What a sweet guy! That smile could really melt me down...
He has such a fantastic smile and a great laugh, and everyone who has met him (like at the stage door) says when he speaks to you he looks you straight in the eye and if you are the only one there. One story was that one girl who was getting his autograph at the stage door was visibly shaking and he just said to her "don't be nervous dahling, it's only me!"

I found "The Fountain" graphic novel at Barnes & Noble right before I saw "King Kong" on Thursday, so it's definitely in stores now. You might want to check that too.
(I'm still debating on whether or not I want to read it before I see the movie)

"Dahling" is one of Hugh's favorite words. And that's only one of the MANY wonderful stage door stories - from him staying out long after the guards wanted him to come in, to standing outside in the freezing cold, to accommodating the immese crowds at the door. He's been gone from the public eye too long since he's been filming all these movies and was on Broadway - I can't wait to see him on the talk show circuit (he tells the greatest stories) and on the big screen again.

Jackman set for an exciting 2006
December 19, 2005 - 10:35PM
Hugh Jackman, fresh from his successful and well-publicised stint on Broadway in The Boy From Oz, has clearly secured himself a place in the Hollywood big league.
As well as voicing a character for animated movie Happy Feet, the Aussie actor will release a phenomenal six more films in 2006.
He will lend his voice to another animation, Flushed Away, with Kate Winslet and Sir Ian McKellen, where his character is a rat lost in the sewers of London.
X-Men 3 will be released in the next year, with the spin-off movie based on Jackman's character in the fantasy, Wolverine, to follow in 2007.
He will play an aristocratic Englishman in Woody Allen's Scoop, alongside Scarlett Johansson, and will play opposite Rachel Weisz in epic sci-fi drama, The Fountain.
Later in the year he will star with Christian Bale and Michael Caine in The Prestige, about rival magicians in turn-of-the-century London, and will play a professor of literature in 1930s Germany in Good.
It has also been announced that Jackman will star in the Walt Disney movie, If You Could See Me Now, to be released in 2007.
As well as his film commitments, Jackman will bring The Boy From Oz home to Australia in the middle of 2006.

She's another one that's had a whole lot of projects announced lately. It wasn't mentioned above, but she's working with Hugh again in The Prestige - she's already filmed Scoop with him. But I think Hugh has more of his filmed - I know five of them definitely are being released in 2006 (X3, The Fountain, Flushed Away, Happy Feet and Scoop). The Prestige starts filming in January and the others aren't filmed yet.

Jackman settles in with X-Men sequel Wolverine
Celebrity
By DARREN PARKMAN
Aussie A-lister Hugh Jackman has been getting into the festive season, as shooting of X-Men 3 winds down.
Jackman was recently seen enjoying some snowy rest and relaxation during a weekend getaway in Whistler.
He was spotted strolling through the village, before stopping into Lush cosmetics, perhaps looking for stocking-stuffers for wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
Jackman may be hanging around our area a little longer than expected.
X-3 was set to wrap shooting this month, but production has been extended into the New Year.
What's next for Jackman?
Yet another reprise of his X-Men character in the form of a feature flick called Wolverine, which is set to start filming in several months.

Stars home for Christmas
By KATE KYRIACOU
25dec05
MELBOURNE and Sydney have become paparazzi paradises as Hollywood A-listers return to spend Christmas with family and friends.
X-Men star Hugh Jackman arrived at Melbourne airport yesterday with his sister.
It was a down-to-earth family affair as the siblings were picked up by their parents.
Jackman obliged an excited fan by posing for a photograph before the group left in the family Commodore.
Jackman, the youngest of five children, grew up in Sydney's North Shore. His wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, is from Malvern.
This will be the first Christmas for new daughter Ava, adopted from Texas soon after her birth in July.
Jackman and Furness also have an adopted son, Oscar, 6.
Jackman has spent the past few months in Canada filming the third instalment of the X-Men series.
MY NOTE: Oscar is 5.

I think it comes from the Aug. 2000 issue of Rolling Stone magazine. Some have said it's a picture of Hugh in drama school that Rolling Stone picked up, but the magazine is where it first appeared so I'm not sure exactly when it was taken.

I had E!'s "101 Hottest Celebrity Bods" on in the background when I was reading something, and Hugh came up on the list (I think he was #62 for those interested), and one of the people discussing it said, though I think it might have been a joke, that Hugh is apparently in the Guinness Book of World Records for the greatest number of showtunes known by a straight guy.

All of these new pictures - there are a few more posted some messages back - were taken over the holidays when Hugh and family went home to Australia (with a stopover in London where he was spotted shopping at Harrod's - his mom and other family members live there and his sister flew to Australia with him). Principal photography is done so the chops came off. He goes to LA soon to start filming The Prestige, which according to news reports starts filming this month.

I saw that too - yes, he was no. 62 (he also commented on his Van Helsing co-star Kate Beckinsale, who was no. 63). Truthfully, I don't think it was a joke since Hugh is known to break out into show tunes at any given time - there are a lot of stories from co-stars of his movies that he does this on the set. James Marsden commented in an on-line chat in 2002 posted here (http://cgi1.usatoday.com/mchat/20030502004/tscript.htm):
>>Seattle Washington: What is one of your favorite experiences while making X2?
James Marsden: The dinner parties at Ian McKellan's house every weekend, where all of the cast would go and he'd cook us these great English suppers and we'd get drunk and sing show tunes.<<
I have no doubt that Hugh started them! Also in that E! show, Halle Berry (looking gorgeous) was asked to comment about Hugh and she looked like she got all flustered and just said "well, look at him!" or something like that.

