North American Union a bad idea
By AL HEGLAND
Penn
I am writing to alert people of a grave danger facing our national sovereignty and our ability to continue our lives as free Americans.
It comes from our own government, both elected and appointed officials, and those behind the scenes who control them.
It's called the North American Union, a political movement plotted by them to create an equivalent to the European Union by gradually passing laws, signing treaties, failing to enforce laws, ultimately to create first an economic and later a political merger of the United States, Canada and Mexico.
It's been in progress since 1990 or earlier. It explains our failure to enforce our immigration laws. The North American Free Trade Agreement and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade are part of it. The planned Mexican-American superhighway is part of it.
Those engaged in this enterprise ignore security problems created by open borders. They want enough Mexicans in the U.S. to wield political power until each state is forced to succumb to federally imposed regulations, stripping them of their right to enforce their laws.
Talk and news shows advocating amnesty are part of it. George Bush and John Kerry both support it.
Mexicans and Central/South Americans are being driven here by economic hardships created by NAFTA, pricing their commodities off their markets and reducing the demand for labor. Our government makes only half-hearted efforts to stem the swarm. The Mexican Mafia controls border towns in Texas, where crime is rampant, and the streets of many big western cities. Local police are outnumbered and outgunned.
Where is the Border Patrol and immigration enforcement?
NAU is on the way. The U.S. and Canadian dollars and the worthless peso will be scrapped and replaced by the "Namero." Anyone from the three former countries will be allowed to move freely anywhere in North America; border patrols will be things of the past. Drug smugglers won't have to smuggle, but will simply haul it on the superhighway. No one from Mexico or Canada will be deported, so why bother about Panamanians?
Of the politicians who made or are making the run for president, only Tom Tancredo seriously addressed immigration, but even he never mentioned the NAU. All our senators and congressmen secretly have signed on to it.
We seriously need to consider replacing not just the president but every member of the House and Senate with people who will not stand for the NAU and will commit to destroying it. If we don't, it will destroy us.
Here is the official U.S. Government website in response:

I'm not quick to believe a lot of the junk about this subject but have always felt that I should at least keep an open mind.
I've been reading various books and doing research on some of these so-called conspiracy theories for quite sometime now and I've found that not all of them should be dismissed.
When a major media outlet like CNN is reporting it I think its very foolish to simply dismiss it as mere conspiracy theories.
I would rather take something like this seriously and research it and keep close watch and then be proven wrong than to disregard it only to find out it was true.

I agree with you but once this the North American Union happens its over.
If the majority of the people can wake up before this takes place we can still salvage the Constitution and enforce it as the governing force in our country.

If CNN was dong some kind of special report, that'd be one thing, but this is just a segment on Lou Dobbs. The story is getting play because it's become a prominent rumor. Frankly, I don't think that's because of any credibility, but rather because it's the kind of thing a lot of the more xenophobic types* have been convinced is going to happen for years now.

The dollar is worth 4 cents to the dollar of 1913, the last time the dollar was backed by anything. Since 1973, all petroleum has been traded in U.S. dollars, the only thing keeping the dollar afloat at this moment. If the rest of the OPEC nations decided to follow Iraq, Iran, Venezuela, and North Korea in switching from dollars to euros, it would collapse the value of the dollar.
A "North American Union" would sound pretty damn nice right about then.

It has nothing to do with who you are. A north american union would be the end of U.S. national sovereignty and the U.S. constitution.
Unless you're mexican and would like nothing more than for your ****hole of a nation to siphon off any prosperity that the U.S. has to offer, I don't see why you would welcome the idea of such a union and the continental-size government it would usher in.

Oh please! the European Uniion has this deal going for ages now and or constitution here in my country is still fine and dandy... except for or own, national politicians destroying it nut I digress. In fact, or constitutional rights were saved a couple of times because the EU stepped in as a super institution.

why don't we refer to canadians and south americans as americans? they're members of the north and south american continents, right? if it's in the continent's title, wouldn't it be accurate to call them americans? like in europe, spanish people are referred to as europeans sometimes, right? why are people from the u.s. so protective of that title that they don't want anyone else to share it?

hahahaha! subtle.
untrue, but subtle nonetheless, since US industry seems pretty content to " syphon off" prosperity from exploitation of Mexican resources.

So what? A nation is just a legal term.
I think its a state that is considered a legal body, whereas nations can exist culturally and socially and without a state. Like how Native peoples refer to themselves as a nation within Canada or the US. Sorry about the nitpick :).
If this were possible, whom exactly would benefit? Because it seems to me a way for North American business interest to gain a lot of land capital and labour quickly and without the legal hassels (though those barely exist now under NAFTA). Not that there couldn't be other benefits...

I'm against this. I"m all for coming together, but only in a democratic fashion supported by the people of all nations involved with representatives having a say. Not to mention the United States and Mexico are both up to their ears in debt, and practically nobody in Mexico speaks English.
This is not how it should be done. The United States is already divided enough. Imagine when we join with Mexico.

My father is a close consultant for Congressman Spencer Bachus. He is the leading Republican in the House Committee on Financial Services. If the makings of a North American Union were to start, it would start in that committee.
It is never mentioned and generally laughed about. There is no movement towards this.

Well, United-Statesians sounds a little awkward. Our national title is "The United States of America." So, the common understanding of "American" is that it denotes a citizen of the United States, not a citizen of a continent (that definition could change over time, but that's the way it is, now). When you hear that someone is an American, you think they're from the United States and not another country on this side of the globe. When you hear that someone is a European, you assume that they're a member of one of the countries that make up the European continent.
It really just boils down to the fact that the last word in our national name happens to be the same as the last word in our continent name.
