3. Missouri
4. USC
5. Texas
6. LSU
7. Ohio State
8. Clemson
9. West Virginia
10. Florida
11. Penn State
12. Virginia Tech

I figured Florida would be in the top 5, since they look pretty damn good next year. I'd put GA at number one, USC #2.

I hate that MSU is ranked that high.

They're going to lose a home game to Miami of Ohio but go into Notre Dame and Penn State and leave with wins? Notre Dame will be significantly better than this year, and PSU is always strong. Illinois i cant see winning in the big house either.

They'll have another App State moment against Miami. Just a hunch.
Notre Dame will be better, but they'll have to be 38.01 points better.
Penn State hasn't beaten Big Blue since 1996. I've every reason to predict a victory.

Michigan lost to app state because they cant defend the spread offense, i'd certainly imagine that would change with Rich Rodriguez in town.

Notre Dame might not beat Michigan, but i'm just saying it's more likely than Michigan losing to Miami of Ohio. Especially because it's at home.

And now that Mallet is transferring, who knows how good Michigan will be. He was to be the solid option at QB after Henne. I dont know if whoever his replacement will be is going to be able to handle 110,000 PSU fans and the Lions strong defense.

Based on what I have seen, I would take Jonathan Stewart from Oregon ahead of McFadden if your looking for a straight up running back. 25 pounds bigger and more compact then DMC but only .06 slower in his 40.

Was there a running back in the country more overrated than Slaton?

Nope. Slaton earned his buzz with his amazing season last year, but this year he sucked. He may have gotten carried away with his success last year; he aint run-dmc.

Slaton and Devine would split enough carries that the WVU would be UNSTOPPABLE. I agree that Slaton isn't a feature back, if that's what you're saying.

Devine wont win the Heisman, as good as he's looked in the limited time he's seen, i dont think we should be quick to crown him just yet. Dont forget before Tim Tebow a Sophomore never won the Heisman, i fail to see Sophmores winning it back to back.

Good Lord, Dick Rod.

Report: WVU player files went missing after Rodriguez took U-M job (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3197764)

West Virginia University said Tuesday it will investigate the disappearance of player and football program files found to be missing from the former office of ex-Mountaineers coach Rich Rodriguez.

Paperwork detailing every player on West Virginia's roster, as well as the program's activities over the past seven years, went missing between Rodriguez's resignation as coach to take over at Michigan and the team's return from the Fiesta Bowl, the Charleston (W.Va.) Gazette reported.

Mike Brown, agent for Rich Rodriguez, said Tuesday night that many of the claims made by a West Virginia athletic department source in the article are false.

After returning to work about a week ago, the staff at WVU's Puskar Center found that most of the files that had been stored in Rodriguez's office, as well as the players' strength and conditioning files in the weight room, were gone, the Gazette reported.

"It's unbelievable. Everything is gone, like it never existed,'' a source within the athletic department, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the Gazette. "Good, bad or indifferent, we don't have a record of anything that has happened.''

Brown said that the school wouldn't need Rodriguez's copies of strength and conditioning files.

"The head coach and each assistant coach received hard copies of the strength progress," he said. "So I would think coach [Bill] Stewart and others would have those, too."

According to the source, the missing files include all of the players' personal files, which encompass contact information, scholarship money awarded, class attendance records and personal conduct records, the Gazette reported.

"If a player spoke to a school or did public service, we don't have a record of it,'' the source said, according to the newspaper. "If he broke a rule or missed class, we don't have a record of that, either. We don't have anything. All the good things these kids have done over the years, there's nothing -- not a picture of somebody speaking to a class, nothing. Why would somebody do that?''

Brown refuted that account.

"[Rodriguez] did not keep records for every player and academic records for the players are certainly on file at the school," he said

According to the report, multiple sources said several people in the Puskar Center reported seeing Rodriguez and at least one of his assistants, video coordinator Dusty Rutledge, in Rodriguez's private office shredding paperwork on Dec. 18 -- the day he returned from Ann Arbor after being named Michigan's new head coach. Those who say they witnessed the action said they either paid it no mind or did not know what was being destroyed, according to the report.