She was on the talk show "The View" once and was asked something like what qualities she would like to have in a mate, and she actually said "someone like Hugh Jackman" and she went on and on about how he was with his wife and son, how he treats people, how gorgeous and nice he was, etc. He has this affect on a lot of people - his co-star who played Liza Minnelli in The Boy from Oz said almost the exact same thing in an interview.

Most places say she is 8 years older than him, but there are a few that say it's 13 years. I found a site once (which of course I can't find again) that had her graduating high school in 1973 (it may have been the high school that she graduated from) which would make the 13-year difference correct, but I don't think anyone knows for sure, and if you saw Hugh and Deb together, no one should really care.

He looks to be about X2 shape in those pics with his kids. Overall he seems to have kept in great shape ever since that movie so it's always a bit weird to see him a bit "flabbier" looking in X-Men.
Also about the whole wife thing, I didn't know there was that much of an age gap but it does explain her looking older than him usually in most of the shots I've seen of them together. It's cool to see that his relationship with her is going good though as well as them embracing the adopted kids.

The pictures do not do her justice - she looks much younger in person. And Hugh has said the age difference is *not an issue* and it shouldn't be - I know lots of people who's wives are older than their husbands (me included). Hugh has said in interviews that they thought they would have a couple of kids of their own and then adopt, but they just "changed their mind." Deb said in an Australian interview last year when asked about adoption that she had a few miscarriages before they adopted Oscar.

Deborra-Lee Furness: We did.
Andrew Denton: How did that affect you?
Deborra-Lee Furness: Well it’s not real happy thing. It’s like this, we had some miscarriages and we tried, we did the IVF and we were always going to, we wanted to have a child and adopt a child. So we always had that plan anyway. So it just sort of changed the plans around. And then you know we were upset obviously when we didn’t get pregnant and we had the miscarriages. And then when we went to, oh well we’ll just adopt first, it was like what were we worried about, and it was it just happened so it was no big deal. But I, I didn’t, there must be something in the water, I just know that lately I, I come across so many women, cause I’ve been through it, they say talk to me about it. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with age difference, just that it's a weird gap of years between the two but I'm happy for them.
I already knew she had problems having kids earlier due to some interviews I've read and noticing the whole adopting thing, which is why it's cool that they're doing that.

She probably meant the miscarriages came after the IVF try. She couldn't get pregnant, they tried IVF (in-vitro fertilization) and that worked, but then she had the miscarriage(s).

Thus far, Jackman hasn't acquired enough fame to qualify for single-name celebrity. But he will be the ubiquitous star of 2006, the one in every trailer, talk show and magazine.
He's starring in five movies next year - not including the gigs voicing a penguin in Happy Feet and a rat in Flushed Away. He'll don the fuzzy sideburns again for X-Men 3, play an English fop in Woody Allen's Scoop and do art-house sci-fi in Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain.
Later on, he's an Edwardian magician in British showpiece The Prestige and a foolish professor in Nazi Germany in indie film Good.
Just to remind us that he's a triple-threat, he's bringing the Broadway-busting musical The Boy From Oz back home mid-year.
Even Jackman's easygoing charm will strain under this level of hype - will he break through to superstardom with his nice guy image unspoiled?

Hmm...I'd like to hear more about Good moving forward. That sounds like a really interesting piece, and he could do very well in it. I wish there was more out there about it setting a start date or something.

Hmm...I'd like to hear more about Good moving forward. That sounds like a really interesting piece, and he could do very well in it. I wish there was more out there about it setting a start date or something. Here's my take - The Prestige and Good haven't started filming yet. The Prestige starts next week, and the movie musical Dreamgirls is filming at the exact same time and it already has a release date of Dec. 22, so I think there's a good chance The Prestige will come out at the end of the year.
As for Good - Hugh's co-star Jason Isaacs said in an e-mail to his fans in October: "believe it or not Good is still very much alive..." and goes on to say that it has all its financing in place and they hope to film "early next year." I could be totally wrong, but I took that to mean that would be right after Hugh finishes The Prestige in March/April. So if *that* also happens I guess there's a shot that could come out at the end of the year too. We shall just have to wait and see.

Hugh interview at Entertainment Weekly:

