike

I have to agree with USMC.

We're all Spidey fans here. And, as Spidey fans, we have the right to say how we feel about the comic books and what's going on in them, whether we're purchasing them or not.

This is not the positive opinions only forum.

Agreed.

I'll continue to post here because I love the character, and I feel I have something worthwhile to add to the discussions.

I have NOTHING but the UTMOST respect for you, TMOB, but to ask people to stop complaining about something they don't like because you don't feel the same way is like everyone asking you to stop saying you like something because they all hate it. Either way, it's not fair, and it defeats the purpose of a "forum".

Anyways, I voted in the "I'll quit buying 616 Spidey and STILL post here because I'm THAT annoying". I'll be labelled as "annoying"....although that means that me and SpideyinaTree will finally have something in common.:wow:

Back in 1979, when their first album came out, I heard it (as a young 12 year old) and totally fell in love with New Wave & Punk Rock....

Quickly discovered tons of cool "new" bands and I still listen to this music to this day.
Unlike most radio crap, I find that New Wave & Punk are timeless... :word:

So to this day, almost 30 years later, I owe homage to the B-52's for getting me into a musical lifestyle that litterally changed my life.

Great thread, TMOB.

Some people don't seem to get his point. He's more upset at the constant complaining than he is about being spoiled. How do I know this? Because I share the same view that he does about this entire situation.

For three years this Spider-Man comic forum has been a sad shell of it's former self. Ever since Sins Past it's been absolutely nothing but "Joe Quesada is ruining Spider-Man...". THREE YEARS!!!

Of course people have the right to express opinions. No, this isn't just a forum for POSITIVITY. Nor is this a forum for JUST negativity, which is what this board has seemed to turn into.

What has three years of constant complaining and the idle threats of "I'm dropping the books..." done? Nothing. Not a single thing. Quesada is still EIC. He's STILL going to be doing that for quite some time.

You want a change done? Make a change happen, people. Complaining about it on a message board that Quesada doesn't EVEN READ is not going to get the job done. Why don't you try going to the Marvel offices in person? Or write a well thought out letter about how offended and disgusted you are with the state of the Spider-Man comics? But...that would take work and planning, right? Far too much work than lazily sitting at your computer in your home complaining about it.

If you want to get anger and frustration off your chest, that's fine. But sitting here year after year insulting people who enjoy something you're not is just ludacris and distasteful. Your all intelligent people, it shows through your posts that you are, but most of you act like big kids who got their favorite toy ripped from them and keeps telling "mommy" and won't be a fighter and go take it back from the bigger kid who took the toy.

But now you guys are just whinning about the whinning. That's annoying as well ;)

Joe Q hasn't ruined Spidey, Joe Q has ruined Marvel. Again my issue is the evey month there is a new big life changing event for most of the characters becuase Joe Q wants to sell more trade BPs and is that wasn't his focus then there writters would be more free to just write good stories.

It feels like some of the stories have had dissapointing endings for the sake of either, Shock to keep people reading, needing the story to end a certian way to set up the next big event or the event wasn't well thought out, as in, they wrote the story for the sake of the big concept and didn't think through a good ending. It wouldn't be so bad if maybe there were one or two stories like this, how ever every big event IMO for the last 5 years has felt this way.

And to me this is disappointing. The art of good story telling was sacrificed for profit. There is nothing wrong with profit, but enough is enough. Let the witters have a bit more freedom again and dam the digevent thing for a short time. Then lets see what happens.

I feel this way and I'm a marvel stock holder. I love Spidey/Marvel so much I will most likely not ever stop being a fan. I'll still read the books and wonder what's next, because I know in time everything will be back to the norm. Spidey and MJ will be back toghther, gwen will be dead and no one will remember that peter is spider-man. Maybe this time next year, maybe in 5. But it will eventually happen. That's how it always goes in comics.

Batman's back was healed, Peter and MJ were reunited (once already), Even Supes came back (and DC did say they most likely not bringing him back). So We all should just wait.

I'm not whining about whining. You guys can whine about Joe Quesada ruining Spider-Man, and now according to you he's ruining Marvel, haha.

More power to you.

My point is that it's been three years of it and nothing has changed.

So, go ahead, keep saying he's ruining Marvel because like I said he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

But if having guys like Brubaker writing an amazing book like Captain America. Immortal Iron Fist. Letting Slott's Initiative idea go through and having him write Avengers Initiative. Garth Ennis' Punisher MAX run. I could go on and on here. But if that's ruining Marvel then by God I hope that Quesada continues to ruin Marvel with those guys, haha. Ruin away, Mr. Quesada!

Wow I think you missed the point of my post, but said something interesting in your response. Joe Q is not going anywhere becuase he has only been there a short time or becuase he is turrning out quality work, but because he is making the company money and the stock holders like that.

How ever. Eventually enough fans will say enough is enough and stop reading all together. so to keep that from happening they will eventually reverse everything Joe Q has over seen while he's been there. It's just how things go in comics.

