How's it going guys? I think most of you know what this thread is for so i'll save the description for later. I just wanted to open the thread now so you guys could see it, and maybe open some discussion. The first match-up will be coming tonight, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Until then, I hope you guys write a message in here to say hi, and to acknowledge you see the new thread. Hopefully this thread will be just as fun as the last one, and I look forward to hearing from you Marvel Comics Character Tournament veterans in regards to feedback, thoughts, match-up requests or whatever, and I also look forward to any new people that stroll in. Talk to you guys later and as always happy voting
I'll include a link to the old thread for any new-comers or old-schoolers who might want to review it

I guess it would come down to whose magic is stronger, Zarathos or Cytorrak. If Zarathos' is stronger, than Rider's Hellfire could get through Juggy's enchantments that make him invulnerable. If Cytorrak's is stronger (which I believe to be the case), than Juggy takes it because Rider can't hurt him at all.
For voting purposes I'll go with Jugg's!

From Wikipedia about Vengeance:
"He possesses powers more in line with those of the Zarathos version of Ghost Rider, although he also possesses the Penance Stare"

ALRIGHT!!! MY MATCH IS UP, THANKS SPARTA!!!!!!!!!
Um...I picked these two combatants b/c I love to debate who wins in fights involving near-invulnerable and supernatural characters.
That said...I would argue GR takes the win b/c Juggs can't simply beat GR down. It takes more than brute strength to defeat a demon. Remember GR #13? The Hulk jumped and landed right on GR's head, and he still survived.
If GR can somehow manage to get close enuff and long enuff to Juggs to use the Penance Stare, then GR takes the win. If not...then I see a stalemate.

Not really. Hellfire has nothing to do with guilt or innocence. It simply burns the soul the same way ordinary flame burns the flesh. If it burns long enough the soul is utterly destroyed. Guilty or innocent the effect is the same.

The Penance stare may or may not work. First Juggy's force field may stop the magic if it is up and if it does not Juggy's helm stands a good chance of stopping the effect the same way it does other mind influencing effects. With shield and helm Juggy may well be able to stand still and simply ignore everything GR can throw at him.

If that's true then Vader wins no problem.
Silicon Surfer
11-07-2007, 06:10 PM
If it is a neutral universe then Ultron wins without effort. There would be no Force so Vader's combat abilities would be much diminished and a lightsaber should not be able to do any damage to adamantium.
If the Force were present then the opposite should be true. Vader could use the Force to damage Ultron's internal components without ever bothering to draw his light saber.
But since this is a neutral universe, Ultron ftw.

But if it's neutral, wouldn't the adamantium lose it's durability? If we're going to de-power Vader it's only fair we should do the same to Ultron.
Silicon Surfer
11-07-2007, 06:54 PM
It's not about fair or unfair. The durability of Adamantium is a natural property of the metal. The Force on the other hand is an energy field unique to that universe depending on microscopic lifeforms unique to that universe which may or may not even be able to survive outside the environment of the Force.
The general rule of fiction is that physical properties whether of a material or a creature retain the qualities of the universe that they are native to. Thus a dragon coming to our world would still be able to fly and would not be crushed under it's own weight the way that a creature native to our world would be. Powers that depend on an external source however are not functional unless the universe has the same or a similar source. If similar the powers usually require a either a period of adaptation or retraining.

Well said. Ultron takes this.

Darth Vader.
I think he meant neutral as in neither the SWverse nor Marvelverse but both beings powers work
also there's no way to know whether or not the Lightsabre would cut adamantium

Thanks Sparta. This match is an interseting one because Samus and Tony both have high-tech suits of armor, so it really is decided by which suit's weapons and durability are better.
Tony has repulsor rays and flight and the suit has many little tiny upgrades.
Samus has an arm cannon, bombs, missles, paralyzer whip, and the ball form.
It's a very close match, but I have to give it to Samus because her suit is way more advanced being that it's alien.

Iron Man. Most of her energy weaponry could be deflected via repulsor fields with bleeds, allowing him to recharge his armor for pulse bolts. Electromagnetic fields make missles useless. And with his Extremis, he might just hack her armor, and freeze it. In either case, he could just pound on her face until she was unconcious.

I dunno, to tell the truth. Spector apparently has powers, but probably doesn't, and access to some pretty powerful stuff, including an adamantium costume and staff. Given his willingness to kill if he gets upclose, and his very good hand to hand combat style, I don't think Gobby gets it that easily.
In a straight hand to hand fight, with the weapons available to them? Moon Knight. If not, probably Gobby.
I'll say Knight.
Silicon Surfer
12-04-2007, 06:29 PM
Gobby is much stronger than Moon Knight is even at his strongest and a lot faster as well.
LouFerignoDemon
12-04-2007, 06:31 PM
I wouldn't say faster. Stronger, sure. But definitely not strong enough to not get a few blades shoved into him, a few cracks to the skull, and a crescent dagger carving out his heart. All of which Moon Knight has NO trouble doing.
K4tzm4n
12-04-2007, 06:35 PM
I'm going to give the credit to Moon Knight...He can take such a beating and def has the potential to take him out.
Silicon Surfer
12-04-2007, 06:40 PM
Gobby has strength and speed only slightly inferior to Spidey. Moon Knight is only slightly above normal human at least in the early days. I haven't seen a Moon Knight comic in ages so I don't know what they did with him later. Gobby also has an electric blaster in his gauntlets. An adamantium costume would not help against that since adamantium is iron and conducts electricity. Gobby also carries bombs and gas. I think Gobby's costume is also armored and probably impervious to blades and blunt objects.