The PopWatch Interview: Hugh Jackman on 'X-Men 3'
Word is X-Men's Wolverine is getting some new moves. Freshman mutants in the movie franchise, like Angel and Beast, hog all the buzz these days, but don't expect the vet to sit on the sidelines filing his claws. In fact, Hugh Jackman, who plays the hotheaded, cigar-smoking superhero, recently told Entertainment Weekly's Neil Drumming that X-Men 3, directed by Brett Ratner and opening May 26, will roll out a much more refined Wolvie.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What's different about Wolverine 3.0?
HUGH JACKMAN: We tried to incorporate a little more of some of the artwork of the comics into Wolverine's fighting style. I was very adamant at the beginning in 1 and 2 -- I used to watch tapes of Mike Tyson -- and I was like, I don't want it to be pretty. I don't want it to be martial arts. I don't want him to be anything other than, like, a street fighter. He doesn't fight for the sake of fighting. If he can take someone's head off in the first punch, he'll take it off. Simon [Crane, stunt coordinator for Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Troy, and both Tomb Raiders] kind of convinced me and we worked on some styles of incorporating some of the artwork in the comics, which is a little stylized, more to use what his strength is -- which is [that he's] small. Me, I'm actually a tall man, so that took a little training and I worked hard on that.
So here's the big question: Will fans of the comic book be satisfied -- especially since Bratt Ratner is new to the franchise?
Oh, yeah. There's a lot of things we really tried to get in 1 and 2 which -- I don't mean to be blunt -- were just real expensive and we couldn't get them in until 1 and 2 were so successful. So there's some sequences there that the fans -- if you go to that midnight screening on the first night, they'll just be going ballistic. There's some specific choreography, famous fighting moves, that we use in this movie that we haven't been able to do before.
The fans have been the foundation of the success of this movie and they're never forgotten. Trust me. No decision is made without considering the history of each character. You don't want to come in and just rewrite the history books. And let's face it: If I do a disservice to Wolverine, I can easily be spat on in the street.
What's up with a possible Wolverine spin-off?
I'm into it. We're actually working on a script. X-Men is an ensemble movie, even if some characters are in it more than others. It's about the X-Men. I love playing the part. I think it's the best part going around. I may be biased, but I think there's so much still to be mined, still to be learned from that [character]. I think it will stand up to a feature-length movie. And we've had some really amazing interests from some great filmmakers and great writers also really intrigued by the character.
Would you consider writing it yourself?
I will always put my input in from the actor's point of view. At this point I feel like I know the character, from some perspective, incredibly well, so I will always have a lot to say. But no.

I'm pretty sure it will be after X3 since Aronofsky said he wouldn't be finished with post-production until February/March (this has been in post-production since LAST March!). Aronofsky is also directing an episode of "Lost" which will air in May (which means it will probably be filmed in March) so it will be interesting to see if they tie in promotion for The Fountain with Lost - maybe a trailer during commercials?????
I'm excited about The Fountain and Scoop too...we can't forget The Prestige! I can't wait to see these movies.

The Prestige... How could I ignore that. Bale, Bowie, Caine. It could be awesome. Hugh has chosen some pretty interesting projects. Good for him. :) I just hope they haven´t chosen Scarlett Johansson to be the female lead...

Yep! The movie wrapped last February! Aronofsky said in an interview in late summer that "there's no release date yet, but it WILL be this year." Something must have happened between that statement and the end of the year. But I do know the picture is "locked" and I think they are dropping in the music now.
Hugh is working with some great actors and directors next year. Besides X3, he has Aronofsky and Golden Globe nominee (and possible Oscar nominee/possible winner) Rachel Weicz; Woody Allen and Golden Globe nominee (see the rest for Rachel LOL) Scarlett Johansson, and Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Scarlett again and David Bowie. Plus he's starring in his own animated movie with Kate Winslet, Ian McKellen, and Andy Serkis, and he had I think a small role in Happy Feet (Nicole Kidman plays his "wife" and she said the role is small) but I am looking forward to this one just so people who have NEVER heard him sing hear him sing on the big screen (I know one song he's going to sing is Prince's "Kiss").
I just hope all these movies don't come out bunched together. The two animated ones come out in November two weeks apart. Those are the only two besides X3 that have release dates!

Hugh Jackman, star of "X-Men," was in Las Vegas on a real-life mission over the weekend.
To prepare for a new film about dueling magicians, he checked out master magician Lance Burton on Saturday night at the Monte Carlo and dashed over to the Rio to see Penn & Teller.
The former Broadway star left a note for Burton, explaining he was in town doing homework for his film "The Prestige," which co-stars Christian Bale ("Batman Begins") as a rival of Jackman's character.

Another classic moment only we could pull off was checking in on Hugh Jackman, the babysitter. Sure enough when I asked Dominic Purcell of Fox's nominated "Prison Break" who was home babysitting his children, he told me it was Hughie. I said 'Hughie who?' ... Jackman it turns out. So at the end of the night, when our last backstage interview was through, i bumped into Dominic and his wife Becky. I convinced them we should check in on the children ... and the babysitter, too.
It was 9:30 p.m., not too late, and wouldn't you know it, the babysitter was sound asleep. Hugh's wife woke him up upon Dominic's request and it was a riot. Hugh said he took the children to a pub and that's why they're all whooped. I asked him how much an hour he was getting paid. $500. Wow, not bad. Finally, Dominic threatened that his kid better not be singing Peter Allen show tunes by the time he returned home. ... Very funny moment that only we could pull off.

California.
I'm really looking forward to both The Prestige and The Fountain but I'm having a hard time building any enthusiasm for X3.
At end Jan 2003, before X2 was released, the atmosphere here was very different to how it is now. There was a lot more official material, we were expecting the second trailer with Daredevil and X-Men 1.5 was about to be released.

A-list attraction ... Hugh Jackman.
Photo: AP
Hugh Jackman will be the star attraction at an A-list cocktail party in Sydney on February 13 as part of a whirlwind visit to promote his leading role in the Australian stage version of The Boy From Oz.
Jackman, who is likely to bring his wife Deborra-Lee Furness to the party, is expecting to mingle with guests as part of a one-day charm offensive, ahead of the musical's opening in August.
The final venue for the Sydney cocktail event is yet to be announced, but Jackman's presence is likely to attract a range of local A-listers.
The actor, who has been the toast of the US theatre scene since appearing as Peter Allen on Broadway, will also attend a press conference in Sydney on the same day.
Promoters of The Boy From Oz are expected to announce the leading female roles in the musical, with rock legend Chrissie Amphlett already rumoured as a strong contender to reprise the role of Judy Garland, Allen's mother-in-law.
Of course, Amphlett was part of the original cast in The Boy From Oz, when the show had its world premiere in Australia in 1998, back when Todd McKenney was wowing audiences in the same role. McKenney, who was truly brilliant in the leading role, was undeniably miffed about missing out on the US version, but has always remained dignified about Jackman's success.
Jackman is expected to return to the US after his short promotional visit to Sydney. He is gearing up towards the release of X-Men 3, where he reprises the role of Wolverine, in May.

