He should have been fired last year. If they get in the playoffs, it matters more how they do. If they get steamrolled like the Phillies last year, he'll probably have a short leash and could be fired as early as May 09. If they play well in the playoffs, he'll last another year. If they miss them again, he's gone for sure.

Pitchers get dead arm in spring training, of course they can in April. It's not an ailment that magically waits until August to show up.
Actually, though, Jorge Sosa would be lucky to have a dead arm. That would imply that he didn't just flat-out suck.

Yeah, and it can still occur in spring training or the early season. The stress in the arm doesn't heal itself. It can carry into the spring from winter ball or even the end of the previous season.
This isn't even the point. He probably doesn't have a dead arm, he just sucks.
He's being overused. He's become the Scott Proctor of the Mets' bullpen this year.
He's thrown 13.2 innings. Plenty of relievers have thrown that many and continue to pitch fine, without giving up grand slams every other week. He's just not a reliable pitcher. Which is so obviously Willie Randolph's fault.:whatever:
Spidey-Bat
04-23-2008, 04:04 PM
He's pitched the past 3 games and has pitched 2 innings or more in 3 appearances. He's even pitched 2 innings and then 1 inning the day after. Using him yesterday was poor management. Their flight got in late (4 am) and he had already pitched the 20th and the day before which was a night game.
Randolph is the problem because he refuses to give the best relief pitcher (Feliciano) the most appearances while he continues to pitch Sosa and Heilman despite their early season struggles.
Now, can you please drop this subject? It's tiring and irrelevant since it's only April.

No one can or should win a MVP because of what they would have projected to have done but didn't play the entire year and didn't reach those numbers. Sorry, just doesn't work that way. Gotta play the games. Rollins did that and him and Granderson achieved something not seen in years while playing Gold Glove calibur short stop. People could probably go back and forth over who was the best fielder at short, but he was no doubt one of the best that year and there weren't any other SS in the running for MVP in the NL so it doesn't factor in as much.