One of Stark's long time enemies is the Mandarin who uses mind control. The FF only rarely encounters psi powers. The FF should still have the psionic refracter that was used against the original Overmind but they would not have it with them. Even if that did happen, Pyro would fry Ock at the very least pretty quickly. Those arms may not melt but Ock will.
Carnage would easily rip thru Sabertooth, there's no question. He'd have to sneak up on Pyro, there's no other way. A frontal assault would fail miserably.

Omega/Pyro/Sabretooth. Pyro can potentially create his flames around and inside himself and become invulnerable to all three of his opponents. There is no way to say that he would but he can. Doc Ock, however, would probably manufacture or steal something that could disable the team (at least temporarily). Carnage would not fall to Pyro as Ock would realise the importance of defeating Pyro first. With him down, Carnage can keep Sabretooth busy while Electro and Ock take Omega red down. Then, it's just a simple matter of disposing of Sabretooth.

Titanium melts and also would conduct heat back to Ock himself. Pyro generates more than enough heat to vaporize titanium tentacles.
Heat weakens electricity. A large amount of heat would act as a shield against Electro. Pyro could still attack at a distance too.

For his prep time Pyro could load the battle area with gasoline tankers. Assuming that they have a pre designated battle area. If not then common explosives. Omega Red has Carbonadium armor and probably would not use the prep time. Sabretooth is a trained assassin and might restrain himself enough to get and use a sniper rifle.

For the top part, the build up of energy required to melt it is nothing SHORT of extreme, as it has a fairly high melting point.
And heat weakens electricity, but not too much in most cases unless there is an EXTREME amount of heat in the process (extreme meaning up and around where most humans burn by being around it), and the application of heat in the process is vital.
It's not simply fire > titanium instantly, nor is it heat > electricity. ESPECIALLY in the case of Electro.
Silicon Surfer
12-19-2007, 05:21 PM
IIRC titanium has a melting point of 7500 degrees Fahrenheit. Pyro's flames have been shown to be white hot but I don't know of any temperature reference. He nearly killed Colossus by heating him to a white hot temperature. Colossus has a very high heat tolerance. At any rate Ock's body would simply flash into ash from the proximity at temperatures below what would be needed to melt the tentacles. He should not be able to get anywhere near Pyro without being killed. Pyro's flames if surrounding him should cause any electricity to follow a path of least resistance away from him at the very least.
LouFerignoDemon
12-19-2007, 05:29 PM
The immediate outpour of heat energy wouldn't melt titanium outright, and would require time, and pressure to accurately melt titanium. It might make it malleable at most, but not melt it. Given that Doc Ock is a genius with few comparisons, a guy with a name of Pyro isn't exactly a mystery, and a day of prep has him armed with weaponry that will flat out kill Pyro.
As for the flame/least resistance. That works for normal electricity at less than lethal levels. Keep in mind, TONS of electricity is run through kilns in the real world, and we know for a fact that electricity can operate in IMMENSE amounts of heat, especially if it has something to arc to, or glide along in a chemical way.
However, we're not dealing with normal electricity, we're dealing with electricity that has direction and flow commanded by Electro.

Electro's control over the flow, at least in the early days when I last saw him, was less than complete. Spidey managed to block and/or divert the electricity by mundane means all the time. If he couldn't then he would have been dead a long time ago.

Yeah, webbing is a heavy insulation device. Heat is not.

It's the induced heat that does most of the damage so even if the electricity struck him there is no guaranteeing that it would do any damage. Pyro might simply take control of it too. Pyro might be functionally almost immune to electricity when his powers are active. Except for whatever affects the functioning of his nervous system.

The heat of the electricity does the least amount of damage (only superficial).
He wouldn't be functionally immune to electricity, as electricity generates heat as a byproduct of it's existance in the first place by being an energy itself. The other properties of electricity would most likely cut straight through Pyro, by overexciting his atoms and such. Granted, heat would do the same thing, and he could very well absorb that, but electricity gives more than just heat in it's energy transfers.

It's the amps in electricity that does all the damage, heat has nothing to do with it.

Amperes are the measure of how much electricity is flowing past a given point. Electricity flow through a substance and encounters resistance in varying amounts depending on the substance. In overcoming this resistance it generates heat by the excitation of the atoms. It is this heat that does damage to someone. Lightning, for example, has generated heat that has been measured at over 3 million degrees F. If the current is at exactly 100 milliamps then it can interfere with a person's heartbeat. This is the most dangerous level of electricity. Far greater amounts of electricity are more survivable than that specific amount. One forest ranger for example has survived being struck by lightning 7 times.

Umm no amps is the intesity of the flow. Voltage is the amount of flow. Resistance is measued in ohms not amps and since the human body is mostly water and offers very low resistance there is little heat generated when electricity passes through you. It's the amperage that does the damage not heat.

Voltage measures electromotive force (EMF) which is the force with which the electricity is forced through a medium. Amps measures current.

Right.... and it's the curreent that does the damage.
Actually it's a combination of the amount of current, the path it takes through your body and the duration of time that it's allowed to pass through you but in the end it's the amperage that does the damage.

All this talk is making my head hurt lol now I remember why I didn't do good in science

Depends on the science. In comparison to the other major branches, I'm horrible in biology (my first love. :( )