You've got to give Hugh Jackman credit, the man can pull off any outfit. Black leather jumpsuits, gold glitter pants, or even dowdy old brown tweed - the guy just makes it all look good.

Well I've seen him in the "gold glitter pants" in person on stage as Peter Allen - the man exudes charisma in them. They were such a bit hit at the Tony Awards when he wore them for the first time that he wore them for the rest of the show's run instead of the black pants he usually wore during that number before the Tonys.

ENTERTAINMENT
YALETOWN HOTSPOT
Yaletown is definitely one of the best places to spot a celebrity in this city any time of year, mostly because of its trendy shops, restaurants and accommodations. One of the unique stores that continues to draw star power is Lola Home & Apparel on Hamilton Street, a lifestyle boutique which carries several unique product lines from around the globe. Recent visitors include the stars of Will & Grace — Debra Messing was in before Christmas and Eric McCormack, who has a place in Vancouver, has are the cast and crew of X3, who apparently bought a truckload to scent their trailers and homes. X3 star Halle Berry was also in recently, purchasing some Baby Burberry for Hugh Jackman’s new baby girl Ava Eliot Jackman, his second adopted child.
WOLVERINE PUMPS UP IN BURNABY
Speaking of the Aussie with claws of adamantium, while in town filming X3, Jackman trained with Performance Institute owner Steve Ramsbottom at his Burnaby 8-Rinks gym and his state of the art 48-foot mobile gym.
Ramsbottom helped keep Jackman in top form for the past five months as he played Wolverine in the latest of the Marvel series. Jackman trained for an hour-and-a-half, five days a week and even utilized the city's great landscape by taking on the Grouse Grind. (I thought that was him I passed him on the mountain — yeah right!)
This is the third time this duo has teamed up. Other films in which Steve has pumped up Hugh include X-2: X-Men United, which also filmed in Vancouver, and Van Helsing, which filmed in Prague.Source: http://www.metronews.ca/uploadedFiles/Metro_Vancouver_0111_2006.pdf

Jackman in training for Boy From Oz
Hugh Jackman has until August to get into shape to play Peter Allen in the physically gruelling stage musical, The Boy From Oz.
And he's well under way with an intense training regime.
"I was kayaking on the harbour this morning at 6am," Jackman said in Sydney today.
"I have got to get very fit again and strong. I am dancing and doing a lot of yoga. Having done it for a year [on Broadway] eight times a week, I am confident I can do it."
Following the success of the Broadway production of the same name, Jackman and producers Ben Gannon and Robert Fox are bringing the show home - but this time it has been upsized.
The arena musical will start at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on August 3, with tickets to go on sale on February 27.
The show will then travel to Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane, and there is talk of dates to be set in Perth.
For Australia, Chrissy Amphlett will play Judy Garland and Angela Toohey will play Allen's former wife Liza Minnelli.
Allen's mother, Marion Woolnough, will be played by Colleen Hewett.
"I am really excited about taking the show to the next level," said Jackman, who won a prestigious Tony Award for his energetic performance on Broadway.
"It is new territory for me, mate. This is my rock star dream, I suppose.
Critics lauded Jackman's portrayal of Allen - the flamboyant and energetic boy from Tenterfield in north-western NSW, who helped define the disco era in the 1970s and '80s, before succumbing to AIDS in 1992.
The first Boy From Oz production opened in Sydney in March 1998 and went on to become the most successful new Australian musical ever staged.
Dancing with the Stars judge Todd McKenney was in the lead role then, with Jackman taking on the Broadway lead in October 2003.
That production ended in September last year and there has been much speculation about Jackman possibly taking the musical to London's West End, Las Vegas or Los Angeles.
Following Australia, Jackman would like to take the production to London.
"If this works ... I hope that we could do it in London and maybe back in America," said Jackman.
Jackman last performed on the Australian stage eight years ago, playing screenwriter Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard.
The actor, who studied at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, is one of Australia's biggest stars in Hollywood.
His film credits include Swordfish, Van Helsing, Kate and Leopold, Someone Like You and the X-Men films.
He's got a number of releases over the next 12 months including the third X-Men movie, Scoop, Happy Feet, The Fountain, The Prestige, Flushed Away, Wolverine and Good.
And Jackman said his role in The Boy From Oz had increased his credibility as a performer.
"Spielberg saw it, lots of people saw it and see me now in a different way," he said.
"That was not my intention ... some people thought I was nuts to take it on."

