Nice job Michigan State losing to a Division II school, Grand Valley State. They should be out of the Top 25, and it's justified. Embarrassing loss for the little brother up there.
It's also an awful loss for the Big 10. Maybe Michigan can sweep them this year instead of splitting the last few years.....

The win over Pitt today makes the DePaul loss even more crushing. Although it's great to see the Cats bounce back, it's going to be interesting seeing just how far up in the rankings Nova could have been had they not had the hiccup on Thursday.
And although NCST is a solid team as well, Nova probably should be 13-0 right now. We shall see if they truly are for real or not when they go on the road to face Pitt and then the BIG one in February at Georgetown.

I don't expect much from Miami; they lost to Winthrop ...Winthrop. On top of that, they don't really have a quality win yet. There's a reason a team is 13-1 and still isn't ranked. Now, I like seeing the 'Canes do well (it's primarily carryover from being a fan of the football team), but I have to see how they handle conference play, starting with the Ramblin' Wreck, before considering they're anything more than an afterthought in hoops.

Well the Canes are just outside of being ranked, and you're right they haven't played anyone this year. But i think they have a solid team, and remember UNC hasn't played all that many tough games this season either. Not that they aren't one of the best teams in the country, but you play who's on your schedule. We're going to see what teams are the real deal now that conference play has started.

Since most of you probably ignore the Pac-10, like the rest of the nation, I thought I would point out there is a big game Saturday with #4 Washington State taking on #5 UCLA.

Cant ignore the Pac-10 when the best team in College Basketball resides there, UCLA.
Stanford's looking solid again this year also!
USC while struggling, has lost i think four games to top 25 teams? I think they are better than they are made out to be. O.J Mayo is solid.
Then you've got undefeated Washington State who outside of a close win against the Zags really haven't played anyone impressive. Their big test is against UCLA coming up, and i think they're in trouble. Still though they'll be 14-1 and still ranked.
Wildcats are slumping, but they're still the Wildcats. They'll turn it around.

Carolina was devastating. It was beautiful.
Absolutely disgusted with MSU's play. Sloppy and awful all-around.
If they really were the #6 team in the nation, would've slaughtered Iowa by around 25 points.
I'm sickened. I know how Michigan fans felt last September.

MSU has a bad history playing in Iowa City altogether.
Lost a football game this year when they were up 17-3 at the half. Lost a game tonight that should have been won by 25 points easily.

Well since football is over and conference play has started, It's time to pay a little attention to B-ball.
Badgers are off to a great start with three conference wins. They should challenge Indiana and MSU for the Big10.
And, Mizzou opened up by upsetting Texas. I'll be happy if they finish in the top 5 overall in the Big12 and second in the North Division.

So after one bad game, you're making assumptions that WIS is better than both?
MSU has more depth and is a much more dangerous team to make a run in the NCAA tourney.

Doesn't matter, when Memphis actually plays someone then we'll see who the number one team in the land is.
To all those praising Wisconsin: Their ranking is because of their weak non-conference schedule.
NO ONE ELSE in the Big Ten schedules better than Izzo. Texas last year, Texas and UCLA this year, Kansas next year.
Sure we schedule some creampuffs, but for the most part, we play a real tough non-conference schedule. Compared to Indiana ().

And I agree that the rest of Conference USA sucks. However, that's not Memphis' fault.
But Memphis has beaten Connecticut, Georgetown, and Arizona. This Saturday, we play Gonzaga, and then on February 23 we play Tennessee.
But then it doesn't matter since Memphis has been named Number 1 (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3206806)

Hahahaha, not anger at all. It's truth.
I'm not "calling out" Wisconsin. It's not a personal vendetta against you at all. I've just heard a lot of people praising them. Sure, they move up SIX SPOTS for beating a crap Northwestern team. Doesn't that seem a little fishy to you?:dry::dry:
Looking at their schedule, I have no clue how they're 11th in the nation. Got killed by Duke and Marquette, although the Texas win was good, it was won on a last-second shot.
Indiana is very good as well, but an extremely weak schedule. Their only ranked team opponent was against SIU, and lost to Xavier early in the year.
I'm just saying... non-conference schedules show a lot. MSU - played #1 UCLA to the brink, beat #4 Texas, beat #22 BYU. Each team has a weakness - and if you want any chance at beating MSU, stop Drew Neitzel.
I'm just stunned that Wisconsin moves up six spots after beating Penn State and Northwestern of all people. MSU beats Ohio State, who won the last four meetings against Sparty, along with a Minnesota team that WILL be a tournament team, moves up one spot.
Sorry, it's just screwy.
Badger
01-21-2008, 06:38 PM
It might be a big jump, but overall that ranking is about right. They've won the last 5 by double digits. So they may have played some weaker teams, but they treated them like weaker team.
You talk about non-con, I'll point out quality losses. Wisconsin's are Duke and Marquette (not a killing btw). And, Michigan States are UCLA and Iowa (who have lost 9 games). Honestly, Fran, which are the better losses?
Not to mention, Grand Valley State. :o
(Yes, it was an exhibition and doesn't count. But come on.)
