The Tarja Turunen Appreciation Thread.

I don't know if there is anyone else in this messageboard who is as much of a Tarja fan as I am, but I thought it would be nice to create a thread dedicated to her talents in anticipation of her upcoming solo album, My Winter Storm which will be released in a few weeks. I have to say I became a fan of her work with Nightwish. It's my opinion after listening to the samples of the songs on her new album she has raised the bar and come into her own without Tuomas and Nightwish holding her back.

Oh, I can call myself a fan. I like Tarja a lot. And her voice is just incredible. Tuomas may be a genius, but she was the voice that made the Nightwish songs sound so great. I don't think the new singer, Annette, will be a match, not even close (I listened to some samples on youtube, her voice is just ordinary). Anyway, I hope that Tarja's new album will be a great hit.

I've preordered it from Amazon.com. I've been listening to the samples and leaked full songs on Youtube. It's going to be a very special album in my collection.

And yes, Anette's voice is rather bland, isn't it? It's too easy to sing to (It involves alot of high pitched yelling type falsetto which is why I've started not liking Evanescence's studio music.) whereas Tarja's operatic voice is more of a challenge.

Man, Tarja had a special voice. She has a wonderful soprano voice, while Annette's voice is absolutely ordinary. And yes, that yelling, squeeking thing that she does has nothing unique, nothing atractive. I don't see a future too bright for Nightwish.

I liked the new album a lot. Very good. Ciarán's Well and Dead Alive are the best. Poison cover (Alice Cooper's) is also cool.

Tarja still has that special voice dear. She's just using it for her solo singing career now. :p

I don't know if Nightwish is dead just yet. It might be slightly lower without as powerful and theatric a singer as Tarja. I'm just anxious to see who really comes out on top though because Nightwisj seems to have the early advantage with DPP getting respectable chart rankings. But let's see how My Winter Storm does eh?

The two songs I like would be Lost Northern Star and Damned and Divine. But really, all the songs are pretty good to me.

G, you're right, man: Tarja STILL has that unique voice. I didn't express myself correctly. My bad. Well, I don't doubt Nightwish will have its success in the charts and among its fans, but I'm not too confortable thinking that someone else will sing "Sleeping Sun", just to give an example. It's weird and...wrong.:huh:

I'm a huge fan of Nightwish and have always appreciated the talent that Tarja has. It's a shame things didn't work out between her and the band. I truly feel that Dark Passion Play was an album that was meant for Tarja's voice.

Annette is an alright singer, she's just no Tarja and her range clearly shows with the material.

I do believe that somewhere down the line Tarja and the band will reconcile their differences and get together again.

Have you ever heard Anette's version of Slaying the Dreamer? I think she reaches some tonal registers only Dogs and Cats can hear. I try to find current videos but all I can find are early concerts which makes me think they took the song off the setlist or it's too painful for people to record.