It's addictive! I saw it with a friend right after it opened, and we had a really great time...so a few weeks later I mentioned seeing it again. She didn't say yes or no, she just grabbed my arm and said "And we need to sit closer this time!"
So we saw it the 2nd time. Then about 3 months later she got us tickets (10th row!) for my birthday. Then when the show had just a few weeks left we decided why not, let's see it one more time. I told her I thought we'd snapped. She said she wouldn't admit that until I had the tickets.
I got the tickets at lunchtime, called her on my cell right in front of the theater while holding the tickets and just said "It's official. We've snapped."
(but that night turned out to be the show when Elvis Costello came up on stage, so it was a very SMART move by the both of us to go that night)
And...in between all of that, a few other friends ended up with an extra tickets one night, so I got to see it a 5th time. (My other friend still hasn't forgiven me for that one)
I still can't believe I saw it 5 times. But it was worth it!

I saw it four times, and believe me, that's NOTHING. The "Ozalots" have seen it a zillion times - Hugh knows a lot of them by name since they always went to the stage door. Ten, twenty, thirty times was not unusual - and they all had to sit in the front row, preferable Row AA. Believe it or not, one of them saw the show 200 times (her poor credit card)!!!
They are all making plans to go to Australia and see the show as we speak.

I could see me going to London if it went there - that flight I can handle from the East Coast (plus my husband is dying to go there to see theater anyway). Going to Australia from NYC when it's 14 hours flying time from LA and 5 hours to GET to LA from NY??? I would never survive (never mind the cost for two people). I don't know how Hugh goes back and forth from the US to Australia so much - and with his wife and kids too! I guess that's when they sleep LOL. But I would think the body clocks must be way off - when I went to London it took me two days to get used to the time difference - and that's only 5 hours and not 16! But like I said, I guess they are used to it. I don't know how these celebrities do it.

"Oklahoma" was playing in London when I was there! And I didn't see it! (of course, I saw Rent twice)
One of my friends had told me to see 'Oklahoma' because it was supposed to be great, but we just never got around to it. Two years later, I'm in the city seeing "X-Men" for the first time, and I'm like "THAT's the guy from Oklahoma?!?!"
Still kicking myself over that one. I even have some theater guides from my trip with Oklahoma ads in them. Argh!!!
(and yep, I did get the DVD)
I would totally love to go to Australia--for any reason! One of my friends went to school there one semester and said it was amazing. She didn't want to come back.
But I am way overdue for another London trip (I've only been there the one time), so if BFO comes there, who knows? :-)
I have no idea how they do that commute. They must have enough frequent flyer miles to orbit Pluto. I work in NYC, and we're all whining about a trip to CT we have to take for a meeting tomorrow. We probably shouldn't complain!

Hugh loves to tell the story that in Swordfish, when they were filming the scene where the girl was "under the table" (ahem) while Stanley (Hugh) had a gun to his head with a time limit to hack into a computer, his wife was on the set, and the actress didn't know it. The star from Oz
All the world's a stage for the mega-talented Hugh Jackman, writes Sandra McLean
17feb06
THE minute you meet Hugh Jackman it hits you: the producers of The Boy From Oz have made a dreadful mistake.
This former journalist-turned-actor, right, is simply too good looking to play Peter Allen, the legendary song and dance man whose life is immortalised in the hit stage musical.
True, the flamboyant Allen, who died in 1992 after a brilliant career in Australia and the US, had sex appeal. He married Liza Minnelli, didn't he? But for all his energy and flair Allen, who wrote I Go to Rio, I Honestly Love You and Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) was hardly leading man material.
He had a weedy frame, a receding hairline and despite his penchant for maracas and sequins, always looked like a boy from Tenterfield.
But Jackman is definitely leading man material. He's tall, charming and handsome. Think Cary Grant meets Gregory Peck. "He's a dish – pure and simple," sighed one of his admirers.
Women just love Jackman, not only for his good looks but for his obvious devotion to his wife, fellow actor Deborra-Lee Furness and their two adopted children, Oscar, 5, and Ava, nine months.
It's not only women who can't find enough superlatives to lavish on Jackman.
The notoriously demanding New York theatre elite loved him so much they let him host the coveted Tony Awards and then gave him an award as well for his portrayal of Allen in The Boy From Oz on Broadway
in 2003.
When The Boy From Oz premiered in Australia in 1998 with Todd McKenney as Allen, audiences embraced it. It made $60 million at the box office and more than a million people went to Rio with a floral-shirted Allen.
Not quite that many will see Jackman bring his Broadway magic to Australia when he appears in a lavish arena production later this year.
It's a coup for audiences but Jackman's decision to break his busy film schedule to do The Boy From Oz back home is curious as he could easily have left Peter Allen on Broadway.
At 37, he is one of Hollywood's most bankable stars, having just finished working with Woody Allen on a new film, Scoop.
After his brief visit to Australia this week, when he made an advertising campaign for Foxtel, he returns to the US to film The Prestige with Scarlett Johansson.
Jackman has his third X-Men film out later this year. He could have been the next Bond until wife Furness reportedly advised him against taking the job and he turned it down.
In six years since his first Hollywood movie, X-Men, Jackman is no longer just a boy from Oz. According to leading producer Ben Gannon, he has the talent to become the legend from Oz.
He cites Arthur Laurents, writer of West Side Story and Gypsy, who described Jackman's Boy From Oz as "the greatest Broadway performance since Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl".
"Hugh has charisma, first of all," says Gannon, who with Robert Frost is producing the arena version of The Boy From Oz.
"When he walks on stage he has a quality that is hard to define – you see it occasionally in really big stars and that is what Hugh will become."
Gannon says Jackman is one of the few big stars who can mix film with a musical theatre career.
"That's what makes Hugh different," Gannon says. "He has the soul of a performer. He is a movie star too but most movie stars are not performers. They could not do a Broadway show. I can't think of anyone who could. So Hugh is unique. He loves performing but it is really hard for him now that he is such a hot commodity to find time to get away from doing movies."
Jackman says the decision to bring The Boy From Oz home to Australia was largely of his making – after it had got the financial nod from Gannon and Frost who are backing the $10 million production.
"It all started when I was doing the Tony Awards last year and we did a little bit of Peter Allen," he said. "It was a big venue, the Radio City Music Hall where Peter had most of his success. There were seven-and-a-half-thousand people there and it felt great. When we did the last week of The Boy From Oz on Broadway, I just knew it wasn't over. It was bittersweet because I wanted to finish then because I was exhausted, but I didn't want it to be over."'
With an arena show Jackman has the chance to assuage the rock star within. "My wife says I'm the biggest ham she knows," he says ruefully. Emmy-Award winning American director Kenny Ortega, who has worked with Cher, Michael Jackson and Barbra Streisand, will be at the helm so it could be more rockbiz than showbiz, with a chorus of Rockettes and special effects.
Jackman, like Allen, went overseas to seek fame and fortune, but the similarities between the two appear to end there. Yet Jackman says when he plays Allen it is like having an alter ego.
"It's like Jekyll and Hyde," he says. "Peter just takes over. When I did a part of the show in Las Vegas after we closed on Broadway I wondered if I still had it in me but it was like I had a Peter Allen battery on my back. You become a different person."
Allen left Australia in the 1960s and went to the US and Japan where he met Judy Garland who introduced him to her daughter, Liza Minnelli. Allen and Minnelli were married for four years, the young Australian then going a separate way to pursue a less conventional career and lifestyle. His chart hits were romantic and introspective but Allen's true persona emerged on stage. In 1981 at the Radio City Music Hall in New York he danced with the Rockettes and rode a camel during a rendition of his frothy hit I Go to Rio. Eleven years later, Allen died in Australia of complications from AIDS.
Allen's homosexuality is not glossed over in The Boy From Oz and it provides the most touching parts of the performer's life story when his lover dies and he writes a song for him.
Jackman, like fellow actor Heath Ledger, has found himself as a heterosexual heart-throb in a gay role, says he had no misgivings about taking the part.
"I don't think Peter's sexuality defined him," Jackman says. "He was known as one of the first big performers to come out about his sexuality and that was very brave. But ultimately knowing all this doesn't help me in portraying the role. He was just a natural performer who loved life. His attitude towards his sexuality was like everything else – he just didn't believe in any barriers.
"Women found him sexy too. He wasn't mincing it up all the time. He just wanted people to have a good time – he would laugh at himself and make fun of himself. He was just a great performer. I am just trying to get the essence of him."
The Boy From Oz, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Sept 1-3. Tickets ($99 to $249) go on sale February 27.