Brown said any files that are missing would be personal to Rodriguez.

"It is common knowledge that when a coach leaves a program certain items of a personal nature would always be discarded," he said.

WVU assistant athletic director Mike Fragale, reached by The Associated Press on Tuesday, declined to say what's in the files. He said the athletic department won't have any further comment until its investigation is finished.

West Virginia and Rodriguez are in the midst of a messy legal battle over his departure from Morgantown. The university is trying to recover $4 million from Rodriguez for leaving with six years remaining on his contract. Rodriguez, in turn, said West Virginia breached the contract by not fulfilling all of its terms of the deal.

The 'Canes have done extremely well so far. They just added LaRon Byrd was a surprise catch, but I'm more excited about Tommy Streeter and Benjamin Jones, of the National Champion Miami Northwestern squad, joining several of their teammates and bringing it to The U.

I need Brandon Harris to stay home too and snagging T.J. Bryant wouldn't hurt my feelings either. Jamie Harper needs to get in on the action too. I'm still trying to get the latest on Ramon Buchanan and whether he's headed for Coral Gables or Gainesville.

--------------------------------
Well, Terrelle Pryor is announcing today, but says it's down to Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State. I don't think I need to detail the amount of cursing and violence I'm likely to engage in if he ends up in Columbus.

Michigan has done OK with holding on to recruits, even gaining some, after the Coach Rod hiring.

Clemson is putting together a pretty stud class as of late. Jamie Harper, DeQuan Bowers, and Antwoine McClain were big.

Brandon Harris and Ramon Buchanan wound up signing with Miami too. The defensive signings were incredible, especially at LB. Offense did well at WR and a couple of good QB commits. Perrilloux (http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;_ylt=AlTMqB6STu.DX7xWmAcbJcAcvrYF?slug=ap-lsu-perrilloux&prov=ap&type=lgns)

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules, coach Les Miles said Monday in a news release.

Miles said Perrilloux's status for spring practice, which starts Feb. 29, is uncertain.

The release did not detail the rule or rules broken and it was unclear how the suspension would affect Perrilloux's future with the team. He has been widely considered the favorite to succeed Matt Flynn as first-string quarterback after leading LSU to two victories as a starter -- including the Southeastern Conference championship game -- when Flynn was injured in the 2007 season.

Perrilloux was considered the top high school quarterback prospect in the country when Miles persuaded him to join the Tigers. And he appeared to be fulfilling his promise in 2007, after redshirting in 2005 and playing sparingly as a third-stringer in 2006.

But this is not the first time he has faced discipline.

In May of 2007 he was suspended from the team indefinitely after he was cited for trying to illegally get on a riverboat casino in Baton Rouge by using his older brother's driver's license. He was reinstated in August.

In October, the week before the Alabama game, he was barred from practice for his role in a nightclub brawl.

Earlier in 2007, Perrilloux was named as a "person of interest" in a federal counterfeiting investigation, but that probe never led to charges.

Georgia focusing on the moment
Football notebook
Georgia coach Mark Richt had to field several questions about his team's possible No. 1 preseason ranking.
David Manning / Staff
By Marc Weiszer | marc.weiszer@onlineathens.com | Story updated at 11:38 PM on Monday, March 3, 2008

Georgia coach Mark Richt couldn't make it through the first day of spring practices without fielding questions about his team and the national championship picture for the upcoming season.

Again.

Richt addressed the issue five days earlier at a pre-spring news conference and he again talked about how Georgia is focusing "on the moment" from its stretching to its kicking and beyond.

That naturally prompted the question if this team's stretching compares favorably with the two national championship Florida State teams he coached as an assistant.

Richt bit.

"You know, the stretching was good," Richt said. "We get the blood flowing and then we stretch. It's pretty spectacular to watch."

