when a rain delay causes the game to start at 10 eastern, that's when I have an issue with these start times.

Goddamn nail biter till the end. This team stepped up in the playoffs and dominated. Good to see guys like Rollins and Burrell get a championship as they've been in the system so long and been through the worst. What a team...what a year..World Champs!

Macha, who managed the A's to a 368-280 record from 2003-2006, apparently beat out Bob Brenly and Willie Randolph for the job.

Yes, New Yorkers have. While at least 1 team has won a championship each decade, not everyone is a fan. The Rangers winning in 1994 was huge because not everyone was an Islanders fan or Devils fan. Yankees winning in 1996 was huge because not everyone is a Mets fan.

Uh, no. Santana's 234.3 innings were far more valuable than Lidge's 69.3 innings. Sorry, but that is probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen you post.
Cause those 234 got you into the playoffs. I actually edited my post before you posted...We wouldn't be WS Champs right now if it wasn't for Lidge. The Phillies proved you can win with average starting pitching. Yes Hamels is a stud, but there is a big huge drop off after.
I'll take a guy that can have an effect on 72 games then a guy who can only effect 34...
You guys had like 30 blown saves, and leads lose after the 7th(exageration, but could be close), you'd be the dumb one to think a top closer wouldn't change your outcome.

As with all teams, winning the Series has clearly caused Donnie to overvalue the players on his team and begin making inane statements. Anyone who would take Lidge over Santana is thinking with something besides his brain.

There is no over value at all. I don't think Johan Santana helped The Mets that much this year. What did he add overall, 5 or so wins? Meanwhile Lidge converted every save chance he and we didn't lose a game when we had a lead after the 8th all year.
I didn't say Lidge >>>>Santana or Santana sucks....I just think that Lidge was a huge reason as to why we made the playoffs and went on to win the Series, and a better bullpen would have changed The Mets outcome.
I'd take Santana in a heartbeat, but not at the cost of a lights out closer.

As much as it pains me to say it, congrats to the Phillies. Yes, there were some **** calls by the umps that didn't go our way, but that doesn't matter. The Rays got beat, pure and simple. The Phils bats came to life when needed, and their bullpen did it's job.
The Rays looked lethargic the majority of the series, and the Phillies took advantage of that. Which is what good teams do.
So congrats, Philly. Hopefully we'll see you again next season, and the Rays beat your sorry ass. :word:
Everyone off the bandwagon!
Eh, I've been on the Rays wagon for five years, so I'm definitely not jumping off when the team is finally worth a ****.
I'm curious to see how many do jump off though. All the transplant fans from Northern cities who were cheering on the Rays since their team(s) were out of contention and such.
Hopefully this success will continue and the Rays can build a decent fan base in the Bay area.

I'd rather have Lidge at moment then Santana. What good is 7-8 strong innings if the lead gets blown. Lidge was our MVP
He'll get Votes.
He converted every save and tied the playoff record
Starters are ALWAYS worth more in value than relievers. The perception that Santana wasn't very helpful to his team was due to the fact that the Mets had a **** bullpen that couldn't hold a lead. If you give the Mets a reliable closer and setup man this changes everything. Gagne shamefully won the cy in '03 and he turned to ****, and he ends up on the Mitchell report. What Lidge has done this season was quite impressive given he pitched at Citizens Bank most of the time, but someone like Lincecum and Santana obviously should be considered first before any reliever.

Except Santana's impact isn't limited to the 34 games he pitches. He gives the bullpen a rest every 5 days which helps in the other games.
I don't care how good a closer is. Unless he has an ungodly year like Dennis Eckersley in 1989, there is no way a closer is more valuable than an ace who pitches 235 innings over the year.

Unless Lidge would have pitched multiple innings (which he never did in the regular season), it wouldn't have changed anything. Wagner WAS having a good season in the first half.

Wow.......just......wow.........I am speechless. I am without speech.

You are grossly overrating the last 3 outs of a game. The Indians won 97 games with Joe Borowski last year. Are you going to tell me Joe Borowski was more important than Sabathia or Carmona because he saved 47 games?

If you say that you want Lidge over Santana, on a pure basis of their abilities, then you are overvaluing him. It happens with every World Series winning team. Fans love their players and would rather have them over anyone, even much better players. I'm guilty of it too, from back in 2003. That said, Santana is clearly a more valuable pitcher to a team.

I just saw footage of Rollins talking at CBP after the Phillies' parade. What is Phillie's obsession with NY and the Mets? I never knew their inferiority complex was THIS extreme.