He sure can - plus hosting duties too! He's hosted the Tony Awards three years in a row and there's a rumor that he may be hosting the "Logie Awards" (which I think is like the US Emmy Awards) in Australia. Plus you ain't seen nothing yet - wait until The Fountain comes out.

Well Rachel has a great shot at winning an Oscar since she's won every award already for her role in The Constant Gardner.
I think they should use "from Darren Aronofsky, who directed critically acclaimed films Pi and Requiem for a Dream, and starring Tony and Emmy winner Hugh Jackman and Oscar winner/nominee (whichever applies) Rachel Weisz" in their advertising!

I know, there are thousands of pictures! And there will be a lot more this year once his movies come out and his arena tour begins. And I agree re Bond, which is filming now - if he took that he wouldn't be filming The Prestige, which I would much rather see! Bond's been done before, and I think (in the U.S. at least) the character may be tired - it seems like the Bourne franchise (with Matt Damon) has overtaken it. Hugh didn't need Bond (although he would have been great and was the public's choice in a lot of polls) - and I have no idea who any of the new cast members are, and the cast for The Prestige is fabulous! Here's two more pictures:

Is that a rhetorical question? :D At least to his fans he is! And I guess he's not called the "nicest man in Hollywood" for nothing." There is never a bad word said about him. I've been exchanging e-mails with someone on the crew of The Prestige and he says he is an absolute joy to work with. Even Darren Aronofsky said this in set visits for The Fountain:
>>When Hugh Jackman took the part how much changed?
ARONOFSKY: .... When the film fell apart I kind of reinvented it and said, “I only want to work with actors that really get it and make it work.” I didn't want it to be a star driven thing anymore. I wanted it to be much more of an independent film. That's how I wanted to approach it even though the budget is bigger than a normal independent film. I wanted to approach it purely as an independent film. That was the whole idea. No more bull**** and lets just make this thing purely independent. So Hugh was of course someone whose work I knew, but I didn't really know his work beyond X-Men which was a very specific thing, but not being a big comic fan or X-Men fan I didn't really know who Wolverine was until Hugh Jackman did it. But I went to see The Boy From Oz [on Broadway] and even though the role was so much different from what we're doing here, almost the complete opposite in fact, but the amount of talent that he displayed onstage was just overwhelming and I was like, “This guy is great.” Then I met him and he was really an amazing guy and I could just see that it was the right time for both us because he needed a role that could show a lot of dimension. He gets to play three different time periods and three different characters. When Hugh joined the film we met every week for a couple of hours and worked on it. So I think that it evolved somewhat and I kept rewriting it.
"I'll tell you this film would not be anywhere near possible without Hugh. Technically and emotionally he's just so good. It's hard to believe how good he is. If you ask any person on this crew what they think of Hugh Jackman, they'll all say they've never seen anything like it. He runs the set in the morning. You give him a note, say something very specific about how he is in the frame, he'll do it and every time he'll do it. Physically and emotionally he'll be there. It's a great pleasure." ...
And:
If this film’s going to be a challenge for Rachel Weisz, it’s going to be a defining moment for Jackman. So far, we’ve only seen a little bit of what he’s capable of as an actor. I’m a fan of his X-MEN work, but let’s face it... genetics dealt him a kind hand. He gives the best squint since the young Clint Eastwood as Wolverine, and it would be hard not to seem like a badass when you’ve got adamantium claws. Films like SWORDFISH and KATE & LEOPOLD reveal an amiable leading man, but they haven’t pushed him at all. Here, he’s going to have to play physical and emotional extremes that any actor would find taxing.
Someone asked Aronofsky the logical question: “What made you choose Hugh for the film?”
”Eric and I went to see him in THE BOY FROM OZ, actually.” Just in case you missed that, it was the Broadway musical about flamboyant Australian singer/dancer Peter Allen. The show was, by most accounts, a showcase for Jackman’s song and dance skills. Remember, musical theater is a big part of his background. Even though THE FOUNTAIN is about as far from being a musical as possible, seeing such a different Jackman from his film work made a lasting impression on Aronofsky. The choice seems inspired.

