A nice little gossip piece from the Daily Telegraph via the Courier Mail in Australia - although there's one error - Hugh was a student at WAAPA, not NIDA.

Hugh Jackman calls on personal trainer mate

MATES who work out together stay together, as proved by Hugh Jackman and his best pal and personal trainer Michael Ryan this week.

Jackman, who was best man at Ryan's wedding to Zoe Bingley-Pullen earlier this year, has hired his mate to prepare for his role as Wolverine - with the big budget film to begin shooting at Fox Studios at the end of November.

The buffed-up buddies, whose friendship dates back to Jackman's days as a student at NIDA, were spotted slogging it out on the treadmill at Fitness First Kings Cross bright and early yesterday morning.

Note to Ryan - if the size of Huge, sorry Hugh's pecs are anything to go by, you're doing a sterling job.

The Biceps are there... the traps are there... needs to bulk up the chest and he's back... still doesn't hide the wrinkles creeping up beneath the eyes there.

He's gotta stop smiling and playing in the sun! :woot: Plus he is getting older as are all of us (his birthday's next week).

It was reported that Hugh has been hitting the gym at 5 a.m. at every location where he's been filming AUSTRALIA since at least May, probably sooner. Here's one picture of him coming out of one of the gyms a few months ago.

^ That is really amazing, the fact that he has that much dedication to training, to hit the gym at 4 or 5 am while on another movie knowing that he is going to be on set for 12 or more hours that day, it says a lot about Hugh and how serious he takes our friend Wolverine, I can't think of anybody better, ya have to love the guy.

That's Hugh for you. And by the way, happy 39th birthday today Hugh!

Here's a very funny interview of Hugh in one of the gyms in Bowen, Australia - he tried to get the interviewer to work out with him LOL! There's also a picture attached - click on link for the interview (and check out the third reply at the bottom LOL).

http://blogs.news.com.au/couriermail/showbritz/index.php/couriermail/comments/hughs_that_with_ash

When Meshel Laurie, Ashley Bradnam and Kip Wightman from Nova 106.9FM’s breakfast show went to Bowen , the best they hoped for was the get somebody to talk about stars Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, who are in the North Queensland town filming the Baz Luhrmann movie Australia. Instead, Bradnam got word that Jackman was in the gym - and got this exclusive interview:

I thought the same thing, when he first came on the screen in the 1st X-Men movie, I said to my friends "That is Wolverine", he is just one of those actors who IS the character he plays on screen, he owns this role, it is his until he does not want it anymore IMO.

It is kind of scary just how perfect he is for this role, it is just like he is ripped right out of the comic. I agree Hugh does bring Wolverine to life and he is physcially perfect which helps with that, all that time spent in the gym hitting the weight's has paid off.

Hugh looks like he's in great shape.

I'm kind of amazed though that nothing has been revealed about the cast yet. They start shooting in three to four weeks time and we still know so little.

Could it be the rewrites that are delaying things? I know that many actors wouldn't commit to a movie unless they've seen a script. If that's the case then they're leaving things a little late IMO.

Actually, my mistake when I posted it was taken Sept. 29. I was looking at a similar picture. Thanks for pointing out this one has NO beard - Hugh has had a beard since May for his current movie so this beach picture is before May but I can't seem to find the date. As you can see he's in great shape to begin with.

I agree, I thought we would hear more about the casting, hopefully if it is in rewrites it is only for the better, I want Wolverine to be a good movie and launch of a trilogy.

They are all from the same day, Sunday. He REALLY likes going to the beach - he's a self-described "water baby". Plus, while he's been in Australia filming, the family has been renting a house right ON the beach in exclusive Point Piper so they are right there. Since he's been in Sydney, there's been pictures practically every weekend of the family on the beach.

The suburb of Point Piper is located on Sydney Harbour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_Harbour), beside the suburbs of Rose Bay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Bay%2C_New_South_Wales), Bellevue Hill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellevue_Hill%2C_New_South_Wales) and Double Bay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_Bay%2C_New_South_Wales).

Hugh has been training even while he's been filming his current movie. In a blog from one of the volunteers on the AUSTRALIA set dated June 18, he says this:

Warbo recounted his encounter with Hugh Jackman at the gym. An observation that Mr. Jackman's personal trainer was trying to kill him was apparently met with the suggestion that he wasn't too far off succeeding...
