CraveOnline just failed EPICALLY. They have a video up that has what they claim to be the official Daft Punk Tron Legacy theme music. Well, I just sent them an email saying that, after much research on youtube, it's a fake. It's just another f-ing remix! I asked them to please either retitle the video properly or take it down as to avoid confusion.
Here's the video in question:
http://www.craveonline.com/entertainment/music/video/daft-punk-tron-legacy-theme-175171
I dont know, it sounds official to me.

it's not. Here's what it sounded like at SDCC last year:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyUwb6rvBbs&feature=related
It's completely different that the one in CO's video, which is nothing more than a mish-mash of the "Crystal Luv" remix and someone else's remix.

Question will we be able to play this game using a standard 360 controller ? & does this game have anything to do with the movies or is it its own story ?

This article states it's a prequel;

AHA! So it is! How did I not notice that? Then this most likely means that this mysterious program is, in fact
none other than Tron himself. But this begs the question as to why Tron would turn to the dark side like that? Maybe the fact that Yori's not in this film may have something to do with it....:csad: Hopefully, either the prequel graphic novel and/or the Tron: Evolution game can elaborate on this mystery...
Anyway, I'll be here right when the timer on the /identityraid website hits zero and I'll post what we get as soon as it's up! See you guys then!:woot:

Let's say our assumption is true and he is fact Tron, maybe he infiltrated the "red" faction for Flynn benefits or it is just a nod to first movie. I am really curious if we will indeed see Tron or not.

Kosinski and Lisberger confirmed months ago that Tron IS in the movie, although how big of a role he'll have remains a mystery as well.

Common sense would suggest that they must've used the same de-aging fx on Bruce Boxleitner as they've used for Bridges.
I wonder if we're gonna get an image at some point of yuo-know-who or if its going to be a surprise for the movie?

They're keeping it within the same tone as the original. Sure, it's definitely not going to be as campy as the first first may feel now, but I don't really see a reason for it to be pushed to PG-13. There's no blood, swearing(at least not explicit), sex, etc.

The CG eyes of Clu 2 look way to fake for me. If ILM can do realistic looking eyes for Davey Jones then why can't Digital Domain do it four years later on Clu 2? Even Weta's eyes on the Navi in Avatar are more realistic. These studios farm out their work to smaller visual effects houses to save a buck, but the results are always less convincing. I think I'm the only one who thought Digital Domain's work on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button wasn't that good, I couldn't believe that it won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects that year. That's probably why Disney hired them for Tron because of thier award winning work on Benjamin Button for CG face replacement.

It's pretty obvious that the folks behind the MPAA are morally retarded, they only really care about the technical crap. Getting back to violence, your conventional action flick features humans shooting, stabbing, etc. each other. Here, we're given files "deprogramming" one another with 2 by 4's, javelin discs and so forth. I'm sure they'd let it slide. I remember the awful FF sequel featured Dr. Doom blowing a few people apart. Of course,

WIth the eyes and facial experession, what's kinda missing are little muscles that we don't notice on our faces. The little jerks & twitches that makes it look organic. They're still in the valley..the UNCANNY valley.

I believe that creating the subtle movements on the face, there needs to be the creation of a muscles system under the skin to get a convincing result. It's probably to expensive for the fat cats at Disney to spend on one picture to do that.

ILM and WETA have little to no experience on lengthy exposure with human faces. Digital Domain is the same team behind Benjamin Button, a film that most people failed to even realize utilized much special effects. It's a testament to their work that that character contained almost total cgi transparency.
I highly doubt any other studio could have done much better than what we have now. It's very impressive work, I must say. And I'm very critical of cgi doubles.

Nice trailer, not as exciting as the first one but we see more details on the vehicles.
The lightcycles are particulary good, the internal engine in motion, all the moving parts, great. It might be the best ride ever created next to Akira bike.
About the CGI I found them fine save for Clu face animation and rendering and Quorra face when she is in the lightcycle.