Feb. 19 Variety:
'Boy' heading home to Oz
Jackman's tuner head to Australia
By Michael Boland
SYDNEY -- "The Boy From Oz" is going home.
Hugh Jackman will headline a new arena version of the Broadway show, based on the life of Australian entertainer Peter Allen, that cemented Jackman's reputation as a musical star.
"Hugh Jackman the Boy From Oz" is set to be the biggest musical theater event in Australia this year, and will mark the thesp's first national stage tour of his homeland.
Producers Ben Gannon and Robert Fox, director Kenny Ortega and Jackman launched the A$10 million ($7.4 million) show to a packed media conference in Sydney on Feb. 13.
They announced 16 dates, commencing Aug. 3 in Sydney, with Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane to follow, saying strong demand could result in a two-month tour.
The 1970s Aussie pop diva Colleen Hewett joins the cast as Allen's mother, while former Divinyls lead singer Chrissy Amphlett and Angela Toohey will reprise the roles, respectively, of Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli, which they played when the original tuner preemed in Sydney in 1998.
That show played for two years in five cities, with Todd McKenney widely praised for his portrayal of Allen. Now a judge on the Seven Network's "Dancing With the Stars," McKenney was reported to be bitterly disappointed that the producers reneged on their promise to recast him in the substantially reworked show that played Broadway.
The new arena staging will be twice as big as the original, with new sets and costumes, a 50-strong cast and 30-piece orchestra playing to auds of up to 10,000 per night.
"It's really great to be able to get Hugh onstage in Australia, because you know how in demand he is," Gannon tells Variety.
Early in his career, Jackman appeared onstage in Melbourne productions of "Sunset Boulevard" and "Beauty and the Beast." His stage career took him to the West End before he returned to Oz to make movies.
Gannon is confident tix will sell strongly, despite one in 20 Aussies having seen the original show.
"I have no doubt it will be a worthwhile exercise financially," says the producer.
The Broadway "Boy From Oz" played for a year despite mostly cool notices toward the show overall -- in contrast to glowing personal reviews for Jackman. Despite discussion of potential replacements, the show shuttered when Jackman's contract was up. However, with a reported gross of $42.7 million, Gannon and Fox say the production registered a 20% profit.
A successful Japanese version staged with local actors has since played Tokyo.
If the upcoming Australian tour is a success, Fox is suggesting a return to New York to play Radio City. But Gannon plays down those plans, saying, "This production is being done for this market."

I'm not exactly sure this story means the Wolverine draft is finished. You can never tell with the wording of some of these stories - remember when we heard Wolverine was going to be filmed "right after" X3?
In any event, Hugh isn't available until at least October - I doubt we are going to see this before 2008. I'm guessing it would be filmed sometime next year.

Benioff was hired back in October 2004, he's a big fan of Wolverine. I'd expect some some draft or drafts to be complete by now.
Next year is probably the bext time to start filming. This will give whoever is directing a good amount of time in pre-production.

>>Batman Rumor # 865
We haven't met our quota for BATMAN BEGINS sequel rumors for this month so it's a good thing a new one recently showed up. From Batman-On-Film:
"Colin from Brisbane" emailed saying that an Aussie mag titled ROCK CITY is reporting that Hugo Weaving and Hugh Jackman are in the Bat-Sequel mix as The Joker and Harvey Dent respectively."
I get the feeling we've heard these guys' names attached to these roles before. I don't know, it's hard to keep up with all these rumors. Either whay, I think they'd be perfect for their respective parts. What do you guys think? Would these guys be good for these roles? Are you getting a little sick of all the rumors? Are you as anxious as I am to know why Dr. Cox from "Scrubs" hates Jackman so much? Seriously, what's the deal? Jackman's the man!