Georgia, which returns 17 starters from a team that finished ranked No. 2 in the nation, is widely being touted as a preseason No. 1 team, but sophomore center Chris Davis said players aren't letting it get to their head.

"That's the key word this year is not getting complacent," Davis said. "Everybody's going to be talking about how good we are, but we've just got to come out and work. If we don't work, all that talk, nothing will come of it anyway."

Richt said the national championship talk isn't what's getting players excited.

"They look around and see we've got a chance to be pretty good if everybody does what they're supposed to do," Richt said. "I'm excited about that. You really have to earn the right just to be good. We've got a lot of work to do just to be a good team."

Davis tries not to spill the beans
MULTIMEDIA
VIDEO: The Georgia Bulldogs have their first spring practice of 2008:

Davis mentioned in December that Georgia coaches would like freshman Ben Jones to be able to start at center, which would allow Davis to play guard.

That comment put him off limits for interviews until he emerged Monday as the only offensive linemen that coach Stacy Searels allowed to speak to the media.

"I slipped up last year," Davis said. "I got banned last year."

Jones actually lined up as Davis' backup on the first day of spring practices. Sophomore Ben Harden, who was listed as the second-string, lined up No. 3 during the portion of practice in which the media was allowed to watch.

The only other apparent change from the depth chart was redshirt freshman Chris Little behind Vince Vance at left guard. Tanner Strickland, listed No. 2, worked on the side on a stationary bike.

Walk-on John Potts was the No. 2 right tackle behind Kiante Tripp.

Not that Davis would admit as much.

Davis left the team meeting room after speaking to reporters with these words: "I'm probably restricted."

This and that

Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson Sr. and safeties coach Kermit Buggs were in town to exchange ideas with Georgia coaches. They attended practice on Monday. ...Former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr is the featured speaker at Georgia's Spring Coaches Clinic that starts Thursday at the Classic Center. Registration is from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Breakout sessions start at 3:30 p.m. Carr will speak Friday at 10:50 a.m. ...New tight ends coach John Lilly will oversee the punt team. Jon Fabris remains in charge of punt returns. ...Linebacker Darius Dewberry (groin), receiver Demiko Goodman, snapper Jeff Henson and defensive end Justin Houston were in non-contact green jerseys. ...Tight end Aron White changed his number to 81, worn by NaDerris Ward before he decided to transfer.

His first stop was at Michigan. When he got there, coach Rich Rodriquez
immediately picked up a golden telephone. After talking several
minutes, the coach said, "Thank you God and hung up".

This shocked the young man He asked the coach what was so special
about the golden phone. "Well, this phone is a direct line to God.
And God tells whether or not new recruits would be a Star at our
university."

The Athlete asked if he could use the phone to ask God what college
he should pick. "Sure you can, but it going to cost you $1,000.
Calling Heaven isn't cheap." The fellow didn't have that kind of money,
so he moved along .

His next stop was Columbus Ohio. Upon entering Coach Tressel's
office, Coach Tressel immediately picked up a golden phone. After
talking several minutes, he said, "Thank you, God" and hung up."

The boy said, "Hey I've seen those phones before. Can I use yours
to call God and ask what college I should pick?" Tressel said, "Sure,
but it's going to cost you $750." Calling Heaven isn't cheap.

Again, not having that kind of money, the lad left.

His last stop was in Athens, Georgia. Upon arrival at the coach's
office, Coach Mark Richt picked up a golden telephone, talked to
God, and said, "Thanks," and hung up

The boy just had to use that phone, so he said, "Coach, I really
need to use that golden telephone so I can call God and ask him which
college I should choose.

"From Michigan it was going to cost me $1,000, from Ohio they
wanted $750. How much will it cost me to call Heaven from here in Athens?"

Richt smiled and said, "Nothing son, it's a local call."

