What's wrong with LaRoche?

His sideburns.

No, he's just in a slump and not hitting well. But I think the Dodgers are going to keep him for next year with Dewitt at 2nd.

I doubt he'll be traded. Boston really can't afford to lose his bat. He's gone after the season though.

I wonder if they'd try to do a 3-team deal and get someone like Matt Holliday or Jason Bay if another team was willing to take Manny. Or just trade Manny and then go after Holliday or Bay.

NewYorkSpider

I think it would most likely be a trade for Jason Bay. The Rockies have asked a few teams about starting pitching. That pretty much sums up that they don't think they're too far back in the divison. Not sure if the Mets would get into a 3-team deal for Manny. The Phillies came up as a possible trade partner. I really doubt that anything happens with him.

The Sox would be idiots to trade Manny right now we are just getting Ortiz back and with out Mannys bat, forget the loss in production; Ortiz looses protection, and a team would idiots to trade FOR him right now. Its be a very expensive 2 month rental for a decent player who would likely start ****.

That said, Ima be PISSED if he is traded. Even when Nomar was traded I KIND OF understoof but this? Unlike Nomar, Manhy for the mast part has produced and stayed healthy. Manny been my fave baseball player since 1995; him coming to the Sox was utterly absurd. Only psosible thing that could match that in my excitment would be something like LeBron joining the Celtics.

After such a loveable and hot start in April where everybody was all over him, its gone so far down hill...

So much for my MVP prediction :csad:

Rosenthal's Latest: Teixeira, Fuentes, Laird
By Tim Dierkes [July 28 at 11:45am CST]
Here's Ken Rosenthal's latest.

Rosenthal firmly believes the Braves will find a match on a Mark Teixeira trade. He finds the D'Backs and Angels as the most reasonable fits. ESPN's Keith Law says the Braves have spoken to at least four teams about Tex within the past two days.
Despite yesterday's "highly unlikely" comment from Dan O'Dowd, Rosenthal says the Rockies would trade Brian Fuentes for a young MLB-ready starter.
It's still possible that the Mets stand pat on a corner outfielder and just deal with it internally or make a minor trade in August.
Rosenthal talked to one club official who finds a 50% chance of Gerald Laird or Jarrod Saltalamacchia being traded before the deadline. The Rangers want young pitching.

Spidey-Bat
07-28-2008, 02:30 PM
I don't think Teixeira will be traded. Braves want Jackson but he's the Dbacks best young hitter. Angels never trade their prospects and they've practically won the division already.

Manny Ramirez-OF-Red Sox Jul. 28 - 3:50 pm et

Phillies GM Pat Gillick says that his team is not interested in acquiring Manny Ramirez.

"At this point, there’s no interest on our part," Gillick told the paper. "We have no place to play the guy." Both the Phillies and the Mets have now publicly denied interest in Ramirez, and the Dodgers and Diamondbacks remain as rumored suitors.

Mark Teixeira-1B-Braves Jul. 28 - 4:18 pm et

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal believes that the Braves will ramp up efforts to trade Mark Teixeira after losing their series against the Phillies this weekend.

Rosenthal doesn't cite one of his "sources," so this seems to be a bit of speculation on his part. He suggests the Red Sox, Angels, Diamondbacks, Rays, Dodgers and Yankees as potential destinations, although he admits none are a perfect fit.

Jason Bay-OF-Pirates Jul. 28 - 4:12 pm et

A deal that would have sent Jason Bay to the Braves for four minor league prospects was reportedly nixed by Pirates owners.

Mark Teixeira-1B-Braves Jul. 28 - 5:58 pm et

Yahoo! Sports' Steve Henson reports that negotiations between the Diamondbacks and Braves are "pretty far along."

Henson believes the Braves are asking for either Conor Jackson or Chad Tracy, plus a prospect. Jackson is likely off the table, but if the Braves are willing to accept Tracy as the centerpiece of a deal, then the Diamondbacks have to seriously consider making the trade. Still, it could come down to the prospect. The Diamondbacks don't have much to offer besides Max Scherzer and Jarrod Parker after giving up a big portion of their system for Dan Haren, and it's doubtful that they'd part with either right-hander.