Well, he's kinda right, but I feel like they had to do less for X3. That was less of a de-aging as it was a de-wrinkling. This is pretty much recreating a whole person as they were 25+ years ago. Overall, I think Tron has the harder job to do and more kinks to work through. Though I do think the younger Flynn CG looks great at this stage.

new trailer kicks ass, but as a Tron trailer it's just 'okay'. CG Jeff Bridges is pretty awesome, BUT they've still got a lot of work to do. his eyes aren't quite convincing and his lips/expressions don't match the audio very well. i hope they can nail everything down by December though. i also hope they're working with some of the guys who worked on Avatar. i understand the argument that the Na'vi aren't human, but there is a life in their eyes that is missing from Bridges in these shots.
that being said, i'm STILL stoked about this movie...even more so after see this trailer!

Bridges did motion capture, and they just de-aged him like Benjamin Button, right?
DorkyFresh
07-22-2010, 06:45 PM
i think it's a safe bet that Bridges did some motion capture for his face while recording the dialogue, but at the same time that can only do but so much. the shot of him saying "C'MON!" was probably the weakest shot and if they only used the data they got from his face then they should go back and tweak it. he had next to NO expression as he was saying that. it wasn't exciting, it was just...odd. his face simply didn't match his voice in that shot. he looked great when his helmet retracted and while he was smiling as he walked up to Sam, but as he was delivering his lines "I'm not your father" (anti-Vader much?) his face went emotionless and even as he said he's very happy to see Sam, his eyes looked 'dead' even though he was smirking. the little head bob as he turns doesn't help either as it looks unnatural.
so while i'm sure Bridges contributed as much as he can in turns of mocap, it's really up to the animators to bring these characters to life.

Holy f***!! I'm reverting back to my 9 year old self after seeing the new trailer for this. In spite of my hatred toward Disney, I so much have to see this film. As for the "unfinished" looking Clu FX, just remember that the movie is still five months away. Think back to when they first previewed Iron Man during the Super Bowl in 08' and the CG looked all PlayStation-ish, but when the finished film was released, it looked perfect. To those of you who weren't born when the original Tron came out, just......relax.......and........be.........patien t. Some of us have waited 28 years for this sequel. If we can make it, so can the rest of you.

they've got Jeff's eyes wrong. it's close, but it looks like he has sleepy eye syndrome. his upper eyelids are too slanted. Jeff naturally has small eyes, but they're not slanted like that especially when he was younger...

They were Bill Nighy's real eyes, everything else was CGI except eyes and mouth movements.
not to be a d***, but Davy Jones was 100% CGI, including his eyes. they did away with using his real eyes once they realized they could pull off the same visual with less effort.
I was thinking that cgi bridges looks kinda wierd in the eyes and mouth on purpose since its like the computer and not real Jeff
nah...it's like that because they haven't quite mastered CG humans yet. if they meant for Bridges to look like that, then for consistency sake they should've made ALL the characters in the world of TRON look like that.

This is going to be great. The best part is that it's a direct sequel with actual actors from the first movie and not some lame-o pseudo sequel.
CGI Jeff looks a little bit like his brother Beau to me.

The old Bridges is Flynn. The real guy who in the first movie got sucked into the world of Tron. He has been there for 20 something years so he's now old as ****. The younger Bridges is Clue a computer program in his image from when he first got sucked into the world as a young man, hence why he looks young. I'm not a big Tron fan, so I maye have gotten a few specifics wrong but that's the gist of it.

I think most of the mainstream who see this trailer in theatres are going to be wowed by the CG Flynn, because they aren't able to view it frame by frame and what not. actually all three guys (peter, Adam, Dan) said it ...cheesy. Even Dan said it was cheesy but in a good way but it's hard to read him sometimes. If you listen to the slash film podcast, when Dan's a guest, he's usually very optimistic BUT to the point where it somewhat blinds his views. SO if a guy like him says it's cheesy, I might have to go "HMMMM".
dark_b

like you said Dan is always 100 % optimistic. and this is what also scares me. he had a ''meh'' face. and this is comic con. i can not belive what Dan says on the podcast. but at comics con after the Tron pannel he looked like it was meh.
maybe hes girlfriend broke up with him 20 seconds before he was on the video? ehehehhe ;)
about cheesy in a good way. i think that they lowered their expectation for the story and since its a tron movie they maybe think it fits with the old movie. i disagree here. this is a modern hollywood movie. it needs to feel comfortable. if it desnt feel comfortable then this movie could be an underperformer.