From EDSBS blog:

The 2008 Coaching Hires: Handicapping Who Will Be Fired First

Get out your actuarial tables, scandal sensors, and unacceptable loss forecasters, ’cause it’s time to figure out which of our newly-hired coaches is most likely to get ****canned first.

Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech - 50:1 You know the only thing hard about Paul Johnson’s new job? Christmas, and the agonizing decision of to whom he owes a bigger fruit basket: Chan Gailey or the rest of the ACC. Can one objectively say who set the bar lowest?

Bo Pelini, Nebraska - 30:1 A favorite in the field to have a nice, long stay at his new home. The man is following Bill Callahan, for Christ’s sake - a coach who was so inept at so traditionally strong a program that Mark Mangino and Gary Pinkel stopped, stared, and thought to themselves, “Holy ****. We can do this.”

Bobby Petrino, Arkansas - 20:1 Following the Nutt Job, he should be more secure than Fort Knox, but let’s not forget this is a man who’s kicked two teams in the balls on his way out the door. He’s slick like Mitt Romney, which means we really can’t rule out anything. Especially because he’s headed to Arkansas, where scandals breed like bunnies. Great value bet here.

Rich Rodriguez, Michigan - 10:1 On the one hand, he’s the coach at Michigan. It’s a pinnacle job and they’ll keep him as long as he’s doing well, which he should. On the other hand, he’s the coach at Michigan, which means the intolerance for sleaziness is fiftyfold what it would be at a school like, say, West Virginia. Or Ohio State. So we’ve gotta hedge here: if he’s a man of good character, he’ll be there forever and win many many many games. If there are skeletons in his closet, he’ll be cut at the knees faster than you can say Sweatervest.

Regrets skimming the fine print…

Mike Sherman, Texas A&M - 6:1 We’re talking Aggies, so we’ve got a special set of questions that need answers: Is he fascist? Would he sacrifice his daughter’s life for a collie? How adept is he at fending off pirate attacks? To what extent would he prefer the world be more like it was in the 1880s than it is today? Would he buy a nice bottle of Boone’s to get a farm animal into bed? And would he know that Orange Hurricane would be the flavor to do it?

Houston Nutt, Ole Miss - 3:1 Buyer’s remorse? We’ll see. We do know the good people of Oxford are dropping by Nutt Job’s new home three times a week to help try to mold him into an acceptable member of society a la Michael Oher, but can you really teach an old dog new tricks? Hillary Clinton advises, “Not old dogs from Arkansas.”

Bill Stewart, West Virginia - 2:1 West Virginia was practically forced to make the classic “We’ll Prove How Much We Won’t Miss You By Hiring Your Old Assistant And Also We’re Suing You” move. Though the sentiment is understandable, the WPHMWWMYBHYOAAAWSY move rarely leads to a lasting relationship. Let’s face it: we’ve all been there. The girlfriend dumps us for a hotter, richer guy so we thump our chest, down that liter of moonshine, file a lawsuit, and then immediately go to bed with the ex-girlfriend’s sluttiest friend. Before long, though, we get over it, slink away to our physician, and triple check for STDs. (You best win and win big soon, Mr. Stewart.)

Rick Neuheisel, UCLA - 1:25 In real life, Vegas would never allow this man’s name to even be on the books, so sure is his impending combustion. After all, if this were a movie, the pitch would go something like this:

Plot outline: Born again coach Supremely sketchy egomaniac with hubris that would shame Bill Bennett is hired to try to outshine and outglitz the indomitable crosstown rival coach.

Setting: Hollywood.

Dramatic Build: After federal agents use a Ryan Seacrest team gang bang videotape to coerce cooperation from the team’s quarterback, authorities are able to undercover an interstate heroin trafficking ring involving the team’s coach and eager recruits who want to earn a spot on the squad.

Climactic Final Scene: Troubled coach flees campus in explosive-packed Lotus with authorities hot in high speed pursuit. Unable to evacuate the targeted rival campus, Special Deputy Agent Peter Carroll is forced to make a daring move to stop the reckless coach from carbombing the rival university into oblivion.