An MRI on Tim Hudson's elbow revealed ligament damage that could sideline him for the rest of the season.

We'll see.

In April, it seemed certain Manny is staying.

In July, it seems certain he is going.

How will it be in October? Who knows. If he keeps his mouth shut, plays and plays well, and is his usual clutch self in October, it will be a toss up.

Picking up Manny's option will be much bigger than Manny himself. Theyll need to find a replacement. The starting outfield will not be Crisp, Elsbury, and Drew. Hell niether Coco or Elsbury really hit well enough to warrant starting.

If they cant find a right handed power hitter they're happy with, it'll be awefuly tempting to keep Manny for 2009,especially if we find success in October. For as annoying as he is, they know they wont be able to win if they dont have somebody atleast close to his caliber, which might be tough to find.

Now it sounds like the D'backs and Braves aren't agreeing on a deal for Teixeira. One writer says the Angels, Rays, and Yankees are more likely to acquire him.

Angels don't want to trade Kotchman and the Braves don't like Morales so they're not really likely, IMO. Rays could move Pena to DH and put Teixeira at 1B. However I would think they'd want pitching. They could move Pena but they just extended him. Yankees make no sense. They have 3 guys to play 1B (albeit not well). Their offense is really the least of their worries even after a 13-4 loss.

The New York Post believes the Red Sox and Dodgers are still talking about a deal that would send Manny Ramirez to Los Angeles, with the cash to cover his salary, in return for Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier.

Boston would likely prefer Kemp, who is both more talented and a better fit for a lineup that would get awfully lefty heavy with Ethier. Sources: Braves deal Teixeira to Angels for Kotchman

One of the biggest names bandied about as Thursday's trade deadline approaches has found a new home.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark on Tuesday that Atlanta Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira is headed to the Los Angeles Angels for Casey Kotchman and minor league pitcher Steven Marek.

Kotchman was pulled off the field during pregame warmups at Fenway Park on Tuesday afternoon, further fueling speculation that a deal was in place.

Teixeira was traded to the Braves from the Texas Rangers in a deadline deal last season, but he is in the last year of his contract. With Atlanta falling out of contention, it seemed logical that the team would try to move him.

The switch-hitting Teixeira is batting .283 with 20 home runs and 78 RBIs this season.

Kotchman, who is known as much for his defense at first base as his bat, is batting .287 with 12 homers and 54 RBIs for the first-place Angels.

Report: Pirates, Rays deep in talks over Bay

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that the Pirates and Rays "are deep into trade talks" over Jason Bay.

The newspaper notes that "no truly elite prospect is being offered for Bay," but "that has not stopped management from entertaining offers." However, an unnamed sourced guessed that there's a "better than 50-50" chance of Bay remaining in Pittsburgh beyond the trading deadline. Jul. 30 - 10:33 am et

^Hanley Ramirez or Dan Uggla

Also, according to Jon Heyman the Phillies and Marlins are in on Manny Ramirez. Philly is treating it as a salary dump and isn't offering much. Marlins are serious. Jeremy Hermida would probably be in the deal. Heyman said the Mets aren't interested but might bid since those two teams are. However, Manny may not want to go to New York b/c of the attention.

Hanleys the only player the Sox hould have any interest in in Florida. The word from Florida is the Sox might keep him and pick up his option and THEN trade him while picking up some of his salary. It would essentially be like getting Manny Ramirez for say, 10 million a season. The Sox could get a lot more for him that way.

This is from John Perrotto at Baseball Prospectus.

Multipe baseball sources say the Red Sox are on the verge of sending disgrunted left fielder Manny Ramirez to the Marlins in a trade for a package of three players that included low Class A Greensboro outfielder Mike Stanton, an 18-year-old who is hitting .275/.351/.569 with 26 home runs in 96 games.

I'm now hearing that a three-way trade with the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates is being thrown around. Ramirez would go to the Marlins, while Jeremy Hermida would go to the Pirates, and Jason Bay would go to the Red Sox.