Another thing to look at is that I have pointed out is even people like you will get sick of the big events happening over and over and over and get bored with them.

Heck there are already rumors of Caps return. Go figure.

I didn't miss the point of your post. You seem to not get my point, I guess.

I read what I like. What I don't like I don't read. And if it's something that I passionately dislike much like a handful of posters here dislike the state of the Spider-Man comics...I'm going to handle things my way.

Yes, for the most part I'm going to come on here and share my opinion of something I do not dislike. But # 1, I am not going to insult or make someone else feel less like a fan because they enjoy something that I am not. # 2 I will express my opinion and MOVE ON # 3 If things aren't changing and keep getting progressively worse, to me, I'm going to DO SOMETHING about it. I'm not going to keep sitting at my computer whining about it.

Generally a man gets up and takes control of his own destiny. If I am THAT passionate about something where I come onto a message board angry, disrespectful, and downright hard headed about my views I want something further down than just "expressing my opinion" on a message board that nobody of importance READS anyway. I'm going to go to the source of the problem. Who is the source of this problem? According to you and others it's Joe Quesada. So how come all you posters don't rally together and go after Quesada? How come you don't stick it to him like a real fan would do?

And davewb, don't take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to lump you in with other posters I've dealt with and I don't really know how passionate you are or claim to be but if I am that angry...something HAS to be done. If I THAT BADLY want to read Spider-Man comics that are to my liking I'm going to go above and beyond the call of duty.

Maybe some people have. But, for the most part, all these guys who have said I'm not a "real" Spider-Man fan for disliking the current state of comics can go to hell, haha. Because if those guys and girls are REAL Spider-Man fans and are truly and deeply passionate, they'll go to that extra length to make something happen. And if not...well, guess you're not that big of a fan then are you?

And Quesada has been EIC longer than a short time, I believe it's been 6 or 7 years now. That's not really a short time for a Marvel EIC. Especially one that helped pick up a company from the crapper like it was.

And what do big events have to do with anything? Are you talking about Spider-Man events or overall events like Civil War and World War Hulk? Of course you will get tired of them if they aren't done correctly. If something is written good you WON'T get tired of it. Yes, when it comes to Spider-Man I am tired of it because most of the time they aren't really that good. The last big time event was The Other and that was HORRID.

But, see...the difference here is that while I disliked The Other just as much as every other fan...I complained...dropped the proper titles...and then MOVED ON. There are plenty of comic books being released by all companies to where I don't even have to think about that horrid stuff. But things improved and when you ignore horrid stories things change.

Keep talking crap on Quesada, you just further fuel the fire. Because as long as people are talking it's going to be hot, whether it's written good or not. That's the fact. You want to do some damage? Ignore it. Don't talk about it at all and see what happens. And it'll probably be what most posters around here really want, a change.

I know there are posters who are intelligent and I've SAID that, haha. Now why don't you take all that intelligence and well thought out stuff and PUT IT ON PAPER and send it to Joe Quesada? Or to Marvel?

I would write,- if I thought it would have any effect, but JQ knows that at least half of the Spidey fans think what he is producing is crap. SpideyInATree

Of course it's a defeatist attitude. You're only hurting yourself. After three years of something that would annoy me the way it seems to have done to many posters I'd be organizing something. I mean there are a decent handful here. What about other message boards? Get those guys. Start a mass petition calling for the changes that you all want, write a well thought out letter, attach the petition, and send it to Marvel.

They'll notice THAT. Anything with signatures, especially if you can get enough people to sign it...it'll be huge.

Spider-Girl fans have done it to save the book MULTIPLE times. Now if writing a letter can SAVE a book like Spider-Girl, what do you think a letter and a petition will do for a HUGE book like The Amazing Spider-Man?

You guys and girls ARE intelligent. But, I don't know...three years of constant complaining on this message board may have turned your brains to mush. :oldrazz:

ASM does not suffer from that problem, for all the fans that think the book sucks- it sure don't seem to be hurting the sales too much.

I reckon it would take a significant drop in sales for JQ and co to care about a letter and petition.

Well, more power to you then.

I'm not talking about sales. If you have enough people sign a petition about the state of Spider-Man comics and tell him that THIS MANY PEOPLE will stop reading...it's a scare tactic...and it usually works.

Unless you don't feel confident enough that there enough Spider-Man fans to warrant that kind of change. By the way many fans talk on this board it seems ALL Spider-Man fans feel that way.

And if the sales of the books aren't dropping, but gaining...what do you think the problem is? Newer fans? Or is it that people who say they are dropping the book don't really drop it? Because I just don't understand the mentality sometimes.

I read what I like. What I don't like I don't read.

Yet you keep reading the posts where people whine.... huh.

I wonder if Joe Quesada, after Sins Past, set up a warehouse and front company name that purchases 20,000 Spider-Man comics a month from Diamond Distributors.....hmmm.

I mean, he'd still personally be in the Black no?