Gotta love rumors - this was just posted last week at moviehole.net:
>>The Oscar Nominated star of "Brokeback Mountain" is rumoured to be suiting up as D.A Harvey Dent in the "Batman Begins" sequel. A scooper for Superhero Hype says both Gyllenhaal and Paul Bettany's names have been whispered quite a bit on the set of the new Chris Nolan/Christian Bale/Michael Caine film "The Prestige" - Gyllenhaal as Gotham City's good-guy attorney, Bettany as the devilish Joker.
****
In the "Batman Begins" sequel, Batman teams with Harvey Dent to take down the clown prince of crime, The Joker. Chris Nolan returns as director, with Christian Bale, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine all reprising their roles from the 2005 hit.

I was waiting for someone to post what that looks like! :O
This was a private show for industry execs, etc. only but one of the Hugh fans was able to go to the dress rehearsal and she reported what songs he sang during these numbers, but of course I don't remember. Hugh wants to bring something like this to Broadway for a one-man show eventually.

If you miss more than one epside it is finished, game over. You will be like wtf from then on.
That is why it never gets any new viewers. I love that show! I would always miss, I got the dvds though...

I still follow it from time to time, usually I get those episodes that has no relation to the previous ones. The first thing that hooked me from that show I must admit was the disguises, Lol, I'm such a girl.
I would want to buy the dvds but this is the scenario for me, it's either the dvds or a cute top that I want. Hmmmm........Lol

I don't remember what the person who saw the dress rehearsal said, but the show was called "Hugh Jackman In Time" and I think he was singing a lot of standards - I know Frank Sinatra was mentioned. I wouldn't be surprised if he brought this show to NYC.

Jeepers...this fall is going to be complete Jackman saturation. He's going to be this year's Jude Law. Is it really 2006?
So, he has X3, Scoop, Prestige, Happy Feet, Flushed Away, Fountain.....and that stage thing in Australia......does he ever like....not work?
(so Prestige will be released right around Halloween huh? Cool)

I think the celebrity magazine coverage did for Jude Law - sometimes being named "Sexiest Man Alive" isn't helpful. Other actors have survived six films in a year. My fear is we'll get six in a year and then nothing for another two.

Yep - Oct. 20 The Prestige (unless they change it), Nov. 3 Flushed Away, Nov. 17 Happy Feet. The last two are animated so you won't actually see him and I think Happy Feet is not that big of a role. But all three are two weeks apart. And The Fountain doesn't have a date yet but I think they are looking towards the same time period. Re the Jude Law comparison - it's true Jude had six movies all coming out at the same time but none of them did well - I expect this to be different, and like I said, two are animated.
It does seem like he's always working, but he does take some time off between filming movies/doing stage work. He took the month of December off before doing The Prestige and after this finishes in April, he probably starts rehearsals for his arena tour in June so he may have time off (except for promoting a little movie - what was its name again? :)), unless he starts filming Good which was postponed from last year and one of his co-stars said would be filmed "early 2006". Plus when he does his arena tour for a month, it's only on weekends.

Jason Isaacs (Hugh's co-star in Good) said in October that the financing is in place and it should get going "early next year." Well, if Hugh is still in it (we haven't heard otherwise) and the schedule holds, he only has April, May and possibly June before he goes to Australia. He said last year that it wasn't going to be a long shoot so I'm guessing something along the lines of Scoop, which was seven weeks.

I loved that stupid book - it so fits him to a "t", especially I think the personality parts (don't forget this is someone who won the "burping contest" on the Kid's Choice Awards on Nickelodeon LOL). I thought of it as a combination of Mary Poppins/Ghost & Mrs. Muir/Ghost/The Sixth Sense. It has elements of each one in it IMO.

OK, here's another random connection...
I walked past Bryant Park in NYC tonight on my way home, and the corner of 40th and 6th Ave is "Nikola Tessla Corner", (who, you "Prestige" fans know, is going to be a character in the movie). Apparently, the real Tessla used to feed the birds at the park all the time.
Anyway...right now, on a phone kiosk the opposite corner of 40th and 6th? The new X3 Wolverine poster.
Very, very random...but it gave me a laugh. :-)

Hey, I saw that street sign when I walked passed it during the transit strike (going from Penn Station to 51st and 6th in the dead of winter!) and did a double-take!
And thanks for the siting of the poster - I take the # 1 train from Penn Station to 50th Street and walk east - and have yet to see ANY posters.

Yeah, that's my fear too since he won't be doing any movies from June-September at least since he will be preparing for/doing his arena show. We don't know if he's doing anything from April-June yet. No word about what happens after the arena show is over, but he *does* have four movies announced that have to be filmed - Wolverine, If You Could See Me Now, Rebound Guy and Fed X, but who knows when any of them will be ready. Plus there's also the ever-present rumor that he will be appearing on Broadway again next year in one form or another - take your pick - a one-man show, revivals of "Pal Joey" or "Stop the World I Want To Get Off" and maybe even "Boy from Oz" again at Radio City.

I keep finding the Wolverine poster. Fate? I think not!
I've seen the Wolverine poster and the Jean/Phoenix poster on 34th and Madison--towards Park Ave, and across the street from my office. :)
There were also Wolverine and Rogue posters on 35th and 2nd, Angel and Beast on 2nd Ave and 80-something (I had a meeting in CT last week and was on a loooong bus ride back downtown up 2nd Ave).
The closest I've seen to Penn Station so far was on phone booths on 35th and 6th next to the pizza place, and another on 7th and 35th (?). Those were both Wolverine posters. :D
There was another one on 37th and 6th, but I noticed that one has disappeared. And no, I'm not the one who took it!
If I remember my camera, I'll try to get a picture of one of them for you.