Sequel: An imprisoned coach bribes wardens into transferring top inmate athletes to his prison so he can win the Penitentiary Cup.

HAHAHAHA!!!

Noel Devine and others arrested.. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3292510

West Virginia running back Noel Devine was among four Mountaineers' football players to plead no contest to misdemeanor battery charges after being arrested Thursday.

Also arrested were defensive back Eain Smith, 19; cornerback Brantwon Bowser, 20; and running back/receiver Jockee Sanders, 19, the Morgantown Police Department said in a news release.

Each player pleaded no contest in Morgantown Municipal Court, the police department said.

It was not immediately known whether the municipal court assessed any penalties against the players. A telephone message left Thursday night with the municipal court was not immediately returned.

Police said the charges stemmed from an altercation outside Club Z in Morgantown on Feb. 16 but did not provide details.

"Discipline with the situation has already been handled within the program," WVU football coach Bill Stewart said through a spokesman. He said he would have no further comment.

Some people are of the mind that it's wrong to harbor resentment or ill will toward a teenager for making, what he feels, is the best decision for himself. Some go as far as to say that it's, in fact, ridiculous to do so over something as trivial as a sporting event. Those same people would likely cite such behavior as hypocritical, if you were indeed in favor of the athlete in question attending an institution that you root for.

Fortunately, I'm not one of those people. Go to hell, Pryor.

Today was the G-Day spring game in Athens. Stafford looked real smooth, passing for 2 touchdowns. Both Moreno and King had some great runs, and slick moves to get out of a jam
Red team wins 17-3 over the Black.

Did you hear about the girl that married a former South Carolina quarterback? She was still a virgin after near four years of marriage, as the husband kept saying "Wait til next year!"

We don't say "Wait til next year." We say "Let's see how bad we can **** this year up."

Bo Pelini is going to extremes to have the Nebraska Cornhuskers prepared for the 2008 football season, even if it gets someone killed. Last year’s Bill Callahan team was accused of being too soft (pun intended), and Pelini is determined that this year’s team will be more physical. To do so, he’s begun playing soft rock hits from the 70s, before, during, and after practice, in the weight rooms, on the practice field, in the showers. Everywhere the Huskers go, they’ll be treated to ‘Love Will Keep Us Together’ by Captain and Tennille.

“Listen, you only have to hear ‘All Out of Love’ by Air Supply so many times before you’re filed with homicidal rage.”, said new head coach Bo Pelini. “It’s our version of hell in a box. They just need to learn to control it.”

When asked if he may be crossing the line between coaching and sadism, Pelini replied, “We’re going to do what it takes to win”, then paused and added “We removed ‘Undercover Angel’ from the playlist. We do have limits.”

Nebraska players are said to be prepared to burn an effigy of Leo Sayer towards the end of spring practice. Access to the football team has been limited to the general public so as to not affect anyone besides the football team. Media has not been limited the reason being given by offensive line coach Barney Cotton, “They don’t seem to have any taste and therefore we’ve determined it won’t affect them.”

An athletic department source expressed concern that this could get out of hand. “Someone said he might play 'Afternoon Delight', for God’s sake. I’m not going near work this week. I might stab someone."

A completely different anonymous source stated that Pelini has an antidote should anyone lose control, but didn’t mention exactly what the antidote is.

HAHAHA!!!

I tell ya, the more I see of Beannie Wells, the more I believe HE is the next Adrian Peterson. That kid is a monster. Draft scout has his last reported 40 at 4.47, if he can find a way to get that under 4.4 he will go top 10 easy in the 2009 draft. He's one to watch, though I still think Noel Devines winning Heisman

Look at R-Rod's record, I can't see anything but success in Michigan. Anyone that can turn around UWV like he did has incredible talent. Combine that with the resources of Michigan - and you have a potential beast. I think R-Rod and Zook will also help force toe Big 10 to reshape its style.