All these stupid Boston fans and writers and putting the way manny plays the game as more important than how he produces; or in other words, the way the team plays (hard, hustling) is more important than winning, if given the chouce which with Manny, we are.

There's still a slight chance that the deal falls through, but it seems more and more likely that all the teams involved are getting what they want. I think Pittsburgh was upset about something, but they got it worked out. Even if Pittsburgh drops out, another team could get involved or the Marlins/Red Sox could just trade players.

And Excel, you should hold off on what you say about Theo Epstein. What if Jason Bay comes in and helps the Red Sox take back over the divison. The Red Sox have lost 5 of 6. I think it's all because of the Manny situation. This deal could be gold for the Red Sox.

You stop right there. Phillips is a dumbass. You need to wake up and smell the coffee. Manny is fixated on money and only money. When a player is essentially on strike because he's not getting what he wants, it's time to kick his ass out on the curb. Even if he's the best player on the team, it doesn't help when he's not playing.

Report: Griffey deciding on deal to White Sox

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Ken Griffey Jr. is deciding whether or not to accept a trade to the White Sox.

Griffey has the right to block any trade, but he figures to be a free agent this winter anyway and moving to a first-place team would seemingly be plenty enticing. However, with Jermaine Dye and Carlos Quentin in the outfield corners and Jim Thome at designated hitter the White Sox don't have anywhere to play Griffey unless they move him back to center field, which would be plenty ugly defensively while also requiring reduced playing time for Nick Swisher or Paul Konerko. The Marlins have one of the best farm systems in the majors, IMO, only the Twins have a better one. They can afford to lose some prospects if it means winning today. Hell, we drafted Johan Santana, lol.

All I can say is that if the Red Sox acquire Bay in the Manny deal, then they pretty much replaced his offense. It's a brilliant move if they can pull it off. At this point Manny isn't going to give you any offense that Bay can't replace (30 HR, 100 RBI or so). Bay is still relatively young at 29 as well. He can fill an offensive void for another 5 years if the Red Sox acquire him and resign him. He'd fit in perfect with Ortiz, Drew, and Lowell as the team's power hitters.

A source told MLB.com that the Rays will get Jason Bay from the Pirates for Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann.

It's a very good trade for the Rays if true. Brignac is one of the game's top infield prospects, but the Rays were able avoid surrendering a second top-notch talent for a player they'd have under control at a very modest price through the end of 2009. If the Pirates trade Bay without getting an outfielder, they could call up Nyjer Morgan to help out. Andrew McCutchen is another possibility, but there's little reason to think he's ready. Mannys been pushing for his option to get picked up for the past year. The whole cause of this "Manny vs. the front office" is he was upset they didnt pick up option quick enough like they did with Pedro.

He did his part, helped to win two Word Series, his place in Sox history is solidified. However, the reason he was let go was not based on production, it was based on his personality. Manny did not want to be here, why would you as a fan, want him here?

Pierre and Jones should only play when the 3 have days off. But Jones 18 million dollar contract will force him into the lineup. Eh, whatever. As long as Kemp is in the lineup I'm happy.

Only thing I'm concerned about is Manny's defense. But I think his offense will more than make up for it. I can't believe the Dodgers actually have a threat in the lineup. THE DODGERS!!! WHAT?

In other news about my beloved team

BALTIMORE -- On Tuesday night, Orioles pitcher Daniel Cabrera was ejected in the eighth inning after hitting the left arm of Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez.