Dodgers Today annouced "The Next 50" plan to reserve Dodger Stadium for the next 50 years and make it the heart of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Dodgers announce stadium improvement plan to enhance the fan experience and position iconic stadium for next 50 years
LOS ANGELES -- In order to ensure the continued vitality of Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers today announced a multi-faceted stadium improvement plan that will bring the most modern amenities to Dodger fans while preserving the tradition of the historic venue, first opened in 1962. The improvements, anticipated to be completed by Opening Day of the 2012 season, are designed to protect Dodger Stadium's place as the home of Los Angeles baseball for the next 50 years.
Dodger Stadium is the second-oldest facility in the National League, and when Yankee Stadium is torn down after the 2008 season, the Dodgers will have the third-oldest venue in all of baseball. Because it was designed for a very different era, Dodger Stadium is currently bursting at the seams and unable to deliver many of the modern amenities and experiences that fans have come to enjoy and expect at ballparks around the country. The modern-day space requirements for technology, concessions, storage, and office space could not have been envisioned by architects five decades ago.
"We're creating a new stadium without tearing down the old," said Dodger owner Frank McCourt. "That may take more effort and more resources, but we're talking about Dodger Stadium. This stadium sits in the heart of Los Angeles and in the hearts of Angelenos. The Dodgers are a world class organization, a world class brand and a franchise with a history of courage and vision. What we're announcing today honors that history by protecting and modernizing Dodger Stadium and making sure that it lives on and thrives for the next 50 years.
"
"We are very pleased to see the Dodgers commit to remain at a 'new' Dodger Stadium," said Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. "The plans to add trees, landscaping, attractions, and picnic areas will enhance the experience for families, and they will help usher in a whole new generation of baseball fans. We commend Frank and Jamie McCourt for their vision and their dedication to grow the game in the 21st Century.
"
The renowned architecture and planning firms of Johnson Fain and HKS lead an accomplished team of designers on this ambitious project that features the following components:
• Dodger Way - A dramatic, new tree-lined entrance will lead to a beautifully landscaped grand plaza where fans can gather beyond center field. The plaza will connect to a modern, bustling promenade that features restaurants, shops and the Dodger Experience museum showcasing the history of the Dodgers in an interactive setting.
• Green Necklace - The vibrant street setting of Dodger Way links to a beautiful perimeter around Dodger Stadium, enabling fans to walk around the park, outdoors yet inside the stadium gates. This Green Necklace will transform acres of parking lots into a landscaped outdoor walkway connecting the plaza and promenade to the rest of the ballpark.
• Top of the Park - The Green Necklace connects to a large scale outdoor plaza featuring breathtaking 360 degree views spanning the downtown skyline and Santa Monica Bay, the Santa Monica and San Gabriel Mountains, and the Dodger Stadium diamond.
This renewal plan comes on the heels of extensive stadium improvements since Frank and Jamie McCourt became stewards of the Dodgers in 2004. Past improvements include replacing nearly all of the seats in the stadium bowl; planting a new playing field and upgrading the warning track; renovating the concourses with updated concessions and other amenities; and reconfiguring stadium parking.
As a result of these extensive improvements, the stadium will become a destination for fans all year long and a place where, especially on game days, families can go early and stay late. Dodger Stadium will be a place to visit year-round to shop, dine and play.
"We hope to deliver all the modern amenities and conveniences of new ballparks, while protecting and preserving the greatest and most romantic venue in professional sports," said Dodger President Jamie McCourt. "Families will have a reason to come early and stay late any day of the year. Getting to the ballpark will be easier and spending time at the ballpark will be more comfortable and more fun.
"
As part of the ambitious stadium project, the Dodgers will "Think Blue and Act Green." The stadium will become as environmentally responsible a baseball stadium as there is in America. The Dodgers plans reflect the environmentally-sensitive practices supported by the Natural Resources Defense Council in their "Team Greening Program," a collaboration with Major League Baseball. The new facilities will be designed to meet silver "LEED" sustainability standards.
The renovations call for planting trees around the stadium and a focus on conserving water as well as promoting recycling and other environmental initiatives. The Dodgers will use the latest technologies to save millions of gallons of water each year. Recycling measures include post-consumer waste recycling, and recycling materials that will be removed throughout the building process. The Dodgers will use native or drought-resistant plants for landscaping and, where possible, energy efficient bulbs in all stadium and scoreboard lighting. Other environmental practices will include installing energy efficient appliances in all kitchen and concession facilities, and purchasing building materials and items used in concession kiosks that are made from recycled or quality, durable products.
The ambitious stadium improvement plan also addresses the need for operational enhancements including completing the concourse transformations, started this year with the Field Level Concourse, to include new restrooms, concession facilities and improved kitchen areas so food for fans and guests can be prepared in a fast and convenient manner. In addition to the new Dodger Experience museum, new buildings will include the ultimate Dodger retail store and a central ticketing facility for fans. Above these uses, there will be room for Dodger-related office space and work areas for onsite security personnel, Dodger operational staff and the Dodgers Dream Foundation. Parking improvements include two terraced parking structures on either side of the stadium that will replace existing surface parking, along with below-grade parking under the two new plazas.

"We commit to embodying the vision and spirit of this storied Dodger franchise," Frank McCourt said. "We're keeping this wonderful ballpark where it is, and providing more gathering places in the heart of Los Angeles. When completed in 2012, Dodger Stadium will continue to reflect the world class history and future of this storied franchise.

I like this plan. But no doubt that it will raise prices to an obscene amount. I hope the shops and the new mall keep price or even make them lower.
But I rather have this than a new stadium. Dodger Stadium will be around for a 100 years. :)

It's funny how Aaron Heilman, a bust as a starter and deteriorating reliever, was drafted ahead of David Wright, who is the 2nd best offensive player the franchise has ever produced (1st is Darryl Strawberry). Just proves the baseball draft is a crap shoot.