I tend to think that the general public is not actors illiterate, Bridges is an "old" man, people ( who doesn't live in a cave ) know him ( he isn't a new comer in the field ) so they will know that the young version of himself is a special effect ( CGI or whatever ).

Nostalgia is like acid flashbacks for anyone 25-45 apparently, because everyone remembers it being better than it probably is/was. After 10 years of reading comments from people posting online, I have to say it's pretty bad. Rose Colored glasses and 20/20 hindsight, mixed with childhood expectation, gotta love it.

Agree on the first part of your sentence, I disagree about the second part. It was "life changer" at the time, computers were new and this movie was already using an advanced concept à la Matrix.
Maybe it is me but I still like old special effects in movies when done well such as Tron or even stop motion in Jason and the Argonauts. For me it is like old paintings, the pieces by DaVinci, Rambrant and the like are still masterpieces, I feel the same way with old SFX.

Tron was also one of the first notable movies about Video Games that I remember, next to The Last Starfighter. Both films helped pioneer CG in motion pictures. But it was far from a game changer. Honestly till recently, it was considered a joke and a disappointment. Most people my age talk highly of it, till they watch it again. That is why this sequel looks so good and cool to me, because it is such an overall improvement, compared to the original.

I don't know... to be honest, I think people get a little too hung up on dialogue in movies. Granted, there are movies with AWFUL dialogue, but sometimes I seriously wonder what fans expect characters in movies to say. Screenwriters have a tough enough job as it is, trying to make characters' speech feel natural while not making it boring. I think the Internet as a whole has blown up the concept of "bad dialogue" to epic proportions.
It's like with James Cameron's movies. Now, I'm not the biggest Cameron fan, but people who hate him and trash his films (usually before they even watch them), say all the dialogue in his movies is "crap." I don't know... yeah, there are some bad lines here and there, but you can find that in any movie. You can find bad lines in The Dark Knight. You can find bad lines in Casablanca. In Gone With the Wind.
So maybe their comments about the film's dialogue are spot on, but I'll wait and see. Until I hear Clu or Sam say "Mesa day startin pretty okee-day with a brisky morning munchy," I'm not going to panic.

Good to know. I just wonder sometimes if any these brilliant dialogue critics that populate the Web have ever even ATTEMPTED to write a screenplay in their lives. It's hard to do... a lot harder than most fanboys understand. Sometimes I'm left scratching my head when I hear that a studio has hired a screenwriter (whose previous work isn't all that impressive or who has never worked in the particular genre before) to rework a script by someone, but I try to keep in mind that professional screenwriters have a better sense of what works in a film than first timers or novelists and comic book writers.

Considering what we refer to as great films (Star Wars, Raiders, LOTR, Star Trek, TDK, Blade Runner), genre fans are the last people who should complain about bad dialogue and delivery IMO. This is a Genre that wallows in material that isn't realistic and often fantastic, why should the delivery sound like something you hear every day?

Screenwriting is neither easy nor difficult I would say. And I think dialogue is easier to write than people think. It's harder because you are trying too hard, which happens to me. It's difficult to write out a script with the whole thing in your head and know where everything goes.
I don't have an exact preference of how dialogue should be written. There's alot of dialogue in films that are just for films and people would never say in the real world. It's fine in films, and depending on where the film takes place or what it's all about. But dialogue like Kevin Smith or Quinten Tarantino is welcome because it feels real, yet they are still able to accomplish good dialogue.

Smith and Tarantino's dialogue is far removed from being realistic.
Yeah, they tend to insert random conversations about things that essentially don't concern the plot, which is realistic in the sense that real people have multiple things on their mind and therefore, everything we say isn't going to concern the "main plot" of our lives.
However, they take it to the extreme and make sure that the dialogue is also funny and often over the top, which is of course, only something you'd see in a movie. So with them, it kind of goes both ways.

Yes. I never bothered to look up the definition but have always used it when I was basically trying to say a movie looks cheap and silly or goofy.