Cabrera found out that pitch is going to cost him a lot more than he may have thought on Thursday.
Cabrera was suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount for what vice president of on-field operations Bob Watson referred to in a press release as "intentionally throwing a pitch in the head area" of Rodriguez.
Yankees reliever Edwar Ramirez was suspended three games and also fined an undisclosed amount for committing the same offense one day later, throwing at Orioles first baseman Kevin Millar in the seventh inning at Yankee Stadium -- a pitch deemed to be in retaliation for Rodriguez's plunking one night earlier. The Yankees reliever appealed the suspension, putting the punishment on hold until his case can be heard.
Cabrera and the Orioles were fuming when the hurler was ejected Tuesday night. There had been no warnings issued, but home-plate umpire Chad Fairchild said he felt Rodriguez's home run in his previous at-bat in the sixth served as justification enough that Cabrera was looking for retaliation with the pitch.
"It was tough, because I know everybody in the whole stadium and every player, they know I'm not trying to hit A-Rod," Cabrera said after the game. "So he took me out, and there's nothing I can do."
Orioles manager Dave Trembley was equally mystified and stated his case to Fairchild on the field but it was to no avail.
"He was basing his decision on the previous at-bat that Rodriguez hit a home run and now the very next at-bat we pitched inside to him," Trembley said. "And I said, 'Chad, I have seen a lot of baseball games and the one thing you just did is the one thing we've been trying to avoid. You just let 54,000 people back in this game.' We can agree to disagree on that ... but I would bet the farm that Cabrera wasn't throwing [at him] in that situation."
"My thinking with the ejection is when Alex came to bat the prior time, he had hit a home run," Fairchild said on Tuesday. "And the very first pitch his next at-bat was up towards the head area. I deemed that pitch intentional and I removed Cabrera from the game."
If Cabrera does not choose to appeal the suspension, he will miss his next scheduled start, slated for Sunday, against the Mariners. After Wednesday's game, Ramirez, who was ejected after the pitch to Millar, also insisted that his pitch was unintentional, but Millar wasn't convinced, saying he felt "100 percent" sure that there was intent behind the pitch.

The Providence Journal reports that Red Sox GM Theo Epstein met with team veterans on Wednesday, and they told him that Manny Ramirez had to go.
The players were not only tired of Manny's antics and felt that he was a distraction, but they didn't trust that they could count on him during the pennant race. One story in the Boston Herald on Friday quoted a teammate as saying "He just doesn't care." Another Herald story discussed his refusal to visit with young cancer patients, calling him a "bum." It seems most everyone involved with Manny in Boston is happy to see him go.

Wow...is Manny Ramirez really wearing #99?

http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/rids/20080801/i/r1228497925.jpg?

By the standing ovation that lasted over a minute long for Jason Bay, doesn't seem like the Red Sox fans are sad to see him go. Although he seems to think they miss him.

"I want to say from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the fans of Boston," Ramirez said. "I love you guys. You've been with me through ups and downs."

In front of a very large media contingency, Ramirez was also peppered with questions about his controversial departure from the Red Sox. He didn't bite.

"Boston is in the past," Ramirez said. "When people ask about Boston I put my brain on pause."

Specifically, he was asked about reports that Red Sox veterans voted to trade him.

"I'm not going to waste any energy when people talk like that," he said. "I want people to judge me on what I do here, not what I did in Boston."

His agent, Scott Boras, offered the following comment on Manny's departure:

"In Boston, the fans, the organization, and the teammates were never an issue," Boras said. "He preferred another city along the lines of the lifestyle he had in Cleveland."

Don't let the door hit you on the way out #99.

Please, you're just jealous.

Those three young kids did nothing for the Dodgers.

Yep, I'd love nothing for than a prima donna clubhouse cancer who refuses to see cancer patients, looks like a clown in LF, and pulls himself out of the lineup whenever a good pitcher is opposing him. :whatever:

Andy LaRoche never got consistent playing them. Dodgers are a better team with him for several years than Manny for 2 months.

EDIT: Manny grounded out to SS in his first at bat. How long did it take him to get to 1st? 7 seconds?

Bay had a nice debut. Great catch and nice triple. 2 strike outs...but the pitchers pitched like him they were afraid; good stuff. :yay:

Mannys wearing 99? What happened to 28?

And when did the dogers get such sweet uni's??

The one time Ponson pitches a great game, we can't score any runs.

Rivera sucks in tie games.

It's getting bad that he can't pitch in tie games. He's still having a great season.

who won the yanks game today?

There's a website called ESPN.com. I think they cover sports. You can check there.

What a day. A sweet 1-0 victory. Excel finally relenting on his Manny love. And WhySoSerious asking us for scores, only to be denied yet again.

B-e-a-utiful.