Horrendous outing, but it was still in mop-up work. He JUST came back from a rib cage injury. Wouldn't expect him to be at full-strength. At normal strength, he's just as good, if not better, then Jorge Sosa, the very definition of a mediocre choke artist (which I believe was the original point I made about this. It's a toss-up.). I'd rather have Bootcheck give up 7 in a blowout then Sosa give up grand slams in tight games.

Derrick Turnbow-R-Brewers May. 5 - 11:01 am et
The Journal News reports that the Mets are considering acquiring Derrick Turnbow.
A change of scenery could do the disgruntled Turnbow some good, but if the Brewers are going to trade the reliever they'll likely have to eat a significant portion of his $3.2 million contract.

Oh god. Not only is he bad, but he's one of the top 10 ugliest players.
Mets have to learn to hit when Santana's pitching.
In all but 2 of his starts he's faced the opposing team's best pitcher; Smoltz, Sheets, Hamels, Snell, Haren. So he's gotten some tough luck to that regard. But even still, the Mets can't hit for ****. Their power comes in spurts which are few and far between.

Will this be the season that Ozzie Guillen gets fired?
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3382020
Listen, this would be more acceptable if Ozzie was actually a good manager which he's not. He doesn't believe in OBP in the slighest, and thinks and bunting/hit-and-run plays will the most efficient offense to run. He also cannot contain his constant swearing, even while making good points about the city of Chicago, it's fans, and the media.

Ozzie is an idiot when it comes to dealing with people. As a manager, he's average. Small ball can definately work for a team, if the team is built as such. However, with guys like Konerko and Thome clogging up the basepaths, it probably isn't the best choice for them. Still, I doubt he'll get fired, this is hardly the worst crap to ever spill out of his mouth.

Kennedy was demoted and it's about time. Rasner pitched decent yesterday. He only gave up a two-run homer to Beltre. Will probably call up Kei Igawa to be the 5th starter.

Dude think about it, Kingfish is right. In order for Guillen to create his perfect offense of low OBP/high sac fly-bunt-guys, they need to get ride of a guy like Thome who sports a fantastic career OBP of .408. Konerko on the other hand is a werid argument cause his .353 career OBP shows he is on the median and therefore is a greater candidate for crazy Ozzie ball.

I guess last year was just a mirage. :( But Kennedy's still young; I hope he will become a good pitcher...eventually.

I don't happen to think it's very dusty-ish to realize neither guy is a speedster nor a contact hitter. Hard to play small ball with either one.

It's Dusty-ish to use that phrase since he hates guys who walk a lot and wants guys to swing more.

Talk about several lucky breaks, I think there should be a rule in baseball where a Win can be given to a reliever if the starter was ridiculously wild.

I wish we could have faced Johan. The Dodgers are tearing up left handed pitching and he's the best in the game and you know what they say, you have to beat the best to be the best.

Wins in a pitcher's record is completely overrated anyways.

8 walks is pretty damn wild. Dice-K was lucky to have a low BABIP for today. and I know wins are overrated. In fact, they are pretty useless and ineffective to judge a pitcher. I was suggesting amending some rules to apease fans that like Wins, but don't quite have the knowledge to think beyond it yet.

"I scouted her out for a month," he said. "I wanted to see her routine, and I wanted to see what time she came in, see how consistent she was. And sure enough, she was like a machine. She would come in right after work and get on the treadmill and do her abs. And finally, I build enough courage after about 3½ weeks. And I said, 'I know you are going to go do some abs after. And do you mind if I join you?'"
Wow...so basically he stalked her to learn her routine, and asked if he could join?

Kudos to A-Rod for using references to scouting. He probably would describe her as having all 5-tools. One of which wouldn't include passing out before he had a chance to slap the newborn out of the doctor's hands.
EDIT: How rude of A-Rod's daughter to be born at the same time he passed out on the hospital floor. What a selfish act of dettering attention from what's really important.
